Agnes D. Weber

Age 61, died on Friday, May 21, 2010.

Born in Wilmington, Agnes was the daughter of the late Dr. Peter and Emily Weber. She was predeceased by her brother, Peter Weber, Jr. She is survived by her sister, Dr. Emily Weber Nicoll, and nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 29th at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington at 9:30 AM, friends may visit at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow at Old Bohemia Cemetery in Galena, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Easter Seals, 61 Corporate Circle, New Castle, DE 19720.

Jack L. Bowdle

Age 61, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 22, 2010.

Jack was born in Elsmere, DE on March 23, 1949. He worked as a laboratory technician for the DuPont Company

Jack enjoyed cooking for all those around him and trips to the Jersey shore. He was deeply devoted to his family and Kathy beyond words. His sense of humor was always with him

He is survived by his fiancée, Kathleen A. Rathgeb; his daughter and son-in-law, Amy and John Wilkinson of Newark, DE; his son and daughter-in-law, John Paul and Candi Bowdle of Oxford, PA; and three granddaughters, Adrianna, Ashley and Lauren.

Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donation in his name may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 702B Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19805.

Merritt, Catherine Stevens

Catherine Stevens Merritt of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday June16, 2010 at Hillside Center. Catherine was born on June 6, 1928 in Wilmington to the late John Stevens and Helen Glick. She was married for 50 years to James S. Merritt Sr. until his death in 2002. Catherine graduated from Conrad High School where she studied to be a secretary and later was employed by Delmarva Power. She enjoyed gardening and listening to bands while celebrating with family and friends. Her true love was her time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always had time to listen and offer her special words of wisdom.

In addition to her parents and husband, her brothers John Stevens and Joseph Stevens predeceased Catherine in death. She is survived by her 4 sons: James S. and his wife Carol, John S. and his wife Debra, Gregory D. and his wife Roberta, Ken and his wife Karen. 7 grandchildren; Michelle, Jennifer, Nicholas, David, Joshua, Victoria, Aaron, 2 great grandchildren Joseph and Aurora.

The family would like to express our gratitude to the staff at Hillside Center and Compassionate Care hospice for their endless loving care of our mom over the last two years. Your dedication to her made each day special.

Family and friends may visit at Mealey Funeral Home Limestone and Milltown Roads on Monday June 21, 2010. Visitation will be from 9am-10:30am, Services to begin at 10:30am. Interment will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park Cemetery at 2220 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Catherine's name to either Compassionate Care Hospice at 702B Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805 or Hillside Center Patient Fund at 810 S. Broom St. Wilmington, DE 19805.

Davis, Jr., John W.

John W. Davis, Jr. 82, of Wilmington, passed away surrounded by loving family on Friday, May 21, 2010 at Christiana Hospital.

Mr. Davis was a U.S. Navy veteran and a Systems Analyst with DuPont for over 38 years before his retirement in 1989. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed sailing, fishing and all outdoor activities.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 62 years, Delores (Dickenson) Davis, his sons and their wives; John W., III and Nancy of Chicago, James S. and Ruth Ann of Chestertown, MD, Michael N. of New York City and Mark C. and Susan of Chester, VA. He is also survived by grandchildren; Rachel, Scott, Amy, Katie, Erika, and Jenna, a great granddaughter, Adrianna, a brother Robert Davis of Canada, and a sister, Anne Marie Wilcox of Michigan.

The family will hold a memorial service at a later date in Michigan.

White, Jeannine Crosby

Jeannine Crosby White, 81, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2010 in the Millcroft Nursing Home where she had been a resident since December.

Jeannine was born in Wilmington in 1929, the oldest child of the late Agnes (Chadick) and Roland Crosby. She graduated from Conrad High School and became a registered nurse after attending the Delaware Hospital School of Nursing. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Robert, Thomas and Roland Crosby.

Jeannine spent the rest of her life as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed by her husband of 59 years, James C. White; her children and their spouses, Elizabeth Ryan and Judd, Christopher and Karen and Carolyn White-Bartoo and David; her six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Jeannine suffered from many medical problems, but bore them with much patience, kindness and good humor. She will always be respected and loved by all of her family and numerous friends. The family would like to thank the many caring staff at Millcroft and the Hospice folks that were so supportive during this difficult time.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday morning at 10:30 AM at the St. Thomas More Oratory, 45 Lovett Avenue, Newark, DE 19711, where friends may call after 10 AM. Inurnment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

Raymond Wyatt, Sr.

Age 72, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 surrounded by his family.

Raymond was the son of the late Wilson and Alice (Farren) Wyatt. He served his country proudly in the US Navy. He retired from Wonder Bread in 1998 after 20 years of service as a warehouse manager. He was predeceased by his wife, Nancy (Sexton) Wyatt in 1995 and by his sister, Norma Pragg

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Cindy Wyatt of New Jersey; his daughter and son-in-law, Kelli and Steve Colella of Newark; his sister, Barbara Williams of Newark; his brothers, William Wyatt of California and Gary Wyatt of Texas; three grandchildren, Alexandra, Cody and Tyler; and a nephew Larry Piazza.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to everyone at Odyssey Hospice, especially Denise Webber, for their professional and compassionate care.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 1st at 12 noon at Mealey Funeral Home, 703 N. Broom Street, Wilmington, where friends are invited to visitation after 11 AM. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Odyssey Hospice, 1407 Foulk Road #200, Wilmington, DE 19803.

Shirley A. Grant

Age 76, of Newark, formerly of New Castle, DE passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at Christiana Hospital.

Born in Salem, NJ, Shirley was the daughter of the late Everett C. and Sarah (Godown) Sparks. She worked as an aid on the school buses for Christiana School District for six years. Previously, she worked for Spence Security Guard for 15 years.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her husband, William Grant in 1994, her brothers, William M. and Charles D. Sparks, and her sister-in-law Irene Sparks. She is survived by her sons, David and Glenn Hartman; her granddaughter, Stephanie DeRocili; her great grandchildren, Leah and Sequoia; her sister-in-law, Ruth B. Sparks; her good friend, Cabrini Jones; three nieces and two nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 3rd at 11 AM at Jeanne Jugan Residence, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713 where friends and family are invited to visitation after 10 AM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Little Sisters of the Poor, c/o Jeanne Jugan Residence at the address above.

Elaine F. Pass Mitchell

Age 74, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Sunday, April 25, 2010.

She was the daughter of the late William H. and Kathyrn McElwee. She was predeceased by her husbands, Norman J. Pass and William J. Mitchell; her granddaughter, Alanna Herfindahl Riess; her sister, Kathleen Dodson and her niece, Maureen Mahon.

She will be deeply missed by her children, Karen Kolmonen of Fort Myers, Florida, Jimmy Pass of Atlanta, GA, Terry Herfindahl of Newark, Chris Pass of Brookhaven, PA, Donna Haddaway of Newark, Chris Mitchell of Stanton, and Elaine Bradley of Wilmington; her step- children Cindy and Jack Mitchell. She also is survived by 15 grandchildren, 6 great- grandchildren, and nephews, Bill Mahon and Mike Mahon.

Elaine was a graduate of A.I. DuPont High School and St. Francis School of Nursing. She was very proud of her life long career at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington, where she retired in 1996. She was an avid bowler and loved her time spent in Lewes, DE.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Millcroft Health Care Center for the care and compassion shown during their mother's stay.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 from 6 to 8 pm, at MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, Limestone and Milltown Roads. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Wednesday at the Parish of the Resurrection Church, 3000 Videre Drive, Skyline Ridge. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association, 1501 Casho Mill Road, Ste. 1, Newark, DE 19711 or a charity of your choice.

James A. Hagerty, Jr.

Age 68, of Wilmington, DE, passed away tragically on Monday, August 30, 2010 at Carousel Park.

Born in Wilmington, Jim was the son of the late Josephine C. (Black) and James A. Hagerty, Sr. He was a 1960 graduate of Salesianum School and attended Goldey Beacom College. A member of the Teamsters Union, he retired after 24 years of service. He then worked for New Castle County for five years. He was a member of the Marine Corp Reserve and the Corvette Club of Delaware. An avid Notre Dame Football fan, he loved the beach, pool and a cold beer and enjoyed bowling. He was a member of St. John the Beloved Church.

In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his son, James A. Hagerty, III in 2008, his daughter Wendy J Hagerty in 1971 and his brother Francis Hagerty. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Anna (Havill) Hagerty; his daughters, Megan Manuel and her husband, Jeff of Wilmington, Tina Reynolds of Elsmere, and Mary Alice Richey and her husband, Todd of Aurora, CO; his daughter-in-law, Michelle Hagerty, of Wilmington; and his brother, Joseph and his wife, Lorraine of Wilmington. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Kyley Manuel, Ryan Reynolds, Jordyn and Colin Richey and Elisabeth and Ian Hagerty; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Friday, September 3rd between 5 and 8 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 10 AM at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington. Interment will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle.
