Charles J Wagner

"Charlie"

Age 96 of Wilmington, De passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at Christiana Hospital surrounded by his family.

Born in Delaware, Mr. Wagner was the son of the late John H. and Elizabeth (Smerbeck) Wagner. He graduated from Newark High School in 1933. He also was a graduate of Goldey Beacom College and George Washington University. He retired from the State of Delaware, Department of Labor in 1979. He was formerly president of Local 1212 Chrysler Tank Plant office employees and also president of Local 2038 Department of Labor Employees Union. He was a member of St. John the Beloved Knights of Columbus. He was predeceased by his first wife, Harriet and by a son, Richard M. Johnson.

Through Mr. Wagner's efforts, St. John the Beloved Catholic Church was built on his property on Milltown Road. Mr. Wagner was an avid gardener and loved sports especially Notre Dame Football and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He loved playing cards and traveling.

He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Marie (Johnson) Wagner; his son, Mark D. Johnson and wife Donna of West Dundee, IL; a daughter, Jeanne Tunell and her husband Michael of Newark; and six grandchildren: Kristin Chuman and her husband Paolo; Kathryn Tunell; Michael Tunell, Jr.; Matthew Johnson; and Ryan Johnson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 2nd at 11 AM at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, where visitation will take place between 10 and 11 AM. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

MaryEllen Morrow

Age 78, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at Christiana Hospital on Tuesday, October 26, 2010.

Born in Wilmington, Mrs. Morrow was the daughter of the late William and Minerva (Schieffer) Joyce. She worked at the Acme as a cashier for 20 years before her retirement. She was a devoted grandmother and a member of St. Elizabeth Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony A. Morrow, Sr.

She will be dearly missed by her son, Anthony A. "Buzz" Jr. and his wife, Cynthia of Bear; two grandchildren Bryan and Morgan; two sisters, Theresa Riley of Millsboro, DE and Joanne Knowles of New Castle.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Tuesday, November 2nd between 6 and 8 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday morning at 11 AM at St. Elizabeth Church, Cedar and Clayton Streets, Wilmington. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Pasquale, John N.

John N. Pasquale "Bubbles", 78, of Wilmington died on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Brandywine Nursing Home.

John was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Frances (Tamone) and Alfred Pasquale. He was a bricklayer and a member of Bricklayer's Local #1. He also installed insulation for over 13 years, retiring in 1993. Bubbles was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, the Holy Name Society and the Sons of Italy, Prince of Piedmont Lodge. He was predeceased by his wife, Joan (Edge) Pasquale in 2000.

He will be missed by his sons, John N., Jr., Michael and Anthony; his brothers, Alfred, Joseph, who lovingly cared for him everyday; and his sister, Joan DiGirolamo. Bubbles also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday June 11, 2010 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Ninth and DuPont Streets, Wilmington at 10:30 AM. Friends may call at the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, Limestone and Milltown Roads on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 PM. Entombment will be in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Delaware Humane Association and Faithful Friends Inc.

Edward F. Dugan, Jr.

Age 82, of Wilmington, DE, and Bethany Beach, DE passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 4, 2010 surrounded by his family.

Born in Wilmington, Edward was the son of the late Julia (Horgan) and Edward F. Dugan, Sr. He attended Christ Our King School, and graduated from P.S. DuPont High School. He earned his business degree from the Wharton School of Business. He worked for the DuPont Company for 41 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church and St. Ann's Church in Bethany Beach.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 41 years, Eileen (Kelley) Dugan; his daughters, Mary F. Dugan of Wilmington and Julia Dugan Butz and her husband, David of Havre de Grace, MD; four grandchildren, Paul, Catherine, Daniel and Margaret; a brother, Neal Dugan and his wife, Mildred, of Sevierville, TN; and numerous loving cousins, nieces, nephews and neighbors.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 8th at 11 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin where friends and family are invited to visitation after 10 AM. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Ashland, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, 100 S. Main Street #211, Smyrna, DE 19977.

Minta Norton Holmes

Age 74, of Woodland Heights, Wilmington, DE, died on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at home after a short battle with ovarian cancer.

She was born in the Catskill Mountains, Margaretville, NY. Her father, Vail Norton, an attorney, and her mother, Marie Meincke Norton, an administrative assistant, had died previously. She attended Schools in northern New Jersey and graduated as a registered nurse from Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing in Montclair, NJ in 1956. She then attended Millersville State College in Pennsylvania to work on her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Minta worked as a registered nurse in numerous fields, specialty cardio care, her most recent being Emily P. Bissell Hospital. Prior to that, she worked at DuPont Merck Pharmaceuticals as a clinical research associate on Phase 3 drugs with cardiovascular being her specialty. In her earlier years, she was a homemaker for her three sons and former husband. She was a den mother of Cub Scouts, president of the PTA, a Sunday school teacher and choir member. She loved nature and all animals and would foster needy critters.

She will be sorely missed by her three sons, Robert David Holmes and his wife Deborah; James Norton Holmes and his wife Patricia; and William Steven Holmes. Also surviving is her aunt, Margaret Allen (84 years), her former husband, Robert W. Holmes and many dear friends. Close to her heart also were five grandchildren of her son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Deb and her three grandchildren of son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Patti. She will be very much be missed by her beloved Doberman, Katie, and her four kitties, Smokie, Maggie-Bear, Bootsie-Dan and Callie Marie. She is survived by 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 7th at 5 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington where friends are invited to visitation between 3 and 5 PM. She will be buried next to her parents in Stehman's Methodist Cemetery, Manor Twp., Lancaster County, PA privately.

Howard G. Thorn

Age 81, of Newark, DE, formerly of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at Regal Heights.

Born in Camden, NJ, Howard was the son of the late Edward M. and Mary C. (McGrath) Thorn. He served his country proudly in the US Navy during the Korean War. He retired from DuPont in 1986 after 33 years. He was a volunteer for several community organizations.

He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Bernadette (McEntee) Thorn. He will be dearly missed by his son, James E. and Carol; his daughters, Joanne Matarese and her husband, Edward and Karen Oberly and her husband, John A.; 7 grandchildren, Michael, Paul, Christina, Megan, Ryan, John and Lauren; and a great granddaughter, Kaitlyn.

The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Evergreen Center, Regal Heights and Delaware Hospice for their loving care.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 2nd at 11 AM at St. John the Beloved, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington where friends are invited to visitation after 10 AM. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contribution to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 100 W. 10th St., Wilmington, DE 19801, the Association of Frontotemporal Dementia, 100 N. 17th St. #600, Philadelphia, PA 19103 or to Camilla Hall, PO Box 100, Immaculata, PA 19345-0100.

Jeanne M. Cherico

Jeanne (Kowalewski) Cherico of Wilmington passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2010, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her beloved husband and caregiver, James R. Cherico ("Jimmy") with whom she shared 31 years of marriage.

Jeanne was born in Wilmington, Delaware to Edward Kowalewski and Gerry (McDermott) Kowalewski. She was a graduate of St. Elizabeth High School (Class of '70) and started her career at the Public Defenders Office as a secretary. Jeanne then worked at Green & Green and Heckler & Cattie. For the last 15 years, she was a paralegal with the Public Defenders Office. Jeanne thoroughly enjoyed working in the legal field.

In addition to her husband, Jeanne is survived by two daughters whom she adored: Amy Cherico Brainard (Matt) and Melissa Cherico; three sisters, Anne Radcliff (David), Donna DiSalvo (Butch) and Barbara Vent (David); and one brother, John Kowalewski (Carol). Jeanne was predeceased by her father-in-law, Joseph A. Cherico, and his survived by her mother-in-law, Marie McKinsey Cherico; brothers-in-law, Joe (Kathy), Jerry (Margie), Michael (Nina); and sister-in-law, Lynne. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Church, Cedar and Clayton Streets, Wilmington, DE 19805. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jeanne's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.

Kathleen P. Choma

Age 69, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at Compassionate Care Hospice on Saturday, January 8, 2011.

Born in Wilmington, Kathleen was the daughter of the late Clete and Margaret (Tully) Snavely. She was a graduate of Ursuline Academy and worked for Wiltex as a textile worker. She was a member of Christ Our King Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Maria Pierce of Elsmere and Kathleen Bryan of Lower Delaware; her sister, Margaret A. Stayton of Wilmington; her brother, Chick Snavely of Newark; and seven grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 12th at 10:30 AM at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, where friends are invited to visitation after 9:30 AM. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Compassionate Care Hospice, 702B Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19805.

Virginia M. Lacey

Age 90, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 8, 2010. She was the daughter of the late Howard Hazel Anderson and Sarah Ward Anderson.

During WWII Virginia worked for J.A. Montgomery and also rolled bandages for the Red Cross. She retired from W.T. Grant Co. in 1995. She was a member of Richardson Park United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son, Bruce C. Lacey; her daughter, Gail L. Toppin, with whom she lived and her daughter-in-law, Becky C. Lacey. She is also survived by grandchildren, Gigi (Ray), Jim (Kira), Will (Kim) and Jackie (Mark), and great-grandchildren, Rachael, Rebecca, Akaya, and Cole.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold B. Lacey, son, Mark S. Lacey, son-in-law, William H. Toppin, daughter-in-law, Phyllis A. Lacey, and siblings, Dorothy, Milford, Wes, Alcinda and Dick.

Funeral services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
