Catherine Rose Dolan

Age 91, of Wilmington, died Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Churchman Village surrounded by her family.

Born October 7, 1919 in Conshohocken, PA, Catherine was the daughter of the late James and Emma Dugan. In her early years, she worked for the Federal Bake Shop and Kennard's. She was a homemaker for many years then returned to work for Pathmark, retiring in 1981 after 20 years of service.

Catherine loved her family, taking particular joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid bingo player and loved animals - enjoying pets throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband George E. "Porky" Dolan, her sisters Mary Pietsch, Veronica Hushebeck, Gertrude Williams and Anna Burris; and brothers James, Francis and Joseph Dugan.

She is survived by her children, Kathleen Brown Raptakes and husband Al of MD, George E. Dolan, Jr. and wife Karen of IN, Diane M. Lucey and husband Paul of Wilmington and Edward M. Dolan and wife Joan of Newark; 7 grandchildren, John Brown and wife Diane, Jennifer McCartin and husband Doug of MD; Michael Dolan and wife Irina, Christopher Dolan of CA; Shannon O'Neill and husband Greg, Kelly Catts and husband Donnie and Shawn Lucey of Wilmington; 10 great-grandchildren and her sister Jeanette Huber and husband Vernon of Kinsale, Ireland.

The family would like to thank the staff at Churchman Village for their kindness and compassion, especially during the last few weeks.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at Noon at St. Mary's Church, 6th & Pine Sts, Wilm. Calling hours Friday 11-Noon at the church. Entombment at Cathedral Cemetery will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in memory of Catherine to Faithful Friends No Kill Animal Shelter, 12 Germay Drive, Wilm., DE 19804.

John B. Overbay

Age 73, of Airville, PA, formerly of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Monday, July 5, 2010 at Memorial Hospital in York, PA.

Born in Beckley, WV, John was the son of the late John and Lola Overbay. He was a graduate of Trappe Hill High School. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army. He retired from General Motors in 1987 as a supervisor of the paint department. His memberships included the Masons and the U.A.W. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary C. (Bringer) Overbay in 2005, his son, John F. Overbay in 1998, and his sister, Linda Nail.

John will be dearly missed by his daughters, Bernadette Overbay of Newark, DE, Anne M. Reynolds and her husband, Dave, of Elkton, MD, Rose Kauffman and her husband, Tad, of Shrewsbury, PA and Pamela Ellison of Wilmington, DE. He was a grandfather to 13 grandchildren, Rachel, Jennifer, James, Christopher, Mary, Jason, Catherine, Christina, Zachary, Ryan, Quinlan, Alexis and Cheyenne; and 8 great grandchildren, Jaden, Mateo, Skylor, Charisma, Madison, Sophia, Elizabeth and Savannah. Also surviving are three sisters, Yvonne Davis, Sharon Guyer, and Carolyn Pierce.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 13th at 12:30 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington, where friends and family are invited to visitation after 11:30 AM. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association, 1501 Casho Mill Road #1, Newark, DE 19711 or to the American Diabetes Association, 100 W. 10th Street #1002, Wilmington, DE 19801.

Jeanette Asief

Age 72, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at Christiana Hospital on Thursday, January 6, 2011.

Born in Pottsville, PA, Jeanette was the daughter of the late Namer and Jenny (Spleen) Asief. She retired from the Hercules Company after 29 years. After working at Three Little Bakers and Delaware Park she went on to spend the last 20 years working in the jewelry department at Macy's where she loved her work and co-workers.

She is predeceased by her sister Mary Jane Knarr and a niece, Marie Wegner. She is survived by her sister, Anna May Wegner of Pennsylvania; and six nephews.

The family would like to thank the Macy's family, associates and customers for their outpouring of support.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 15th at 12 noon at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, where friends and family are invited to visitation after 11 AM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to PAWS for People, PO Box 9955, Newark, DE 19714.

Ann Marie Standarowski

Age 67, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 16, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Wilmington, Ann Marie was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Mazlewski) Standarowski. She retired as a secretary in the legal department for the DuPont Company. She was a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews and her great nieces and nephews. She was a devoted Catholic and a life-long member of St. Elizabeth Church.

In addition to her parents, Ann was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy Martell. She is survived by her brother, Richard, of Wilmington.

Ann's family would like to thank everyone at Brandywine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for all their love and care of Ann over the past few years.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 19th at 10:30 AM at St. Elizabeth Church, Cedar and Clayton Streets, Wilmington where friends are invited to visitation after 10 AM. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to St. Elizabeth Church, 809 S. Broom Street, Wilmington, DE 19805.

Jones, Ellen Marie A.

Ellen Marie Jones, 82 of Newark, formerly of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital.

She was born in Wilkes Barre to the late John and Eleanor (McCarthy) Herron. She was an optician and retired from University Opticians in 1990 after 20 years service. She was a member of St. John the Beloved Church and the Blessed Virgin Sodality.

Ellen Marie will be dearly missed by her husband of 56 years, Edward Jones, her son and daughter in law, John "Jay" and Melanie Jones of Newark, and two grandchildren, Shawn and Kyle.

Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, January 13 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Beloved, 907 Milltown Rd., Wilmington. Calling hours will be Thursday morning, 9:30-10:30 at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Rds. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 100 W. 10th St. Ste. 209, Wilmington, DE 19801

Otteni, Robert M.

Robert M. Otteni, 84, passed away at the Wilmington Hospital on Friday, April 23, 2010.

Bob was born in Wilmington, one of eight children of the late Rudolph and Amelia (Konitzer) Otteni. Bob grew up at Fourth and Lincoln Streets and graduated from St. Thomas Grade School and Wilmington High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1988 after 30 years as a Laboratory Technician with the DuPont Company.

Bob was an avid golfer and a member of the DuPont Country Club, where he leaves behind many friends. His quick wit and numerous one liners will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His wife of 54 years, Louise (Bouthillet) Otteni passed away in 2002.

Mr. Otteni is survived by his daughter, Sharon Sampson and Mark Ayers of Wilmington; his sons, Robert Otteni of La Pine, OR and Steve Otteni of Ketchikan, AK; his four grandchildren, Dana Severin-Scott and her husband, Michael of Wilmington, Andrea Mattson and her husband, Bill of Oxford, NJ and Kyle and Kelsey Otteni of Portland, OR; his great-grandchildren, Ryan and Julia Seichepine and Ava Mattson. Also left to cherish his memory is Bob's brother, Francis Otteni and his wife, Ann of Bear.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Fourth Street and Bancroft Parkway on Thursday morning at 11 AM, where friends may call after 9:30 AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bob's memory may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713.

Walter Barczewski

Age 87, of Wilmington, DE. passed away peacefully at home on July 19, 2010

Walter is survived by his wife Florence (Bogucki) of 58 years. He is also survived by sons James (Patricia), Mark and John .

Walter was a graduate of Goldey College. Walter lived a full life owning three farms since he was forty six years old. He loved breeding Appaloosa Horses, collecting knives and playing golf. He had a passion for music mastering many musical instruments. He also managed his big band, "The Commanders." Walter began selling Insurance and Real Estate in the 1960's on Maryland Avenue. He was a member of the Appraisal Institute, achieving the MAI designation. He worked for Artisan's Bank as a review appraiser until recently.

Walter was a Veteran of WW II where he enlisted in the Navy and later worked as a Marine medic. He served in the South Pacific and was part of the Guadalcanal Campaign. He will be remembered for his good sense of humor which was appreciated by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors also include 6 grandchildren. Laura, Matthew, Rebecca, Jaclyn, Rory, Devin and one great grandchild, Erick.

Viewing will be held on Friday, July 23, 2010 at 10-1100 am at Mealey Funeral Home on Limestone and Milltown Road where funeral services will begin at 11 am. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery.

Frank N. Odell

"Pop Pop"

Age 90, of Hockessin, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 22, 2010. Frank was born in Elizabeth, NJ, on December 24, 1919, son of the late Charles and Katherine (Deter) Odell. Frank was a graduate of Roselle High School in New Jersey where he was Class Vice President for 2 years, a member of the National Honor Society, and Captain of the Baseball Team. He married his high school sweetheart, Dorothea "Dot" (Aberle) Odell, on her birthday, October 16, 1943. Frank was employed as Laboratory Vacation Relief at the DuPont Company in Newark, New Jersey, in 1940 and attended night school at Newark College of Engineering, which was at that time the 3rd ranking engineering college in the nation. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering. He and his family moved to Delaware in 1956 when he was transferred by the DuPont Company to the Pigments Plant in Newport, Delaware. Frank was a Materials Consultant for the then Chemicals and Pigments Department in 1982 when he retired after 42 years with the DuPont Company. In his spare time, Frank worked on construction projects including masonry, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical wiring. A member of Red Clay Presbyterian Church, Frank served as an Elder, Chairman of the Christian Education Committee, and Trustee/President of the Men's Club. Above all, he was a loving husband and a devoted family man, who organized and supported annual family vacations in Ocean City, NJ, and the Poconos. His last years were spent with his beloved family.

Frank was predeceased by his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothea, and his infant son, Gary Thomas. He is survived by his daughter, Sandy Astolfi; his son, Douglas Odell, and wife Carolyn; 4 grandchildren, Cheri Astolfi, Dustin Astolfi, Colleen (Odell) Sauder, and Kevin Odell; and 3 great-grandchildren, Joshua Astolfi, Julia Sauder, and Gavin Sauder.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Saturday, February 27, between 11:00 am and 12:00 pm, at MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington, where funeral services will begin at 12:00 pm. Interment will be private.

Frank, a victim of polio as a young child, received a surgical operation in 1929 to allow for the removal of bulky metal braces. The surgery, financed by the Elks Club, enabled him to live a full and meaningful life. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 3551 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19140.
