Reardon, Rose Bried

Rose M. (Bried) Reardon, 98 of Wilmington passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at the Lorelton Apartments, her home for the past 7 years.

Mrs. Reardon was born in Brooklyn, NY the daughter of the late Sarah (King) and Bernard Zell. Rose worked as a bookkeeper for the Mayfair Apartments in Wilmington. She was an avid bridge player, a former member of St. Ann's Church and the Junior Board of St. Francis Hospital. Her husband, Henry F. Bried died in 1969.

Rose is survived by her sons, Henry F., Jr. of Scottsdale, AZ, Edward J. of Wilmington, William K., OFM of St. Petersburg, FL and Robert D. and his wife, Ann of Chadds Ford, PA; 6 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday morning at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Fourth Street and Bancroft Parkway, where friends may call after 9:30 AM. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, New Castle, DE 19720.

David B. Curlett

Age 84, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Jeanne Jugan Residence surrounded by his devoted wife, family and the Little Sisters of the Poor.

Born in Wilmington, David was the son of the late Lillian (Wilkie) and David Curlett, Sr. He served his country proudly during World War II in the US Navy, stationed on the USS Wallace L. Lind DD 703. Afterward, he worked as a master carpenter for Sun Ship until the company's closing and then for Hopeman Bros. where he travelled throughout the country. He was a former member of the VFW Diamond State Post and the Drum and Bugle Corp.

He was predeceased by his sister, Jane E. Durham and his stepson Thomas A. Scott. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 44 years, Catherine (Fox) Curlett; his sister, Marie Curlett Phillippe of Wilmington; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 25th at 11 AM at Jeanne Jugan Residence, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713 where friends and family are invited to visitation after 10 AM. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Little Sisters of the Poor, c/o Jeanne Jugan Residence at the above address.

Leon Irving Horner

Age 74, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 8, 2010 at the Heartland Hospice House.

Born in Bridgeton, NJ, Mr. Horner was the son of the late Irving and Irene (Cassidy) Horner. He graduated from Dickinson College with a BA in English Literature and later retired from Continental American Life Insurance Company as the Director of Claims.

Leon was a marvelous piano player who loved classical music, the beauty of the outdoors, reading, walking, and good conversation. He was also a compassionate helper of those struggling with addiction.

He will be dearly missed by his daughters and sons-in-law, Alison and Bill Oldham of Wilmington and Marcia and Jim Dearworth of Nazareth, PA; his grandchildren, Lily, Emily, Molly and Holly; his former wife Marcella, his sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Bruce Seaman and many other close friends and family.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 13th at 1:00 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington, where friends are invited to visitation one hour prior. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, New Castle, DE 19720.

Lourdes S. Chuman

Age 24, of Newark, DE passed away tragically on Sunday, April 18, 2010 after an automobile accident in Philadelphia.

Born in Lima, Peru, Lourdes was the daughter of Al Chuman and Sandy Chuman. She was a graduate of Glasgow High School and was accepted to Harcum College. Presently, she was attending Delaware Technical and Community College, studying dental hygiene and was working at Westside Family Healthcare as a dental assistant. She enjoyed dancing. She was predeceased by her grandfather, Manuel Chuman

She will be dearly missed by her parents, Al Chuman and Sandy Chuman; her brother, Paolo Chuman and his fiancée Kristin Tunell; two grandmothers, Maria Pizarro and Hermenia Macedo; a cousin, Christian Chuman; her boyfriend, Mohamed Elbana; and by loving family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 23rd at 12 noon at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington where visitation will be held after 10 AM. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Delaware Humane Society, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.

Joann Miller-Long (Barczak)

Age 55, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Palm Sunday, March 28, 2010 at Heartland Hospice House after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born December 2, 1955, Joann's pride and joy were truly her three children, Michelle Lauber, Judith Ann Dunsmore and her son, Shawn Dunsmore. She worked at Pathmark, Kirkwood Highway # 586 as a cashier and always said they were like her family - all were so very kind and caring people. They were always by her side for support during her battle with cancer. Joann's famous words were "thank you so kindly".

She is survived by her husband, John J. Long and her mother, Ann M. Barczak of Wilmington, DE. Joann was preceded in death by her father, Henry J. Barczak, Sr. who passed away October 17, 2009. She is also survived by her brothers, Henry J. Barczak, Jr., who was also a caregiver, and her sister Bernadette C. Wood and her husband Nicky S. Wood, Sr., caregivers with love; her nephew, Samuel P. Chickadel and his wife, Carol, were also caregivers with love, and Sam would call her his little Angel. Joann has seven grandchildren.

God bless each and everyone who was so kind to my daughter Joann. All are welcome to visit with Joann's family at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington, on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 between 9:30 and 10:30 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 AM on Wednesday at St. Hedwig's Catholic Church, Linden and S. Harrison Streets, Wilmington. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

The family requests that flowers not be sent but anyone who wishes may make a donation to St. Jude's Hospital for Children, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Heartland Hospice, 256 Chapman Road, Suite 102, Newark, DE 19702.

Skinner, Millard D.

Millard D. Skinner, Jr., 57, of Newark, son of Enid (Chappell) Brumbley and the late Millard D. Skinner passed away on April 16, 2010 at his home.

Mr. Skinner was a retired welder who worked for various companies and was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps. In addition to his mother he is survived by his children, Howard W., Dudley A., and Shani M.; his grandchildren, Shane, Shana, Victoria, Joshua, Cameryn and Cara and his siblings, Norman, Sharon and Diane.

Funeral services will be held at the Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads on Wednesday afternoon at 1 PM, where friends may call after Noon. Burial will be private in the DE Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Judith M. Andrews

Age 69, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at Christiana Hospital on Thursday, January 6, 2011.

Born in Wilmington Judith was the daughter of the late John W. and Henrietta W. (Brown) Kendall. She worked as a unit clerk at Christiana Hospital.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Thomas M. Andrews; her children, Thomas J. Andrews and his wife Stacey of Newark, Jill Marie Ryan and her husband Andrew of Bear, and Robert W. Andrews and his wife Toni; her brother, John W. Kendall of New Castle; 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, January 13th at 1 PM at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2225 DuPont Parkway, New Castle.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the National Kidney Foundation of Delaware Valley, 111 S. Independence Mall East, Suite 411, Philadelphia, PA 19106.

Edward F. Brehony, Sr. "Ted"

Age 78, of Bear, DE, (formerly of Parkside, PA) passed away peacefully on Friday, March 26, 2010.

Born in Pottsville, PA, Ted was the son of the late Edward F. and Agnes V. (Hohman) Brehony. Until his retirement in 1986, he worked for Westinghouse as a machine operator. His hobbies included woodworking and attending his grandchildren's soccer games.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 57 years, Joyce C. (Steele) Brehony; his son, Edward F. "Ted" Brehony, Jr. and his wife, Loretta, of Glen Mills, PA; his daughter, Teresa "Terrie" Lorber and her husband, Don, of Middletown, DE; six grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jordan Brehony, Shane and Todd O'Neill, Austin and Ashley Lorber; one great grandchild, Lily Mae Brehony-Gomez; a brother, Frederick J. Brehony and his wife Patricia of Oregon, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 11 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 345 Bear-Christiana Road, Bear, where friends are invited to visitation after 10 AM. Entombment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

Shirley E. Walls

Age 74, of Frankford, DE, passed away at Beebe Medical Center on Thursday, January 6, 2011.

Born in Wilmington, Shirley was the daughter of the late Willard and Nellie Walls. She worked as a research technician for the DuPont Company, retiring from Chestnut Run at the age of 55.

She is survived by Abby and Penny and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 12th at 12 noon at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington where friends and family are invited to visitation after 11 AM. Interment will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Delaware Humane Society, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
