Scott, Mary

Our beloved mother, Mary M. Scott, age 89, died peacefully, in her home, on March 18, 2010.

Mary was born in Wilmington, Delaware and was the daughter of Susan and Edward Hussey. She graduated from P.S. DuPont High School and Goldey Beacom College. She worked as an executive secretary for Hercules, Inc. for 20 years and retired in 1986.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Raymond, as well as siblings Catherine, Edward, John, James and Joseph. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend.

Mary is survived by her children, Michael and wife Peggy, of Montchanin, Stephen and wife Carmen, of Newark, Susan of Los Angeles, grandchildren Kenny Miller and wife Ann, Jason Miller, Ashley Scott, Joshua Scott and great grandchildren Samantha and Kevin Miller.

She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks for the loving care provided to Mary by Jeanne Abney and Mary Ngoohi.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 24th at 11:00 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 12 Winder Rd., Garfield Park, New Castle, Delaware 19720, where friends may visit from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Ave., Wilmington, Delaware.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Delaware Hospice 3515 Silverside Rd., Clayton Building, Wilmington, Delaware 19810 or to Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Marjorie C. Carr

Age 93, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 16, 2010 at Jeanne Jugan Residence.

Born in Springfield, MA, Mrs. Carr was the daughter of the late Robert and Catherine (Malloy) Douglas. She worked at Wilmington High School in the food service department. Her husband, James F. Carr, predeceased her in 1960.

She was predeceased by her brothers Robert, Jack, Thomas, George, James and Norman, sister Mrs. Mary Sussman and grandson Francis.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Patricia Guerney.

She is also survived by her children, James Carr and wife Jeanette of Wilmington, Kathleen King of Townsend, DE, Margaret Mercante and husband Frank of Wilmington, DE, Thomas Carr and wife Ginny of Townsend DE and Mary Ann Murray; eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 21st at 11 AM at Jeanne Jugan Residence, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713 where friends are invited to visit after 9AM. Interment will be at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Little Sisters of the Poor, c/o the Jeanne Jugan Residence.

Oliver, Clara E.

Clara E. Oliver, 94, formerly of Wilmington, De, passed away peacefully at home in Fernandina Beach, Florida on March 31, 2010, surrounded by her family. She was a graduate of St. Agnes Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, Pa. and served with the army during WW II as a second lieutenant. She met her husband, Edward S. "Porky" Oliver while in the service and they married in Fort Dix, N.J. Clare traveled with her husband on the PGA tour, eventually settling in Wilmington, De to raise their four children..

She was employed by St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington and retired from there in 1987. After retirement, she traveled frequently to visit family and friends, settling in Florida in 1990. Known as "Ollie" to her coworkers and "Mom- Mom" to family and friends, she was a great cook, a champion crossword puzzler, loved Word Finder books and was an intense Scrabble player. She had a gentle spirit and was loved by all who knew her.

Clare was preceded in death by her husband, Edward S. "Porky" Oliver, who died in 1961. She is survived by her children and spouses, Edward S. Oliver III and wife Pat of Whigam, Ga., Joanne Page and husband Tony, with whom she made her home for many years, of Fernandina Beach, Fla., Robert A. Oliver and wife Mary of Newark, De., and John F. Oliver and wife Kathy of Dagsboro, De. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and spouses, Christopher Page, Jennifer and Richard Rosenblum, Heather Csonka and Courtney and Dave Platt, who lovingly cared for Mom- Mom in the last year of her life. Also, Katie Oliver, Erinn and Dan Cook and Craig Oliver, and by eight great- grandchildren, Rachel, Richard and Ryan Rosenblum, Page and Jacob Csonka, Ally and Sophia Platt and John-John Cook.

Funeral services were held on April 2, 2010 in Fernandina Beach, Fl. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington, De., where a graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 8. 2010 at 1:00 PM

Wayne E. Scarborough

Age 86, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at the Hillside House.

Born in Wilmington, Wayne was the son of the late Frank Harvey and Katherine (Latimer) Scarborough. He served his country proudly in the US Navy during World War II. He worked as a commercial artist. He owned and operated Scarborough Systems for 25 years before his retirement.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was predeceased by his son, Christopher Scarborough. He is survived by his son, Leroy "Lee" Scarborough of Wilmington, DE; two stepdaughters, Viviane M. Wilkinson of Cookeville, TN and Jo McLean of Newark, DE; his half sister, Lois Scarborough of Wilmington, DE; and his half brother, Leonard Scarborough of Coatesville, PA.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 24th at 12:45 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington, where friends and family are invited to visitation after 11:45 AM. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the SPCA, PO Box 6067, Stanton, DE 19804.

John C. Hobson

Age 65, of Hockessin, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 surrounded by his family.

Born in Wilmington, John was the son of Jeanne (McGovern) Hobson and the late Charles Hobson. He was a graduate of A. I. DuPont High School. He owned and operated Hobson's Body Shop in Hockessin for 35 years. Prior to owning his own business, he was an auto body mechanic at Delaware Cadillac. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting as well as handicapping horses at Delaware Park. He was a member of the NRA and St. Mary of the Assumption Church. He was a member of the Wickerton Hunt Club in Lazerne County, PA where he served as treasurer.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 43 years, Sheila M. (McInerney) Hobson; his sons and daughter-in-law, Brian and Annemarie of Wilmington and John Brenden and Michele of Newark; his daughter and son-in-law, Erin R. and Kevin Straine of Fair Haven, NJ; his mother Jeanne Hobson; his grandchildren, Sean, Kyle, Hugh, Duncan, Ennis, Braden, and Nathan; his sisters, Charlene Keating and Kate Beattie, both of Hockessin; his brother, Richard Hobson of Hockessin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 22nd at 11:30 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin where friends and family are invited to visitation between 9:30 and 11:15 AM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the John C. Hobson Grandchildren Education Fund, c/o Wilmington Trust Company, 4899 Stoney Creek Plaza, Wilmington, DE 19808.

Elizabeth C. Edwards "Libby"

Age 76, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at Christiana Hospital on Friday, September 10, 2010.

Born in Wilmington, Libby was the daughter of the late Frank and Nellie (Ross) Culley. She worked at Delaware Park as a program seller for 10 years. Prior to that, she worked as an apartment manager. She was predeceased by Leroy Edwards in 1998 and her daughter, Susan, in 1999.

She is survived by her daughter, Frances D. McIntosh of Newark; her sons, Brian J., Eric L. and Jeffrey D. Edwards, all of Wilmington; 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 17th at 12 noon at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington, where friends are invited to visitation after 11 AM. Interment will be private.

June Marie Atz "Nana"

Aged 89 years, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on September 9, 2010 after a brief but courageous battle with Leukemia.

Born in DuBois, PA., June was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marie(Milliron) Smith of Fort Washington, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert in 1987.

June was a retiree of the Stanton School District. She was very active in many ministries at St. James Episcopal Church Millcreek.

She will be dearly missed by her sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Elaine of Wilmington, and David and Linda of Charlotte, North Carolina; her beloved grandchildren, Erica and husband Buddy, William, David and Michael; her sister Eileen and husband Renzo, as well as many close relatives and friends.

There will be a private memorial service for family members.

Thomas W. Curlett III

Age 60, died peacefully surrounded by his family at Christiana Hospital on September 11, 2010.

A lifelong resident of Wilmington and currently a resident of Ingleside Retirement Home, Tom was the son of the late Thomas W. Curlett II and June Wallace Curlett. He grew up in Glen Berne Estates, attended Krebs School and graduated from Conrad High School in 1968. He joined the Navy during the Vietnam War he served on the USS Savannah. In 1972 Tom married Patricia Boyle Curlett and they raised two beautiful daughters together. He was employed as a New Castle County realtor and appraiser for many years.

Tom was involved in the Boy Scouts of America from an early age as a Scout and Patrol Leader in Troop 16 at St. John the Beloved Church. He held positions with several troops over the years, including Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troops 16 and 59 and Packmaster for Cub Scout Troop 559. Currently he was Assistant Packmaster for Cub Scout Pack 19 at Zion Lutheran Church. He excelled in planning trips and teaching the skills of camping, boating, canoeing, and fishing to many Scouts now scattered all over the country.

Tom will be remembered for his interest and skills in all types of outdoor activities. He was unsurpassed in his knowledge of fishing, crabbing, boating, camping, and hunting. Many happy vacations were spent at Ocean City, N.J. and Lewes, DE where he regaled his family with stories of his exploits over the years.

Tom also was an authority on Delaware history, geography, and politics. He had a collection of books on Delaware and the Chesapeake Bay that was unequalled.

Tom was a member of VFW Post 615, the Amputee Support Group, and the Community Action Program at Ingleside. He volunteered teaching amputees at Riverside Hospital.

He is survived by two daughters, Laura Foltz and her husband James, and Rebecca Ford and her husband Michael, two granddaughters, Madeline and Natalie Ford, a brother, John Curlett and his wife Cathy, a niece Cara Pusey (Guy), and two nephews, John R. Curlett (Suzanne) and David Curlett. He is also survived by Patricia Curlett.

Friends may call on Wednesday, September 15, from 6 - 8 pm at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 16, at 12 noon at Peniel Methodist Church, 115 E. Market St. Newport, DE 19804. Graveside services will be held on Friday morning at 11 AM at Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Peniel Methodist Church at the above address or Cub Pack 16, c/o Greg Johnson 2101 Lancaster Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19805.
