Paul J. Slavin

Lifelong Wilmington resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at Shipley Manor. He was 67 years old.

Born in Wilmington, Paul was the son of the late Francis and Eleanor (Ryan) Slavin. He was a 1960 graduate of Salesianum School and earned his Bachelor's Degree from Widener University. He worked as a self employed tax preparer.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Eleanor (Lawn) Slavin; and his sister, Sister Ann Marie Slavin, OSF. He was predeceased by his sister, Carol T. Slavin.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 1st at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 4th Street and Bancroft Parkway, Wilmington, where friends and family are invited to visitation after 9:30 AM. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the ALS Association, Greater Philadelphia Chapter, 321 Norristown Road #260, Ambler, PA 19002.

Joseph C. Ciamaricone

Age 55, of Mattituck, NY, passed away on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 in Greenport, NY.

Born in Wilmington, DE, Joseph was the son of the Samuel Ciamaricone and the late Olga (Pat) Ciamaricone. He worked as a self employed carpenter and builder. His hobbies included fishing and clamming and he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by his brother, Samuel Ciamaricone.

Joseph will be dearly missed by his wife of 21 years, Janet;his children Nicole Bell of Texas, Charity Ciamaricone, Daniel Ciamaricone, Casey Ciamaricone, Emily Ciamaricone all from Mattituck, NY;, 4 grand children, Jannaye, Jonessa, Jillian and Jasmine of Texas; and his father, Samuel Ciamaricone of Newark, DE.

A memorial service will be held in Delaware at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, New Castle, DE 19720.

John G. Timney

Of Middletown, DE, passed away on June 8, 2010 with his family by his side. A single memorial service will be held Friday, June 11th at Odessa Fire Hall at 6 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to New Castle County-Delaware State Fire Police Association, 3201 E. Court Avenue, Claymont, DE 19703.

Dimostenis G. Koumpias "Danny"

Age 82, of Harrisburg, PA, formerly of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at Pinnacle Healthcare Center in Harrisburg, PA.

Born in Chios, Greece, Danny was the son of the late George and Despina (Chamis) Koumpias. He worked as a candy maker at Govatos Chocolate for 25 years in Wilmington, DE and then at Matangos Candies in Harrisburg, PA. Later, he worked as a painter for the State of Delaware and, after retirement, worked part time for Three Little Bakers Dinner Theater. Danny had a smile that lit up a room, a sweet sense of humor and an endearing personality. He so loved his wife, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as they brought him joy to his life. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Katina Kogamahalis, Stavroula Kontozoglou and Alexandra Rospos.

Danny will be dearly missed by his wife of 59 years, Madeline G. (Zahos) Koumpias; his daughter and her family, Diane Foutres of Mechanicsburg, PA; his son and his family, George Koumpias of Wilmington; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister, Aglaia Apostles and his brother, Tony G. Koumpias of New York and their families.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Tuesday, June 15th between 10 and 11:30 AM at Mealey Funeral Home, 703 North Broom Street, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 808 North Broom Street, Wilmington, DE 19805. Interment will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to either Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church at the address above or American Lung Association, 1021 Gilpin Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19806.

Linda A. (Zech) Crump

Age 65, of Newark, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Francis Hospital on Wednesday, July 28th, 2010.

Born in Louisville, KY, Linda was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Barth) Zech. Linda moved to Wilmington with her family in 1957 and then to Newark with her husband in 1969. Linda worked for many years in early childhood education until the birth of her first grandchild in 1993. Her many talents included cooking, cake decorating, art, and interior decorating. She loved her home away from home in Lewes, DE, where she enjoyed boating and fishing on the surf with her family. In their retirement, Linda and her husband enjoyed many trips abroad with their close friends.

Linda was predeceased by her parents and her son Stephen E. Crump. She is survived by her husband Thomas N. Crump and daughters Diane L. Nabb and Jennifer K. Skomorucha, who are better mothers today because of her example as a wonderful Mom-Mom to her four grandchildren; Trevor, Brooke, Jacob and Logan.

The family wishes to extend their thanks to the entire staff at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center and Compassionate Care Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, 4755 Ogletown-Stanton RD, Newark DE, 19713 or to the Compassionate Care Hospice, 702B Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington DE, 19805.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 2nd, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Resurection Church, 3000 Videre Dr. Wilmington DE, 19808. Burial service will follow at All Saints Cemetery Chapel.

Rita C. Robinson

Of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, October 11, 2010.

Her husband, Arthur Robinson, predeceased her in 2005. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Judy Robinson of Wilmington; her grandchildren, Angela and Jamie Robinson; and great granddaughter Julianna.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 15th at 6 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington, where friends are invited to visitation after 5 PM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713.

Burkel, Geraldine Bernadette

Geraldine Bernadette Burkel, 52, of Newark, Delaware, died at home with her family on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 of natural causes. Gerri was born in Wilmington, Delaware on June 18, 1958. Daughter of Anna Mae and Frederick Barry Ventura. Her husband, Deny J. Burkel, predeceased her in May of 2010. She will be greatly missed by her brother Michael James Ventura; sons Frank Christopher Cario Jr. and Thomas Fredrick Burkel of Newark DE, Anthony Ryan Cario of Philadelphia, PA; her step-daughters Claire Francine Cario of Brooklyn, NY, and Aimee Madison Cario of Philadelphia, PA.

A devoted mom, Gerri derived her greatest joy from being with her loved ones, whether it was around her swimming pool, or in her kitchen, as long as she was with them. Her kind spirit was shared with all, always opening her heart and home for anyone in need. Her optimistic view of life gave strength and hope to others and her sunny disposition, smile and laughter will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have had her in their life.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 8th at 11am at Holy Angels Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, where friends are invited to visitation after 10am. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery; in lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Thomas F. Burkel Education Fund, care of Wilmington Trust Co., 2371 Limestone Road, Wilmington, Delaware 19808 or to any Wilmington Trust Branch.

Campbell, Beverly A.

Beverly A. Campbell, 72, of Wilmington passed away on Monday, July 26, 2010 at Christiana Hospital.

Beverly was born in Berwick, PA the daughter of the late Lemul and Irene Whitmere. Mrs. Campbell worked as a secretary for the Delaware State Office of the Medical Examiner for over 10 years. Prior to that Beverly worked at the Fraims Boys Club.

She is survived by her sons, Raymond, Jr. (Barbara), Bryan (Pamela), and Michael (Jennifer); her daughters, Wendy Campbell, Tracy Sechrest (Chuck) and Laurie Dean; her grandchildren, Keith, Kyle, Mandy, Danielle, Jenna, J.J. and Jessie; her great-granddaughters, Nevaeh and Brooke and her three brothers, Randall, Don and Lem, Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 30, 2010 at the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, Limestone and Milltown Roads at 11 AM, where friends may call after 10 AM. Burial in Berwick, PA will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, 4755 Ogletown-Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713.

Hackett, Sr., William Lane

William Lane Hackett, Sr., 66, of Wilmington and Port St. Lucie FL passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.

Bill was born in 1943 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Craig Steelman Hackett and Edith (Phillips) Hackett Wagner. He was a graduate of Olney High School, he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and he was a member of Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Judith Stewart.

He was the founding member and head professional of the Delcastle Golf Club for over 38 years. Some of his many accomplishments include winning the Philadelphia City Golf Championship at age 16, 1972 Delaware Open Champion, President of The Delaware Golf Club Management Corporation, Numerous Philadelphia PGA Section Event Championships and Top Finishes, Competed and Excelled in the Nationwide (Nike) Golf Tour and Senior Series Golf Tour and his Legacy as one of the area's top instructors; mentoring many of the areas premier golfers, is unmatched. He was a Class A PGA Life member. Known as "Wild Bill" by his close friends and family, Bill will be remembered among his close circle for his passion for life, his open and loving heart, his determination, his great sense of humor and always being there for those closest to him. Most important to him in his life was the love that he showed to his wife, children and grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his wife of 41 years, Margaret L. "Peggy" (Cummins) Hackett; his daughters and their husbands, Megan Louise Harris and Mark of Sykesville, MD and Mindy Lane Karahan and Volkan of Port St. Lucie, FL; his son, William Lane Hackett, Jr. of Wilmington; his grandsons, Hunter Stephen and Hogan William Harris; his brother, Craig Steelman Hackett, Jr. and his wife, Belva of Newtown, PA; his step-father, Edmund Wagner of Newtown, PA and numerous nieces and nephews

Bill's family would like to thank Dr. Gregory Masters of the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, Delaware Hospice, his nurse Beth Kincade, Abbey Benadaret of Cardiology Physicians and Dr. Hal Kramer of Stoneybatter Family Medicine for their unwavering support.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday July 31, 2010 at

Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, 500 McKennans Church Road at 12 Noon, where friends may call from 10 to 11:30 AM. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions to either the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, 4755 Ogletown-Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713 or Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810.

Thomfohrde, Ruth

MILFORD — Ruth Thomfohrde, of Milford, formerly of Hightstown, N.J., passed away Oct. 11, 2010. She was 78.

Ruth was born in Torgau Elbe, Germany to the late Frederick Dittmer.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Erika Church.

She is survived by her son, Rudi Thomfohrde of Florida; daughters, Heidi Crohe of New Jersey, Inge Bowyer of Florida; sister, Ursula Nordmann of New Jersery; six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington, DE.
