Quimby, Janet M.

Surrounded by her family, Janet M. Quimby of Bear, DE, age 64 went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 15, 2003 after a long illness. Born in Wilmington, DE on October 28, 1938, she was the daughter of the late John and Alice Gebhart. She attended Brown Vocational High School in Wilmington, DE.

Mrs. Quimby worked for the Christiana School District, Newark, DE for 23 years in food service before retiring in 1995. She enjoyed being around the children and devoted her life to them as she worked at Brookside and Etta J. Wilson Elementary schools. Mrs. Quimby was a member of St. John's-Holy Angels Parish for 42 years where she served as a Eucharistic minister. She was also a member of the Christiana Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

A very giving person, Janet always lit up the room with her smile, sense of humor and contagious laughter. She was a very special person to all she touched. Her family and friends will sadly miss her.

Mrs. Quimby's husband, the late William B. Quimby, died on April 28, 1991. She is survived by her six children and ten grandchildren: Michael and Kathleen Quimby and their children Michael and Matthew; Richard and Karen Quimby and their son Zachary; Doug and Ellen Quimby and their children T.J., Ashley, Brittany and Nicole all of Newark, DE; Paul and Tammie Quimby of Bear, DE with whom she resided; Denise and Mark Zuber and their children Alyson, Amy and Alexis of Newark, DE; and Tracy Hopkins of Claymont, DE. She is also survived by her father and mother in law, Johnnie and Ann Larmore of New Castle, DE; brothers, John Gebhart of Wilmington, DE and Jerome Gebhart of Newark, DE; and sisters Alice Werkheiser of Claymont, DE and Kitty Carson of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is also survived by many brothers and sisters in-law, nieces and nephews and two special young men, Eddie and Andrew Hom, who Mrs. Quimby helped raise. She was preceded in death by five sisters; Grace Marucci; Shirley Grier Alexander; Betty Spencer; Suzanne Creppon Heiser and Joan Ciarlo.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE. on Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at 10:30 am. Friends may call at the Mealey Funeral Home, Milltown and Limestone Roads, Wilmington, DE between 6 - 8 pm on Monday, April 21, 2003 and 9 -10 am on Tuesday April 22, 2003. The internment will be in the All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington, DE following the funeral mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Janet Quimby's memory to Holy Angels Capital Campaign, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE 19711 or Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810.

Seletos, Brandon James

Brandon James Seletos of Smyrna, Delaware passed away on Sunday November 21, 2010 at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE.

He was 24.

Brandon was born February 8, 1986 in Newark, DE the son of James Alan Seletos of Smyrna, and Christine Marie Koepp of Clayton, DE.

He enjoyed fitness and working out, and liked to watch baseball and football, especially the Philadelphia Phillies and San Francisco 49ers.

Brandon earned an apprenticeship as an Electrician at Polytech.

He enjoyed fishing and listening to music. He was also a very good artist, enjoyed drawing, and was a video game master.

Brandon enjoyed the natural sciences and he considered himself to be an advocate for animals and the environment. He attended college at Delaware State University and Delaware Tech for Environmental Studies, and had aspirations of becoming an architect.

He was a history buff, especially of World Politics.

Brandon was known to have a great sense of humor and enjoyed his friends and family laugh.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Constantine and Agnes Seletos; and his maternal grandparents, Horst and Ingeborg Koepp.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Keri Lauren Seletos of Clayton; a step-mother, Carol Seletos of Smyrna, and her two children, Christopher and Lauren Cunningham of Media, PA; an aunt, Ursula Cox and her husband Stephen of Middletown, DE; cousins, Ryan Cox and his wife Holly of Bear, DE, and Derek Cox also of Middletown; an aunt, Connie Cavanaugh and her husband Harold of Newark, DE; an aunt, Pat Jackson and her husband Bill of Bear; an uncle, Gary Hershberger and his wife Aretta of Columbia, SC, and several extended family members.

Services will be Saturday November 27, 2010 at 12 noon in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, DE where friends may call 10am.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Kent County S.P.C.A., 32 Shelter Circle, Camden-Wyoming, DE 19934 or to the Delaware M.S. Society, Two Mill Road, Suite 106, Wilmington, DE 19806.

Werda, Sandi Lee

Sandi Lee Werda of Smyrna, DE passed away at home on Friday, November 19, 2010.

She was 50.

Mrs. Werda was born December 31, 1959 in Dover, DE the daughter of the late Clarence Edward Burris, Jr. and Ruth Edna McNatt Burris.

She worked in security for Dover Downs and formerly worked as a Corrections Officer for the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna.

Mrs. Werda was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 8801 in Smyrna.

She enjoyed spending time on the computer, social networking, and watching football. She also enjoyed playing softball in her younger days.

She is survived by her daughter, Jamie Lee Werda of Smyrna; a sister, Dorothy Rae Daimus and her husband Jim of Clayton, DE; a brother, Thomas R. Burris of Clayton; two nephews, Brandon J. Johnson of Clayton, and Travis R. Burris of Newark, DE; a niece, Teresa R. Burris of Clayton; and one grand-niece; and two grand-nephews.

Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date.

Moffitt, Hazel Silcox

Hazel Silcox Moffitt of Leipsic, DE passed away suddenly on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Kent General Hospital in Dover, DE.

She was 89.

Mrs. Moffitt was born June 8, 1921 in Dover the daughter of the late Louis Silcox and Margaret Frazier Silcox.

She retired after over 30 years of service as a Clerk at the Division of Motor Vehicles in Dover.

Mrs. Moffitt was a lifetime member and past president of the Leipsic Ladies Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel T. Moffitt; and a son, Milton Moffitt.

She is survived by her son, Bruce H. Moffitt and his wife Ellen Anne of Smyrna, DE; a grandson, Michael Moffitt of Smyrna; a granddaughter, Michele Botsch and her husband Roger of Smyrna; 2 great granddaughters, Chelsea and Sydney Botsch, both of Smyrna; 2 special friends, Margie Fox and Emma Lawrence, both of Leipsic.

Viewing services for family and friends will be held on Monday, November 22, 2010 from 1pm to 1:30pm at the Faries Funeral Chapel located on 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, DE.

Funeral services will begin at 1:30pm.

Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Dover following the services.

David Thomas Abbott

Age 43, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 19, 2008.

David was born in Wilmington, DE. He attended St. Thomas Grade School and A. I. DuPont High School. He was employed as a bricklayer for CMS United Inc., and for several years operated the family business Gene Abbott and Sons.

He was preceded in death by his loving grandmother and grandfather, Victoria and William Perry, his grandfather/hero, Gene H. Abbott, Sr., and his aunt, Eleanor.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Abbott; daughter, Lauren; son, Brian; and stepchildren, Dave and Danielle. He is also survived by his devoted parents, Dorothy, and her husband, Don Halverson, and father, Gene, and his wife, Regina Marsilii Abbott; his loving grandmother, Ann T. Abbott; brother, Gene Abbott III; sister, Michele (Shelly) Abbott; his nephews, Ricky Bromwell, Michael, Steven and Logan Abbott; aunts and uncles, Ray, Marge, Dennis and Richard Abbott, Ann Pinghera, Jeanette and Jim Brown, Bill and Donna Perry; cousins and many friends.

David was an exceptional father and his life was about being with his family. He will be best remembered for his handsome smile. David will forever be missed by his family, employers, co-workers, and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Fatima, 801 North DuPont Hwy., New Castle on Friday, January 25th at 11 a.m. Friends may call at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Elsmere on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle.
