Martinez, Mario

Mario Martinez of Dover, DE passed away at home on Tuesday, January 19, 2011.

He was 71.

All services for Mr. Martinez will be private.

Mitchell, Kathleen Ann

Kathleen Ann (Lambertson) Mitchell of Smyrna, DE passed away suddenly at home on Monday November 1, 2010.

She was 61.

Born July 28, 1949 in Delaware, Kathy was proud that she had been in all but four of the states in the continental United States. She had a very successful career in Property management while living in Phoenix, AZ and Salem, OR. An avid pool player, Kathy competed in tournament play for many years. She was proud to be a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. After being away for over thirty years she returned to her native Delaware in 2004.

Kathy was preceded in death by her mother, Bessie May Lambertson.

She is survived by her father, Delbert G. Lambertson of Dover, DE; daughter, Vickie Collins and her fiancé Scott Burchard of Smyrna; son, Douglas J. (DJ) Marshall and his wife Jamie of Smyrna; siblings, Carol Krum and her husband John of Dover, Janice Green and her husband Billy of Somerset, KY, and David Lambertson of Camden, DE; her beloved grandchildren, Cassandra Collins of Chesterfield Township, MI, and Phoebe Marshall and Isabella Marshall, both of Smyrna; and as yet unborn grandchild, Baby Boy Marshall.

Memorial services will be Thursday November 4, 2010 at 6 pm in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, DE, where friends may call one hour prior to the services.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Faries Funeral Home, 29 S. Main St. Smyrna, DE 19977 to help defray funeral expenses.

Marshall, Douglas James "DJ"

Douglas James “DJ” Marshall of Smyrna, DE died on Thursday November 11, 2010 at his home.

He was 38.

Mr. Marshall was born March 3, 1972 in Dover, DE the son of Jimmy Marshall of Clayton, DE and the late Kathy Lambertson Mitchell. The number three was always his lucky number as he was born on 3/3 at 3:33 am.

He worked for several years as a self-employed Waterman, as well as working in the construction industry.

DJ loved crabbing and being out in the water and he loved taking his daughters to the park and taking care of them. He was a good father and a very active dad.

He enjoyed playing football and wrestling during his school years and he also enjoyed racing motorcycles on flat tracks.

DJ was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan ever since he was six years old.

He was a proud member of Leipsic Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a baby brother, Eric; paternal grandparents, Eugenia and Everett Marshall; and maternal grandmother, Mae Lambertson.

He is survived by his father and step mother, Kim, also his beloved wife, Jaime Dawn Marshall; two daughters, Phoebe Dawn Marshall and Isabella Grace Marshall, both at home in Smyrna; a baby boy on the way, to be named Douglas James Marshall, Jr.; his other mom, Yvonne Marshall of Clayton who raised him; a sister, Vickie Collins of Smyrna; a maternal grandfather, Delbert Lambertson of Dover; aunts and uncles, Virginia Davis, Carol Krumm, David Lambertson, and Janice Green; and extended family members.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at 7 pm in the Faries Funeral Chapel located at 29 S. Main St. in Smyrna. Visitation for family and friends will be held before the services from 5:30 to 7 pm.

Emerson, Margaret L.

Margaret L. Emerson of Smyrna, DE passed away at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE on Sunday October 31, 2010.

She was 83.

Mrs. Emerson was born August 14, 1927 in Smyrna, DE the daughter of the late Walter L. Brown and Elsie Emert Brown.

She worked for many years for Playtex in Dover, DE before owning and operating Emerson market in Smyrna.

She was very proud to be a life-long resident of Smyrna.

Mrs. Emerson enjoyed gardening and crafting and enjoyed spending time with her family.

She belonged to the VFW Post #8801 Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, both in Smyrna.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Emerson in 1972; and two brothers, Walter Brown and Bob Brown.

She is survived by her son, Bruce W. Foraker and his wife, Helen of Smyrna; a sister, Betty Pearce of Smyrna; a sister-in-law, Doris Brown of Dover; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be Friday November 5, 2010 at 1pm at Glenwood Cemetery in Smyrna, DE.

Eleanor King Roe

Eleanor King Roe, formerly of Rehobeth Beach, DE, passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 28, 2010 in Shands/University of Florida Hospital in Gainsville, Florida.

Born November 22, 1920, Eleanor was the daughter of the late Grover C. King and Bertha Reed King. She grew up and attended school in Smyrna, DE, graduating in 1939 from John Bassett Moore.

Eleanor owned and operated the Village Inn in Little Creek, DE for over 35 years, where she made many friends during that time. Prior to that, she owned Boyer's Package Store and Bar in Smyrna. Following the sale of the restaurant several years ago, she eventually moved to Dunellen, Florida, where she resumed her lifelong hobby of painting. She was well known locally for portraits of her family and friends, as well as landscapes.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy King Williams, husband William G. Roe, Jr., and a grandson, Keith Douglas Moore, in July 1986.

She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline R. Moore, and her husband Robert of Smyrna, DE, and her son William Michael Roe, of Morriston, Florida. She is also survived by grandchildren Robert Moore, Jr. and wife Amy of Smyrna, DE; Michelle Roe of Magnolia, DE, Jennifer Roe and Christopher Roe, both of Morriston, Florida, and great-grandchildren Dougie, Heather, and Kristen.

A private graveside service will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Faries funeral Directors and Crematorium Inc., 29 South Main Street Smyrna, DE.

Estep, Jimmie E.

Jimmie E. Estep began his eternal life on Dec 19th. He enjoyed 67 years among family and friends. Jim was born in Kingsport TN to his proud parents Edmond Paul and Mamie Estep. He grew up in New Castle DE with his siblings, Billy, Marylou, Douglas, and Thomas. He attended William Penn High School. Jim went on to serve in the US Army where he excelled as an expert marksman. After leaving the Army, he became a barber and worked from his shop on New Castle Ave.

It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Barbara Moore. They were married in January 1965 and cherished their vows until he took his last breath. He became a father with the birth of his son, Jimmie E. Estep, Jr., followed by the birth of his daughter, Dawne D. Estep. He was a devoted father and built his family a home outside Townsend DE. He became a grandfather with the birth of Shannon N. Hartnett, who wrapped him around her little finger. His son married Jessica Hubert whom Jim loved dearly. His and Barb's siblings married and blessed him with many nieces and nephews.

He joined the Teamsters and was employed as a truck driver with several companies before retiring from Brandywine Construction Co. He was a jack-of-all-trades and could build or repair almost anything. He willingly used those skills to help anyone in need.

He was passionate and competitive about any activity he pursued including softball, hunting, fishing, bowling, pinochle and golf. He was a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 351 and helped many young men to grow into productive members of society.

Jim had an outgoing personality and most people who met him never forgot him.

He will be missed by his family and his many friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010 at 7 pm in Townsend Free Will Baptist Church located at 4519 S. DuPont Hwy. in Townsend, where friends may call from 5 to 7 pm.

Private burial services will be held on Thursday morning at Sharon Hills memorial Park in Dover.

To honor his memory, the family suggests a monetary or blood donation to the Blood Bank of Delmarva.
