Brown, David W.

David W. Brown, of Smyrna, and formerly of the Camden-Wyoming area, passed away on Tuesday May 25, 2010 at Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 59.

He was a graduate of Caesar Rodney High School and had been employed for many years as an equipment operator for Adel Construction.

He had a love for standard-bred horse racing and was most often found riding in his old pickup with his dog and riding buddy, Baxter the Boxer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Edna Brown; his brother, Ronnie Brown; and a step-daughter, Amber Tompkins.

He is survived by his wife, Crystal H. Brown; a son, Ronnie Brown, of Rehoboth; two step-sons, Joshua Wiley, of Smyrna; and Matthew Wiley, of Jacksonville, FL; a brother, Steve Brown, of MD; two sisters, Joy Dill, of Camden; and Diane Sheltise, of MD; and three grandchildren, Jadyn Brown; Sevyn Tompkins; and Bryndan Tompkins.

Services will be private.

If desired, contributions may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.

Arrangements are by Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Smyrna.

Forbes, Rita M.

Rita M. Forbes, of Smyrna, passed away on May 30, 2010. She was 81.

She was born in Philadelphia, and had resided in Smyrna since 1976.

Mrs. Forbes was a homemaker and was a member of St. Polycarp Catholic Church, Smyrna.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harry Forbes Jr.; and three sons, Martin, Harry III, and Frankie Forbes.

She is survived by two daughters, Jeannie Pennewell and Mary Paulish; two sons, Robert and Charles Forbes; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 12:00 PM Friday June 4 at St. Polycarp Catholic Church, Ransom Lane and South St., Smyrna. Friends may call Friday at 10:00 AM at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna.

Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna.

Bragg, Geraldine M.

Geraldine M. Bragg, of Clayton, passed away on June 23, 2010. She was 72.

She was employed for many years as a switchboard operator at the DE Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold E. Bragg.

She is survived by two children, Kimbra Wolfenden, of Frederica; and Robert Norris, of Owego, NY; her siblings, Kathleen L. Jacobs, of Bear; Terry (Pete) Norris, Sylvan (Skip) Norris, Jeanne Norris, and Barbara Earnest, all of Lewistown, PA; Dorothy (Dody) Nicely, of Burnham, PA; and Maria Lane, of McVeytown, PA; 3 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; and her beloved cat "Tabby".

Memorial Services will be held 6:00 PM Thursday July 8 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna. Interment will be private.

Lythgoe, John T.

John T. Lythgoe, 88, husband of Evelyn (Dahm) Lythgoe passed away Monday March 1 at home, after a short illness. He was surrounded by his wife and family.

John Lythgoe was born in Philadelphia, and lived most of his life there before retiring to Delaware in 1984. He is survived by his wife, along with six children: Jack, Sr. Anne Lythgoe, OP, Marge McGlinchey, Mark, Gerry and Matthew. He is preceded in death by his son Paul and daughter Christine, his brother Robert Lythgoe, and sisters Catherine McCann and Mary Garnett. He is also survived by six grandchildren and four great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

A member of St. Polycarp Parish, He was a dedicated member of the St. Vincent dePaul Society for many years. A man of the Church all his life, John Lythgoe was ready to help any person in need, without question or without thought of his own time or effort.

In 2008 he was offered the Order of Merit by the diocese of Wilmington who recognized his distinctive contribution to the Church and his generous service. In typical fashion, he accepted the award, but did not attend the ceremony, not wanting to draw attention to himself, believing that the Vincentian spirit required him to "do good and disappear".

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Vincent dePaul Society c/o St. Polycarp Parish, 135 Ransom Lane, Smyrna, DE 19977.

At his request, the family will hold a celebration of his life at a later time. Private Interment will take place at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.

Ryan, Raymond "Reds" Francis

Raymond Francis Ryan "Reds" - Age 71 of Smyrna

After a long, courageous struggle with congestive heart failure, Raymond Ryan passed away at home on Saturday, April 17, 2010.

Raymond was born in Holloway Terrace, the son of Walter T. and Mary V. Ryan. He graduated from William Penn High School in 1956. He was a four-year member of the football, basketball, and baseball teams. As an accomplished athlete, he later went on to try out for the Philadelphia Phillies and also led the Blue team as co-captain in the 1st Annual Blue/Gold Football game held in 1956. In fact, he still holds the Blue/Gold record for highest pass completion percentage.

After graduation, he went on to marry his high school sweetheart, Barbara Arrington. They were happily married for 48 years with two daughters and five grandchildren, who were the light of their lives. He moved his family to Smyrna in 1970 to a home that he proudly built himself. "Reds" was a lifetime member of the International Asbestos Workers - Local 42 in New Castle, DE. He joined at age 18, working as an apprentice and ended his career there over 30 years later as the Business Agent. He was actively involved in the Democratic party and strongly supported Labor Unions. He moved his family to Rehoboth Beach in 1986 where he enjoyed living on the water, golfing, crabbing, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. Ray moved back to Smyrna in 1996, where he resided until his death. Over the years, "Reds" enjoyed the company of good friends at the former "Paddock", at Kelley's, at both Stahl Post American Legion and VFW clubs, and at Moore's Picking Building. In recent years, he enjoyed nightly rides to Woodland Beach, playing cards, and watching local sports. Raymond was a truly hard-working, generous person and enjoyed passing these traits onto his children and grandchildren. "Reds" was bigger than life. He never met a stranger and will be dearly missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his wife Barbara in 2004. He is survived by his daughters and son-in laws, Barbie and Wayne Reed and Donna and Bobby Virdin, all of Smyrna; grandchildren, Amy and Brian Rhodes, Courtney Reed, Ryan and Holly Hufford, Rodney Hufford, and Gabrielle Virdin; great-grandchildren, Caroline and Jackson Rhodes, and Riley Hufford; and siblings and spouses, Toby and Shirley Ryan, Marianne and Billy Taylor, Jimmy and Mary Ryan, Sheila McCall, and Bobby and Peggy Ryan. He will also be dearly missed by a host of nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Wednesday April 21 from 6-9PM at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, DE. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home 11:00 AM Thursday April 22 with burial to follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Delaware Blue/Gold supported D.F.R.C. at 640 Plaza Drive, Newark, DE 19702.

Pietrucha, Genevieve "Millie" E.

After a long and fulfilling life of 85 years, Genevieve E. (Millie) Pietrucha, departed this world on October 25, 2010. Born on June 30, 1925 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Alexander and Emily Grodek, she was one of six children. She married Theodore Stephen Pietrucha, an Air Force Sergeant, in 1953 and raised four children in Forestville, Maryland where she lived for 50 years. Five years ago, Millie moved to Smyrna, Delaware with her oldest daughter and son-in-law.

Millie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister Helen Lesko; three brothers, John, Alexander, and Stanley Grodek; and her niece, Diane Lesko.

Millie loved to spend time with the children in her life and leaves behind her four children, Joyce Tolson, of Smyrna; Theodore Pietrucha Jr., of Upper Marlboro, MD; Elaine Pietrucha, of Smyrna; and David Pietrucha, of Forestville, MD; four grandchildren, Robert Tolson; Amanda (Tolson) Grasmick; Theodore Pietrucha III; Timothy Pietrucha; five great-grandchildren, Nichole Miller; Brendan Tolson; Victoria Tolson; Cody Kidwell; Donny Grasmick; one great-great-grandson, Tyler Kidwell; several nieces and nephews and many other children who loved her; her brother, Henry Grodek and his wife Chris; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Barnosky; a son-in-law, Ronald Tolson; and two daughters-in-law, Larua Pietrucha, and Susan Pietrucha.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday October 30, 2010 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, DE. Following visitation, on Saturday a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 PM at St. Polycarp Catholic Church, 135 Ransom Lane, Smyrna, DE.

Millie will be buried next to her husband, who died in 1978, at Resurrection Cemetery, Upper Marlboro, Maryland at a later date.

Cahall, Millicent McBride

Millicent McBride-Cahall

Millicent, Age 66, of Newark fulfilled her purpose and passed into the arms of angels on April 23, 2008. Millicent was a unique and outgoing soul who touched and inspired others wherever she went. She strived to appreciate the beauty in all things and people amid the challenging tides of life, and held strong her faith in God and love. She identified with the transforming nature of the butterfly and believed what she was meant to be, she was becoming.

A devoted mother, grandmother and homemaker, she worked in the Atlantic City casino industry through the 1980s until settling in the field of home healthcare in the 1990s. Survived by a large and every-loving family, her spirit will live to smile down on those who believe'¦Every end is a new beginning.

Millicent was raised in the New Castle area and was a graduate of Wilmington Penn High School. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Alberta McBride as well as her brother, Henry. She is also preceded by her husband, Paul Cahall, who passed in 2007.
