Shirley M. Queen

Age 74 Wilmington, DE died Thursday, December 4, 2003 in Christiana Hospital.

Mrs. Queen was a secretary for the Chrysler Corporation. She retired in 1987 after 30 years of service. She was a fifty year member of the St. John's United Methodist Chruch-Lewisville and an active member of the Newark Senior Center.

She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel J. Queen, Jr. who died January 27, 1985. She is survived by her sister and best friend, Frances Jackson of Oxford, PA; her children, Mark Pennington of Clayton, Vincent "Purkey" Pennington of Bear, Sheri Pawlyk of Marydel, MD, Michael Queen of Pike Creek, Daniel Queen, III of Houston, TX; and five grandchlidren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Tuesday morning, December 9, at 11:00 am, where friends may call beginning at 10: am. Internment will be in St. John's Cemetery-Lewisville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John's Methodist Church, 595 Lewisville Road, Elkton, MD 21921

Quillen, Harold T.

Harold T. Quillen, age 84, beloved husband and father, departed this life on Nov. 4. Born in 1922 in Showell, MD, the son of George and Anna Quillen, the family later moved to Milford, Delaware. A WWII Army veteran, he married Marjorie Walls in 1946. They raised two children, Ronald and Michele. He enjoyed over 58 years of marriage until her death in 2005.

He managed auto parts stores until his retirement. While in Smyrna he was an active member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church and Lions Club. A devoted family man and loyal friend who enjoyed dancing, singing, traveling, camping, and fishing. He will be remembered for his gregarious spirit and the life of any party, along with his beloved, Marjorie. Though saddened by his loss, we are comforted knowing that his spirit is now released to join his "dance partner" once again.

He is survived by: a son, Ronald T. Quillen and wife Toni of Felton, a daughter, Michele Q. Johnson of Smyrna, Carol Alamares also of Smyrna who was like a daughter to him, three grandchildren, Allyson Quillen, Jesse and Jordan Johnson, two great-grandchildren, a sister Beatrice and her husband Ernest Jefferson of Salisbury, and several nieces, nephews, and friends who shared many happy times with him through the years.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday November 8, 2006 at 1PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main St., Smyrna, DE. Internment will be private at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Milford.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Peter's Church, 22 N. Union St., Smyrna, DE 19977.

Theresa A. Quinn

"Tecy"

Age 75, formerly of 421 S. Rodney St., died suddenly at St. Francis Hospital on Thursday, December 30, 2004.

Tecy graduated from St. Elizabeth High School and Goldey Beacom College. She was an office manager at Nauman Insurance Agency in Wilmington for many years, and was a member of the St. Elizabeth R. C. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents James and Theresa Quinn, Sr., and a brother James A. Quinn, Jr. She is survived by three sisters, Rita G. Szymanski, Eileen Q. and her husband John Hemphill Sr., and Martina M. and her husband Leonard Quill all of Wilmington; and 17 nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Elizabeth R. C. Church, Oak and Clayton Sts., Wilmington on Mon. Jan. 3rd at 10 a.m. Friends may call at the Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Elsmere on Sun. Jan. 2nd from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

Quillen, Anne Elizabeth

Anne Elizabeth Quillen of Dover died Wednesday April 20, 2005 in Courtland Manor Nursing Home, Dover. She was 82.

Mrs. Quillen was born September 15, 1922 in Elkton, Maryland to the late James A. and Ardella Mentzer.

She worked at Sears Credit Department for 5 years in the mid 50's and left in the early 60's to work for Farmers Bank where she retired after 25 years of service.

Mrs. Quillen lived at Luther Towers in Dover for 19 years and was a dedicated and faithful volunteer. She organized the walk for the March of Dimes each year and recruited the residents to walk around the buildings to raise money for the organization. She organized bus trips and parties for the residents and was president of the Luther Towers Resident Council for several years. Mrs. Quillen will be remembered for her ability to entertain, especially dressing from head to toe in Green for St. Patrick's Day. Many will remember her friendly face at the front desk.

She was preceded in death by her first husband John Brown and her second husband Francis Quillen. She was also preceded in death by her infant daughter Janice Ann Brown, a grandson, Roger S. Brown, Jr.; four sisters, Marion Schneider, Mary Brown, Lorraine Mentzer and Ardella Hannum and one brother, Charles Mentzer.

Mrs. Quillen is survived by two sons, John M Brown and his wife Mary of Dover, Roger S. Brown and his wife Carol Sue of Camden; one daughter, Judith Ridgway and her husband Ronald of Dover; one brother, Robert Samuel Mentzer and his wife Millie of Ohio; two sisters, Nellie Baker of Dover, Sarah Litwa of Chester, PA; four grandchildren, Michelle Brown, Gregory Brown, Michael Giffin and Cinnamon Giffin; two great grandchildren, Dacien Giffin and Lennon Giffin.

Funeral services will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.

Quill, Ruth Ann

Ruth Ann (Thomas) Quill passed away at her home after a long illness on Friday, May 25, 2007 surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Quill was the daughter of the late Oscar and Agnes (Harkins) Thomas. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family and watching children. She was a longtime member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son Kevin J. Quill.

She will be dearly missed by her husband of 61 years, William J. Quill, her son, Thomas W. Quill and wife Linda and her daughter, Mary Lou McNulty, all of Wilmington. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Molly, Maggie, Michael, Jr., Lauren, Joshua, and Jason, the loves of her life, her two great granddaughters Alexa Cruz and Adriana Gonzalez (Her "Apple Pie"). She also leaves behind a son-in-law Michael P. McNulty, Sr. sisters in law, Catherine Lenoir, Alice Elliott, and Margaret Olkowski and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice, especially Sandy and Margaret for their kind and loving care and to Fr. Charles Dillingham for his unwavering support.

Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, May 30, 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Cedar and Clayton Sts., Wilmington. Calling hours will be Tuesday evening 6-8 PM at the church. Interment will be in Cathedral Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Elizabeth Church, 809 S. Broom St. Wilm., DE 19805 or to Compassionate Care Hospice, 5610 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19808.

Quay, John Henry

John Henry Quay of Clayton, Delaware, passed away at home, Saturday January 17, 2009.

He was 68.

Mr. Quay was born April 20, 1940 in Elkton, Maryland the son of the late Frank and Mary Thompson Quay.

He worked as the Recreation Supervisor for the State of Delaware Department of Corrections for 23 years before retirement.

Mr. Quay was an avid sports fan, especially NASCAR and enjoyed playing racketball.

He also enjoyed playing Backgammon with his sons and grandchildren but his true love was spending time with his wife, Janice Sue Boggs Quay.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Shawn C. Quay of Smyrna, Delaware and Aaron D. Quay of Clayton; two brothers, Frank Quay, Jr. of Wilmington, Delaware and Charles Quay of Elkton, Maryland; a sister, Elsie Bullock also of Elkton and four grandchildren, Joshua, Shawn Jr., Nicholas and Sabrina.

Services will be Saturday January 24, 2009 at 12noon in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware where friends may call one hour prior to the services.

Burial will be private and the family request no flowers.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to your favorite charity.

Arrangements are by Faries Funeral Directors and Crematorium inc., 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware.

Quinn, Sr. Bernadette de St. Jean Baptiste

Sr. Bernadette de Jean Baptiste Quinn, age 61, of the Little Sisters of the Poor, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 13, 2002 surrounded by her loving family and Little Sisters at the Jeanne Jugan Residence.

Born in Pawtucket, RI, Sister was the daughter of the late John D. and Helen (McCoy) Quinn. She entered the Congregation in 1958 and made her final vows in 1966. Sister has been in Newark since 1999 as the Director of Nurses. She has served in this capacity in several Homes.

She will be missed by her stepmother, Shirley Quinn; three sisters, Ann Chew of California, Susan Vetri and Mary Webb, both of Rhode Island; five brothers, Michael of Alaska, Christopher of Florida, Donald of Hawaii, William and Peter, both of Rhode Island; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10:30 am at Jeanne Jugan Residence, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713. Friends are invited to call at the Residence on Thursday between 2 pm and 8 pm where an evening prayer service will take place at 5 pm. Interment will be at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Little Sisters of the Poor, c/o Jeanne Jugan Residence.
