Quick, Robert H.

Army

Robert H. Quick of Dover, DE died on Tuesday March 30, 2010 at Bayhealth Medical Center in Dover.

He was 74.

Mr. Quick was born May 15, 1935 in Syracuse, NY to the late Joseph and Jane Elizabeth Lyonette Quick.

He served honorably during the Korean War in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Quick worked as a Certified Tree Expert and Foreman for Atlantic States Tree Experts in Wilmington, DE for 22 years before leaving in 1970 due to disability.

His hobbies included fishing, gardening, and barbecuing for the family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his best friend, Jack Albright.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Linda; four daughters, Teresa Quick-Daniels and her husband Jack of Smyrna, DE, Connie Snead and her husband Samuel of Smyrna, Kimberly A. Quick-Webster and her husband Robert of Camden, and Lyn Quick of Dover; three children from his previous marriage, Juanita Quick, Robert H. Quick, Jr., and Sarah Quick; grandchildren, Kristy Quick, Robin Daniels, Tiffany Daniels, Candie Quick, Matthew Daniels, Robert Webster, Jr., and Elizabeth Quick; 9 great grandchildren and his close friend, Cliff Hart..

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 5pm in the Faries Funeral Chapel located on 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, DE, where friends may call at 4pm.

In lieu of flowers the family has suggested contributions be made to the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses.

Van Pelt, Carroll Frank

Carroll Frank Van Pelt of Clayton, DE died on Friday, October 8, 2010 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE.

He was 88.

Mr. Van Pelt was born May 21, 1922 in Smyrna, DE the son of the late Jay Lee Van Pelt and Anna Robinson Van Pelt.

He was very proud to have served his country honorably during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Force.

He retired in 1990 as an Automobile and Truck Mechanic after 50 years of work for Rothwells Garage, which is now BCP in Smyrna.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 14 and VFW Post 8801, both in Smyrna.

Mr. Van Pelt was a hard working dedicated husband and father.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Betty Newcomb and Ethel Mills; and a brother, James Van Pelt.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Alice; 2 sons, James Walls and his wife Sharon of Smyrna, and Donald Van Pelt and daughter-in-law, Peggy Van Pelt both of Clayton; 2 daughters, Jodie Burchard and her fiancée, Dick Johnson of Dover, DE, and Brenda Thomas and her companion, Joseph Traina of Logan Township, NJ; 3 sisters, Anna Marie Wheatly of Cheswold, DE, Barbara Davis of Elmsworth, Maine, and Nancy Teat of Clayton; 5 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 10:30 am in the Faries Funeral Chapel located on 29 S. Main St. Smyrna, DE, where friends may call at 9:30 am.

Burial will be at Sharon Hills Memorial Park in Dover, DE.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to Delaware Hospice, 911 South DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19904.

Maxwell, Sr., Robert K.

Robert K. Maxwell, Sr. of Townsend, Delaware passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday May 11, 2010.

He was 69.

Mr. Maxwell was born November 8, 1940 in Wilmington, Delaware the son of the late George Maxwell and Madeline Klabe Maxwell.

He worked as an Insulation Contractor for All-Temp Insulation, Inc. in Townsend for many years. He was a workaholic who really enjoyed his work.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Elks in Cape Coral, Florida. Mr. Maxwell enjoyed crabbing and fishing and enjoyed going to the horse races at Dover Downs. He also cherished the time that he had spent with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy L. Maxwell in 2005.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Joan R. Maxwell; his son, Robert Maxwell, Jr. and his wife Louise of Townsend; step son, Robert Green Jr. and his wife Dee of Townsend; step daughter, Tammy Zinni of Pennsville, New Jersey; a brother, George Maxwell and his wife Pat of Magnolia, Delaware; a sister, Madeline Cloud and her husband Randy of Newark, Delaware; 9 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

His family is especially grateful for the special care and support that he received from the nurses, doctors, and staff of the Helen Graham Cancer Center and Delaware Hospice.

Services will be Friday May 14, 2010 at 6 pm in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street, Smyrna, Delaware, where friends may call from 4-6 pm.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice 911 South DuPont Highway Dover, DE 19904.

McKinney, Carol

Carol McKinney of Townsend, DE passed away on Sunday August 1, 2010 in the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.

She was 68.

Mrs. McKinney was born November 5, 1941 in Everett, PA the daughter of the late William Clair Clark and Marie Brallier Clark of Smyrna, DE.

Mrs. McKinney worked as an Executive Assistant for over 30 years for the Town of Smyrna.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time in her beach house, making crafts, baking and cooking.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Bobby Gene McKinney; a daughter, Sandy D. Hamilton and her husband Jim of Elizabethton, TN; two sons, Mitchell G. McKinney and his wife Dawn of Clayton, DE, and Rodney S. McKinney and his wife Brigitte of Smyrna, DE; a brother, David Clark and his wife Barbara of New Cumberland, PA; a sister, Shirley Bircher of Delray, WVA; 2 granddaughters, Lindsay and Tiffany Hamilton; and 5 grandsons, Andrew, Patrick, and Christopher McKinney, and Kurt Reed and Logan McKinney.

Memorial services will be Wednesday August 4, 2010 at 7 pm in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, DE where friends may call two hours prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association, 200 Continental Drive, Newark, DE 19713.

Baker, III, James R. "Jimbo"

Marines

James "Jimbo" R. Baker, III of Clayton, DE, beloved husband of Christine Rose Baker died peacefully on July 30, 2010 in Smyrna.

He was 62.

Mr. Baker was born in Chester, PA on November 9, 1947. He served in the USMC and was awarded the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and the Purple Heart among others.

James enjoyed being with his many friends, especially fellow Marines, and riding his Harley.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothea Sutter Baker, his father, James R. Baker, Jr.; and his sister, Jean Goodwin.

He is survived by his daughters, Patricia Johnson of Seaford, DE and Dawn Sturgeon of Clayton, DE; and a son, Larry Hall of Townsend, DE.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday August 5, 2010 from 9 to 10 AM in the Faries Funeral Chapel located at 29 S. Main Street, Smyrna, DE.

Burial will be held in the Delaware Veterans Cemetery in Bear, DE at 11 AM.
