Poore, Emma L.

Emma L. Poore of Smyrna, Delaware, passed away Monday May 3, 2010 in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital.

She was 63.

Mrs. Poore was born July 8, 1946 the daughter of the late Mitchell and Elizabeth Reed Poore.

She was a production worker for Hanover Foods in Clayton, Delaware for 21 years before retirement.

Mrs. Poore enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading and going to the slots.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Mitchell and Noble Poore and a sister, Ethel Morris.

She is survived by two sons, Don Duhadaway and his wife, Andrea Marth of Holden, MA and Kevin Duhadaway of Smyrna; a daughter, Robin Duhadaway and her partner, Elizabeth Barnhart of Smyrna; three sisters, Lucille McMillan of Port Deposit, MD, Ann Myers of Elkton, MD and Linda Snow of Smyrna and her grandchildren, Sarah Sanchez, Mark Harris, II, Corey and Michael McMillan and Zachary Ess.

Services will be Friday May 7, 2010 at 2pm in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware where friends may call one hour prior to the services.

Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery Smyrna, DE.

Kaer, Betty J.

Navy

Betty Jane Kaer of Smyrna, Delaware died on Sunday May 2, 2010 in Kent General Hospital in Dover, Delaware.

She was 81.

Mrs. Kaer was born May 3, 1928 in Green Island, Iowa to Harry F. and Augusta M. Frank.

She attended public schools in Iowa and the University of Northern Iowa and taught school for three years. She was a control tower operator in the U.S. Navy for two years. She retired in 1990 as a Finance Officer for a New York State agency.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Harriett Sass of Los Alamos, New Mexico and Joann Jocquinot of Phoenix, Arizona.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Richard L. Kaer; her daughter, Marjorie Feinberg and her husband, Paul and their son, Jesse; and a sister, Mary Paetow of Aurora, Colorado.

Services will be private.

She will be buried at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, Delaware of Thursday May 6, 2010.

Miller, William S. "Bill"

Army

William S. "Bill" Miller of Dover, Delaware passed away at home Wednesday May 12, 2010.

He was 77.

Mr. Miller was born October 4, 1932 in Kansas City, Kansas the son of the late Samuel S. and Elizabeth "Betsy" Fry Miller.

He was a self-employed truck driver for most of his life before retirement.

Mr. Miller enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was known as a great story teller and for tinkering with anything he could take apart and put back together.

Mr. Miller enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling in his motorhome and spending his winters at his home in Naples, FL.

Mr. Miller served in the United States Army.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Durham in 1992.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Pritchett Miller; three children, Judy L. Sherwood of Dover, E. Diane Davis and her husband, Dave of Hartly, DE and William S. Miller, Jr.and his wife, Alice of Smyrna, DE; his brothers, Robert, Samuel, Floyd, Raymond and Johnnie Miller; his sisters, Sadie Miller, Clara Thibodeau and Esther Miller; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday May 18, 2010 at 11am in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, DE where friends may call Monday from 6 to 8pm.

Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park Dover, DE.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care of Delaware, 220 Continental Drive Suite 101 Newark, DE 19713.

Collum, Irene "Rene"

Irene "Rene" Collum of Smyrna, Delaware passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday June 15, 2010.

She was 86.

Mrs. Collum was born November 18, 1923 in Liverpool, England the daughter of the late William Penkeyman and Emily Gilbert Penkeyman.

Rene served proudly as a corporal in the Royal Air Force during World War II. It was during this time that she met her husband at a dance.

She worked as a church housekeeper for Ft. Washington Collegiate Church in New York City, where she served as a member of the Mothers Club for the church.

Rene had a passion for gardening and she loved to sew and eat ice cream and loved her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Collum in 2003; three brothers, William, John, and Harry Penkeyman; two sisters, Freida Muckrose, and Betty Reeves.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Donnelly and her husband Peter of Smyrna, and Marge Collum of Smyrna; a sister, Dorothy May of Queensland, Australia; two grandchildren, Laurie Enright of Cold Spring, New York, and T.J. Cannariato of Clearwater, Florida; and a great grandson, Michael Charles Enright of Cold Spring, New York.

Services will be Sunday June 20, 2010 at 2pm in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware where friends may call one hour prior to the services.

Burial will be held privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, Delaware.

Marker "Sissy", Margaret L.

Margaret L. Marker "Sissy" of Dover, DE passed away peacefully at home on Thursday August 5, 2010.

She was 79.

Mrs. Marker was born December 6, 1930 in Chester, PA the daughter of the late George W. Marvel and Effie M. Smith Marvel.

Sissy was a homemaker who enjoyed kidding around and joking with people and going shopping. She was a loving mother who always did her best for her children. She was also a member of the Little Creek Ladies Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin H. Marker in 1973.

She is survived by three sons, Benjamin H. Marker, Robert W. Marker, and Bill Marker all of Dover, DE; two daughters, Margaret E. Marker of Dover, and Patty A. Marker-Adkins of Pocomoke, MD; a sister, Anna Mae Sherman of Littlecreek, DE; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Her family is especially grateful for the excellent level of care and compassion that she received from the nurses of Seasons Hospice.

Funeral services will be Tuesday August 10, 2010 at 11 am in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, DE where friends may call one hour prior to the services.

Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery Smyrna, DE.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses.
