Kyle Fluit

Kyle Gene Fluit, 21, of Inwood died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at Inwood.

Services were Wednesday at Inwood Christian Reformed Church with interment in Richland cemetery .

Mr. Fluit was born May 10, 1981, in Rock Rapids, the son of Larry and Marti (Abels) Fluit. The family lived in Rock Rapids for a short time before moving to a farm north of Alvord where they farmed 12 years. They then moved to an acreage near Inwood. He attended West Lyon School through the eighth grade and had recently graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull. While in high school, he worked at Town & Country Restaurant in Inwood, as a farm hand and at Vande Weerd Combine at Rock Valley. This spring he had begun working for Vander Waal Concrete at Hull.

Survivors include his parents of Inwood; five brothers, Neil of Lebanon and Joel, Lyle, Matt and Ethan, all of Inwood; paternal grandparents, Wilmer and Sylvia Fluit of Rock Rapids, and maternal grandmother, Trena Abels of George.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John Abels.

Loren Harberts

Loren Harberts, 78, of Little Rock died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at Sibley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Services were Thursday at Salem Reformed Church, Little Rock, with interment in Pleasant View cemetery .

Mr. Harberts was born March 1, 1924, near George, the son of Harm and Marie (Van Hauen) Harberts. He grew up and attended country school near George. He served in the army from July 1944-August 1946. He then drove truck for Koerselman Brothers of George until 1951.

On March 22, 1950, he married Sylvia Blau in George. They farmed in the Stockholm, S.D., area from 1951-1953. They farmed near Little Rock from 1953 until retiring in 1994 when they moved into Little Rock. He also sold Dekalb Seed Corn several years.

He was a 45-year member of Little Rock American Legion, president of Little Rock Community School Board 12 years and member of Town and Country Club in Little Rock. At Salem Reformed Church he served as deacon and elder, sang in the adult and men's choirs and sang in quartets at Zoar and Salem Reformed churches.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Darrell of Portales, N.M., Lennis of Sibley and Donell of Rock Valley; two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Joleen) DeJong of Ellsworth, Minn., and Mrs. Patrick (Carol) Morgan of Spencer; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Orval of George, and three sisters, Mrs. Marlyn (Ethel) Wibben of Ellsworth, Mrs. Ron (Mavis) Niebruegge of Spirit Lake and Mrs. Marvin (Sharon) Schultz of Courtland, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Marlys Jurrens, and one granddaughter, Mary Lynn Harberts.

Lyman Hobson

Lyman Hobson, 65, of Merrill died suddenly Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services were Thursday at Merrill United Methodist Church with interment in Hillside cemetery .

Mr. Hobson was the son of Lyman and Martha Hobson. He grew up in Doon and graduated from Doon High School in 1955.

He married the former Glenda Zigtema, a native of Doon.

Survivors include his wife, one son, three daughters and one brother, Roger of Phoenix, Ariz.

Donna Bonander

Donna Bonander, 77, of Larchwood died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at Rock Rapids Health Centre.

Memorial services were Thursday at Beaver Valley Lutheran Church, rural Brandon, S.D., with inurnment in Beaver Valley South cemetery .

Donna Hocke was born Jan. 18, 1925, at Larchwood, the daughter of Garlet and Hilda (Murley) Hocke. She grew up in Larchwood and graduated from Larchwood High School in 1943. She then worked at various jobs in the area including doing housekeeping and working at Shriver's in Sioux Falls, S.D.

On Nov. 26, 1952, she married Axel Bonander at Ben Clair, S.D. They lived in Minnesota and Iowa before moving to a farm near Larchwood in 1955. She had been a resident of Rock Rapids Health Centre for about a month.

She was active in 4-H and garden clubs.

Survivors include her husband, Axel; one son, Bruce of Larchwood; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Chuck, and two sisters, Darlene Kuhnert and Emeralda Johns.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Anna Johnson

Anna Johnson, 95, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at Lyon Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Rock Rapids.

Memorial services were Friday at United Methodist Church, Rock Rapids, with interment in Evergreen Lawn cemetery , George.

Anna Hansmann was born Nov. 6, 1906, near George, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Ulitche) Hansmann. She grew up and attended country school near George.

On Dec. 2, 1924, she married Orie Johnson. They farmed west of George. She had been a resident of Lyon Manor the past four years.

Survivors include three children, Orvin of Glenwood, Verlyn of Surprise, Ariz., and Merna of Evanton, Ill.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Leanna; two brothers, Henry and Alfred, and one sister, Elsie.

Brent Marra

Brent Marra, 20, of Hull died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D., following a battle against leukemia.

Services were Tuesday at First Reformed Church, Hull, with interment in Hope cemetery .

Survivors include his parents, one brother, one sister, three grandparents including Leona Geerdes of George, and two great-grandmothers including Louise Geerdes of George.

Robert Smith

Robert Smith, 81, of Cedar Falls died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at his home.

Memorial services were Nov. 30 at First United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls.

Mr. Smith was born July 27, 1921, in Archer, the son of Benjamin and Cleo (Shriner) Smith. He grew up in Rock Rapids and graduated from Wilson High School in 1940. He served in the marine corps during World War II.

He received a bachelor of arts degree from Morningside College in 1946 and did graduate work at Iowa State University, Ames; Buena Vista College, Storm Lake; Denison University, Greenville, Ohio, and University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. He taught social studies and coached in Albert City from 1946-51 and Ida Grove from 1951-55. He was the industrial arts instructor in the Cedar Falls School System from 1955 until his retirement in 1984.

He was a member of Black Hawk Lodge #65 A.F.&A.M.; and Military Order of the Purple Heart.

He is survived by his wife, Beth; one son, Mark of Burnsville, Minn.; one daughter, Mrs. Douglas (Pamela) Reed of Des Moines; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
