Barry Bartels
Barry "Bear" Bartels, 50, of Denver, Iowa, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, following complications of a stroke.
Services were Wednesday at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Denver, with interment in Fairview cemetery .
Mr. Bartels was born Feb. 18, 1952, in Sibley, the son of Harm and Dorothy (Harms) Bartels. He attended George Public School, graduating in 1970. He attended Mankato State University in Mankato, Minn.
He married
Mary Stevens in Waterloo. He was working as an independent agent with Midwest Insurance Co.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Todd and Darin, both of Denver; Chad of Atlantic and Travis of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren; his mother of George and one brother, Tim of Bennett, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Priscilla Kooistra
Priscilla Kooistra, 75, of Rock Valley died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at Heart Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D.
Services were Monday at First Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley.
Priscilla Boersma was born April 13, 1927, near Alvord, the daughter of Menno and Hattie (Terpstra) Boersma. The family later moved to near Doon.
On Nov. 20, 1947, she married
Gerrit Kooistra in Inwood. They lived in Rock Valley. She worked at an egg processing plant in Boyden before working at Valley Manor in Rock Valley. After retiring, she worked for the Foster Grandparent Program.
Survivors include her husband; four sons, Howard of Rock Valley, Mike of Doon, Les of Lynden, Wash., and Gawin of Willmar, Minn.; one daughter, Mrs. Bob (Linda) Smith of Harlan; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Cornie and Ervin.
Gerrit Diekevers
Gerrit Diekevers, 81, of Hospers, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at Pleasant Acres Care Center, Hull.
Memorial services were Saturday at First Reformed Church, Hospers, with interment in Hospers cemetery .
Mr. Diekevers was born Jan. 9, 1922, at Boyden, the son of Neal and Jennie (Rensink) Diekevers. He grew up in the Boyden and Hospers areas.
On Dec. 13, 1946, he married
Julie Prins at Sanborn. She died April 26, 1987.
On March 19, 1993, he married
Alice Vande Berg Kuyper at Inwood. They lived in Hospers. In January 2001, he became a resident of Pleasant Acres.
Survivors include his wife of Inwood, five children, six stepchildren, 18 grandchildren, 11 stepgrandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, six stepgreat-grandchildren and one brother.
Steven Kroeze
Steven Kroeze, 83, of Orange City died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at George Community Good Samaritan Center.
Services were Thursday at Trinity Reformed Church, Orange City, with interment in West Lawn cemetery .
Arthur Popkes
Arthur Popkes, 73, of George died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Tyler Health Care Center, Tyler, Minn.
Services were Friday at Bethel Reformed Church, rural Ellsworth, Minn., with interment in Evergreen Lawn cemetery , George.
Mr. Popkes was born July 24, 1929, at Ellsworth, the son of Popke and Anna (Huisman) Popkes. He attended country school near and high school in George.
On Aug. 3, 1950, he married
Betty Jean Jansen. They farmed near Magnolia, Minn., six years. They then lived in Sioux Falls, S.D., two years and Worthington, Minn., one year. In 1960, they moved back to the George area and farmed until retiring in 1985. In 1976, they bought property on the lake at Lake Benton, Minn., developed Benton Shores Estates and sold residential lots. After they retired, they spent most of their time at Lake Benton.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Gene of Mission, S.D.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one sister, Patricia Eeten of Pipestone, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Dale.
Laurence Siebrands
Laurence "Loren" Siebrands, 78, of George died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at George Good Samaritan Center.
Services were Saturday at Hope Reformed Church, George, with interment in the church cemetery .
Mr. Siebrands was born March 12, 1924, at George, the son of Dick and Trena (Goldhorn) Siebrands. He attended country school near George. He farmed northwest of George with his brother, Richard. He became a resident of George Good Samaritan Center in October 2001.
Survivors include three sisters, Margaret Krull of Beaver Creek, Minn., Mrs. Jack (Leota) Gerken of George and Mrs. Afred (Lavonne) Klaassen of Ellsworth, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Elvina Siebrands, and two brothers, Ben and Richard.
Connie Tysver
Connie Tysver, 57, of Storm Lake died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at her home following a 14-year battle with breast cancer.
Services were Feb. 3 at St. Mary's Church, Storm Lake, with interment in the church cemetery .
Connie Keegan was born Aug. 2, 1945, in Doon, the daughter of John and Frances (Mann) Keegan. She attended school in Doon and graduated from Central Lyon High School in Rock Rapids in 1963. She worked at Aalfs Manufacturing in Sheldon.
On Feb. 8, 1964, she married
Louis Tysver. In 1969 they moved to Storm Lake. She had worked at Sears, Fareway and Storm Lake School District.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Timothy of Douglasville, Ga., and Thomas of Overland Park, Kan.; one daughter, Tara Katschman of Des Moines; three grandsons; two brothers, Jack of Edina, Minn., and Bill of Scottsdale, Ariz., and two sisters, Mrs. Mel (Janet) Wilton of Enid, Okla., and Mrs. Dean (Mary) Rosenberg of Sioux Falls, S.D.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Patrick and Joe, and one sister, Mrs. Jim (Donna) Breuer.
