JACOB HUFFMAN

Anthon – Jacob "Jake" Huffman, 23, of Anthon died Thursday, Feb. 6, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Anthon.

Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 10, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Anthon with the Rev. William Schreiber officiating.

Jake was born Aug. 24, 1979, in Kenosha, Wis. He moved to the Anthon area at the age of 4, where he attended Woodbury Central School. Later, he went to Anthon-Oto School and then River Valley High School, where he graduated in 1998.

He married Niki Rensink, formerly of Boyden, in August 2001. He was employed with Dixon Construction in Correctionville since his graduation from high school.

He loved to fish, hunt, play pool and golf. He was an Iowa State fan and loved to be with his many friends.

Survivors include his wife, Niki; his parents, Stan and Kerry Huffman of Correctionville; a sister and her husband, Kate and Greg Schrage of Lenexa, Kan.; a brother, Steve at home; his grandparents, Bob and Florine Huffman of Anthon, and Ellen Cavanaugh of Sioux City; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Leonard Cavanaugh; and an uncle, Dan Cavanaugh.

EVELYN MARRA

Mrs. Evelyn Marra, 90, of Hull, passed away Monday, Feb. 10, at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Feb. 13, at First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Carl Klompien officiated.

Evelyn was born March 24, 1912, at Hull, the daughter of Charles and Hilda (Brouwer) Kroese. She was raised at Hull.

In 1934, she married Wilmar P. Marra. She lived in Hull and was a decorator at Quality Home Sales in Sioux Center for over 25 years.

In 1997, Mrs. Marra became a resident of Pleasant Acres.

She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, watching television, and shopping.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Thane and Bette Marra of Hull, Warren and Diane Marra of Sioux Center and Wayne and Adrianna Marra of Orange City; a daughter-in-law, Diana Marra of Pequot Lakes, Minn.; 14 grandchildren, Randy Marra, Dennis Marra, Barb Draayer, and Brenda Anderson; Kevin Marra, Kent Marra, Kalen Marra, Kris Marra, and Keith Marra; Mark Marra, Bruce Marra, Dawn Wynia, and Rhonda Robyn; and Leslie Lindblom; 32 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Ann Wielenga of Hull, and a sister-in-law, Lavonne Kroese of Hull.

She was preceded in death by a son, Eugene Marra; a great-grandson, Brent Marra; six brothers, Joe, John, Peter, Ivan, William and Charles Jr. Kroese, and four sisters, Jesse Stienstra, Gertrude Van Otterloo, Wilma Miersma and Nellie Kroese.

H. JOHN VAN LEEUWEN

Mr. John Van Leeuwen, 76, of Hospers went to be with his Lord on Sunday, Feb. 9.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 12, at First Christian Reformed Church in Hospers. The Rev. Duane Tinklenberg officiated.

John served in the United States Army at the close of World War II and was stationed in Japan. He and Evelyn were married in Sheldon on July 28, 1948, and made their home together in Hospers 54 years. He was employed by Vogel Paint and Wax Company in Orange City as a truck driver for 31 years.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; children, Pat (Gordon) Bruxvoort of Orange City, Barb (John) Van Vugt of Hospers, Mary (Ron) Jansen of Dorr, Mich., Joel (Doris) Van Leeuwen of Paullina, Emily (Darwin) Boer of Boyden and Tom (Jodi) Van Leeuwen of Hull. This kind-hearted grandfather is sadly missed by 23 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also mourning are siblings, Kay (Bill) Beltman of Hospers, Joan (Andy) Miedema of Alton, Betty (Tess) Van Schepen of Hull, Corkie Van Leeuwen of Hudsonville, Mich., and Jim (Gladys) Beltman of Sheldon.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Linda; parents, Al and Agnes; wife's parents, Peter and Mary Swets; brother, Jake, and sister, Joyce Beltman.

Memorials are being directed to Sioux County Hospice.

HERMINA VAN WYHE

Mrs, Hermina Van Wyhe, 81, of Hull passed away Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Funeral services were Thursday, Feb. 13, at Oolman Funeral Home in Hull. The Rev. Verlyn Boone officiated.

Hermina was born June 17, 1921, in Iowa, the daughter of Hans and Sadie (Burgraaf) Kiel. On June 27, 1944, she married Edward Van Wyhe in Wisconsin. He passed away Feb. 25, 1971, in Hull. In 1973, she became a resident of The Abbey in Le Mars.

Mrs. Van Wyhe was a member of the First Reformed Church in Hull. She enjoyed sewing and reading,

Survivors include her daughter, Sadie Van Wyhe of Rock Rapids; a sister, Jennie Klarenbeek of Sheldon, and two sisters-in-law, Gert Van Roekel of Boyden and Lillian Klarenbeek of Sioux Center.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Margaret Jane; a sister, Anna Klarenbeek, and two brothers, Steve and Arie Kiel.

JAMES VAN VOORST

James Van Voorst, 77, of Sioux Center, died Thursday morning, Feb. 13, 2003, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.

Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 17, at Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Pastor Jan Neels officiating.

James Van Voorst was born near Sioux Center to Jacob and Jeanette (Vande Hoef) Van Voorst on Aug. 13, 1925. He was raised on the family farm and attended country school.

On Jan. 11, 1946, he was united in marriage to Greta Vander Weide in Sioux Center. She preceded him in death on Oct. 22, 2002. Following their marriage Jim and Greta farmed near Sioux Center, Ireton and Hull. In 1972 they moved to their home in Sioux Center after Jim became disabled. Most recently Jim made his home at Crown Pointe in Sioux Center.

Jim was a member of Heritage Reformed Church of Hull. For many years he volunteered to record audio tapes for use by members of the Netherlands Reformed Church of Sioux Center and Heritage Reformed Church of Hull.

Jim is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Alvin Zomer of Sioux Center, Shirley and Adrie "Dutch" Born of Sioux Center and Lavonne and Harvey Spaans of Hull; five sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Carol Van Voorst of Sioux Center, Arlin Van Voorst and special friend, Vicky Coy of Adrian, Mo., Doug and Diane Van Voorst of Marionville, Mo., Tom and Annette Van Voorst of Maurice and Kevin and Angie Van Voorst of Newport, Minn.; two daughters-in-law, Audrey (Perry) Raman of Hull and Shirley Van Voorst of Rock Valley; 34 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Jim is also survived by his brother, Maurice Van Voorst of Rock Valley; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette and Bill Van Den Top of Rock Valley; brother-in-law, George Vonk of Sioux Center; four sisters-in-law, Alice Van Voorst of Sioux Center, Jennie Van Voorst of Rock Valley, Jeanette Van Voorst of Orange City and Esther Tromp of Pella, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Greta, Jim was preceded in death by two sons, Alvin and Timothy Van Voorst; an infant son, James Van Voorst Jr. daughter-in-law, Virginia Van Voorst; grandson-in-law, Clifford Vanden Berg; his parents; six brothers, Jacob, Sam, John, Harry, Henry and William Van Voorst; three sisters, Gertrude Hoogendoorn, Henrietta Vonk and Marie Vander Stouwe, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Tunis and Libbie Vander Weide.

Victor Sandbulte, 45

Vic Sandbulte, 45, formerly of Sioux Center, died Monday morning, March 31, at the University Good Samaritan Center in Minneapolis from Huntington's disease.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 3, at 2 p.m. at the Carmel Reformed Church of Carmel, with Rev. Mark Heijerman officiating.

Victor Wayne Sandbulte was born to Milton and Thelma (Van Berkum) Sandbulte on March 24, 1958 in Sioux Center. Vic grew up on the family farm 1-1/2 miles north of Carmel and attended Sioux Center Public School. He went on to enroll in the auto mechanics program at NITC in Sheldon.

In 1975 Vic married Shirley DeRuiter in Rock Valley. They first lived in Rock Valley for a short time before moving to Carmel. They were later divorced. Vic continued to live in Carmel.

Throughout his life Vic had various jobs. He built homes while working construction and was employed by Roorda Manufacturing in Rock Valley for a short time before he began driving truck for Paul Hooyer. Vic returned to trucking after working a short time at Supreme Packing in Sioux Center. Not long after being diagnosed with Huntington's chorea Vic had to stop driving and took a position with Tyson Foods in Sioux Center.

Vic was an avid sports fan. He followed University of Iowa Hawkeye teams religiously and enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball. Vic pitched for the Middleburg Free Grace Reformed Church team in Hull's league for a number of years. Vic attended Carmel Reformed Church throughout his life.

In his last years Vic was a resident of the Sioux Center Nursing Facility before he became a resident of University Good Samaritan Center in Minneapolis where he received the special care he needed.

Surviving is his daughter, Nikki Sandbulte of Marshalltown; three brothers, Larry Sandbulte of Pella, Kevin Sandbulte and his wife, Nohemi of Sioux Center; Keith Sandbulte of Minneapolis; two sisters, Cheryl Sandbulte of Minneapolis and Christy Zeutenhorst and her husband, Darryl of Sioux Center; and several nieces and nephews. Vic is also survived by his aunts, uncles, a host of cousins and other relatives.

Vic was preceded in death by his son, Jared Sandbulte; his parents Milt and Thelma Sandbulte; brother, Mike Sandbulte and sister, Connie Dragstra.

The Sandbulte Family requests memorial donations to University Good Samaritan Center, Minneapolis, Minn. c/o the Sandbulte Family.
