Gertrude Leusink

Gertrude Jeanette Leusink, 77, of Sioux Center died Wednesday, March 31, at the Orange City Health System.

A funeral service was held Saturday, April 3, in the sanctuary of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Interment followed in Memory Gardens cemetery of Sioux Center.

The Leusink Family requests memorials be directed to CHEARS Hospice & Home Health.

Gertrude was born June 8, 1926 to Clarence and Rena (Wissink) Den Herder on the family farm five miles west of Sioux Center. Gertrude grew up on the family farm, attending country school nearby. On January 21, 1948 she married Gerrit Henry Leusink in her parent's home. Gerrit preceded her in death on February 27, 1990.

After living in Sioux Center for two years, Gertrude and Gerrit moved on to Gertrude's family farm. In 1955, they moved their family to a farm west of Orange City. After Gerrit's death, Gertrude moved to her new home in Sioux Center in 1993.

Gertrude was a member of First Reformed Church in Sioux Center where she participated in Naomi Circle and Quilters Group. In recent years, Gertrude was a dedicated volunteer for CHEARS Home Health & Hospice and MOPS. She always enjoyed getting together with her lady friends on Friday nights and Sunday evenings. She was extremely grateful for the wonderful care she received from the Kosgrove staff in the past few weeks of her life.

Surviving are her three sons and daughters-in-law: Henry and Karen, Ron and Lisa, Glen and Julie all of Orange City; her daughter, Mary Harris of Sioux City and daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Rick Rook of Doon along with her 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Gertrude is also survived by two sisters: Genevieve Leusink of Sioux Center and Arlene Wynia of Luverne, MN; four sisters-in-law: Hattie Berghorst of Hull, Catherine Vos and her husband, Steve, Tena Leusink, and Jeanette Leusink all of Sioux Center and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Margaret J. Klaassen

Margaret J. Klaassen, age 83, of Boyden, passed away on Saturday, May 29, in the Lyon Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Rock Rapids,following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 1, at the United Presbyterian Church in Boyden, with Rev. Randal Nicholas officiating.

Margaret June Klaassen was born June 1, 1920, in rural Little Rock, Iowa to Albertus and Mary (Vogt) Kruger. She was raised in the Little Rock area and graduated 8th grade from the Little Rock School.

On September 7, 1938, she was united in marriage to William Klaassen in Little Rock, Iowa. They resided in and around the Boyden area during their 65 years of marriage.

Margaret was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Boyden. Where she was active in the UPWO; having served as various officers; taught Sunday School and served as Director of Bible School. For forty years Margaret and Bill were the custodians of the United Presbyterian Church, She was also a member of Farm Bureau women's group. Margaret and Bill were also the caretakers of the Sheridan Township cemetery close to fifty years. She was also employed by the Vander Ploeg Funeral Homes as the custodian of the Boyden Chapel.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Klaassen of Boyden; also six children, Burdell and his wife, Judith Klaassen of Sheldon; Arlys and her husband, John Smid of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Myron and his wife, Karen Kiasesen of Sanborn; Sharon and her husband, Arlen Van Der Wilt of Boyden; Mavis and her husband, Jude Gravenhof of Worthington, Minn.; Rhonda and her husband, Ed Petitt of Boyden; a daughter-in-law, Donna Klaassen of George; 23 grandchildren; 39 great- grandchildren; 1 brother, Martin (Banjo) Kruger of Ocheyedan; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Albert (Martha) Kruse of Sibley; and other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; 2 sons, Joel and Richard; 3 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Inez Broesder.

Frances Kooiker

Mrs. Frances Kooiker, age 74, of Spirit Lake, formerly of Rock Rapids, passed away Thursday, July 29, at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake, after fighting a lengthy battle with cancer.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Aug. 2, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull. The Rev. Kay Hooper officiated. Inter-ment followed at Hope cemetery in Hull.

Frances was born on Feb. 18, 1930, in Hull, the daughter of Stephen and Hattie (Pals) Faber. She was raised mostly in Hull, where she graduated from Hull High School. She then had a year of nursing training at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn. After returning to Hull, she worked in the Hull Hospital.

On Feb. 17, 1950, she married Donald Lloyd Kooiker at Hull. They farmed at George for seven years and then moved to a farm near Rock Rapids, where they lived for 30 years. She was Don's "right-hand lady" on the farm. She was also the nurse at Central Lyon School in Rock Rapids. In 1987, they retired to the Harbor on West Okoboji Lake at Spirit Lake.

Fran was a member of the United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake, the Lakes Art Center, and the Christian Women's Association. She attended all the plays at the Okoboji Summer Theatre.

She loved to laugh and always had a spirit of adventure. She especially enjoyed being with her family and also spending time with her "Grand Dogs."

Survivors include her husband of 54 years; her daughter, Gayle Feekes Van Donge, of Ireton, and her fiance', Dennis Verpleogh; her grandson, Todd Feekes, serving in the National Air Guard in Mountain Home, Idaho, and his friend, Becky; and two great-granddaughters, Natasha and Samantha.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Conrad Faber, and two sisters, Clara Wenzel and Evelyn Lymes.

Memorials may be directed to the Hope Lodge in Rochester, Minn., a lodge for cancer patients and their family members.

John Wiechers

John H. Wiechers, 89, of rural Hawarden died Saturday night, July 24, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 27, at Lebanon Christian Reformed Church of rural Sioux Center with the Rev. Arnold Punt officiating. Interment followed in Lebanon cemetery .

John H. Wiechers was born May 2, 1915, to Ralph J. and Minnie (Harmelink) Wiechers. He attended country school through the eighth grade.

He married Anna Marie Haverhals on Sept. 24, 1941, and shared 60 years of marriage with her. Anna passed away on Dec. 13, 2001.

John was a member of the Lebanon Christian Reformed Church of rural Sioux Center for 85 years. He served as a deacon on the church council. He faithfully served the Lebanon congregation by managing the sound equipment for worship services for over 30 years.

His love for farming and keeping equipment in good working order was evidenced by 70 years of faithful and dedicated work.

He appreciated his family and friends, and his influence on them will be felt for years to come.

As a loving and supportive father and grandfather, John leaves his family with wonderful memories. Left to cherish those are his daughter and son-in-law, Minerva and Roger Bomgaars of Sioux Center; two granddaughters: Angela Bomgaars of Denver, Colo., and Emily Bomgaars of Ames, and a grandson, Ryan Bomgaars of Sioux Center.

Also surviving are three sisters-in-law: Johanna Vande Kieft of Sioux Center; Marie Van Kley of Hull; and Artie (Haverhals) Bonnema and her husband, Elmer of Sioux Center.

The family requests memorials be directed to Lebanon Christian Reformed Church.

Charles K. Scholten

Charles Kaden Scholten, infant son of Marvin and Cheryl Scholten of Alton, Iowa was stillborn Tuesday, November 9, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.

A private graveside funeral service was held Thursday, November 11 at the Lebanon cemetery of rural Sioux Center with Rev. Ralph A. Pontier officiating.

Charles Kaden Scholten, son of Marvin and Cheryl (Vander Brink) Scholten of Alton is survived by his parents, two sisters: Molly and Chantel and brother, Daniel all of Alton.

Maternal grandparents are William and Eldora Van Der Brink of Sioux Center; paternal grandparents are Marvin and Alida Scholten of Maurice; maternal aunts and uncles: Donna and Keith Hulstein of Hull; Billy Van Der Brink of Sioux City; Mark and Lisa Van Der Brink of Rock Valley; Amy Van Der Brink of Sioux Center; paternal aunts and uncles: George and Becky Scholten of Sioux Center; Tom Scholten of Ireton; John Scholten of Hospers; Joel and Melinda Scholten of Sioux Center; Margret and Dave Van Donkelaar of Maurice; David Scholten of Maurice and Elizabeth Scholten of Maurice along with a host of cousins.

Charles Kaden was welcomed at the heavenly gates by his maternal great-grandparents: Edward and Fredrika Van Der Brink and Jake and Harriet Van Batavia and paternal great-grandparents: John and Anna Scholten and George and Greta Kooi.

Hubert H. Tiedeman

Funeral services for Hubert H. Tiedeman, age 85, of Sheldon, who passed away on Monday, November 22, 2004, at the Northwest Iowa Health Center Senior Care in Sheldon; were held Friday, November 26, 2004 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Hull, with the Rev. John M. Riggle officiating. Burial was in the St. Paul Lutheran cemetery in rural Hull with Military Graveside Service by the: William Monster Post 272, American Legion of Boyden.

Hubert Adolf Herman Tiedeman was the son of John and Emma (Lutjens) Tiedeman. He was born January 7, 1919, at Hull, Iowa. He was raised on the family farm north of Hull and was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

On July 8, 1941, Hubert entered the United States Army. He served in the South Pacific for three years, during World War II. He was a member of the field artillery. He saw action in East Indies, Northern Solomon, New Guinea, and Eastern Mandates. He received Decorations and Citations, the Purple Heart, Pacific Campaign, American Defense Services Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Medal for wounds received in action during the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He was discharged in 1945 and was united in marriage to Margaret Wesseis on June 26, 1946, at the First Lutheran Church in Worthington, Minnesota. Hubert and Margaret farmed for 30 years in the Hull area. On February 7, 1973, they retired from farming and moved into Sheldon. He passed away on Monday, November 22, 2004, at the Northwest Iowa Health Center Senior Care in Sheldon, reaching the age of 85 years, 10 months and 15 days.

He was a life long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Hull and a member of the William Monster Post # 272, American Legion of Boyden.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Margaret of Sheldon; two sons, Roger and his wife, Linda of Hull; Doug and his wife, Audrey of De Soto, Kansas; and a daughter, Debra and her husband, Dennis Potts of Denison, Iowa, Fifteen beautiful and special grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, Rachelle and Terry Sump & their children, Jessica and Megan; Rebecca and Matt Sharpe & their son, John; Rick and Pam Tiedeman & their son, Rilan; Stacie and Paul Thics & their sons, Ryan and Adam; Cory Tiedeman; Kirk Tiedeman; William and Jessica Potts & their daughter, Brynn; Nicholas Potts and his fiancČe, Ashley Strandburg. He is also survived by his sisters, Bertha Anderson of Rock Valley; Lori Thompson and Dorothy McCormack both of Rock Rapids; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Emma Tiedcman; brothers, Berend, Walter and Ferdinand; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.
