Everette B. Meamber, age 58, died Thursday afternoon, December 1, 2005 at St. Catherine’s Hospital, East Chicago, Indiana following a brief illness. Funeral Services: 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 6, 2005, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Monday, December 5, 2005 at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at a later date. A memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by his wife Brenda, two step-daughters, Trisha Casto (Donny) of Homestead and Eva Parker (William) of Sigourney; six step-grandchildren and a sister, Jennie Holland of San Francisco. In addition he is survived by many nieces and nephews and a faithful companion, his dog Zuber. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Joe Meamber.
Everette Barry Meamber was born icon February 22, 1947 in Eureka, CA, the son of Everette and Iris Rhines Meamber. He graduated from Eureka High School and attended business college for two years. He married Brenda Hoover on March 2, 1984 in Liberty, Texas. The couple have lived in the Amana area for eight years, where Everett operated Zuber’s Restaurant in Homestead for a number of years. Most recently he was employed for Mastertech Services of Golden, CO installing cooling towers for major refineries. He was loved and will be missed by many.

William P. Mangold, age 67, of Marengo, died Monday, October 31, 2005 at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 3:00 P.M. Saturday, November 5, 2005, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo with Rev. Douglas Morton officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Friday, November 4, 2005 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; a son, Tim and wife Tracy of Marengo; two grandsons, T.J. and Tyler Mangold of Marengo; his mother, Velma Mangold of Cazenovia, N.Y.; and two sisters, Susan Olson Vernon of Dickens, IA. and Jean Kent and husband Bob of Cazenovia. He was preceded in death by his father in 1974 and a son Paul in 1968.
William Paul Mangold was born icon February 5, 1938 in Cherokee, Iowa, the son of Wilbur and Velma Mueller Mangold. He received his education in the Alta, Iowa schools. William moved to Marengo in 1960. He married Evelyn Simpson on October 2, 1965 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo. William was employed as a mechanic for S and S Implement and Huedepohl Implement and for various Iowa City businesses. He drove ambulance and livery service for Carl Seckel, and operated a small engine repair service. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo. He enjoyed his family and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Violet J. Slaymaker, age 91, died Thursday evening, October 20, 2005 at her home following a sudden illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, October 26, 2005, First United Methodist Church, Marengo with Rev. Morris Hurd and Rev. Alan Wiese officiating. Burial will be in the Koszta Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.
Survivors include four sons, Sam (Carole), Lee (Suni), Don (Shirley) and Steve (Jan), all of Marengo; two daughters, Alice Rohrer (Richard) of Hartwig, and Linda Kanke (Wayne) of Marengo; 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and a sister Norma Kern of Mesa, AZ. Also surviving are a daughter-in-law Gerry Formanek of Marengo and 2 sisters-in-law, Lucille McVey of Marion, and Daisy Slaymaker of Belle Plaine. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray in 1977, a son Clement, 3 brothers, Leslie, Richard and one in infancy.
Violet Zigler was born icon August 2, 1914 in Iowa County, Iowa the daughter of Roy and Anna Margaret Myers Zigler. She received her education in the Iowa County Schools and married Ray C. Slaymaker on April 25, 1932 in Marengo, Iowa. The couple farmed in the area for many years. He died January 16, 1977. Besides a homemaker, Violet was employed at various businesses throughout her life, including Watts Nursing Home, the Marengo Hospital, the South Amana Bakery, Krysan Bakery and the Me Too Store.
Violet was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women. She was a lifetime member of the Marengo American Legion Auxiliary, serving at President for 6 years, and served as president of the Legion Auxiliary county chapter for 5 years. She supported multiple veteran programs, and was a member of R.S.V.P. Violet received the Governor’s Volunteer Award and the Iowa County Outstanding Senior Citizen Award.

Ruth I. Gorsch, age 86, died Thursday, September 22, 2005 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Monday, September 26, 2005 Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Pastor Bonnie Koeppen officiating. Burial will be in the Koszta Cemetery, rural Marengo. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday, September 25, 2005 at the funeral home. Memorials may be contributed to the Marengo Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, Lyle, and a daughter Rena Gorsch of Marengo; a brother, Jerry Zavodsky II and wife Gladys of Marengo; and a sister-in-law, Lula Gorsch of Victor. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Gladys, and a brother, Raymond “Mike” Zavodsky.
Ruth Irene Zavodsky was born icon January 18, 1919 in Iowa County, Iowa, the daughter of Jerald Sr. and Frances G. Dvorak Zavodsky. She received her education in the Iowa County schools, and married Lyle Henry Gorsch on April 6, 1951 at the First Presbyterian Church in Marengo. The couple farmed for many years in Iowa County. She was a member of the Happy Homemakers Club and enjoyed gardening, flowers, needlework and baking.
The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to the Amenity Hospice for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Ruth.

Catherine I. Shepherd, age 67, of Marengo, died Thursday, September 8, 2005 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital from cancer. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Monday, September 12, 2005 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo with Rev. Douglas Morton officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Sunday, September 11, 2005 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by two sons, Kevin of Iowa City and special friend, Pam McDowell, and Kirk of Marengo and significant other, Paula Schropp; and 2 grandsons, Paul Alan Shepherd of Marengo and Jacob Cox of Lawrence, KS. Also surviving are two sisters, Irene Meyer and husband Donald of Moscow, and Marion Rathjen and husband Charles of Marengo. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Paul on April 17, 2000.
Catherine Ida Iserhott was born icon September 10, 1937 in Wilton, Iowa the daughter of Raymond and Lily Reinking Iserhott. She attended the Zion Lutheran Elementary School and graduated from Wilton High School in 1955. She married Paul M. Shepherd on August 8, 1958 at Zion Lutheran Church in Wilton. Cathy was employed at a bank in Muscatine for 2 years and then was employed by the Marengo Bank for 47 years and at the time of her death was assistant Vice President.
Cathy was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo, the Marengo American Legion Auxiliary, and the Marengo Chamber of Commerce. She was president of the Marengo Housing Corporation and the Blain Fund; treasurer of the Marengo Rotary Club, director of the Marengo Hospital Foundation, and assistant financial consultant to Thrivent Financial.

Alice W. Eichacker, age 95 of Amana, formerly of Homestead, died Monday morning, September 5, 2005 at Colonial Manor Care Center, following an extended illness. Funeral services: 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at the Middle Amana Community Church with Elder Emilie Hoppe officiating. Burial will be in the Amana Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at the Middle Amana Community Church. Memorials may be donated to the charity of the donor’s choice. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by a son R.C. Eichacker of Middle Amana; two daughters, Dorothy Riepe of Vinton and Rosalie Henry (Dale) of Amana; and 9 grandchildren, Becky Williams (John), Tim Scheurs (Jan), Pam Brandt (Tom), Nina Scott (Gary), Eric Eichacker (Julie), Sara Paul (Terry), Susan Martens (Doug), Robert Henry (Pam), and Patrick Henry (Debra). Also surviving are 28 great-grandchildren, 5 step-great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother, Louise Leonhardt Haldy; her husband Charles on June 25, 1984, two sisters, Nora Ackerman and Helen Kippenhan, a half-brother, Leonard Haldy, and a son-in-law, Robert Riepe.
Alice W. Haldy was born icon May 6, 1910 in Middle Amana, the daughter of Henry and Louise Mehlhorn Haldy. She received her education in the Amana schools and married Charles Eichacker on December 17, 1931 in Homestead. Alice was a postal clerk at the Homestead Post Office for over 30 years. She was a member of the Amana Church Society and the Homestead Welfare Club. She, along with her husband operated a hobby ceramics business for many years.

Mervin E. Ringler, age 83 of Williamsburg, formerly of Marengo, died Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness. Graveside Services: 2:30 P.M. Saturday, August 27, 2005, Koszta Cemetery, rural Marengo with Rev. Morris Hurd officiating. Friends may call from 1:30 until service time, Saturday, August 27, 2005 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.
He is survived by his sister, Margaret Peshek of Norway, two nephews, Gary Peshek of California, and Richard Peshek of Mount Vernon, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mervin Edward Ringler was born icon June 7, 1922 in Marengo, Iowa the son of Edward and Antonia Dusil Ringler. He received his education in the Marengo schools. Mervin was employed as a technician at Pioneer Seed Company for 30 years, retiring in 1990. He enjoyed bowling. In earlier years he was a member of IOOF.

Kevin Dale Smith, age 40 of Marengo, died Saturday, August 13, 2005 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, IA of complications from an auto accident. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at First United Methodist Church, Marengo with Chaplain David Bracht-Wagner officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. with full military honors conducted by the Iowa Army National Guard. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed in Kevin’s name to Make A Wish Foundation of Iowa, 3838 70 th St. Suite 101, Urbandale, IA 50322
He is survived by his father, Kenneth C. Smith of Marengo; his mother and step-father, Carol and Richard Frazier of Marshfield, MO; two children, Crystal Lynn Smith and Samuel D. Adams; and brothers and sisters, Debbie Watkins (Clyde), Eddie Morris, and Barry Morris all of Cedar Rapids, Donna Mahoney (Daniel) of Elkland, MO, Kim Morris of Marengo, LuAnn Oatly of Bonner Springs, KS, David Smith of New Sharon, Kenneth Smith of Miami, FL, Roger Smith (Linda) of Mount Vernon and Mark Smith of Watkins, CO.
Kevin Dale Smith was born icon June 5, 1965 in Cedar Rapids, IA. He received his education in the Cedar Rapids schools and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1983. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1986 and served until March of 1990. He was a line worker at Lear Corp. for 15 years. He was an active member of the Iowa National Guard, serving with Bravo Company 334 th FSB. Kevin was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

James F. Heinze, age 76 of Middle Amana, died Friday evening, July 22, 2005 at his home following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at Middle Amana Community Church in Middle Amana, with Elder Ivan Reihmann officiating. Burial will be in the Middle Amana Cemetery with military honors. Friends may call from 3 to 7 P.M. Monday, July 25, 2005 at the church. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Millie; two daughters, Carol Heinze-Ralston (Scott) of Urbandale, and Lisa Heinze of Des Moines; and three grandchildren, Lindsey, Caleb, Seth and Ralston. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Adolph, Carl, Ted and two in infancy, and two sisters, Viola Ratzel and Elise Baust.
James Fred Heinze was born icon September 6, 1928 in Middle Amana, the son of Henry and Marie Leichsenring Heinze. He graduated from Amana High School in 1947. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. James married Mildred Ann Vosdingh on September 3, 1955 at St. James United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. He was a tool and die maker for Amana Refrigeration for many years. In his retirement years he was a groundskeeper at the Amana Golf Course and worked part-time at the ARA cafeteria.
James was a member of the Amana Church, the American Legion Post #5, the Legion Committee for Hanford Post #5 Baseball, and a trustee of Calvary Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed baseball, spending time with his grandchildren, mowing the lawn, and taking his wife on dates.
