Mabel Helen (Hoffmann) Kremer, 95, died Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at her home near Prairieburg. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 28, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairieburg, by Father Wayne Droessler. The family will greet friends from 4 – 8 p.m., Friday, August 27, 2010, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. Burial: Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Castle Grove, Iowa.
Survivors include 9 children, Betty Williams of Arlington, Texas, Richard N. Kremer of Clovis, California, JoAnn (Don) Stadtmiller of Longmont, Colorado, Dorothy (Merle) Johnson of Bayview, Idaho, John J. (Rose) Kremer of Oswego, Illinois, Allen (Charlotte) Kremer of Pearland, Texas, Thomas Kremer (Penny Schild) of Gillette, Wyoming, Cletus Kremer of Coggon, Iowa, Mary Kremer of Las Vegas, Nevada; sisters Bernice (Melvin) Mai of Dubuque, Iowa, Norma Fortmann of Worthington, Iowa; brother Monroe (Ardella) Hoffmann of Worthington, Iowa; and one brother-in-law, George (Rose) Mullis of Central City, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1987; her parents; sisters, Martha Kremer and Hazel Mullis; brother, Donald Hoffmann; and son-in-law James K. Williams.
Mabel was born icon April 28, 1915, the daughter of Nicholas and Mary Leona (Meyer) Hoffmann, on the farm northeast of Dyersville, Iowa, in Hickory Valley. She began her elementary school education at St. Francis one room country school at Hickory Valley in Dubuque County, located 5 miles Northeast of Dyersville, where she completed 1st – 6th grades. She then went to town and stayed with her grandfather and completed 7th grade at St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville. Mabel was one of Catholic faith and made her solemn communion and confirmation at St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville. On January 10, 1940, Mabel was married to John G. Kremer at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa, by Rev. Father John Herbers. To this union, nine children were born. Together they farmed the family farm near Worthington from 1940-1943. In the spring of 1943, they moved by horse and wagon to a farm west of the red bridge, Central City, Iowa. They farmed with 2 teams of horses: Beauty, Nellie, Mabel and Dick. In 1950, they purchased the farm near Prairieburg. Mabel was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Prairieburg. She served as past President of the Altar and Rosary Society, taught religion at St. Joseph’s, Prairieburg and Immaculate Conception Church at Castle Grove. She was one of the original members of the Hills Mill Homemakers Club. Mabel was an excellent gardener with a “green thumb” to envy. She loved her vegetable garden and flower gardens, sharing many vegetables, plants and bulbs with her friends. In the winter, she enjoyed making quilts for her children and donated many of them to Camp Courageous of Iowa. She was an avid card player at the Senior Center in Central City and Coggon. Winning 2 quarters was a “big deal.” Mabel loved to travel and visit her children and grandchildren, always sharing her adventures with her friends.

Heather Rene Stanger
Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Heather R. Stanger, 29, a resident of Boonville and formerly of Davenport and Moline will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, IL.
Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, where you are invited to join the family for a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
Heather died on Monday, June 28, 2004 in Columbia, MO. the result of an automobile accident.
Heather Rene Trout was born icon December 23, 1974 in Moline, Illinois a daughter of James E. and Judy A. (Giovenazzo) Trout. She was united in marriage to Derek Allen Stanger on February 24, 2001 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport.
She graduated from Moline High School. The Isle of Capri Casino employed Heather for several years. She had been a Cage Cashier in Bettendorf and most recently in Boonville, Missouri.
She loved being a mother, and was especially proud of her children. She also loved her family and cherished the time she spent with all of her family.
Memorials can be made to an Educational Fund for her children.
Survivors include her husband, Derek, Boonville, MO; and her children, Andrew and Hailie; her parents, James and Judy Trout, Moline, IL; a brother, Tony Trout and Faith Medford; and a nephew, Brenden; her grandmother, Beverly Giovenazzo, East Moline, IL; and grandfather, Clyde Trout, East Moline, IL. her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dennis and Diane Stanger, Davenport; two sisters-in-law, Danelle and Darcy Stanger; grandmother by marriage, Shirley Behrens, East Moline; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Her grandfather, James Giovenazzo and Uncle Tom; and Grandma Trout preceded her in death. May they rest in peace.

Edward G. Gray
Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Edward G. Gray, 84, a resident of Davenport will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be today (Friday) from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. There will be a prayer service offered at the funeral home at 5:00 p.m. that you are invited to attend.
Mr. Gray passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 in Minneapolis, MN.
He was born icon January 20, 1920 in Albia, Iowa a son of John and Josephine “Josie” (Sexton) Gray. He was united in marriage to Mary Jeanne Winnike in 1947 in Davenport.
Ed graduated from the former Davenport High School in 1938. He then began employment with International Harvester Works, Rock Island.
He served our country in World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He participated in the Aleutian Islands, Marshall Island Campaign, Philippines Island Campaign, Okinawa and Korea. He was discharged from the service as a Regimental Sergeant Major with the 17th Infantry, 7th Division in December of 1945.
In 1945 he began a career with Syndicate Hub Clothing Company. He served as Vice-President and part owner of the downtown Davenport location until his retirement in 1985 after 35 years of service.
Mr. Gray was very Civic Minded and had been an active volunteer in community fundraising and church campaigns. He was involved in various Davenport business community organizations including, serving as a past president and current member of Kiwanis Club; past president of the Downtown Davenport Association; past board member and member of the Diplomat’s of the former Davenport Chamber of Commerce; Elks Lodge BPOE 298; past officer and of the Knights of Columbus, 532, and Loras General Assembly 4th degree; as well as a member of the American Legion Post 26.
Memorials can be made to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Assumption High School or to the American Lung Association.
Survivors include his beloved wife of over 56 years, Mary Jeanne, daughters and a son-in-law, Nancy and Jack Scott, Bloomington, MN; and Chris Gray, St. Louis Park, MN; and a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sandy Gray, Trumbull, CT; grandchildren, Kirstin Scott, Ann Harbor, MI; and Jay (Elizabeth) Scott, Minneapolis, MN.
In addition to his parents John and Josie Gray, sisters, Ann, Mil and Bea and a brother, Jack also preceded him in death. May they rest in peace.

Jack Martin Corbett
Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for Jack M. Corbett, 79, of Bettendorf, IA, will be 10:00am Wednesday, at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, IL with military graveside rites conducted. Visitation will be 4-8pm Tuesday at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a prayer service offered at 7:30pm.
Mr. Corbett died Friday, July 2, 2004 at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport after a long battle with lung cancer.
Jack Martin Corbett was born icon January 27, 1925 in Dubuque, IA the son of John Glenn and Margaret (Oakley) Corbett. He married Rose E. Corcoran in his hometown of Dubuque in 1946.
He retired from Johnson Sheet Metal Works Inc. in 1973 and enjoyed crafts and woodworking, golf and bridge (a lot)!
He was an Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII, serving in the Pacific and was a member of the Bettendorf VFW Post #9128.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Birthright.
Survivors include his wife Rose, daughters Jane Cox, Walcott, IA, Joan Wrister, Buffalo, IA, Jean Kolvoord, Fort Wayne, IN, and Julia Gonzalez, Austin, TX; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and sisters Rita Huttig and Alice Harris, both of Bettendorf.

Richard Carl McDonnell
Funeral services to Celebrate the Life of Richard C. McDonnell, 83, a resident of Davenport will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in the All Faith Chapel at the Halligan – McCabe – DeVries Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
Dick died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 3, 2004 at the V. A. Medical Center, Iowa City, Iowa.
Richard Carl McDonnell was born icon June 22, 1921 in Davenport a son of Harold B. and Mary J. (Ballarine) McDonnell. He was united in marriage to Kathleen “Joyce” Claerbout on March 24, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa. She preceded him in death on December 7, 1996.
He served our country as a member of the U.S. Army during World War II.
Dick has been self-employed for many years as an Investment Property Manager for McDonnell Properties. In earlier years he had Park Commissioner for the Davenport Parks and Recreation Department from 1968 until 1974.
He enjoyed time with his family and friends discussing current events over coffee. He also enjoyed golfing and bowling.
Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity of your choice.
Survivors include sisters, Mary Cox, Davenport; and JoAnne Meyer, Chicago, IL; and a brother and sister-in-law, Harold “Sonny” and Elsie McDonnell, Davenport; numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.

Ronald Louis McNamara
Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Ronald L. McNamara, 68, a resident of Davenport will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home.
Ron died on Sunday, July 4, 2004 at his residence in Davenport surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with cancer.
Ronald Louis McNamara was born icon June 3, 1936 in Anamosa, Iowa a son of Louis E. and Lillian M. (Walker) McNamara. He was united in marriage to JoAnn Sievertsen on September 15, 1956 in Davenport.
He retired in 1988 after 32 years of service for ALCOA. He had been a shift supervisor in the Ingot Plant.
Ron was a member of the church; the Knights of Columbus 532, 3rd Degree; Elks Lodge; and Pinnacle Country Club.
He was an avid sports fan; he enjoyed golfing, and had three hole-in-ones during his career. He especially loved his family and was very proud of his grandchildren.
Memorials can be made to Genesis Hospice – VNA.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Robert Davis, Tucson, AZ; and sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Sharon McNamara, Thomas J. and Patti McNamara, and Douglas and Heather McNamara, all of Davenport; grandchildren, Amanda, Katie, T.J., Lindsay, Kristi, Kelli, Andrew, Cormic, Cayden; his mother, Lillian McNamara, and a sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Jerry Corbin, all of Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his father, Louis and a brother in infancy, Francis Eugene. May they rest in peace.

Suzanne M. Labath
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Suzanne M. Labath, 74, a resident of Long Grove will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Long Grove. Following Suzanne’s request, her body has been deeded for medical research to St. Louis University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO, where she and her husband John had resided in prior years. The family will greet friends on Tuesday from Noon until the time of services at St. Ann’s.
Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport is assisting the family with arrangements.
Suzanne M. Petersen was born icon April 16, 1930 in Davenport, a daughter of William and Celesta (Westendorf) Petersen. She and her siblings were raised in Buffalo, Iowa. Suzanne was united in marriage to John H. Labath, Sr. on June 25, 1949.
Mrs. Labath was a member of the church, St. Ann’s Women’s Guild, Epilepsy Foundation and the Buffalo Iowa Historical Society. She enjoyed listening to music and had a beautiful voice when singing. She and John had been members of St. Louis Jazz Club; Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Society; and CatFish Jazz Club.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the St. Ann’s Women’s Guild or the St. Ann’s Music Guild.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, John H. Labath, Sr., Long Grove; daughters and a son-in-law, Josie Labath and friend, Dan Thompson, Moline, IL; and Suzy and Tom Gaskin, St. Louis, MO; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Cathy Labath, Jr., Long Grove; Marty and Barb Labath, Parkview, IA; Peter and Margaret Labath, Harvester, MO; Bert and Gail Labath, Beaumont, TX; Bill and Shannon Labath, Yale, IA; and Tony and Judy Labath, Gurley, AL. 26 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, and a brother, Harold Petersen, Kansas City, MO.
Her parents, a brother, William Petersen, and sisters, Mary Jo Stolemeier and Esther Bailey preceded her in death. May they rest in peace.

Petra Rose Lopez
Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for Petra R. Lopez, 75, will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be today (Thursday) from 4 to 7 at the Halligan McCabe De Vries Funeral Home, Davenport. The family invites you to join them in a rosary at 7:00 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Petra died Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at Genesis West Medical Center, Davenport.
Petra Rose Ortiz was born icon January 18, 1929, in Bettendorf, to Andrew and Simona (Ramirez) Ortiz. She married Miguel Lopez, June 20, 1979, in Muscatine. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Survivors include her husband, Miguel Lopez, Davenport; her loving daughters and sons in law, Diana and Mike Guy, Santa Ana, Ca., Trish and Kyle Howard, Jann and Brad Zoeckler, Brenda and Bill Miller, all of Davenport, and Susan and John Herman, Chicago; grandchildren, Tara, Christian, Sunny, Joshua, Zeke, Tyler, Matthew, Tia, and Brett; great-grandchildren, Kyrstin, Brendan, Taylor, Hannah, Dylan, Ethan and Aidan; brothers, Richard Ortiz, Rock Falls, Ill. and Peter Ortiz, Rock Island.
Her parents, a sister, Anita Rodriguez and brothers, Maurice, William, Arthur, Joseph, and Manuel Ortiz preceded her in death.
Petra loved life and her family. She loved to cook, sew, knit, and brag about her five girls. She was a caring and giving mother. Mom, you will be deeply missed by all that loved and cherished you. Rest well, our guardian angel.
