James B. Rudolph
Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for James B. Rudolph, 82, Davenport will be 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal with graveside military rites conducted by American Legion Post # 26, Davenport. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport where Prayer Service will be offered at 6:30p.m.
James died Saturday, July 10, 2004 at Genesis West Medical Center, Davenport after a lengthily illness.
James Berton Rudolph was born icon February 27, 1922 in Davenport, the son of Max and Rose (Bertoncello) Rudolph. He graduated from Davenport High School, then entered Officers training for the Air Force at St. Ambrose College and graduated from Luke Field, Arizona. He served in the Air Force during World War II. He was a member of the Air Force Association and Military Officers of America Association.
He married Dorothy E. Rogiers May 8, 1965 in Moline, Illinois. He retired in 1984 from the Rock Island Arsenal as a Contract Analyst. James was a member of St. Mary’s Church and the Holy Name Society. Before entering the service James was a woodworker for his family business, Max Rudolph and Sons Contractors.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s or the charity of your choice.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy; children James West, Colorado Springs, CO,
Jo Anne Connors, Lake Forest, IL, Ann Johnson, Olathe, KS, Jan Leinbach, Kansas City, MO, 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
His parents and a brother Alvin Rudolph preceded him in death.

Jack D. Smiley
Funeral Services for Jack D. Smiley, 64, Davenport will be 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at the All Faith Chapel, Halligan McCabe De Vries Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Funeral Home where a Prayer Service will be offered at 7 p.m.
Jack died Sunday, July 11, 2004 at Genesis West Medical Center. He was born icon October 5, 1939 in Rock Island to Charles and Marjorie (Willhite) Smiley. He married Silia Fulli, April 18, 1964.
Jack was Vice-President of SAS Associates, Inc. of Davenport. He was previously employed as Regional Manager of UNIVET Inc. and Territory Manager for International Food Corp.
Jack was a Life Member of the St. Patrick’s Society. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. He was a competitive Pistol Shooter having received numerous trophies in compitution. Jack was an avid sportsman and automotive sportsman .He enjoyed pheasant hunting and fishing, and was an avid Chicago Bears fan.
Memorials may be made to St. Patrick’s Society, American Diabetes Association or Iowa Donor Network at the University of Iowa.
Survivors include his wife Silia Smiley and a son John Smiley, both of Davenport; brothers, Barry Smiley (Beth), Bettendorf, Robert Smiley (Erna), Lancaster, Wisconsin and Terry Smiley (Cindy), Woodstock, Il; sisters, Dawn Sullenburger, Des Moines, Toni Cederroth, Davenport and Beverly Lemburg, (Ric), Forsythe, Mo. and a brother in law, Glen Cohenour, Hiawatha, Ia. and many nieces and nephews.
His parents and a sister Mona Cohenour preceded him in death.

Thelma M. Schott
Private Memorial Graveside Services for Thelma Marie Schott, age 84, of Muscatine will be Saturday at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. There is no visitation. Cremation rites have been accorded.
The Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Thelma died Wednesday July 14, 2004 at the Lutheran Homes, Muscatine. She was born icon on June 27, 1920 in Riverside, Ia the daughter of Alex C. and Anna M. (Stengel) Schott.
She worked as a registered nurse for San Diego County, CA. for 38 years, retiring in 1985.
She especially enjoyed writing articles for the Riverside, Iowa newspaper.
Survivors include sons Robert J. (Nancy) Swift, Milan, IL and Paul F. Swift, Westchester, IA; four grandchildren, brothers Raymond Schott, Davenport; Melvin Schott, Moline, IL and Leo Schott, Brooklyn, Ia.
She was preceded in death by a son Raymond Swift in 1994, a grandson Shaun Swift 1985 and brothers Francis Schott and Chuck Schott. May they rest in peace.

Helen M. Kitsis
Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for Helen M. Kitsis, 74, a resident of Davenport will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday July 17, 2004, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be at the church Saturday one hour prior to services. Halligan – McCabe – DeVries Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Kitsis died Wednesday July 14, 2004 at her home in Davenport after an extended illness.
Helen M. Lawler was born icon April 28, 1930 in Parnell, Iowa, the daughter of Matthew and Mary Ione (Gross) Lawler. She was united in marriage to Benjamin Kitsis on October 27, 1962 in Harlan, Iowa.
She was a member of the church.
Prior to her marriage she had been employed by the Internal Revenue Service, Rock Island, IL.
Helen cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing the piano and had a strong interest in music and singing.
Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association, American Lung Association or to Our Lady of Victory Church..
Survivors include her husband, Ben, Davenport, daughters and sons-in-law, Katie and William Moon, Bettendorf; and Karie and Dr. Troy Schmick, Des Plaines, IL. and a son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Jennifer Kitsis, Davenport. Grandchildren, Billy, Ben and Sarah Moon, and Adam Kitsis. Sisters-in-law, Ruth Lawler, Jacksonville, FL. and Eva Blinder, Niles, IL. Additionally she is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother.

David C. Schlichting
Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for David C. Schlichting, 62, a resident of Batavia, IL and a former lifetime resident of Davenport will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Davenport. Private family burial will be Tuesday at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation will be today (Sunday) from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. The family invites you to join them for a prayer service and a time to share special memories at the funeral home on Sunday at 6:00 p.m.
David died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 15, 2004 in Omaha, Nebraska after suffering a massive cardiac arrest.
David Charles Schlichting was born icon September 28, 1941 in Davenport a son of Charles William and Lucille Rose (Springer) Schlichting. He had a special friend and wife in Christine Froeschle, whom he had three beautiful daughters. He then had a special friend and wife in Gartha Heuer.
David graduated from Assumption High School, Davenport. He then entered the U.S. Navy and upon his Honorable Discharge he resumed his education attending Palmer Junior College; and graduated from the former St. Ambrose College with a degree in Mass Communications.
He retired in the year 2000 from Iowa American Water Company, where he had been employed for thirty-four years.
David spent his life in search of adventure and never backed down from life’s challenges. He tried everything and traveled everywhere he could. His traveling became more extensive after his retirement and he was looking forward to continuing his search of adventure in his new RV. He had earned his pilot’s license and received his Master Diver Certification. He had also enjoyed metal detecting.
He touched the lives of his many nieces and nephews, coaching and mentoring them as if they were his own. He was an avid fan and supporter of them throughout their athletic careers.
“David knew no stranger, only friends. We all love and will miss him always.”
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to a Education Fund for his Grandchildren, or to the American Heart Association.
Survivors include his daughters and a son-law, Michelle “Shelly” O’Brien, Kennesaw, Georgia; Lisa and Mitch Schulz, Batavia, IL; and Stacy Feraco, Marietta, Georgia. Grandchildren, Eric, Sam, Lakyn, Ashley, Zachary, Abby, Mitchel and Maddie. A great granddaughter, Melissa, and brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Carol Schlichting, Davenport; Chuck and Rhonda Schlichting, Orion, IL; Bob and Cathy Schlichting, Tom and Geri Schlichting, all of Davenport and Don and Donna Jo Schlichting, Omaha, NE. Sisters and a brother-in-law, Rose Simmons and Nancy and Fred Busch, all of Davenport and Alice Schlichting, San Diego, CA. and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
His parents preceded him in death. May they rest in peace.

James C. Hammill
Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for James C. Hammill, 53, a resident of Camas, Washington and a former resident of Davenport will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Fern Prairie Cemetery, Camas, Washington. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home where a Prayer Service will be offered at 6:00 p.m.
Mr. Hammill died unexpectedly on Friday, July 16, 2004 in Davenport. He and his wife, Pat we’re in town for Jim’s 35th High School Reunion. He graduated from Assumption High School, Class of 1969.
James Charles Hammill was born icon January 10, 1951 in Davenport a son of Phillip Thomas and Marie (Matthews) Hammill, Sr. He was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Brown on June 10, 1972 in Davenport. He and Pat had shared 32 years of pure love.
Jim was a Quality Inspector for Crown Cork and Seal Co, Portland, Oregon retiring after twenty years of service. He had also worked in previous years at PortCo, Vancouver, WA. and in earlier years in Davenport for Ralston Purina.
He had been a 4-H Live Stock Leader; coached Little League Baseball and was a volunteer fireman for District # 9, Camas, WA.
He was an avid sports fan, and had been involved in local baseball, wrestling, football and track while growing up in Davenport.
Memorials can be made to a Educational Fund for his Granddaughter, Maggie Hope.
Survivors include his wife, Pat; Camas, WA; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Hope and Jeff Shermer, Camas, WA; and a son and his girlfriend, Joseph James Hammill and Molly Hawkins, Seattle, WA; his granddaughter, Maggie Hope Shermer; his mother, Marie Allen, Davenport; a brother, Phillip T. Hammill, Jr. and a sister, Janet Sabel, Davenport, and a cousin, Virginia Lebkisher, Vancouver, WA. He was preceded in death by his father, and a brother, Tom Brooks.

Mildred I. Nelson
Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for Mildred I. Nelson, 95, Davenport, formerly of LeClaire, will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday July 21, 2004 at Our Lady of the River Catholic Church, LeClaire, IA. Burial will take place privately in Holy Family Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the church.
Mrs. Nelson passed away July 17, 2004 after a brief illness at the Fejevary Health Care Center, Davenport.
Mildred Irene Glaspell was born icon May 24, 1909, in Davenport, the daughter of Elmer and Henrietta (Hoffman) Glaspell. She married Frank Schebler in 1930. He preceded her in death in 1936. Mildred married Harry Nelson in 1946. He preceded her in death in 1974.
Mrs. Nelson was employed by Independent Baking Co., Davenport.
She was a member of Our Lady of the River Catholic Church, LeClaire and its Altar and Rosary Societies and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a volunteer with CASI meal site in LeClaire for over 20 years and was awarded the Governor’s Award for volunteer work.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Our Lady of the River Church or CASI.
Mildred is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Richard Nichols, Winterset, IA, Mary Lou Stubbs, Davenport, Frances and Jack Chadwick, Summerdale, AL; 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grand children and 20 great-great-grand children.
Her parents, husbands, and one sister preceded her in death.

Leonor Juarez Ramirez
Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Leonor Juarez Ramirez a resident of Davenport will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. There will be a prayer service offered on Sunday at the funeral home at 5:00 p.m. that you are invited to attend.
Mrs. Juarez Ramirez died peacefully surrounded by family members on Friday, July 23, 2004 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Steven J. Smith of Moline, IL.
Leonor Olvera was born icon September 14, 1921 in Gregory, TX. a daughter of Augstin and Donaciana (De La Rosa) Olvera. She was united in marriage to Manuel J. Juarez in 1944 in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. He preceded her in death on June 21, 1974. She then married Roberto Ramirez in 1982 in Davenport. He preceded her in death on December 26, 1986.
Leonor was very proud of her family, and she adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed the outdoors and nature. She had a special knack for raising roses and gardening.
Memorials can be made to St. Mary’s Church or to the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Poor. (Hermanas del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus y de los Pobres)
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Steven J. Smith, Moline, IL; and sons and daughters-in-law, Manuel and Luana Juarez, Jr., Orfordville, WI; Joseph Juarez, Seattle, WA; Robert and Carmen Juarez, Moline; Rev. Rudolph Juarez, Pastor of Patrick’s Catholic Church, Iowa City, IA; and Richard and Sherry Juarez, Davenport. Grandchildren, Brian, Sara, Gilbert, Manuel, Lisa, Stephanie, Chad, Gregory, Jacob, Donaven, and Elyse and great grandchildren, Andy, Joshua and Isabelle, a sister, Lucy Juarez, and a brother, Augustine Olvera, both of Davenport.
Her parents, brothers, Miguel and Alfredo, and a sister, Josefina, also preceded her in death. May they rest in peace.
