Jeanne D. Bloom
Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for Jeanne Bloom, 85, Davenport, will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2004 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Grand Mound, Iowa. Visitation will be 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday,
at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. A prayer service will be offered at 2:00p.m.
Mrs. Bloom died Friday July 23, 2004 at the Kahl Home for the Aged.
Jeanne Dorothy Kaeferstein was born icon October 3, 1918 in DeWitt, Iowa the daughter of G.W. and Bernadine (Brass) Kaeferstein. She married Walter Green April 16, 1940. He preceded her in death June 6, 1983. She then married J. Robert Bloom March 12, 1988, at St. Paul the Apostle Church.
Jeanne worked as a Medical Assistant with Dr. James Bishop for 38 years, retiring in 1988.
She was an active member of Holy Family Church and a member of the Altar and Rosary Societies at both Holy Family and St. Paul’s. She organized the Scott County Chapter of the American Association of Medical Assistants, having held all offices at the State level as well as Trustee, Vice President and President on the National level which included some 17, 000 members. Jeanne was also a Foster Parent for 23 children.
Memorials may be made to Holy Family and St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Churches.
Survivors include her husband, J. Robert Bloom, Davenport, stepsons, John W. Bloom, and J. Robert Bloom. Jr., both of New York, NY, 2 grandchildren, 2 great-granddaughters, two sisters, Sister Mary Vincentia, B.V.M., Mt. Carmel, Dubuque, IA, Margaret Staats, Peoria, IL, and a special niece, Nancy (Robert) Winter, Stockton, IA. and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Her parents, first husband, 1 sister and 3 brothers preceded her in death.

Sister Josephine Abel
Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Sr. Josephine Abel, CHM, 88, a resident of Bishop Drumm Care Center, Johnston, Iowa will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at the Humility of Mary Center Chapel, 820 W. Central Central Park Ave., Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at the Humility of Mary Center, with a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Sister Josephine died on Friday, July 23, 2004 at Bishop Drumm Care Center, Johnston, Iowa.
Dorothy Anna Abel was born icon May 31, 1916 in Moore, MT. the daughter of William J. and Molly (Burgmeier) Abel.
Sr. Abel entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary, June 8, 1934 and made her final profession on August 15, 1940. Her life’s ministry as a educator included Glendive Grade School, Glendive, MT; St. Mary High School, Great Falls, MT; Walsh High School, Ottumwa, Iowa; Catholic Central High School, Great Falls, MT; St. Leo High School, Lewistown, MT; and secretarial assistance at Ottumwa Heights, Ottumwa, Iowa. She then retired to the Humility Center, Davenport.
Memorials can be made to the Sisters of Humility of Mary Retirement Fund.
Survivors include a niece B.J. Dunnington, Lewistown, MT. and many grand nieces and grand nephews. Sister was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Mary Hubbard and Bertha Skornogoski, and brothers, Edward Abel and Walter Abel. May they rest in peace.

John "Jack" Hughes
Funeral Services and memorial Mass of Christian Burial for John “Jack” Hughes, 90, of Largo, FL, formerly of Davenport, will be 10:00am Saturday, July 31, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Long Grove, IA. Private burial will take place in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00PM Friday at the church where a prayer service will be offered at 7:00pm.
After a brief illness, Jack died peacefully with his Rosary in his hand and his daughters at his side on Friday, July 23, at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater, FL.
John “Jack” Selden Hughes was born icon March 29, 1914 in Portage, WI, the son of David Arthur and Florence (Selden) Hughes. He was united in marriage to Lillian Kathryn Zamastil on June 13, 1948. She preceded him in death in 1978. He then married Leota Pauline Winchester on January 3, 1981.
Prior to his retirement he had been employed as a precision grinder for the Rock Island Arsenal.
Jack was a devout Catholic who participated fully in the sacraments of the church and bible studies wherever he lived or traveled. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, camping and camp hosting. He used to love hiking in the Chocolate Mountains near his home in Niland, CA. He dearly treasured time with his family. Even after he was unable to walk unassisted, he traveled by electric scooter to visit his wife who resides in a skilled nursing facility often spending 2-3 hours a day with her.
His memberships include President of Sacred Heart Cathedral Holy Name Society, President of Toastmasters International (Local Chapter), President of Union at R.I.A., Eucharistic Minister & Lector in several parishes, Knights of Columbus, and he was a docent for The Living Desert for 20 years.
During WWII he served in the U.S. Navy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jack’s name to The Living Desert, 47900 Portola, Palm Beach, CA 92260.
Survivors include his wife, Leota, Largo, FL; daughters Sheryl Hughes-Empke (David), Park View, IA, Denise Hughes-Conlon (Chas), Largo; stepdaughter Karen M. Van Egdon (David), Antelope, CA; grandsons Christopher Conlon, Largo, Joseph and Teddy Hughes-Empke, Park View, and Gregory Dean, Sacramento, CA; two additional stepgrandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
In addition to his first wife Lillian, infant grandson Billy Jonathan Hughes-Empke preceded him in death.

William F. Collins
Funeral Services and a Mass of Christian Burial for William F. Collins, 72, Davenport, will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 30, 2004 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Graveside Military Rites will be conducted by the Marine Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 Thursday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home where a prayer service will be offered at 6: 30 p.m.
Mr. Collins died Monday July 26, 2004 at the Davenport Good Samaritan Center after an extended illness.
William Francis Collins was born icon September 7, 1931, in Davenport, the son of Vincent and Honora (Bradley) Collins. He was united in marriage to Dorella “Dodie” Hodson, May 17, 1985, in Davenport. She preceded him in death June 30, 1998.
Bill was a firefighter for 32 years with the Davenport Fire Department retiring in 1988.
He served his country in the United States Marine Corp. during the Korean conflict, and was a member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge, and Knights of Columbus # 532.
Memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Nursing Home or Alzheimer’s Association of the Quad Cities.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Michael Bergthold, St. Paul, MN; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Joanne Collins, St. Paul, MN, Michael and Cynthia F. Collins, Minneapolis, MN, Joseph Collins, Weston, FL., Patrick and Harumi Collins, Enterprise, AL; step daughters, Michelle Cirillo, Denver, CO., Dawn Hann, Plantation, FL., and Julie Oliger, Davenport; 23 grandchildren and one great granddaughter; a sister, Mary Gripp, Davenport, and numerous nieces and nephews.
His parents, wife, and a sister, Patricia Collins, preceded him in death.

Burrell H. Davidson
Funeral Services celebrating the life of Burrell H. Davidson, 68, Bettendorf, will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2004 at the All Faith Chapel, Halligan McCabe De Vries Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the Funeral Home.
Burrell died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at Trinity Medical Center at Terrace Park, Bettendorf.
He was born icon September 13, 1935 in Ava, Missouri, the son of Wesley and Beatrice (Turner) Davidson. He married Earsel L. Phillips, February 22, 1957, in Davenport. She preceded in death June 12, 1998.
Burrell retired from Alcoa, April 1, 1999, where he worked in the transportation department for over 40 years. He was an active member in the United Steelworkers Union.
Survivors include his daughters, Kelly Shehadeh, Davenport and Tammy Harvey, Moline; sons, Marty Davidson, Mesa, Arizona and Jeff Davidson, New Orleans, Louisiana; six grandchildren and a brother Gerald Davidson, Ava, Missouri.

Kirk A. Ullrich
Funeral Services celebrating the life of Kirk A. Ullrich, 49, Davenport will be 12:00 noon Friday July 30, 2004 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Honoring his wishes Cremation Rites will be accorded. Private family burial will take place at a later date.
Kirk died Monday July 26, 2004 in a bicycling accident while participating in RAGBRI, in Sioux City, Iowa.
Kirk Allyn Ullrich was born icon March 24, 1955 in Davenport the son of Ray W. and LaVon E. (Sizenbach) Ullrich. He was united in marriage to “B.J.” Betty Jo (Waldron) August 9, 1986 in Davenport.
Mr. Ullrich served our country in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. He worked at the Rock Island Arsenal as a Sheet Metal Fabricator for the over 29 years.
Kirk was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed ice fishing; bicycling and especially taking long walks. He was also loved riding his motorcycle with his wife.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family for an education fund for his grandchildren.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife Betty Jo, Davenport, daughters, Brianna Ullrich and her children, Shila and Michael, Rock Falls, IL; Ericka Ullrich, Urbana, IL and Corey Schebler, Mt. Vernon, IA; his parents Ray and LaVon Ullrich, Davenport; and his sisters Bonnie and Bob Harksen, Taylor Ridge, IL, and their two sons, Clay, Taylor Ridge, and Derek, Rock Island, IL; Christie Lin Ullrich, Davenport and his brother Greg Ullrich and Dawn Berg, Mesa, AZ.

Louis "Louie" Horvath
Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Louis “Louie” Horvath, 70, a resident of Bettendorf will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be today (Friday) at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. There will be a Prayer Service at the funeral home at 5:00 p.m.
Mr. Horvath died on Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at Manor Care Health Center, Davenport following an extended illness.
Louis was born icon July 2, 1934 in Hungary a son of Joseph and Catherine Horvath. He was united in marriage to Odeena Johnson on May 27, 1961 in Geneseo, IL. He was very proud of his heritage. He and his wife traveled back to his homeland on several occasions. He left Hungary in the 1950’s and became a Naturalized Citizen of the United States.
Louie worked for many years and retired from International Harvester – East Moline, IL. where he had been a machinist.
Memorials can be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include is wife, Odeena, Bettendorf; a brother, Joseph Horvath, Hungary; a brother-in-law, Bernhard (Violet) Johnson, Erie, IL; and nieces, Becky Jo and David Duax, Moline, Becky Lynn and David Tuttle, Iowa City, IA; and Liz Johnson, Daytona Beach, FL; nephews, David (Laurie) Johnson, East Moline, IL; and Jeff Johnson, Erie, IL.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Manor Care for the wonderful care and special attention shown to Louie.

Thomas E. Britt
Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Thomas E. Britt, 43, a former resident of Davenport will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 2, 2004 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Long Grove, Iowa. Visitation will be Sunday at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. There will be a prayer service and time to share stories celebrating Tom’s life at the funeral home Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
Tom died unexpectedly of natural causes Monday, July 26, 2004 at his home in Manhattan Beach, California.
Thomas Edward Britt was born icon March 14, 1961 in Davenport a son of Lawrence J. and Frances (May) Britt.
Tom also affectionately known as “Wiener”, from the days of his hot-dogging while playing baseball led a life that can only be described as “colorful”. If excitement was going on, Tom was involved. He will be truly missed by an extensive circle of friends, including lifelong friends and schoolmates, who will especially miss his irregular visits. He attended Assumption High School, Davenport Class of 1979. Following high school the race was on, he followed his dreams and his heart and developed a career in the Music Industry as a talented sound and lighting technician.
With his keen interest in music he was always “hanging with the band”, his career in the Music Industry eventually led him to jobs with Kiss and Billy Joel. He was currently employed by Time Warner in Hollywood, CA. as a scene designer for “Extra” and “American Justice”.
He will be dearly missed by his many friends and associates in the industry.
Memorials can be made to Assumption High School for a Scholarship Fund that will be established in Tom’s name.
Survivors include his father, Lawrence “Larry” and wife, Judi Britt, Davenport; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike and Mary Gail Britt, Lawrenceville, GA; Pat and Gretchen Britt, Bozeman, MT; and Terry Britt, Davenport. Numerous aunts, uncles and loving nieces, nephews and cousins whom will surely miss his tales of adventure.
His grandmother who helped raise him, Bernice “Bea” Britt and a cousin, Trisha, preceded him in death. May they all be together in peace.

Adeline A. Drish
Funeral Service and Mass of Christian Burial for Adeline A. Drish, 95, of Brighton, Iowa, will be 11:15 a.m. on Monday, August 2, 2004 at the Kahl Home for the Aged, Davenport. Burial will be 3 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, East Pleasant Plain, Iowa. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Halligan McCabe De Vries Funeral Home. Adeline died Friday, July 30, 2004 at the Kahl Home.
Adeline A. Peck was born icon November 1, 1909 in Jefferson County, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Rosie P. (Kregoski) Peck. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Parsons College, Fairfield, Iowa, and completed graduate studies from the University of Iowa. She married Charles A. Drish June 14, 1934 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Polishville, Iowa. He preceded in death August 6, 1988.
Adeline retired in 1975 as Special Ed teacher from the Fairfield School system. She was the 3rd and 4th grade teacher in Brighton, Iowa.
She was a member of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, CCD coordinator and teacher for St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, East Pleasant Plain, Iowa; and Parish Council member, secretary and steering committee member of St. Joseph’s. Her other memberships include the Center for Active Seniors, Delta Kappa Gamma, she was President of the Fairfield Community Education Association and a delegate to the National Education Association conventions in New York and Chicago. She was a member of the Iowa State Education Association, Council for Exceptional Children, board member of the Washington County Chapter of the American Red Cross and Chairman of the Brighton, Iowa, Red Cross Chapter. She served a two year term as President of the Washington Council Federated Women’s Club and a past officer of the Brighton Federated Club.
Memorials may be made to the Kahl Home for the Aged, St. Joseph’s Church, East Pleasant Plain, Iowa; and the Polishville Association.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Kiefer (Carl), Davenport and a son, Ted Drish, Greenfield, Iowa ; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren; sisters, Louise Forbes, Fairfield and Laurine Armatta, Rock Island, Il; and a brother, William Peck, East Pleasant Plain.
