Sister Rosemary Shay
Sister Rosemary Shay, CHM, 91, died Friday, July 30, 2004 at the Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at the Humility of Mary Center in Davenport. Burial will be at the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Davenport.
Sister Rosemary was born
the daughter of Robert and Margaret (Hart) Shay on December 22, 1912 in Maloy, Iowa. She attended Maloy Iowa Consolidated, and Ottumwa Heights in Ottumwa. She received her bachelor degree from Marycrest College in Davenport and her Masters in Education from Creighton University in Omaha, NE. Other graduate work included Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI and Regis University in Denver, CO.
Her missions included St. Anthony, St. Theresa and Dowling High School in Des Moines, Melrose, IA, Ottumwa, IA, Cosgrove, IA, Georgetown, IA, Marshalltown, IA and Minneapolis, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Mary Warin and Rita Shay and brother Robert Shay.
She is survived by five nieces and 1 nephew.
Visitation will be after 4pm, Monday, August 2 at Our Lady of Peace Chapel, Bishop Drumm in Johnston with a rosary at 4pm and a wake service at 7pm. There will also be visitation after 4pm, Tuesday, August 3 at the Humility of Mary Center in Davenport with a wake service at 7pm. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Sisters of Humility. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Patricia O'Malley
Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for Patricia O’Malley, 83, will be 12 noon Saturday, March 20, 2010, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. on Saturday at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.
Miss O’Malley died Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at her residence at Silvercrest at Garner Farms, Davenport, after a sudden illness.
Mary Patricia O’Malley was born
August 1, 1926 in Davenport, the daughter of William J. and Anne (Walsh) O’Malley. She graduated High School from the Villa de Chantal, Rock Island, IL.
She received her BA Degree in education from Marycrest College, Davenport and attended Western Illinois University and the University of Iowa. Her teaching career extended over 38 years. She taught at the Villa de Chantal and for the Davenport Community School District. She retired in 1990.
She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Davenport.
Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Building Fund or your favorite charity.
Survivors include her sister, Anne Ocar, Overland Park, KS; nieces and nephews, Debbie Bayer (Terry), Overland Park, KS, Jane Miller (John), Davenport, Claire Schneider (Ted), Eldridge, IA, Brian O’Malley (Melissa), St. Charles, IL, Brent O’Malley (Joyce Briggs), Woodhull, IL, David Ocar, and Douglas Ocar (Beth), all of Minneapolis; many great nieces and nephews; and a sister in law, Lois Suiter-O’Malley, Davenport.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister in law, Robert and Marilyn O’Malley, Sr., brother, William O’Malley, nephew, Robert O’Malley Jr., and a niece Christine Ocar. May they rest in peace.
Thomas G. Moore
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Thomas G. Moore, 73, a resident of Davenport, will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will take place in Holy Family Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home. There will be a rosary at 2:00 p.m. to begin the visitation. Tom died Thursday, March 18, 2010 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.
Thomas George Moore was born
on March 7, 1937, in Davenport, a son of Clarence and Dorothy (Van Camp) Moore. He was united in marriage to Marcia Labath on October 5, 1963 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Davenport. They have shared over 46 years of marriage together.
Tom was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal as a mechanical engineer for 31 years. He retired in 1993. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, and the Holy Name Society.
After his retirement, Tom was able to give a lot of his time and talents to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. He also enjoyed cross-stiching. While his children were growing up, he coached Dad’s Club softball teams in Davenport. He also enjoyed rooting for his beloved Green Bay Packers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eagles’ Wings Counseling and Retreat Centers, Davenport.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Marcia, children, Mark Moore, Davenport, Christopher Moore, Tampa, FL, Brian (Michelle) Moore, Fargo, ND, Jennifer Moore, St. Charles, MO, and Richard Moore, Davenport; grandchildren, Matthew, John, Joseph, Alex, Jeremiah, Malachi, Madonna, and Sara; a sister, Mary Ann Crowell, and a brother, Daniel Moore, both of Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Rose Marie. May they rest in peace.
Mary Adeline Hull
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mary A. Hull, 86, a resident of Davenport, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2010 at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Masonic Cemetery, Tipton, IA. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be additional visitation Monday at the funeral home from 9:30 until the time of service. Mrs. Hull died Thursday, March 18, 2010.
Mary Adeline Mathias was born
on September 27, 1923 in Rural Linn County, Iowa, a daughter of Opha and Vera (Kinnan) Mathias. She was a 1943 graduate of Tipton High School.
Mary went to work at Ralston-Purina shortly after graduation. She retired from there in 1986 after 43 years of service.
Mary was united in marriage to Larry Hull on November 20, 1965. Together they raised three boys together. Mary and Larry loved to dance. When their children were young, they did a lot of traveling and camping as a family. These were Mary’s most enjoyable times.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of over 44 years, Larry, sons and daughters-in-law, Frank (April) Hull, Steve (Debbie) Marxen, and Bruce (Chris) Hull, all of Davenport; five grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Cecil (Freda Chambliss) Mathias, Tipton; a sister, Lorna (Clarence) Paulsen, Coal City, IL; a sister-in-law, Helen Mathias, numerous loving nieces and nephews; and special friends, Rev. David and Barb Palm.
Mary was preceded in death by her a grandson, Nathanael Marxen; her parents, and her brothers, Harry, Wayne, and Merle Mathias, and nephews, Dwight and Marland.
The family would like to thank the staff at Compass (Amenity) Hospice and Lighthouse Homecare., and Massage Therapist, Beth Sweeney.
Margaret A. Leonard
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret A. Leonard, 62, a resident of Bettendorf, will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097-18th Street, Bettendorf. Burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.. Margaret died Saturday, March 20, 2010, surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous battle with brain and lung cancer.
Margaret Alice Ebertowski was born
on October 9, 1947 in Davenport, the only child born
to Gehard and Charlotte M. (Longstreth) Ebertowski. She was a 1965 graduate of West High School. Margaret was united in marriage to Roy Leonard on December 31, 1966 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Davenport.
Margaret was employed by Wagners Printers for 18 years until their closing in 1995.
She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Her life revolved around her husband, children, and grandchildren. When diagnosed with cancer almost 3 years ago, Margaret was motivated by setting various goals. Recently, she reached her final goal of being in attendance of her grandchildrenÂ’s First Communion.
Margaret had a green thumb; she enjoyed tending to her flower garden, and being outside. She also loved to cook and decorate her home for the holidays, her favorite time of the year.
Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice or the Handicapped Development Center.
Margaret is survived by her husband of over 43 years, Roy; daughter and son-in-law, Kristine and Larry Ratigan and their children, Nicholas and Jordan, Davenport; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Sarah Leonard and their children, Madeline and Claire, Davenport, and son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Jackie Leonard and their children, Matthew and Hope, Bettendorf; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Eber and Ruth Leonard, Bettendorf.
She was preceded in death by her parents. The family would like to thank Dr. David Mercer and his staff for the care they showed Margaret, and to all who have given their time and compassion these last few years, especially her good neighbor, Carolyn Swart.
John A. "Jack" Gardina
John A. "Jack" Gardina, 83, a resident of Davenport died Friday, February 12, 2010 at Genesis East Campus in Davenport following a brief illness.
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 18, 2010 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 916 E. Rusholme Street, Davenport. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is Wednesday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. You are invited to join the family to pray the Rosary at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday to begin the visitation. There will be additional visitation on Thursday in the Gathering Space at the church from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m.
John Andrew Gardina was born
June 4, 1926 in Asheville, Pennsylvania a son of Joseph A. and Grace (Crilley) Gardina. John was proud to have served in the U.S. Navy during WW II.
He was united in marriage to Theresa Jean Gettings on February 18, 1950 in Cresson, Pennsylvania. Jean preceded him in death on July 6, 2009.
John graduated from the St. Francis College, Loretto, Pennsylvania, with a BA in Business. He retired in 1988 from the Cummins Company following many years with a career in Sales & Management.
Mr. Gardina had been an active member of St. Paul the Apostle Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed golf, gardening and his grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Building Fund at St. Paul the Apostle or to the Genesis Foundation.
Survivors include his daughters, Faith (Larry) Endresen, Bettendorf, Hope Gardina, Clinton, Claudia (Scott) Mescher, Hibbing, MN, Cindy Gardina, Oakbrook Terrace, IL; Michelle Kolar, Davenport, Monica (Mike) Slamkowski, Colorado Springs, CO, Jackie Gardina, Putney, VT; his sons, Tim (Ileana) Gardina, Managua, Nicaragua, Kevin Gardina, Muscatine, Tony (Stacey) Gardina, Franklin, TN; 21 grandchildren, two great grandchildren; a sister Janet Ruscio, Altoona, PA.
In addition to his wife Jean, he was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Vern, Raymond and Ralph. May they rest in peace.
Sonya M. Brown
Memorial Funeral services to celebrate the life of Sonya M. Brown, 44, of Geneseo will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 19th, 2010 at “ Faith Walk World Outreach Center” 1450 Avenue of the Cities, Silvis, Illinois. Family and friends are invited to a memorial visitation on Thursday, from 4-7 p.m., at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St. Davenport, Iowa. Honoring her wishes, cremation rites were accorded. Sonya died Saturday, February 13, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport, following an extended battle with cancer.
Memorials may be made to an Education Fund for Kristin.
Sonya Mae Osborne, was born
July 2, 1965 in Joliet, Illinois, a daughter of Arthur W. and Dorothy (Shope) Osborne. She was united in marriage to Russell E. Brown on July 18th, 1986 in Moline, Illinois. Sonya was employed for over 11 years at the Von Maur Corporate office in the Sales Audit department.
Ultimately, Sonya’s greatest joy in life was her family. She enjoyed nothing more than to be cheering Kristin on in whatever sport she was competing. She also had a soft heart for animals.
Those left to honor her memory include Russ, her beloved husband and their daughter and the center of her life, Kristin both of Geneseo; her mother, Dorothy Osborne, also of Geneseo; her sister, Brenda Martin, Colona, IL; her two brothers, Gary (June) Osborne, San Diego, CA and Roy (Jean) Mercer, Geneseo; as well as numerous other loving extended family and in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Her father preceded her in death.
Justin Valtine
Justin Lee Valtine, 21, of Davenport, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m.at Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport.
Justin was born
April 17, 1988 in Davenport and had attended West High School.
He enjoyed watching basketball and wrestling, as well as playing video games with his cousins. He especially enjoyed drinking coffee in the morning with his mother and talking over what they would do that day.
Survivors include his mother Pamela Valtine; sisters Kayla, Amber, Christina, and April Valtine; aunt Angie Valtine, uncles Virgil Valtine, all of Davenport, and Scott Valtine, Clinton.
Callie Boudreau
Memorial services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Callie L. Boudreau, 83, a resident of Davenport, will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 22, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. Inurnment will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Keeping with Callie's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. The family will greet friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. The family invites you to join them to pray the rosary at 4 p.m. Mrs. Boudreau died Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Callie Louise King was born
September 17, 1926 in Canton, Missouri, a daughter of William and Nellie (McDermott) King. Callie married her high school sweetheart, Paul Boudreau, on November 8, 1947 at St. Patrick's Cathedral in St. Patrick, Missouri. Paul preceded her in death on June 12, 2003.
Callie worked for Younkers, retiring in 2000 after over 20 years of service. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Alter and Rosary, and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary.
Callie was an accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed bingo and going to the riverboat with her sisters, although she never once won. Her most cherished time was the time she spent with her family.
Memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, Shrine of St. Patrick, St. Patrick, MO, or to the Humility of Mary Shelter, Davenport.
She is survived by her daughters, Vonnie (Jerry Bald) Boudreau, and Karen (Don) Huss; sons, Stan (Cyndee) Boudreau, all of Davenport, and Tim (Sherry) Boudreau of Bartlett, IL; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Geneva Wiegand, Davenport, Kathy Hesse, Rock Island, and Margie (Marty) Linehan, Davenport.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 55 years, Paul, her parents, twin infant sons, Pat and Paul Boudreau, a brother, Pat King, and a sister, Mary Jones. May they rest in peace. The family would like to thank the staff at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for the care and compassion they showed to Callie.
