Merle Jones
Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for Merle D. Jones, 55, will be 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 2618 Boies Ave. Davenport. Burial will be at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, with military rites conducted by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 299.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, March 8, 2010, at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. The family invites you to join them in a rosary service on Monday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home to begin visitation.
Merle died Saturday March 6, 2010, at Rosewood Care Center, Moline, after an extended illness. He was born icon August 22, 1954, in Davenport, the son of Merle Leo Jones and Vera Marie (Ricke) Jones.
Merle served his county during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Navy. He was united in marriage to Kathleen L. Claeys, May 5, 1979, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Long Grove, Iowa.
He was employed as an electrician for Local 145.
Merle loved watching TV, good food and camping. His favorite shows were The Price is Right and Texas Rangers.
Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial to be established in Merle’s name.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen; sons, David (Meghan) Jones, Oswego, Ill., and Michael (Julia) Jones, Davenport; grandchildren, Isabelle Jones and Brayden Jones; sisters, Linda (Gene) Schumacher, Bettendorf, and Pat (Fred) Ricketts, Blue Grass, Iowa; brothers, Robert (Carol) Jones, Davenport, and Kenneth (Judy) Jones, Davenport.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Jane Jones Huff and Teresa Jones Walljasper and a stepmother, Evelyn Jones.

Constance "Connie" Siefers
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Constance R. “Connie” Siefers, 57, a resident of Davenport, will be at Noon on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will take place in Oakdale Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 11:00 until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home. Connie died unexpectedly Sunday, March 7, 2010 at her residence in Davenport
Constance Rae Ware was born icon on August 1, 1952 in Davenport, Iowa a daughter of Elmer and Francis Irene (Gamble) Ware. She was united in marriage to Wayne Siefers in 1991. He preceded her in death in 2004.
Connie was employed at Conklin Foods in the Deli until the time of their closure. In her free time she enjoyed crocheting, rooting for the Green Bay Packers, and enjoying the outdoors: fishing, camping, and boating. She enjoyed her summers at their cabin on the Wapsi River and their Cabin Cruiser. She cherished and spoiled her grandchildren. She especially enjoyed showing them how to fish. She loved her dogs, Beanie, BooBoo, Red, Jiggs, and her cat, Clooney.
She is survived by her children, Shane (Tina Phillips) Montgomery and Shawn Malli, both of Davenport; grandchildren, Tina Malli, Christopher Petersen, Cody Malli, Zane Montgomery, Haley Muzzey, Jordan Montgomery, Justina Phillips, Mariah Phillips, Lucas Sampica, and Steven Montgomery; her mother, Irene Ware, Davenport, sisters, Sandra Dooms, Davenport, Barbara (Robert) Farris, Mesa, AZ, Marcia Ware, Troy, OH; brothers, Donald Ware, Bettendorf, Robert Ware, Davenport, Charles “Mike” Ware, Davenport, Richard “Rick” Ware, Davenport, and Albert Ware, Anamosa, IA.
She was preceded in death by her father, and her brothers, Daniel Ware and Everett “Pee Wee” Ware.

Rufus L. Ewing, Sr.
Rufus Lilbourn Ewing, Sr., 72, a resident of Davenport died Monday, March 8, 2010 at Genesis East Medical Center. Honoring his wish cremation rites will be accorded and private services will be held at a later date. He was born icon August 1, 1937 the a son of Rufus L. and Lula (Manary) Ewing in Oskaloosa, IA. He was married to Prudence "Lupe" Mendez she preceded him in death.
He is survived by his children, two daughters, Sophia and Bridgett Ewing, Davenport; three sons, John Ewing, Davenport, Charles Mendez, Moline, IL and Rufus (Sandra) Ewing, Berwyn, IL; He was preceded in death by his wife Lupe and a son, Felipe.

Helen E. Sweeney
Graveside services for Helen E. Sweeney, 87, a resident of Davenport will be 12 noon, Friday, March 12, 2010, at Numa Cemetery, Numa, Iowa. Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Helen died, Friday, March 5, 2010 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Davenport.
She was united in marriage to Carl Sweeney; he preceded her in death in 1975.
Helen was employed in the housekeeping department at the former St. Lukes Hospital (Genesis East).
Survivors include Doreen Burton and Danny Burton both of Davenport.

Henry H. Ladehoff
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate the life of Henry H. Ladehoff, 94, a resident of Davenport will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport, Iowa. Interment will be at Memorial Park in Davenport. Visitation is Saturday from 10:30a.m. – 12:45 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. Mr. Ladehoff died peacefully Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Cathedral, 422-E. 10th Street, Davenport IA 52803.
Henry was born icon April 11, 1915 on the family farm in Walcott, Iowa, the son of Arnold Paul and Olga Hilda (Mumm) Ladehoff. He grew up in the Walcott area, attended Cleona Township grade school and Davenport High School. He was united in marriage to Laura Elizabeth DePaepe on June 7, 1947 at St. Mary’s Church in Rock Island. Henry and Laura enjoyed celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary at a gathering for family and friends in 2007.
Henry served proudly in the U.S. Army from 1941 through 1945, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He was stationed at Camp Shelby, Mississippi for induction, sent for desert training in Arizona, maneuvers in New Orleans, additional training in Africa, and he saw active war effort in four major battles during a march through Italy in WWII. During his service he was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Known for his humility, he was hesitant to accept the Purple Heart as he didn’t think he was hurt badly enough to have earned that recognition. Henry enjoyed many annual reunions with his army buddies and maintained contact with a small circle of those friends.
Mr. Ladehoff was a 56 year member of the American Legion. He was also affiliated with the Moose, CASI and Plus60 organizations and frequently volunteered efforts in support of Sacred Heart Church and their food pantry.
Henry retired from International Harvester Company in East Moline, IL in 1975, after working 35 years assembling, inspecting and repairing combines. He instilled a strong work ethic in his children and will always be remembered as a devoted husband, dad, grandfather, brother, uncle and neighbor.
With farming as a passion during his youth, Mr. Ladehoff was the Scott County Corn Husking Champion in 1938. In later years, he was an avid gardener and his seven foot tall tomato plants were the envy of the neighborhood. With folding chairs always in the trunk, Henry and Laura were ardent fans for virtually every sporting event in which their children and grandchildren were involved. Henry’s memory could recall the finest details of every game, every inning and every play. He took great pride in his offspring’s academic and athletic success.
In later years, Henry cheered on the beleaguered Chicago Cubs and enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Most of all, he loved being surrounded by family.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years Laura Elizabeth and their three children and spouses; Del (Nancy) Ladehoff, Patricia (Richard) Meredith all of Davenport, and Betty (Robert) McPhilimy, Lake Forest, IL; grandchildren Dan (Sloane) Ladehoff, Judi Ladehoff, Kirsten (Brad) Schneider, Scott (Shelby) Meredith, Angela Meredith and Megan McPhilimy; great-grandchildren Brock and Cade Ladehoff, Nathan and Luke Schneider; and many dear step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, one step-great-great-grandchild, a brother Larry (Kay) Ladehoff, of Palos Hills, IL, as well as 20 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Olga Ladehoff, sisters Ida Hartsock and Ella Ladehoff, and brothers Rudy, Alfred, and Vernon Ladehoff. May they rest in peace.

Robert Scheppler
Madison, Alabama /Davenport, Iowa
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Robert W. Scheppler, 57, a resident of Madison, Alabama formerly of Davenport, will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 15, 2010 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097 – 18th Street, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mr. Scheppler died on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at his home in Madison, Alabama.
Robert William Scheppler was born icon March 31, 1952 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Robert H. and Jayne (Linhardt) Scheppler. He had worked as a pilot for many years.
He was united in marriage to Heather Joy Williams on December 3, 1981.
Memorials are suggested to either St. John Vianney Catholic Church or the American Stroke Foundation.
Survivors to honor his memory include his wife, Heather and their son, Robert L. Scheppler, Madison, Alabama; his sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Ralph Glaser, Chesterfield, Missouri, niece, Melissa Reidelberger, sisters-in-law Diane Macdonalle and Star Conley, and brothers-in-law Robert Williams and Blair Williams and their families.
His parents and a sister Judith Ann Scheppler preceded him in death. May they rest in peace.

Enrica Hodson
Enrica Teresa Maria Hodson, 59, a resident of Davenport, died March 11, 2010 at Trinity Rock Island, following an extended illness.
Services to Celebrate her Life will be 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 15, 2010 at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, Davenport, Iowa. The family will greet friends Monday prior to the service from 3:00 until the time of service. Private family burial will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal.
Enrica Teresa Maria Aleksiejczyk was born icon December 3, 1950, just three hours after her parents arrived in Davenport by train from New York, after emigrating from Italy. Her parents were Michele and Marta (Santachiara) Aleksiejczyk.
Enrica graduated from Davenport West High School Class of 1969. She then went on to earn her Associate Degree from Palmer College.
She was united in marriage to Charles Hodson III, on May 27, 1972 in Davenport.
Enrica had been employed as a secretary for the tailor Willie Ekstein; worked for Hy-Vee in floral deliveries; and had been a registered child care provider. For many years she had also worked as an election poll watcher. She served as Chairman for the Class of 1969 Reunion Committee, volunteered with the PTA and assisted with the Food Share Program.
Enrica enjoyed painting ceramics and was a talented seamstress; she found great satisfaction sewing blankets for family and friends.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank-you to the Davenport Fire Department Station # 5, Heartland Healthcare, Genesis West and Trinity Rock Island ICU.
Memorials can be made to the family.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Hodson III; a daughter, Stephanie Hodson, and a son, Charles Hodson, IV; a sister, Alma (Hinh) Do, and brothers, Michael (Jill) Aleksiejczyk, and Richard (Gwen) Aleksiejczyk, and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents. May they rest in peace.

Harriet Keefe
Harriet E. Keefe, 92, a resident of Davenport passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Private family services will be held at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport at a later date. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
Harriet Emily Watkins was born icon December 10, 1917 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa a daughter of George and Rose (Havill) Watkins. She married James Thomas Keefe December 10, 1937 in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her in death on October 26, 1978.
Harriet graduated from Davenport High School and received her Iowa Certificate of Teaching. She worked as a teacher until her marriage, and as homemaker until her children were grown. In later years she worked at J.C. Penny Co. and in the library at St. Ambrose College.
Survivors include her son, Greg (Andrea) Keefe of Bettendorf, her grandchildren, Chris Keefe, Jill (Ken) Paine, Jeff (Calie) Keefe, Mikhaila Norton, five great grandchildren, and a daughter-in-law, Shirley Keefe.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son Jerome, a sister Velma Jane Pfitzenmaier, and a brother George Oliver Watkins.
The family would like to extend their warmest thanks to the caregivers at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Dr. Rajendran, and to the loving and caring nursing staff on fourth floor at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus.

Ann K. Johnson
Ann K. Johnson, 75, of Davenport, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2010, at her residence.
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian burial to celebrate her life will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 16 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Davenport with Monsignor James Parizek and Rev. Tom Parlette officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park in Davenport. Visitation is Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home. There will be a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. that all are invited to attend.
Memorials may be made to St. Alphonsus Church, 2618 Boies Ave, Davenport, IA 52802.
Ann was born icon May 7, 1934, on the family farm in Scotland, South Dakota, the daughter of James and Anna (Kocer) Stepka. She was united in marriage to Lester Johnson on October 12, 1954 in Tyndall, SD.
Before moving to Iowa, Ann taught children in a country schoolhouse in Tyndall, SD. She was a loyal and loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed listening to music, looking at flowers, playing euchre, helping her grandchildren with their homework and sharing a good Czech meal with family and friends.
Ann courageously endured the many debilitating stages of having Muscular Dystrophy. She was a devoted Catholic. She will continue to be our spiritual leader by her guiding daily testament to loss of physical ability while remaining strong in mind and spirit.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 55 years, Les, daughters, Vicky Johnson (Jean Wakem), Searsmont, Maine and Lori (Michael) Black, Davenport. Grandchildren, Ashley, James, and Anna Black of Davenport. Sisters Dorothy Walloch and Helen Koupal, Davenport. Betty Siewert, Avon, SD and brother Ray Stepka, Tyndall, SD. Several nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
