Cambridge, Mayme M.

Cemetery: Sts. Peter and Paul

Mayme M. Cambridge, 87, of Republic, Missouri formerly of Solon died Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at the Christian Health Care Center in Republic, Missouri after a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, August 8, 2005 at Brosh Chapel, Solon with Father David Wilkening, officiating. Interment will follow at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, rural Solon. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Sunday at Brosh Chapel, Solon.

Mayme was born icon in Solon, Iowa on March 24, 1918. She was the daughter and youngest child of the late Emanuel B. and Mary (Krob) Rushek. She was a graduate of Solon High School Class of 1936. She married Arthur B. Cambridge on December 16, 1942 in Camp Pickett, Virginia. During World War II, Mayme worked as group leader for Collins Radio. Later she worked for Killian’s Department Store in Cedar Rapids and was co-owner of Princess Steakhouse & Lounge in Pochontas, Iowa from 1975 to 1987. Mayme was a lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW, and 3rd Armored Division. She was also a long time member of the Elks Club. She was a wife, mother, and homemaker for 63 years. She was a resident of Kimberling City, Missouri for the past 13 years. Mayme was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed. She led a life of dignity and courage. She lived life to it’s fullest everyday and only looked for the positive in everyone and everything. She was adored by all who were blessed by knowing and loving her.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years Arthur B. Cambridge of Republic, Missouri; two sons, Arthur E. of Republic, Missouri, and James C. of Austin, Texas; six grandchildren, Marcia Davis, Christine Beckel, and Jennifer Hazelrigg all of Springfield, Missouri, Keeley Cambridge of Denver, Colorado, Jeffrey Garthoff of Kansas City, Kansas, and Melissa Sassi of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; nine great-grandchildren, Amanda and Matthew Beckel, Jeremy Davis, Andrew and Alexis Hazelrigg all of Springfield, Missouri, Zachary and Kelsea Garthoff of Kansas City, Kansas, and Zahra and Zahran Sassi of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In addition a brother-in-law Charles Sonka of Solon, and three nephews Thomas Sonka of Cedar Rapids, Samuel Sonka of Lexington, Kentucky, and Steve Sonka of Cherokee, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Elmer Rushek, and a sister Velma Sonka.

A memorial fund has been established for the Christian Health Care Center in Republic, Missouri.

Kriz, Leonard Frank

Cemetery: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery

Leonard Frank Kriz, 97, died Wednesday, July 27 peacefully at his home in Marion . Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 1 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids with Rev. Linda Hanson-Bibb from Salem United Methodist Church presiding. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, July 31 at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids and for an hour prior to services Monday at the chapel. Burial will follow services in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Leonard was born icon August 9, 1907 on a farm near Ely, the son of John and Mary Zahradnik Kriz. He received an Associates Degree from Cedar Rapids Business College . He worked for over 38 years at Linkbelt Speeder / FMC as machinist. Leonard also worked as a local contractor in the area for many years. Leonard married Mabel Marie Clark, December 25, 1941 in Cedar Rapids .

He is survived by a son Michael D. (Mary) of Merritt Island, Florida; grandchildren Erin (Dow) Wilson of Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, Karen Wheelin of Port St. John, Florida, Michael L. Kriz of Melbourne, Florida, and Tim Kriz of Merritt Island, Florida; greatgrandchildren Whitney Wilson, Ian Timothy Wilson, Joshua Wheelin, and Corinne Rose Gardner.

Leonard is preceded in death by his wife Mabel, who died August 8, 1998, a daughter Linda Frisch, and a grandson Ian Corwin.

Memorials may be directed to Salem United Methodist Church .

Smith, Edward and Ruby

Cemetery: Oakland Cemetery ~ Solon

Solon -- Edward John Smith, 84, of Eustis, Fla., formerly of Burlington, passed away at 9:22 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2005, in West Point Care Center, West Point .

Ruby Lois Smith, 79, of Eustis, Fla., formerly of Burlington, passed away at 10:15 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2005, at her daughter's home in Fort Madison .

A joint memorial service for Edward and Ruby Smith will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at Community of Christ Church in Hiawatha, with Pastor David Loy officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Inurnment: 2 p.m. Saturday, Oakland Cemetery, Solon.

Edward was born icon Dec. 28, 1920, in Solon, the son of John D. and Lucille V. Cavanaugh Smith. He worked as a security guard at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for many years.

Edward was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the European Theater. Ruby was born icon January 17, 1926, in Solon, the daughter of Levi and Anna King Pennington. She was a supervisor for TRW in West Burlington .

Edward and Ruby were married Aug. 29, 1941, in Palmyra, Missouri . They were members of Community of Christ Church in Hiawatha. During retirement they both worked as fee keepers at the campgrounds at Coralville Lake .

Survivors include two daughters, Geneva (Larry) Fullenkamp of West Point and Sandra (David) Behne of Fort Madison; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Edward is also survived by a sister, Virginia Pennington of Alburnett; and a brother, Richard Smith of Danville .

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ruby is also survived by a brother, Joseph Pennington of Alburnett.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and seven brothers.

A memorial has been established for Lee County Hospice or St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Jandl, Bessie M.

Cemetery: St. John Cemetery

Bessie M. Jandl, 95, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday night, July 19, 2005 at Manor Care Health services.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, July 22, 2005 at St. Ludmila Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids with Father Tom McDermott, presiding. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, Cedar Rapids . Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 pm Thursday at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids with a vigil service at 5:30 pm and a rosary at 7:00 pm. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to services Friday at the church.

Bessie was born icon on May 11, 1910 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Trachta) Jandl. She worked as an assistant traffic supervisor for Northwestern Bell for over 49 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of St. Ludmila Catholic Church and Telephone Pioneers.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Barbara Jandl of Cedar Rapids ; nephews, Michael Pratt of Quincy, Illinois, and James Jandl Sr. of Cedar Rapids ; and a niece, Teresa Moenck of Cedar Rapids .

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Julia Jandl and Stella Pratt, brother Edward Jandl, brother-in-law Harry Pratt, and a nephew, Thomas Pratt.

A memorial fund has been established for Amenity Hospice 211 1st Avenue SE Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52401

Behning, Mary Lou

Cemetery: St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery

Mary Lou Behning, 78, of North Liberty, formerly of Strawberry Point died from complications of cancer Sunday, July 10, 2005.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, July 14, 2005 at St. Ludmila Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids with Father Tom McDermott, presiding. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Fairfax . Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 pm on Wednesday at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids where there will be a 4:30 p.m. rosary service and a 6:00 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.

She leaves to mourn two sons Allen and Laura Behning of Ventura Heights, Iowa, Darwin and Janet Behning of Cedar Rapids; daughters Darla Dubishar of Iowa City, Mary and Jeff Dostal of Swisher, and special daughter Donna Mininni; one brother Vince Dalen of Plattville, Wisconsin; and one brother-in-law Clay Brady of Edgewood; and one sister-in-law Evelyn Behning of St. Olaf. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Dawn Kimsey, Robert Behning, Becky Alexander, Brittney Hagmeier, Brian Behning, Matt Behning, Brock Dubishar, Ashley Dubishar, and Michael Dostal. Also surviving are ten great-grandchildren Brea and Kayla Alexander, Dakota and Sierra Kimsey, Allanha Kessler, and Jenna Behning, Savannah and Kaleb Dubishar, Logan and Lauren Hagmeier; and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Darrell, two sisters Donna Brady and Rita Adams, two brothers in law, Darrell Adams, and Francis Behning, one brother Robert Dalen and her parents.

Mary Lou was born icon February 5, 1927 in Manchester to Genevieve and LaVern Dalen. She married Darrell Behning on December 10, 1946 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Strawberry Point. She graduated from Strawberry Point High school in 1945. In 1986 she retired from Collins after 22 years, then she worked at Toys R Us retiring in 2003.

Mom had an enormous passion for life. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, the Iowa Hawkeyes and social activities with her friends and family. Mom was our glue and will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers a scholarship will be established in honor of Mary Lou Behning. Contributions may be sent to 3418 Twin Lake View Drive, North Liberty, Iowa 52317.
