Lawrence, Charles Walter
Cemetery: Gillette, Wyoming
Charles Walter Lawrence, 72 of 210 Red Wing Road SW, died Friday, October 20 at his home from a sudden illness. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. A private family inurnment will be held at later date in Gillette, Wyoming.
Charles was born
January 4, 1934 in Gillette, Wyoming, the son of Richard “Pop” and Margaret A. Brennan Lawrence. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He married Martha A. Parks on July 12, 1970 in Blairstown. Charles was a union painter in Cedar Rapids for many years. He loved to be outdoors, spending time fishing and enjoying nature. He liked the company of his family and especially his bird, Andy Gump.
Charles is survived by his wife Martha; a son Rick (Tess Adair) Stoneburner of Cedar Rapids; a daughter Deb (Carl) Sivak of Denver, Colorado; two grandchildren Stephanie and Aaron; sisters Phyllis (Romie) Johnson of Austin, Colorado and Jackie Rule of Grand Junction, Colorado; a sister in law Mary Lawrence of Hot Springs, South Dakota; a brother Bill Lawrence of Albuquerque, New Mexico as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Tom and a brother in law Leo Rule.

Stahle, Carol Ann
Cemetery: Mt. Calvary Cemetery
Carol Ann (Rokes) Stahle, 59 of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, December 10 at Mercy Medical Center from a brief illness. Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 15 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church with Fr. Mark Osterhaus presiding. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids where there will be a 7 p.m. Catholic Daughters of America rosary. Visitation will also be one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
Carol was born
December 25, 1946 in Independence the daughter of George W. and Julia B. (Fosse) Rokes. Carol graduated from Jefferson High School in Independence in 1965. She worked for many years as a nurse’s aide before marrying Ron. She married Ronald Stahle April 12, 1969 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence. Her biggest enjoyment was her role as Grandma. Her greatest happiness was her grandchildren whom she adored and loved so deeply and with whom she was looking forward to celebrating her birthday on Christmas Day. Carol never met a person, stranger or family, that she didn’t give a hug. She was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Chancel Choir, Resurrection Choir, and Serenaders. She was also a member of Catholic Daughters of America Court #1768 for many years. Carol used her talents and love of cooking, baking, and crocheting for Catholic Worker House, St. Matthew’s Church, and Birthright.
Carol is survived by her husband of 37 years, Ron, two daughters Lisa (Dan) Thuerauf of Mt. Vernon, and Lori (Steve) Schnier of Richardson, Texas; her “sweet babies” Jacob, Julia, Christian and Annalise Schnier, and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of Baby Thuerauf in March 2007. Carol is also survived by her two sisters Pat (Ray) Gates of Independence and Norma Gates of Independence; two brothers Harry “Bud” (Marge) VanHorn of Trempalau, Wisconsin and Richard “Dick” (Pat) VanHorn of Chicago, Illinois; sister’s-in-law Marjorie Jensen of Cedar Rapids, Dolores (David) McMullen of Azle, Texas and Judi (John) Zachar, Jr. of Holiday, Florida; many nieces and nephews especially Greg (Jane) Gates of Independence, Sue (Ed) Gipper of Fairbank, and Bob (Helen) Gates of Cedar Rapids as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents George and Julia Rokes; aunt Rose VanHorn; sisters-in-law Louise Frazier and Evy VanHorn; brother-in-law L.E. “Buster” Gates; and mother-in-law Mary Law.

Bortz, Loretta Irene
Cemetery: Oakland Cemetery
Loretta Irene Bortz, 79, died Sunday, December 17, 2006 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City from a sudden illness. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 21 at Brosh Chapel in Solon. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Solon and for an hour prior to services Thursday at the Chapel.
Loretta was born
February 24, 1927 in Solon the daughter of Rudolph and Clara Reif Lingel. She married George Carl Bortz August 10, 1949 in Cedar Rapids. Loretta and George farmed for many years in the Solon area. She enjoyed spending time on the farm, cooking and playing cards. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, the Ely Legion Auxillary as well as the Cedar Booster Club.
Loretta is survived by her husband George, a daughter Nancy(Robert) Welsh of Williamsburg; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a brother Wilbur “Bud” (Doris) Lingel of Solon; a daughter in law Patti Schott of Tipton and a special family member Malinda (Dave) Poduska of Lowden.
Loretta is preceded in death by her parents, a son Gary who died January 11, 2004.

Mackey, Phyllis J.
Cemetery: Mount Calvary
Phyllis J. Mackey, 73 of Cedar Rapids died Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at St. Lukes Hospital from a lengthy illness. Funeral mass will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 30 at St. Ludmilas Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids where there will be a 6 p.m. vigil. Visitation will also be 1 hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
Phyllis was born
November 9, 1933 in Ely, the daughter of Thomas and Rose Mrstik Mackey. She graduated from Wilson High School. Phyllis worked for many years at Wilson and Farmstead Foods and was a custodian at Prairie Middle School until her retirement.
Phyllis is survived by her sisters Pauline(Joseph) Becicka of Cedar Rapids and Bee(William) Leidich of Solon; her brothers Robert(Virginia) Mackey and Dave(Veronica) Mackey all of Center Point; as well as many nieces, nephews, greatnieces and greatnephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Ruth Kinzey.

Wille, Adolf "Shorty" Albert
Cemetery: Oakland Cemetery
Adolf "Shorty" A. Wille, 81, died Monday, January 1, 2007 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City from complications from a stroke. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2007 at Brosh Chapel in Solon. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by the Solon American Legion Stinocher Post #460. Visition will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel.
Shorty was born
October 1, 1925 in Iowa County, the son of Adolf and Minnie Wardberg Willie, Sr. Shorty served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Germany. He married Edith VonAhsen on January 5, 1947 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Shorty was the Sexton at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Iowa City for over 33 years, retiring in 2002. He loved to camp and play cards.
Shorty is survived by his wife of 60 years Edith, sons Dale (Barb) of Waterloo, Randy (Cindy) of New Boston, Illinois and Curt (Julie) of Fairfax, a daughter Mary Bartlett (Bob Kuncl) of Tipton, six grandchildren, a sister Luella Brockshaus and a brother Donald (Delaine) Wille all of Williamsburg. Preceding him in death were his parents, a son Dennis, a brother Eldon and a sister Gertrude Drucker.

Raue, Robert Leroy
Robert Leroy Raue, 60, of Cedar Rapids died Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at St. Luke’s Hospital from a lengthy illness. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2007 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Bob was born
October 16, 1946 in Center Point, the son of William and Aletha Barton Raue. He married Pamela Ann Morrison on August 2, 1996 in Ellis Park.
Bob is survived by his wife Pamela Raue of Cedar Rapids; a stepdaughter Michelle (Wilbur) Morrison-Phelps of Virginia Beach, VA; two stepsons Christopher Morrison and Donnie Morrison of Cedar Rapids; sisters Barb (Larry) Horning of Las Cruces, NM and Vicky (Matt) Gent of Marion; brothers David Raue of Marion, and Rick (Wendy) Raue of Cedar Rapids; seven special friends Tracey Brown, Austin and Taylor and Meghan Dreckman, Sherman Watson, and Ben Ogle, and Samantha all of Cedar Rapids.

Schilling, Richard P.
Cemetery: Mt. Calvary Cemetery
Richard “Dick” Paul Schilling, 65, of Cedar Rapids died suddenly at home on Monday, January 15, 2007. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 19 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, where full military rites be conducted by Hanford American Legion Post 5. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday and for an hour prior to services Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Richard is survived by his wife of 21 years, Georgia; brother Glen (Joy) of Colorado Springs, CO; sisters Shirley Hanson of Seattle WA, Helen (Bruce) Cregeen of Punta Gorda, FL, and Norma (Leonard) Buser of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are sister-in-law Joann Schilling of Waterloo, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Linda and Larry Prachar, and brother-in-law Nick Stadler all of Cedar Rapids; an aunt Arlene Schilling of Waterloo, and many nieces and nephews, and a very “Special Friend” his cat, Katie. Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers Raymond and Merle; brother-in-law Jim Hanson, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Leroy “Duke” and Virginia Dusil.
Richard was born
on November 24, 1941 in Waterloo, to Della (Hakenwerd) and Clarence Schilling. He graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Cedar Rapids. After completing basic training at Ft. Hood, Texas, Richard served in the Army from 1960-1963. During his term of service he was stationed in Germany as a missile tech specialist. He was a member of American Legion Post #5. For thirty years Richard worked as an operator at Cargill East Bean Plant retiring in 1999 and was a member of the Teamsters Union.
He was united in marriage to Georgia (Stadler) McCune on July 24, 1985 in Las Vegas. Richard loved Las Vegas and often talked about retiring there. Richard was a generous but practical person. One of his favorite pastimes was reading about current events and financial information. He knew the ups and downs of the stock market and loved to talk about them. Whenever the Hawkeye or Cyclone teams were playing, he was watching, and like so many Iowans was a true Cubs fan. His knowledge of sports players and teams was almost as good as that of the stock market. Richard was an enthusiastic coin collector and enjoyed the occasional trip to Iowa casinos. He and Georgia worked tirelessly as a team making their yard picture perfect and were proud of their accomplishments. A challenging game of cribbage with Georgia was also a favorite pastime.

Robidoux, Benjamin James
Cemetery: Campbell Cemetery
Benjamin James Robidoux, 37 of Cedar Rapids died Tuesday, January 16, 2007 from complications from a fall at work. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 20 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids with Dr. Charles Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Campbell Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and for an hour prior to services Saturday at the Chapel.
Benjamin was born
to Fred and Elizabeth Wood Robidoux on January 13, 1970 in Cedar Rapids. He was a graduate of Washington High School in 1989. He married Tammy Mulholland on August 10, 1996 at Bertram Methodist Church.
Ben loved his family and friends. He was a very dedicated father. He had a very strong work ethic and would provide whatever he could for his family. Ben loved to be outdoors hunting and fishing, as well as watching NASCAR. He was a millright and was employed with CR Conveying and had been a union millright for Newell Machinery.
Ben is survived by his wife Tammy; daughter Savana (Adam) Robidoux of Cedar Rapids; sons Walter Robidoux and Steven Robidoux of Cedar Rapids; a granddaughter Shay Ackerman; his mother Elizabeth Robidoux; and three brothers Walter (Judy) Robidoux of Rock Falls, IL, Kenneth (Tylin) of Masonville, and Joseph (Amber) of Riverside. He also help raise Randy and Stasha Thompson and Tiffany Aldridge. He was preceded into death by his father Fred Robidoux Sr., and his brother Fred Robidoux Jr.
