Anderlik, Lena M.

Cemetery: St. Josephs Catholic Cemetery

Lena M. Anderlik, 86 of Solon, died Monday, May 21, 2007 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 24th, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon. Burial will be in St. Josephs Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m.Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Solon, where there will be a 7 p.m. rosary. Visitation will also be a half an hour prior to services Thursday at the church.

Lena was born icon March 30, 1921 in rural Johnson County, the daughter of George R. and Julia Fuhrmeister Krall. She married LeRoy “Andy” Anderlik on February 25, 1941 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City. Lena worked for over 23 years as a Quality clerk for Westinghouse retiring in 1982. She lived for many years in Iowa City and moved to Solon in 1968. After retirement they moved to Arizona, spending time in Yuma and Mesa for many years. They later returned to Solon to be closer to their family. She enjoyed camping, playing cards with her longtime friends, traveling and most of all spending time with her family and friends. Lena also enjoyed her granddogs, that she loved having sit on her lap. Most of all, she enjoyed holding and feeding her great-granddaughter, Evan Fleck which was something she delighted in.

Lena is survived by her husband Andy of over 66 years; a son James Anderlik of Iowa City; daughters Judith Anderlik of Iowa City, Patricia (Dale) Pickering of Mesa, Arizona, and Susan (Dr. Larry) McCray of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren as well as several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; a brother Russell (Dolores) Krall and a sister Catherine Campion all of Estes Park, Colorado; a sister in law Monica Krall of Solon.

Preceding her in death were her parents, a brother Harold Krall; a daughter in law Gerri Anderlik; and a brother in law Bernard Campion.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Solon Fire Department and Rescue and or the Solon Care Center.

Race, Marcia Marie

Cemetery: Cedar Memorial Cemetery

Marcia Marie Race, 60 of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center. Services will be 1p.m. Monday, June 11 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids with burial to follow in Cedar Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11a.m. until service time at the chapel.

Marcia was born icon January 30, 1947 in Rockford, Illinois the daughter of Albert and Olive Robeson Voelzke. She married Raymond Race on August 9, 1971 in Illinois. Marcia was a very kind hearted person. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, baking and eating, playing bingo, shopping and watching movies and doing puzzles.

Marcia is survived by her daughter Amy Catherine Garcia of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren Parris McNeal of Cedar Rapids, Raymond, Jelina and Yessina Garcia all of Phoenix, AZ; sisters Anna May (Jerry) Duncan of Ninetysix, South Carolina, Bobbie (Dennis) Kolda of Marion, and Dianne Voelzke of Cedar Rapids; nephews Mark(Jen Sorrill) Kolda, John McBride, Tony White, Dean Duncan, Shane(Melissa) Duncan; nieces Christine (Tim) Kreel, Elizabeth McBride and Deborah Bolton; great nephews Sebastian Kreel, Christopher, Cody and Chandler White, Chase Duncan, David, Dean, Drake Duncan, A.J., Reid, and Braden Bolton, and great nieces Madisyn Kreel, Skylar Kolda and Whitney Duncan; and a special friend Jim Weiss of Middle Amana.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray who died in 1992 and an infant niece Stephanie McBride.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Zenisek, Bruce Edward

Cemetery: St. Mary's Cemetery

Bruce Edward Zenisek, 49 of Solon died Saturday, June 9, 2007 near Lisbon from injuries sustained in an accident. A funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 13 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon, with burial following in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 12 at Brosh Chapel in Solon, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil.

Bruce was born icon January 3, 1958 in Iowa City, the son of Raymond and Emily (Schulte) Zenisek.

Bruce is survived by his fiancée and her sons Theresa Loutsch of Cedar Rapids and Jason and Derek Loutsch; siblings Nancy (Dan) Grady of Colorado, Jan (Dean) Jeter of Iowa City, Joe (Susan) Zenisek of Kansas, Jim (Deb) Zenisek of Solon, Andy (Jan) Zenisek of Solon, Rita (Rod) Kunkel of Minnesota; his son Braedan Koss of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Emily Zenisek.

A memorial fund has been established.

Volesky, Lawrence William

Cemetery: Czech National Cemetery

Lawrence William Volesky, 85 of Cedar Rapids died Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at his home. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2007 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, with burial following in Czech National Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by the Ely American Legion St. Quentin Post 555. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, and for an hour prior to services Monday at the chapel.

Lawrence was born icon October 23, 1921, the son of William and Molly (Kroul) Volesky. He was raised on a farm near Linn Junction which is now part of the Seminole Valley Park. He was married to his beloved wife of 59 years. Lawrence and Blanche Novak were married on October 14, 1947 in North Liberty. Lawrence was a very patriotic man, serving his country in WWII. His courageous landing on the Normandy Beach June of 1944 took him into France where he was wounded in action. He proudly received his Purple Heart and served in three campaigns in Europe receiving three Bronze Stars for the Normandy, Central Europe, and Rhineland Campaigns. He continued serving his country as a proud member and past commander of the Ely Legion Post 555. Lawrence also farmed for many years and was a carpenter by trade, building many houses in the area from 1958 until present. He worked many years at Waconia Sorghum Mill.

Lawrence is survived by his wife Blanche; five children Vernon of Norway, Raymond (Paula) of Guthrie Center, Ronald (Mary) of Coralville, Jane (Duane) Walter of Swisher, and Clarence (Debbie) of Cedar Rapids; sixteen grandchildren Justin (Connie) Volesky, Aaron (Julie) Volesky, Amanda (Tracy) Coffland, Jeremy (Chrissie) Volesky, Michael (Amy) Volesky, Patrick (Emily) Volesky, Katie (Matt) Elsea, Rachel Volesky, Andy Volesky, Jason (Cindy) Walter, Ryan Walter, Lisa (Mark) Davis, Jill Whittlesey and fiancée Joe Dobler, Laura Volesky, Elizabeth (Ryan) Nielsen, Nicholas Volesky; and twelve great-grandchildren; a brother John (Adeline) Volesky and a sister Eleanor (Dale) Hegland all of Cedar Rapids, and a sister Evelyn Thuerauf of Joplin, Missouri; sisters in law Irene Novak of Solon, Leona (Ray) Westemeier of Cedar Rapids, and Marjorie Volesky of Newhall; and a brother in law Louie Novak of Tiffin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Marvin; brothers-in-law Bill Novak and Bernerd Thuerauf, sister-in-law Ulana Novak, and a granddaughter Michelle Walter.

Memorial may be directed to the family.

Musser, Donald John

Cemetery: St. Michael's Cemetery ~ Norway

Donald John Musser, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, June 18, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center. A Memorial Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 20 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.

Donald was born icon April 16, 1915, in Lone Tree, the son of John and Mary (Fountain) Musser Sr. He married Marcella Kuen on October 18, 1941, in Norway, Iowa.

A proud veteran of World War II, Don served three years and nine days with the 240th Army Engineers, primarily in the Pacific Theater. He worked for Link Belt-Speeder FMC for 36 years, retiring in 1982 as an inspector.

Donald is survived by his daughters Pat (John) Van Sickel of Palo, Connie Musser of Cedar Rapids, and Lisa (Randy) Wing of Rosehill, Kansas; a son Gary Musser of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren Amy (Aaron) Friedel, Chris Van Sickel, Carrie Van Sickel, Scott Musser, Cory Musser, Tina (Toby) Thurston, Bret Musser, Troy Musser and fiancée Laura White, Samantha Wing, and Ben Wing; great-grandchildren Aidan Friedel, Marik Lyons, Noah Musser, Kiara, Grace, and Adison Musser, Tyler Thurston; and a sister Jean Stock of Lone Tree.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marcella; three sisters; and six brothers.

A memorial fund has been established toward Macular Degeneration research.

Anderson, Lon Richard

Cemetery: Anderson Cemetery

Lon Richard Anderson, 61 of Norway, died Friday, June 22, 2007 at his home. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27 at First Assembly of God in Cedar Rapids. Burial will follow in Anderson Cemetery, Swisher where there will be full military rites performed by the Swisher American Legion. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, and from 9:00 a.m. until services Wednesday at the church.

Lon was born icon October 6, 1946 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Donald O. Anderson and Esther Anderson Yosko. He married Nadine Volesky on March 23, 1980 in the Wapsipinicon Park.

Lon is survived by his wife Nadine; sisters Lynda Peeler-Palmer Aventura, FL, Angie (Pam) Barents of Wagner, LA; mother-in-law and father-in-law Mr. and Mrs. John Volesky; sister-in-law Carol (Larry) Junis; nephews Scott and Todd; brother-in-law Dennis (Deb) Volesky; nieces Kim and Lisa; nephew Craig; two great nieces; and his beloved Rottweiler Mandy Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents, loving aunts, uncles, and his dogs Benson (Lab/Brittney) and Terra Belle (Rottweiler).

Lon graduated from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids in 1964. He enlisted in the Marines under 1371 Combat Engineer for 5th Bridge co, 5th Marine Division, and FMF Pac and served 13 months in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps. Lon began his Law Enforcement career as Linn County Conservation Park Officer. He graduated from the North American School of Conservation, Long beach Ca. and deputized as a Special Linn County Deputy as a Jailer at the Linn County Jail. Later he went to Louisiana Terrebonne Parish County Jail and was made Assistant Warden and later Assistant Director of the Police academy. He was sent as FBI instructor development, (Certified), and Firearms Instructor Certification, (certified).

From Louisiana, Lon took the job of Training Coordinator for the University of Missouri PD Dept. He was State of Missouri, Instructor Development, POST Certified; State of Louisiana P.O.S.T. Certified Firearms Instructor; LA, ACA - Corrections Instructor; LA State Firearms Instructor; State of Louisiana P.O.S.T. certified; POST certified through FBI Instructor Development Course; International Teacher, Management of Aggressive Behavior, (M.O.A.B.); Course for Law Enforcement and Correctional Personnel; National Instructor in O.C.A.T; 1991 Graduate, (Oleo-resin Capsicum) Instructor for Correctional and Law Enforcement usage of Chemical Agents; International Instructor; Quik-kuff.

Lon has Trained and Certified Instructors at the following, including nearly every major police academy staff in the country; LAPD Academy; Miami Swat Team; LA Sheriff’s Academy; San Diego Police Academy; California Highway Patrol Academy; POST Academy Instructors, in every State in U.S. Federal Academies include: Glencoe, Ga. (Federal Law Enforcement Training Center.); FBI Academy, Quantico, Va.; Canadian Provincial Police Instructors, Quebec, Ontario, Canada; R.C.M.P. (Royal Canadian Mounted Police); Regina, Winnipeg, Canada; United Kingdom, British Constabulary Instructors; Australian Police Academy Instructors; State Agencies too numerous to mention, Including: Police Training Institute, Univ. of Illinois. And State Police Academy Instructors, Springfield, Ill. (Relevant to this position)Lon was Master Instructor, as well as the Originator, Inventor, and Developer of the PR-24 Police baton and its training program. He has conducted numerous seminars including an International seminar, annually for the past 9 years.
