Fordice, Martha Marie
Cemetery: Brimfield Cemetery
Martha Marie Fordice, 83 a long time resident of Living Center West, died Saturday, November 17, 2007 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services will 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Burial will follow in Brimfield, Illinois. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Martha was born
October 20, 1924 in Shueyville, the daughter of Linton and Leila Brockway Fordice.
Martha is survived by her brothers Fred Fordice of Cedar Rapids, James Fordice of Rowley, and Lou (Kay) Fordice of Solon; numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Harry Fordice, and a special friend Ray Black.

Simon, Mabel Luella
Cemetery: First Presbyterian Church Cemetery
Mabel Luella (Burge) Simon, 92 of Des Moines, formerly of Ely, died Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at Fleur Heights Care Center in Des Moines. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at First Presbyterian Church near Ely. Burial will follow in First Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
Mabel was born
August 28, 1915 the daughter of Roy Elmer Burge and Clara Bell (Whitman) Burge, south of Mt Vernon, Iowa, where she attended Standing Rock School, and graduated from Lisbon High School in 1932. Her education and work included Iowa State Telephone in Lisbon, attending Paris Academy of Cosmetology in Cedar Rapids, and the Waves in WW#2. On November 26, 1953 she married Justus William Simon at the First Presbyterian Church near Ely, Iowa, and spent many years as a farmwife, and cook at Prairie Intermediate School.
More recently she was a resident at Elsie Mason Manor in Des Moines, Iowa where she had many cherished friends. Mabel’s community service and clubs were being a Deacon, a member of the Johanna Society of Ely, Presbyterian Women, the Rebekah Lodge of Ely, and the College Circle Club. Mabel’s interests included gardening, sewing, baking, love of music, and bible study.
Mabel is survived by her brother Ralph Burge, her son Joseph Roy Simon and Daughter-in-law Becky Simon, of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her husband Justus, and sisters Hilda Minor, and Maxine Walton.

Stanek, Evelyn Estella
Cemetery: Dunkard Cemetery
Evelyn Estella Stanek, 91 of Cedar Rapids passed away Sunday, December 9, 2007 in the home of her daughter Wanda in Moncks Corner, South Carolina after a lengthy illness. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2007 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Burial will follow in Dunkard Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, and for an hour prior to services Saturday at the chapel.
Evelyn was born
July 13, 1916 in Bertram, the daughter of Andrew and Effie Kelsey Kuehl. Evelyn married Alfred Stanek on April 22, 1938. They were married for 42 years.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters: Judy Cerveny, JoeAnn (Gary) Gilbertson, Sheila (Rod) Vavra all of Cedar Rapids, Corrine Isom of Columbia, Missouri, and Wanda (Bill) Panos of Moncks Corner, South Carolina; sons Dale (Alberta) Stanek of Cedar Rapids, Melvin (Sandi) Stanek of Livermore, California; granddaughters: Lori, Kathy, Shelly, Brenda, Thereasa, Nicole, Jennifer, and Danielle; grandsons: Dale II, Mat, Brian, Brett, Jeff, Chad, Shawn, Jason, and Jamie; 28 great-grandchildren: Michelle, Melissa, Nichelle, Ashley, Amber, Chad, Erin, Austin, Mirandia, Joshua, Jordan, Alex, Nicole, Jessica, Alina, Blake, Samantha, Alex, Caleb, Emma, Madalyn, Trent, Mirah, Elisha, Leah, Tate, Rilie and Nathaniel; and brothers Raymond Fifield of Toddville, and Gaylor Fifield of Waterloo.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred; a granddaughter Lisa; her parents Effie and Andrew; stepdad Forest; sisters Erma Davenport and Iola Davenport; brothers Delbert Kuehl, La Vern Kuehl, Clarence Fifield, and Timmy Fifield.

Pennington, Joseph Elijah
Cemetery: Lafayette Cemetery
Joseph Elijah Pennington, 90, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, December 26 at St. Lukes Hospital from a sudden illness. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 31 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids with Rev. Ronald Marrow presiding. Burial to follow in Lafayette Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, December 30th at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Joseph was born
September 15, 1917 in Wayne County, Illinois, the son of Levi and Anna King Pennington. He married Virginia Lucille Smith on July 30, 1938 in Iowa City. He worked for many years as a machinist for Iowa Rivot and Tool, served as a Marshall in Alburnett and Brighton, and farmed in the Viola area as well.
Joe is survived by his wife Virginia; their children, Joseph Jr. (Sandra) Pennington of Tipton, Karen (Ronald) Jepson of Lake Wales, Florida, Dean (Candy) Pennington of Vinton, Randy (Yolanda) of Mediapolis, and Denise (Lawrence) Sorensen of Toddville, ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law Lois Pennington.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a daughter Diane Baugh, 8 brothers and 3 sisters

Dostal, Marvin Frank
Cemetery: St. John's Cemetery
Marvin Frank Dostal, 80, of Cedar Rapids died Friday, January 4, 2008 at his home from a short illness. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday, January 7 at St. Johns Cemetery. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Marvin was born
September 8, 1927 in Ely, the son of Frank C. and Mary Rehak Dostal. He married Laverne Meskimen on November 13, 1950 in Cedar Rapids. She died November 26, 1985. He married Dorothy Nissen on March 8, 1989 in Las Vegas.
Marvin is survived by his wife Dorothy; a sister Helen (Jerry) Merta of Fairfax, Esther Kadlec of Robins; a brother Arnold (Marlene) Dostal of Cedar Rapids; a stepdaughter Cheryl (John) Pickart of Norway; a stepson Randy (Pam) Nissen of Martelle; step-grandchildren Nick(Allison), Nicole, Michael (Tammy) and Emily; a step-greatgranchild Noah.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Laverne, and a brother in law George Kadlec.

Jones, James Dean
James Dean Jones, 37 of Solon, died Wednesday, January 9, 2008. A celebration of life service will be 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 15 at Brosh Chapel in Solon. Brosh Chapel in Solon is in charge of arrangements.
James was born
June 24, 1970 in Iowa City the son of Carol Obadal and Terry Stammeyer. James was a truck driver for Atlas and currently at Rinehart Foods. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends, and most recently the time spent with his sons.
He is survived by his sons Kody and Dylan Jones of Homestead; parents Carol Obadal and Terry Stammeyer of Solon; sister Jill (Ben) Sampica and their children Mackenzie Morgan and Reid Sampica of Marion; maternal grandparents Ernest (Barb) Obadal of Swisher and Eldora Rathje of Cedar Rapids; paternal grandparents Lee (Marion) Stameyer of St. Lucas; as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Ulch, Zelma G.
Cemetery: Walker Cemetery
Zelma “Mickey” G. Ulch, 84 of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic from a sudden illness. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2008 at Church of the King, with Rev. Don Glazier presiding. Burial will follow in Walker Cemetery in Walker. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 11 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids and for an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
Mickey was born
February 2, 1923 in Iowa City. She married George W. Ulch in Cedar Rapids on November 29, 1949. She worked at Lefebure, FMC and Iowa Manufacturing for many years.
Mickey is survived by her son Harold McFarland of VanHorne; daughters Nancy Thompson and Gloria Lowe both of Cedar Rapids; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, son Michael Ulch, and a brother Clyde Magarell.
