Klein, Agnes G.

Cemetery: Cedar Memorial Cemetery

Agnes G. Klein, 88 of Marion, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Crestview Acres from a lingering illness. Services will be 12 p.m. noon on Friday, March 20, 2009 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, temporarily located at 3100 F Avenue NW, with Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum presiding. Burial will follow in Cedar Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 am until service time at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.

Agnes was born icon October 24, 1920 in Iowa County, the daughter of William and Anna Heager Kopf. She married Floyd L. Klein on January 6, 1944 in Marengo.

Agnes is survived by her sisters Mayme Cechura, Alice (William) Barker all of Cedar Rapids and Ann Binley of Marion, also numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Floyd on April 6, 1993, her sisters Ruth Kopf, Helen Binz, Blanche Parvin, Irene Bahr and brothers George and Walter Kopf, and a half brother Fred Puegner.

Memorials may be directed to the family at 2348 26th Street NW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52405-1227.

Ferdig, George

Cemetery: Welsh Pioneer Cemetery

George Ferdig, 81 of Iowa City, died Friday, April 10 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City from a brief illness. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 15 at the Welsh United Church of Christ, near Iowa City with Reverend Jerry Stevenson presiding. Burial will follow in Welsh Pioneer Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Solon American Legion. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 14 at Brosh Chapel in Solon.

George was born icon May 16, 1927 in Sioux City, the son of Al and Sophie Trizila Ferdig. George served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Ruth Wickey on February 22, 1947 in Sioux City. He was a manager for over 30 years for Dividend Bonded Gas, Derby and Coastal Gas Stations in Iowa City. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. George enjoyed fishing, bowling and camping and was an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan.

George is survived by his wife Ruth; his children Sandra (Bruce) Cook of Urbandale, Diana (Russ) Hradek of Cedar Rapids, Randy (Luanne) Ferdig of Solon and Rick Ferdig of Rifle, Colorado; eight grandchildren Nicole Cook (Brett Hansmeier), Traci (James) Clarke, Jennifer A. Ferdig, Jaclyn Ferdig, Jessica Ferdig, Jennifer I. Ferdig, Julia Ferdig and William Hradek; two great-grandchildren Samantha and Lucas Clarke; sisters Donna Stewart and Verna (Gene) Shockey of Sioux City.

George was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Alvin and an infant daughter Pamela.

Memorials may be directed to Mercy Home Care.

Paulsen, Isabel

Cemetery: Pleasant Hill ~ near Coggon

Isabel “Liz” Paulsen, 85 of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, April 16, 2009 at St. Luke’s Living Center East. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, temporarily located at 3100 F Avenue NW. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Coggon. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, April 24, 2009 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.

Liz was born icon March 27, 1924 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of James and Ella Todd Emerson. She married Roger Hammond in 1950, they later divorced. She then married Delbert “DP” Paulsen on May 5, 1985 in Newhall. Liz enjoyed playing bingo, sewing, and dancing.

Liz is survived by her daughter, Karen (Ray) Kelsey of Shellsburg; son, James of Shellsburg; three stepchildren, Dan Paulsen, Shirley Paulsen both of Cedar Rapids; and Joyce Wendt of Missouri; three grandchildren, Rod (Jamay) Ross of California, Sherry Ross of Cedar Rapids, and Sara Gardner of Cedar Rapids; two great-grandsons, Ryan and Luke Ross; and her siblings, Bernita (Earl) Stine, and Wilda Scholz.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Delbert on June 2006; two sisters; brother-in-law, Russ Scholz; and her great aunt.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Riley, Shirley Ann

Shirley Ann Riley, 50 of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, April 20, 2009 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy from complications from cancer. As per Shirley’s wishes, there will be no services. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley was born icon October 9, 1958 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Charles and Helen Carlton Brosh.

Shirley is survived by her dog Thumper.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Anson, Alex Peter

Cemetery: Oakland Cemetery

Alex Peter Anson, 24 died Thursday, May 7, 2009. Celebration of Life Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 12 at Brosh Chapel in Solon with Reverend Renee Lunemann presiding. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Brosh Chapel in Solon, where there will be a time starting at 7:30 p.m. to share a memory of Alex’s life.

Alex was born icon September 27, 1984 in Iowa City the son of Gary and Patricia Cumming Anson. He graduated from Solon High School in 2003. Following graduation he attended Kirkwood and for over the past two years worked for Centro Plastics Inc in North Liberty. He loved sports, especially playing soccer, hunting, fishing and hanging out with his friends.

Alex is survived by his father Gary (Cheryl) Anson of Solon, mother Patty Anson (Dean Miller) of Solon; his brothers Cory (Luann) Anson of Chandler, Arizona and Aaron Anson of Solon; a stepsister Melissa (Ryan) Lux of North Liberty; paternal grandparents Gerald and Marilyn Anson of Marshalltown; maternal grandmother Mary Jane Hawk of Shenadoah; as well aunts, uncles, cousins and his friends.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Alex Anson Memorial Fund.

Kral, Louis Richard

Cemetery: Oakland Cemetery

Louis Richard Kral, 80 of Solon, died Friday, May 22, 2009 at his home. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church where there will be a Catholic Order of Foresters rosary at 5 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be an hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.

Louie was born icon August 29, 1928 in rural Solon, the son of Louis and Anna (Beuter) Kral. He married Evelyn Marie Unick on September 14, 1948 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon. Louie worked as a mechanic and was the owner of E&L Shell in Solon. Louie was on the Solon City Council for 9 years and the Solon Fire Department for 10 years. He was a 75 year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, a religious education instructor for 15 years, church trustee, and an usher for St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was also a past President of the Solon PTA and Band Parents.

Louie is survived by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn; children, Robert (Pam) Kral of Riverside, Rita (Paul) Griffin of Riverside, Richard (Sharon) Kral of Clive, and Ronald Kral of Coralville; grandchildren, Angela (Matt) Jacoby, MeGan (Brian) Kempnich, Chad Griffin, Sara (Gordon) Russell, Lisa Kral, and Lindsay Kral; great grandchildren, Shaylynn and Terrhyn Jacoby, and Demetrius Kempnich; brother, Joe (Judy) Kral of Solon; sister-in-law, Lois Kral of Peoria, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tommy Kral, Harry (Bernice) Kral, and Mike Kral.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice, Solon Volunteer First Responders, and St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Solon.

Osborn, Jack Lee

Cemetery: Dunkard Cemetery ~ Midway

Jack Lee Osborn, 74 of Toddville, died Thursday, May 28, 2009 at his home from a brief illness. Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2009 at Oakland Church of the Nazarene with Pastor James Leatherwood presiding. Inurnment will follow in Dunkard Cemetery in Midway. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Monday at the church. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

Jack was born icon June 5, 1934 in Ottumwa, the son of Donald and Florence Duree Osborn. He married Elizabeth “Liz” Green on November 5, 1962 in Morrison, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Navy. Jack worked for ADM Corn Processing Plant for over twenty years until his retirement. Among the things that Jack liked were trips to the casino, going fishing, building and working with his hands on numerous projects.

Jack is survived by his daughter, Michelle Osborn of Cedar Rapids; son, Scott (Kim) Osborn of Center Point; and two grandchildren Austin Nelson and Sammijo Osborn; a brother John (Mary Ann) Osborn of Greene, his mother in law Frances Green of Cedar Rapids, and a cousin Lilla Slaymaker of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Elizabeth on December 11, 2008, two sisters Nancy Lint and Betty Reed and a brother Jim Osborn.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established at Metco Credit Union in his name.
