Louvar, Henry Rudolph

Cemetery: Czech National Cemetery

Henry “Rudy” Louvar, 93 of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, September 13, 2009 at West Ridge Care Center. Services will be 11:00 am. Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, temporarily located at 3100 F Avenue NW. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour prior to services Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, temporarily located at 3100 F Avenue NW.

Rudy was born icon January 12, 1916 in Central City, the son of Henry and Emma Louvar. He married Gladys A. Novotny. He proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II. Rudy was a member of the Swisher American Legion.

Rudy is survived by his son, Doug Louvar of Toddville; daughter, Denise (Steven) Meek of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Tony of Toddville, Tim (Abbie) of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Tamara of Williamsburg, and Todd (Amber) of Cedar Rapids; great-grandchildren, Bryce, Ethan, Sierra, Jordan, Brandon and Gabrielle

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Louvar; brothers, Emmett Louvar and Gilbert Louvar; and his daughter-in-law, Cynthia Louvar.

Memorials may be directed to family at 10309 Feather Ridge Road, Toddville, Iowa 52341.

Patricia Rae Andersen

Interment: at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery - Elkader, IA

Patricia Rae Andersen, 61, of Elkader, died Monday, April 19, 2004, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital, following a long illness. She was born icon on December 12, 1942, in Chicago, IL to Raymond and Theresa (Mader) Chartrand. She grew up in Elmhurst, IL where she graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic Schools. She was united in marriage to Bob Andersen on August 18, 1971, in Addison, IL. Pat and her husband Bob, published three small newspapers in Central Nebraska, and ran the Elkader Theater. She was an accomplished Ballet dancer in her youth and was a successful writer and editor, writing for numerous newspapers in Illinois and Nebraska. Pat enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, an occasional trip to the Miss Marquette and visiting with people. She attended Kearney State College while in Nebraska, and a special hobby was collecting angels. Survivors include her husband, Bob Andersen, Elkader; her children, Chris Andersen of Newton, Rob (Sue) Andersen of Guttenberg and Julie (Jeff) Schmidt of Elkader; six grandchildren, Raiann, Krissandra, Andrew, Megan, Molly and Lexi; a sister, Joan Leyden of Elmhurst, IL; brother-in-law, Jim Radcliff of Childersburg, AL; many nieces, nephews and friends. Her parents and a sister, Barb Radcliff, preceded her in death.

Levy, Elizabeth E.

Cemetery: Oakhill Cemetery

Mrs. Elizabeth E. Levy, 90 of Marion, died peacefully Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Willow Gardens Care Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 21, 2009 at Word of Faith Pentecostal Church of God in Christ, Pastor Wendell Beets, with Pastor Damian Epps of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Oakhill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, temporarily located at 3100 F Avenue NW.

Elizabeth was born icon August 27, 1919 in Waverly, Arkansas, the daughter of Rev. Henry and Lillie B. (Strickland) Johnson. She married Robert L. Levy Sr. in April 18, 1935, to this union thirteen children were born. Elizabeth was employed at Mercy Hospital as a dietician until her retirement after 18 years. She was a devoted member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church from 1964 until the day she passed. She was on the Mother’s Board and was in charge of the kitchen. Elizabeth was famous citywide for her 5 Flavored Pound Cake. She enjoyed baking, sewing, knitting, gardening, and most of all fishing. She also enjoyed telling all that would listen about her Lord and Savior.

Elizabeth leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Robert Levy and James Levy of Cedar Rapids; John (Carol) Levy of St. Paul, MN; daughters, Lillie B. Washington, Doris Poole, Ethel Levy all of Cedar Rapids, Margaree Levy of St. Paul, MN, Norain Jamison of Louise, MS, Blanchie (Roy) Broomfield of Belzoni, MS, fifty grandchildren; 150 great-grandchildren; a host of great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Eddie Johnson of Racine, WI; sisters, Essie B. Coleman and Lillie M. Smothers both of Marion, AR; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Levy Sr., parents Rev. Henry and Lillie B. Johnson; daughter, Edna Mae Stamps; sons Oscar Levy, J.B. Levy, and A.B. Levy

Memorials may be directed to the family at 17 Chapelridge Circle Apt. B, Marion, IA 52302.

Faltis, Helen Antonette

Cemetery: Czech National Cemetery

Helen Antonette (Michalek) Faltis was born icon on a farm east of Bertram, Iowa on June 7, 1920, on her sister Martha Janko's fifth birthday. She attended White school near by. She became a member of Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church in 1932 and was a member of the Hus Quilting Circle. Helen was very fond of growing and raising flowers. She was known in her neighborhood as the “lady” with the beautiful flowers and garden.

On August 19, 1941 she married William J. Faltis at Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church. Together they farmed on 76th Avenue S.W., Cedar Rapids until the airport expansion. They moved to Fairfax and then to Country Air Court for about 15 years. They currently resided in Cedar Rapids.

Helen survivors include her husband, William J. Faltis of Cedar Rapids, three children, W. David (Chrystal) of Swisher, Dennis Joseph (Bridget) of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, and Joyce Ann Faltis-Serenil of Omaha, Nebraska. Also surviving are two grandsons, Matt and Brian Faltis, three granddaughters, Amy (Patrick) Venetucci, Cassie Faltis and Alexandra Faltis, six great-grandchildren, one sister Martha Janko of Cedar Rapids, numerous nieces and nephews, and a special friend of the family, Mary Drake.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Anna Nemecek Michalek, her sister Ruth Vosatka and son-in-law, Leonardo Serenil.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2009 at Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, temporarily located at 3100 F Avenue NW. Burial to follow in Czech National Cemetery. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids in charge of arrangments.

The family would like to thank Dr. William Fusselman and the staff at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for their care and kindness shown to the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Fiala, Harold Joseph

Cemetery: Oakland Cemetery

Harold Joseph Fiala, 78 of Solon, died Sunday, October 4, 2009 at his home. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Brosh Chapel in Solon. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Solon. Full military rites will be conducted by the Solon American Legion Stinocher Post.

Harold was born icon March, 3, 1931 in Ely, the son of Joseph P. and Dorothy M. Melsa Fiala. Harold graduated from Solon High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army. He married Phyllis M. Walderbach on April 29, 1954 in Stone City. Harold and Phyllis farmed in the Solon area for many years. He was a dairy farmer and was proud of his work on the farm. He had a passion for music, as well as enjoying the outdoors including hunting and fishing. He was fond of his time with his friends and family and will be greatly missed.

Harold is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children, Doreen Fiala (Anthony DeTommaso) of Roeland Park, Kansas, Paula Fiala of Herndon, Virginia, Cheryl (Scott Leaverton) Fiala of Cedar Rapids, and Andrea (Stacy) Johnson of Fayetteville, Tennessee as well as five grandchildren; Madeleine DeTommaso, Emily Leaverton, Chloe Leaverton, Paul Spencer, Blake Johnson, a former son in law B.J. Leonard of Solon; brother in laws Dick (JoAnne) Walderbach of Anamosa, Bob (Bonnie) Walderbach of Anamosa, Tom (Ann) Walderbach of Arkansas, Mick (Gayla) Walderbach of Arkansas and Bill (Jane) Walderbach of Colorado; and a sister in law Kris Walderbach (Warren) of Cedar Rapids and his mother in law Ellen Walderbach of Anamosa; three special neighbor girls Olivia, Aspen and Alyse Erenberger, and a nephew Chad Walderbach of Cedar Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice, the Solon American Legion Memorial Fund and or to Sts. Peter and Paul Foundation.

Hanson, Anna Agnes

Cemetery: Czech National Cemetery

Anna Agnes Hanson, 98 of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, October 15, 2009 at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center. As per Anna’s wishes Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2009 at Czech National Cemetery. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangments.

Anna was born icon February 1, 1911 near Solon, the daughter of John and Annie Vanourny Zakostelecky. She graduated from Iowa University High School and went on to attend classes at Coe College and the University of Iowa. Anna received an Elementary School Certificate to teach in Johnson County. She married George R. Hanson on June 5, 1935 and together they operated and lived on their farm near Solon. Anna retired in 1956 after teaching in several schools.

Anna is survived by her a sister Evelyn Ogle of Bainbridge Island, Washington and a nephew John Ogle of Germany.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband George on August 9, 1983; a sister Velma Zakostelecky, a brother John Zakostelecky and a niece Lorri Ogle.

Memorials may be directed in her name to the donors choice.

Sarchett, Michael Dean

Michael Dean Sarchett, 58 of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, October 18, 2009 at his home. No funeral services are planned at this time. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is charge of arrangements.

Michael was born icon July 30, 1951 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Dean and Illomay (Bradley) Sarchett. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War. He married Cynthia Ullrick on November 17, 1973 at First Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids.

Michael is survived by his wife; his mother; children, Chris, Carrie, and B.J; one grandchild, Tyler; and a brother Mark.

He was preceded in death by his father Dean Sarchett.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
