May 31, 2004, in Cedar Rapids, IA to Brent and Nicole (Bockenstedt) Donaldson. Parker died on Friday, August 20, 2004 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa following a sudden illness. Survivors include his parents, Brent and Nicole Donaldson, Cedar Rapids; paternal grandparents; Larry and Marsha Donaldson, Lamont; maternal grandparents, Glen and Carla Bockenstedt, Strawberry Point; maternal great-grandparents, Mary Ann Bockenstedt, Strawberry Point and Lester and Virgie Dingbaum, Manchester. Parker was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandparents, Richard and Maxine Aeschliman and Tracy and Neva Donaldson.

Boyd Ernest LaRue was born
March 22, 1950, in Manchester, Iowa, to Alfred Ernest (Curly) LaRue and Dawn Marie (Brown) LaRue. He was raised and educated in the Manchester area graduating from West Delaware Community High School in 1968. Boyd was employed in construction and tree removal in Delaware County. He will be remembered for his community service as an Emergency Medical Technician, an Emergency Rescue Technician, retired member of the Manchester Volunteer Fire Dept., a Civil Defense Operator, Weather Spotter for KCRG, Animal Control Officer, and Special Police Officer. Boyd enjoyed animals and the outdoors. Boyd died suddenly on Thursday, August 19, 2004, while working in Manchester. Survivors include his fiancée, Sharon Moore of Manchester; two nieces, Mandy Hernandez and Shaun Stover of Fairbanks, Alaska; and a nephew Corban Stover of Fairbanks, Alaska. Boyd was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister Sharon Stover.

Lynn Trafford Drips, 82, of Arlington, formerly of Strawberry Point, Volga and Elkader, died Sunday morning, August 15, 2004 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, following a brief illness. He was born
August 18, 1921 in Springville, IA to Joseph and Fanny (Hempy) Drips. He attended Norwood Country School in Martelle, IA. He was united in marriage to Helen Luker on January 27, 1945 in Olin, IA. Four children were born
to this union. Lynn farmed in Martelle and Strawberry Point before moving to Elkader. He spent twenty-six years in Elkader where operated a trucking business, hauling milk and livestock. He had a great love for horses. Survivors include his wife Helen Drips, Arlington; his children, Joseph (Dee) Drips, Punta Gorda, FL, Betty Drips, Arlington, Roger Drips, Elgin and Mary Lou (Mark) Tillman, Waucoma; thirteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and a niece, Ruth Drips, Marion. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, George Drips.

Elmer William Butikofer, 85, Postville, formerly of Elgin, was born
April 2, 1919, at his parent’s home in Clayton County near Elgin. He was the son of Dan and Celia (Frieden) Butikofer. He was baptized at and a long time member of the Apostolic Christian Church, Elgin, IA. Elmer attended the Cherry Valley #8 School in Marion Township, Clayton County. On October 1, 1958, he married Lydia Rose Martie of Elgin at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, IA. They lived in Elgin until October of 1993, when they moved to Postville. They did live briefly in Alpha, IA. Lydia passed away on October 25, 1999. Although they had no children, they had many nieces and nephews and children in their church family that they enjoyed. Elmer, growing up on his parent’s farm, knew farming as a young man and then went on to many careers in his lifetime. He hauled cream and like many Elgin area people, worked at the Elgin Canning Factory. Also in Elgin, he worked at Capper’s Hatchery and a number of years at Hellum Produce. He worked a number of years for Fayette County Road Maintenance. He and Lydia for several years, were diligent caretakers of the East Clermont Lutheran Cemetery and of the Apostolic Cemetery. Elmer treasured his Elgin roots and his Swiss heritage. He and Lydia took many trips to Wisconsin Swiss areas and had also many Swiss mementos in their home from relatives in that country. After it became apparent Lydia could no longer live in their home because of difficulties with Alzheimer’s, she entered the Good Samaritan Center in Postville on February 14, 1994. Elmer spent parts of each day with her until her death. Because of his health, Elmer entered that facility in February of 2001. After various health problems, Elmer passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2004, at the Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 10 days. He is survived by brothers, Ben Butikofer, Dan (Anna Marie) Butikofer, Elgin and Silas (Patricia), Clermont; sisters, Lorraine Houg, Elgin and Mabel Thorsgard, St. Olaf; brother-in-law, Merlin Hellum, Elgin and nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Carrie Trafelet, Tillie Hellum, Leah Schneider; sister-in-law, Ragna Butikofer and brothers-in-law, Fred Trafelet, Sam Schneider, Myron Houg and Willie Thorsgard.

Ken Goings, 58, of Elkader, IA, died Monday night, August 9, 2004 at his home of a heart attack. He was born
November 28, 1945 in Charles City, IA to Paul and Ardith (Oleson) Goings. He grew up in Nashua, IA, in a loving family consisting of his parents, sister Kathy and brother Carl. Ken graduated from Nashua Community High School in 1964. In 1966, he married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Ann Trepton. Ken and Ruth have four children that are their greatest joy and delight. All of their life’s accomplishments pale in comparison to the importance that they have always placed on the raising of their children. Ken graduated from UNI in 1970, with a double major in business and math. Ken’s first teaching job started in January of 1970 at Central Community School in Elkader. He loved his job and the community so much that he and Ruth made it their permanent home. Ken taught at Central for the past thirty four years. Ken received his master’s degree in business in 1976. He has been active in so many things in the community and his church. He was church council president, Central Education president, president of Northeast Iowa Education Unit, an ambulance driver, an EMT, and a board member of Four Oaks Country Club. Ken loved to hunt deer, rabbit, and pheasant. He loved horses, westerns, and Louis L’Amour books. He was an enthusiastic, aggressive bridge player and loved working with his hands. He was always working behind the scenes making sure everything was fixed and ready for everyone else. Ken painted farm buildings for many summers to make extra income for his family. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ann Goings, Elkader, his children, Scott (married to Amy Woodworth), St. Paul, MN, Mark (married to Barbara Goings), Augusta, WI, Peggy (special friend Miles Pitcairn) Goings, San Diego, CA; and Mary, St. Paul, MN; grandchildren, James, Jackson and Samuel; his parents, Paul and Ardith Goings, Nashua and a sister, Kathy Baird, Sioux Falls, SD. Ken was preceded in death by his by his brother, Carl. Ken was a loving and devoted son, husband, father, papa, friend, colleague and person. We love you, Ken!

Joseph Kinsley Sharp was born
January 4, 1921, in Greeley to Earl and Bertha (Smock) Sharp. He grew up in the Greeley and Edgewood area, graduating from Edgewood High School in 1938. Joseph was united in marriage to Irene E. Chamberlain on September 2, 1942. Four children were born
to this union. Joe farmed for several years. He then took employment in construction as a heavy equipment operator in Manchester, Cedar Rapids, and several other cities. He has lived in Manchester the last five years. Joseph died on Friday, August 6, 2004, at Regional Medical Center in Manchester following a courageous battle with cancer. He was eighty-three years of age. Survivors include his four children, Charlotte (Oscar) Hicks of Manchester, Gary (Glenda) Sharp of LaQuinta, California, Kenneth (Karla) Sharp of Friendswood, Texas, and Harlan (Kathy) Sharp of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren; twenty six great-grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Irma Mair of Cherokee. Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Irene in 2002; a step-grandson, David Hicks; five brothers, Wayne, Dean, Merle, Gayle and Harlan Sharp. The family requests that memorials be directed to Delaware County Hospice.
Joe was inducted into the United States Navy, serving honorably from June 9, 1943 until December 1, 1945.
