David Dale Nurre, 65, of Greeley, died on March 22, 2005, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City of heart failure. He was born icon on December 13, 1939, in Dyersville to Floyd and Dorothy (DuBois) Nurre. He was raised and educated in the Greeley area, graduating from the Greeley High School in 1957. Dave was united in marriage to Judith Bockenstedt on April 18, 1960, in Greeley. On August 5, 1988 he married Barb (Hook) Farmer at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He farmed in the Greeley area. In more recent years, he hauled grain and livestock, and did custom baling for local farmers. Dave was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Greeley Volunteer Fire Department. He served on the Greeley Commercial Club board, Greeley Creamery board and was active with the Greeley Rope Pull Team in the 1970’s. Dave will be remembered as one who loved the land and farming. He enjoyed having coffee with friends at the local convenient store, deer hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Barb Nurre of Greeley; five children, Kris (Ken) Rave of Dundee, Rod (Ann) Nurre of Greeley, Paula Nurre of Schaumburg, IL, Luke (Tanya) Nurre of Dundee and Dustin Nurre of Greeley; a step-daughter, Sherri (Tom) Nolan of Arlington; three grandchildren, Sam and Spencer Rave and Renee Nurre; four step-grandchildren, Derek, Vanessa and Kendra Nolan and Zachary Flugum; his mother, Dorothy Nurre of Greeley; three sisters, Darlene (Merlyn) Boge of Greeley, Diane Nurre of Cedar Rapids and Barb (Jerry) Cole of Manchester and a brother, Steve (Mary) Nurre of Seoul Korea. Dave was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Nurre in 1996 and a step-son, Chad Farmer in 1993. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Georgene (Jean) Wilma Fenner, 85, Elgin, died Sunday, March 20, 2005 at Maple Crest Manor, Fayette, following a brief illness. She was born icon the second daughter of Wilma Christine (Strom) and David Shepherd Hull, on April 24, 1919, in Boone, IA. Georgene was confirmed at the First Evangelical Free Church, Boone. She graduated from Boone High School in 1937, at the age of sixteen. On April 16, 1938, she was united in marriage to Roy Leon Fenner at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. Six children were born icon to this union. Georgene worked in various roles through the years, from keeping books, clerking in a store, working in a factory in Ft. Dodge, running a restaurant, doing housework and again keeping books for Crown Oil for five and one half years before she retired at the age of sixty two. She loved her family dearly, loved being the "fix it grandma", sunshine tours and flowers. Georgene loved her faith and was an active member of her church. Survivors include her children, Larry (Judy) Fenner, Davenport, Jerry (Jan) Fenner, Bryan, OH, Joanne (Gerald) Bond, Wadena, Marlene (Keith) Nofziger, Mahomet, IL, Carole (Larry) Nading, Elgin, Janice (Allen) Knox, Clermont; seventeen grandchildren; twenty one great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Georgene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of fifty four years, Roy, on May 14, 1992; one granddaughter, Lori Jacobs; two great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Willich and Joshua Jacobs; two brothers, Lawrence and Walter Hull; two sisters, Elizabeth Ribbey and Ruth Hull in infancy.

Glenn L. Gifford

Glenn L. Gifford, 91, of Elkader, died Sunday morning, March 20, 2005, in Central Community Hospital following a brief illness. Glenn was born icon on March 25, 1913, in Elkport, Iowa the only child of George and Elizabeth (Ortman) Gifford. He attended Elkport schools and graduated from the University of Dubuque in 1935. On November 5, 1935, he married Marjorie Eppens of Colesburg, Iowa. Glenn served in the Treasurer's office in the Clayton County Courthouse and sold insurance from his home, before opening Gifford Insurance Agency in Elkader, at its present location, in 1952, which he ran until his retirement in 1978. Throughout his life Glenn was an enthusiastic supporter of the Elkader Community. His activities over the years included the Clayton County Conservation Board, Boy Scouts of America, the Masonic Lodge, Rotary Club, Peace Church and Clayton County Insurance Agents. In his retirement years he enjoyed his cabin and fishing on the Mississippi, following his grandsons in track, basketball and cross country events, gardening, especially flowers, and "maintenance work" at The Buttery. Glenn is survived by his son Brian Gifford and wife Florence of Elkader; his grandsons Thomas and wife, Michelle of Elkader, Marshall and wife Tari of St. Paul, MN, Andrew and wife Rachel of St. Paul, MN and six great grandchildren, Abigail, Elizabeth, Alice, Maxwell, Samuel and Owen. He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie of sixty four years and a daughter Nancy.

Leo H. Westhoff

Leo Henry Westhoff was born icon on January 28, 1922, at Petersburg, Iowa, to Herman and Elizabeth (Geistkemper) Westhoff. He was raised and educated in the Petersburg area. On January 22, 1948, he was united in marriage to Mary Krapfl at St. Patrick’s Church in Colesburg. They farmed near Petersburg until they moved to Manchester. Leo worked for Kraft Foods, Smitty’s Inc. Tires and Appliances, and did lawn care into retirement. Leo was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and ARC. His hobbies included collecting antiques and woodworking. Leo will be fondly remembered for his gentle kindness and relaxing on the front porch with his pipe. Leo died on Thursday, March 17, 2005, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids from complications following surgery. He was eighty-three years of age. Survivors include his wife, Mary of Manchester; six children, Lizabeth (Dennis) Koss of Peoria, Illinois, Michael (Karen) Westhoff of Las Vegas, Nevada, Sheri Arnold of Oskaloosa, Chuck (Lyn) Westhoff of Bloomington, Illinois, Sara Westhoff of Manchester, and Casey (Jaclyn) Westhoff of Ankeny; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Roland (Catherine) Westhoff of Dyersville; and two sisters, Leona Koelker of Dubuque and Sally Wegmann of Dyersville. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Elizabeth Westhoff; two infant children, Christopher and Patricia; and eleven siblings.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Delaware County ARC.

Robert Roy Carpenter

Robert was born icon May 28, 1932 at Edgewood, Iowa to Charles and Edna (Kingsland) Carpenter. He was raised and educated in the area attending the Edgewood High School. Robert was united in marriage to Florence Bond on December 24, 1954 in Dubuque, Iowa. Three children were born icon to this union. Together they resided in Delaware. Bob was employed with Cedar Rapids Incorporated for forty plus years. In 1993 Bob and Florence moved to Manchester. Bob died Sunday morning, March 13, 2005, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester, following a sudden illness. He was seventy-two years of age. Survivors include wife, Florence Carpenter of Manchester; two daughters Glenda Ridenour of Hopkinton, Iowa and Marla (Dan Colton) Wernimont of Delaware, Iowa; and three grandchildren, Travis Ridenour, Tara Aulwes, and Chantal Wernimont. Bob was preceded in death by his son, Bradley in February of 1979; three brothers, Harold, Walter, and Raymond Carpenter; three sisters, Louella Orr, Helen Shaw, and Erma Billmeyer; and his parents.

Robert entered the United States Air Force and served honorably during the Korean Conflict.

Frances Helen Stewart

Frances Helen was born icon May 6, 1921, at Ryan, Iowa, to Frank and Anna (Pierce) Pirnat. She graduated from high school and moved and lived in Cleveland where she worked at the T.R.W. Plant. She married Melvin Stewart and continued her work at the plant until she retired. She moved to Greeley in 2002 and made her home with Dean and Deb Kruger until she entered the Edgewood Convalescent Center in 2003. Frances passed away at the Edgewood Convalescent Center on Sunday, March 13, 2005, following an extended illness. She was eighty-three years of age. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; six brothers; and five sisters.

Frances enjoyed bowling and life.

Marilyn Cherie Blietz, 76, Monona, died Sunday, March 13, 2005, at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon, following a sudden illness. She was born icon on September 9, 1928, in Lancaster, WI, to Joseph Lee and Hazel Ellen (Rice) Blackbourn. On December 5, 1956, Marilyn was united in marriage to Charles Blietz at Cedar Rapids, IA. Three children were born icon to this union. Marilyn was a very special wife, mother and caregiver. She enjoyed all kinds of crafts, knitting, crocheting, reading and dancing. She loved watching birds and especially treasured time spent with family and friends. Survivors include two daughters, Vicki (Gouglas) Heilmann, Luana and Charlynn (Thomas) Schultz, Castalia; nine grandchildren, Brandon (Denise Zimmerman) Blietz, Joshua Blietz, Kristi Montgomery, Heath (Chris) Landt, Preston (Sophie) Landt, Jillian (fiancé Jose Garcia) Schultz, Destiny Schultz, Lisa Heilmann, Paul Heilmann; eight great-grandchildren, Trent Powers, Ryne Landt, Landon Garcia, Alliyah Schissel, Jordan Kline, Kylee Kline, Kendra Blietz, Adrian Zimmerman; two nieces, Linda (George) Hovey, Donna (Dave) Hutchinson; one sister, Leola (Roy) Williams, Cassville, WI and many great nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband on December 23, 1979, a son, Terry Lee Blietz in 1983, and Donald Weide, fiancé of Marilyn in 2002.

Melissa Ann Eiben, 26, of Carrolton, TX, formerly of Colesburg, died Friday, March 11, 2005, at Bayor Hospital, Dallas, TX, following injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born icon December 13, 1978, in Ames to Dr. Gary and Catherine "Katie" (Lane) Eiben. She graduated from Edgewood-Colesburg High School in 1997. She loved spending time with her daughter, Meliah, her family and friends and her special friend, Cedric. Melissa enjoyed the outdoors and music. She enjoyed journaling, fashion clothing and modeling. Survivors include her parents, Dr. Gary and Catherine Eiben, Colesburg; her daughter Meliah Eiben, Carrolton, TX, her special friend, Cedric Fielder, Carrolton, TX; brothers and sisters, Dr. Nathan Eiben, Dubuque, Sarah Eiben, Imperial Beach, CA, Joshua Eiben, Milwaukee, WI, Amy Eiben and Mathew Eiben, at home; paternal grandparents, Harold and Clara Eiben, Anamosa; maternal grandparents, John & Annice Lane, Mt. Vernon and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by one uncle, Thomas Lane. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for daughter Meliah Eiben.
