David Lee was born icon November 29, 1935, in Prairie Township, rural Delaware County, Iowa, to Earl and Selma (Lorenz) Raus. He was raised and educated in the area, attending rural schools and graduating from the Manchester High School. David was united in marriage to Beverly Leary (Preussner). Three children were born icon to this union. They divorced after twenty years of marriage. Dave married Donna DeSautel in 1977 in Waterloo, Iowa. Together they resided south of Manchester. Dave was employed as a farmer, farm realtor, and insurance salesman. He also was known as an honest horse trader (although his wife preferred the term “equestrian relocater”). Dave died on Monday, October 24th, at his home near Manchester. He was sixty-nine years of age. Dave died after a valiant battle with four different cancers in his lifetime. His positive attitude, fortitude, courage and compassionate nature were and are an inspiration to his family, friends, and medical staff. Survivors include his wife, Donna of Manchester; three children, Steve Raus and his fiancé, Sherry Johnson of Cedar Falls, Shelley Webb and her husband, David of Lenexa, Kansas, and Stacey Raus and his wife, Kristy of Cedar Rapids; two step-children, M. Gregory DeSautel and his wife Sue of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Robyn DeSautel and her husband Heath Hampton of Seattle, Washington; nine grandchildren; and one sister, Lorraine Koger and her husband, Dale of Lawton, Oklahoma. Dave was preceded in death by his parents.

He served honorably in the United States Army for two years during the Korean Conflict.

The family requests that memorials be directed to Delaware County Hospice of Comfort.

Angeline “Angie” Lindenberg, 80, of Elkader, died Sunday night, October 23, 2005, at the Elkader Care Center, following a long illness. She was born icon December 9, 1924 in Communia, rural Clayton County, to John Peter and Augusta (Hildebrandt) Thein. Angie graduated from the Elkport High School. She was united in marriage to Lowell Lindenberg on January 27, 1942, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Elkport. Three children were born icon to this union. Angie was a housewife and homemaker for thirty seven years. She also worked outside her home at many different jobs; Guttenberg Care Center for two years, assistant postmaster for three years, school cook for five years, restaurant owner for fourteen years, served two terms on the Elkader City Council in the 80's, served on the Board of Directors of Keystone Terrace, served on the Board of the Sister City Project, was a Salvation Army volunteer, was a Chamber of Commerce officer and a member of the Women's Auxiliary. Angie loved spending time with her family, her many friends, cooking and talking on the telephone. She was "always there for everyone." Survivors include her husband, Lowell Lindenberg, Elkader; her children, Lon Lindenberg of Elkhart, Sandy (John) Lightfoot of Garber; Kris (Karl) Kolz of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren Kiya (Chad) Yoakum, Phoenix, AZ, Tracy (Bobby) Wilson, Phoenix, AZ, Lonnie (Jaimie) Lightfoot, Monona, Ryan (Jill) Lightfoot, Garnavillo, Dan (Angie) Kolz, Rochester, MN, Renee Kolz, Madison, WI, Jean Easton, Des Moines, Julie Ferree, Indianola and Charles Noel, Des Moines; eleven great-grandchildren; two great- great-grandchildren; special care giver Deb Troxel and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lorraine Thein and Elvin Thein; one sister, Ulina Johanningmeier and daughter-in-law, Sandy Lindenberg. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 27, 2005, at St. John’s Congregational Church in Garber with Rusty Phillips officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Friends may call from 3-7 PM on Wednesday, October 26th at Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader.

Dorothy Louise Reth, 96, of Edgewood, died Friday night, October 21, 2005, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home. She was born icon November 23, 1908, in Dyersville to Joseph and Kathryn (Flanagan) Lappe. She attended school in Dyersville. She was united in marriage to Emmert Reth on June 7, 1932, at St. Francis Basilica in Dyersville. Four daughters were born icon to this union. They lived in Dyersville for a time and then moved to Masonville, where they remained until retirement. They retired into Edgewood, and her husband died there on March 13, 1987. Dorothy has resided at the Edgewood Convalescent Home for the past year. She was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church and Altar & Rosary Society. She enjoyed fishing, carpentry work and playing cards. Survivors include her children, Wilma (Elmer) Olsem, Colesburg, Lois Hullermann, Fennimore, WI, Jeanette (Lauren) German, Masonville and Jo Ann (Louis) Koch, Lamont; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren, Terry German and Michael Hullermann; a son-in-law, Tom Hullermann; three brothers and two sisters.

Nellie May Adams, 81, of Volga, died Friday, October 21, 2005, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader, following a brief illness. She was born icon May 22, 1924, near Wadena to Ora and Emma (Voshell) Crawford. She graduated from Wadena High School. In October of 1944, Nellie entered the US Army. She worked as a nurse in California for much of her time in service. She was honorably discharged in June of 1946, with a rank of T-5 and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. She was united in marriage to Walter Adams on December 23, 1946, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed and made their home throughout their married life in the Volga area. At one time Nellie was a Sunday school teacher in Volga, past 4-H leader with the Volga Bluebirds, American Legion Auxiliary member, past president of the Iowa Chapter #98 Legion and Highland Goodwill Club member. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, flowers, playing the piano, fishing, crossword puzzles, watching and feeding birds. Survivors include her husband, Walter Adams of Volga, her children, John (Debra) Adams of Ft. Morgan, CO, Mabel (Alan) Niceswanger of Somers, David Adams of Elgin and Marcia Hansel (friend Mike Fure) of Cassville, WI; seven grandchildren, Lori (Paul), Rona, Nathan (fiancée Erin), Justin (Anne), Lacey (fiancé John), Stephanie (friend Chad Dugan) and Nicholas and four great-grandchildren, Skyler, Brice, Morgan and Colby. She was preceded in death by her parents; two children who died in infancy; a son-in-law, Chuck Hansel; three brothers, Ralph, Bob and George Crawford and three sisters, Bertha Crawford, Iva Brandenburg and Belma Crawford.

Burdette Joseph Schlarmann

Burdette Joseph Schlarmann was born icon April 27, 1956 at Manchester, Iowa to Leonard and Bernice (Wilson) Schlarmann. He was raised and educated in rural Strawberry Point and graduated from Starmont in 1975. Burdette was employed by Exide in Manchester, Associated Milk Producers Inc. rural Strawberry Point and has been on disability since mid 1980s. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and motorcycling. Burdette died suddenly at his home in Strawberry Point on Thursday, October 20, 2005. He was forty-nine years of age. Survivors include his two brothers, Patrick Schlarmann and his wife, Darlene of Houston, Texas, and Andrew Schlarmann and his wife Mary of Dubuque; and two sisters, Catherine Pollard of Lucas, and Patricia Hodgdon and her husband Donald of Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Burdette was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Bernice Schlarmann; an infant brother, Michael; and a brother-in-law, Marvin Pollard.

Terry L. Miller age, 53 of rural Reinbeck, died Saturday, October 15, 2005, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa. Terry was born icon September 25, 1952 at Manchester, Iowa to Kenneth and Genevieve (Beaman) Miller. He was raised and educated in the Manchester and St. Paul, Minnesota areas. Terry was united in marriage to Clara Shreeves. They later divorced. He married Julee Waters on June 13, 2003 at Steamboat Rock. Together they were residing at near Reinbeck and Terry worked for NCM Plastic Plant in Grundy Center. Terry is survived by his wife, Julee Miller of Reinbeck; his children, Brandy Miller and Daniel Miller both of Cedar Rapids; two step children, Kyle Baker and Brandy Waters both of Cedar Falls; one granddaughter, Mia Lynn Center; one step-granddaughter, Zoe Waters; Father, Kenneth Miller of St. Paul, Minnesota; mother, Genevieve Wills of Greeley; two brothers, Jack (Rose Bolsinger) Miller of Edgewood, and Ken Miller of St. Paul, Minnesota; two sisters, Glenda (Darrel) Johnson of Cedar Falls, and Deb (Steve) Krogmann of Manchester; and Precious his dog. Terry was preceded in death by his Paternal grandparents, Raymond and Elsie Miller; maternal grandparents, Ben and Myrtle Beaman; and a still born icon brother in 1949. Terry will be greatly missed by all. He had a heart of gold and knew how to light up a room. Mia his granddaughter was the apple of his eye, and his dog precious was his constant shadow.

Larry J. Tinker

Larry James Tinker was born icon on July 26, 1959, in Manchester to Jack and Gladys (Manternach) Tinker. He was raised, educated, and graduated in 1977 from West Delaware Community Schools, where he was a four year letterman in wrestling. He received an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Agriculture Business at Kirkwood Community College. He resided at home for several years and farmed. The past nine years he farmed and lived in Edgewood. Larry died on Wednesday, October 12, 2005, at his residence in Edgewood after a brief illness. He was forty-six years of age. Larry is survived by his parents, Jack and Gladys Tinker of Manchester; special friend, Linda Jennings of Cedar Rapids; five siblings, Sharon Tinker of Houston, Texas, Gene Tinker of Edgewood, Randy (Diane) Tinker of Des Moines, Dennis (Susan) Tinker of Johnston, and Phyllis Tinker of Ankeny; four nephews, Logan, Spencer, Jacob and Ben Tinker; and one niece, Peyton Tinker. Larry was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ed and Margaret Tinker; and his maternal grandparents, Al and Agnes Manternach.

Larry enjoyed farming, hunting, bowling, golfing and good times with friends. He was Secretary Treasurer of Prairie Gold LLC, a weaned pig production facility. He was active in 4-H, FFA, and assisted with Delaware County Hog Shows. He also was a member of the pork producers grill team, he was on the Delaware County Extension Council, he was serving on the Silver Edge Co-op Board of Directors, and various committees for the Iowa Pork Producers Association. Larry was a past mini wrestling coach, past board member and president of the Delaware County Pork Producers, and past Board member of the Greeley Commercial Club. He also received the Iowa Farmer Degree and was a master pork producer.

Ermina Rose Starr

Ermina Rose was born icon on August 12, 1937, in Colesburg to Harry and Mable (Hook) Morley. She was raised and educated in the area attending local school. She was married to James E. Starr on June 30, 1956, at Edgewood, Iowa. Three children were born icon to this union. Together they resided in Cedar Rapids, Maquoketa, and since 1962 Ryan, Iowa. Ermina was a homemaker over the years. Ermina passed away at her home on Tuesday, October 11, 2005, following a brief illness. She was sixty-eight years of age. Survivors include her husband, James E. Starr of Ryan; two daughters, Rose Starr and Ken Clemen of Springville, and Peggy Starr and Chris Allen of Manchester; one son, James A. Starr and his wife Tammy of Manchester. One grandson, Travis Brown and his wife Samantha of Marion; three great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Cheyenne and Ashley; and three sisters, Melvina Chettinger of Guttenberg, Mary Ballard of Blossom, TX, and Ruth Easton of Strawberry Point. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Mable Morley; one granddaughter, Nakiah Sue; two sisters, Maxine Hanson and Mae Keck; and one brother, Donald Morley.

She will be remembered as one who enjoyed her family, crocheting, and watching television.
