Cletus was born icon on April 26, 1921, near Cascade, Iowa to Louis and Mathilda (Martesen) Sauser. He was raised and educated in the area attending rural school. Cletus and his mother moved to Hopkinton to reside after his father’s death. He worked as an electrician for Harris Electric in Hopkinton for many years. They later moved to Manchester where Cletus worked for Lynch Roofing. Cletus was united in marriage to Marie Grief on October 8, 1977 in Manchester. Together they resided in Manchester. Marie died July 22, 1990. Cletus entered the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester in August of 2003. Cletus died at the Good Neighbor Home, Monday, September 12, 2005. He was eighty-four years of age. Cletus was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manchester. He will be remembered as one who enjoyed going to church dinners and his car. Cletus is survived by several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Cletus was preceded in death by his wife; parents; one brother, Kenneth Sauser; and one sister, Pauline Hogan.

Virgil Brockmeyer, 78, passed away at the Edgewood Convalescent Home on Sunday morning, September 11, 2005, following a short illness. Born to Milton and Amber (Hansel) Brockmeyer on November 27, 1926, he was a life long resident of the Colesburg community. In 1944, he graduated from Colesburg High School where he was active in many school activities such as band, basketball and baseball. He played on the baseball team in 1943 when they took second in the state tournament and was named an all state third baseman. In 1945, he went into the U.S. Navy and was trained as a radioman. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor in WWII when the peace agreement with Japan was signed. He then spent the better part of a year serving in the South Pacific. In June of 1949, at the Zion Methodist Church, he married his high school sweetheart, Janet Schenke and two children were born icon to this union, a son, Jan and a daughter, Gina.Upon his return from the Navy, he farmed and in 1956, was appointed the rural letter carrier for the Colesburg rural delivery route. He carried that route, a job he loved, no matter the weather or road conditions for 30 years. Being active in his church and his community was a big part of his life. He served in many capacities for the Methodist church in Colesburg, including several terms on the administrative board as well as numerous other committees. He was a 50 year Mason, a 50 year Legion member, was Commander of the post at the time of his death, and nearly a 50 year member of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association. He was also a member of the Dubuque chapter of Narfe, the Cedar Rapids Consistory, and the Minnehaha Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and served on the Colesburg Fire Department. Dad loved to fish, care for his lawn, share in his grandchildren's activities, putter around with many projects and help where he felt he was needed, he had a constant concern for his fellowman. He lived life to its fullest and will be sadly missed not only by his family, but by any who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Janet, Colesburg; his son Jan and wife Terry, Cedar Rapids; his daughter, Gina and husband Bryan Hanna, Mason City and four grandchildren whom he adored, Kyle and Joel Brockmeyer, Cedar Rapids and Lauren and Alex Hanna and Alex's friend, Amy Schrader, Mason City; his brother, Rev. Myron and Delpha Brockmeyer, Waterloo and their two children, Diane and Mark. All of us were thankful and felt blessed to have shared in his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Amber and two sisters-in-law, Donna Reynolds and Ruth Lanning.

Gladys Evelyn Geraghty, 73, of Monona, died Sunday, September 4, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, following a long illness. She was born icon February 9, 1932, near Waukon to Elmer and Alvina (Klein) Flage. She graduated from Waukon High School in 1951. She was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Geraghty in October of 1960. They made their home in Monona, where Gladys worked for the Monona School District in food service for many years. She also worked as a waitress and did cooking for various restaurants over the years and retired from Monona Wire. She had a soft spot in her heart for all animals. Survivors include her step-daughter, Kathy Pixler, Monona; two sisters-in-law, Eileen Geraghty, Dubuque and Jeanne Geraghty, Tulsa, OK; super special friends, Edwin and Linda Roberts, Monona; several nephews and many other friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bob on October 23, 1972, a sister, Violet Titus, a step-son, Michael Geraghty and a brother-in-law, Don J. Geraghty.

Patricia Ann Johnson, 63, Elkader, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2005, following a lengthy illness. She was born icon October 31, 1941, to Ira and Irene Moody in McGregor. Pat graduated from McGregor High School, attended the University of Wisconsin in Lacrosse, and then worked at Northwest Airlines. Pat went back to college at the University of Upper Iowa and was one class short of graduating at the time of her death. Pat was united in marriage to Jim Johnson on November 7, 1964. One child, Robert, was born icon in 1966. Pat and Jim made their home in Elkader. Pat had two grandchildren, Samuel and Abigail. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. Pat loved to spend time with her family and friends, attending plays and movies, and collecting Elvis memorabilia. She enjoyed traveling and enjoyed her trips to California with Jim to see the grandkids and to the Wisconsin Dells with her nieces and nephews. Pat spent her summers boating on the Mississippi River and enjoyed attending Iowa Football games in the fall. Survivors include her husband Jim, Elkader; son Robert, daughter-in-law Karen, and grandchildren, Sam and Abby, San Clemente, CA; brother, Kirk, Williamson and sister, Kathryn, Ames. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Irene Moody, McGregor.

Grace Irene Brady, 84, of Greeley died Saturday evening, September 3, 2005, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home following a long illness. She was born icon May 10, 1921, near Dundee to Asa and Georgianna (Elsbury) Kelley. She graduated from Dundee High School. She was united in marriage to Cecil Brady on April 23, 1949, in Manchester. They made their home in the Greeley area with their three children. Grace and Cecil owned and operated Brady Grocery in Greeley for nearly thirty years before retiring in 1988. Survivors include her husband, Cecil Brady, Greeley, her children, Terry (Doris) Brady, Greeley, and their children, Melanie (Adam) Helmrichs and Wade Brady, Doris (Bruce) Schenke, Colesburg, and their children, Brian Olmstead, Eric (Ginny) Olmstead, Nathan Olmstead, Cory Schenke and Jason Schenke, Mark (Nancy) Brady, Guttenberg, and their children, Ben Brady, Brandon Brady, Stanley Bockenstedt and Jessica Bockenstedt and two brothers, Vernon (Verna) Kelley, Arlington and Floyd Kelley, Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Esther Winistorfer and Doris Winistorfer and three brothers, Vernon, Delbert and Harold Kelley.

Harry H. Delahooke, 92, of McGregor, formerly of Monona and St. Olaf, died Saturday, September 3, 2005, at the Great River Care Center in McGregor following a long illness. He was born icon May 29, 1913, in McGregor to Harry A. and Ida A. (Pederson) Delahooke. He attended school in the Monona area, and graduated from the University of Iowa. Harry resided in New York for a couple of years and moved back to the Monona area. He spent much of his life at Scenic Acres; where in the earlier years worked the Clayton Co. farm there. In October of 2003, he moved to the Great River Care Center. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Edward Joseph DeShaw, 44, Elkader, left his earthy home to join his heavenly father and his loved ones who preceded him on Saturday, August 27, 2005, at Central Community Hospital, Elkader. He was born icon January 20, 1961, in Manchester to Francis and Donna (Hilbert) DeShaw. Ed graduated from Central Community High School in 1979. He was united in marriage to Donna Elaine Bente on June 18, 1983. Two children were born icon to this union, Adam 19 and Allison 14. Ed was currently employed by Osmundson Livestock, Volga and was previously employed by Fitzgerald Surge, Elkader. He was a member of the Elkader Volunteer Fire Department since 1996, where he held the rank of Captain and Secretary/Treasurer. Through the years he volunteered as an EMT driver and helped coach numerous activities. He was an avid hunter, which he enjoyed with his son, family and the "Wards Coyote Hunting Team". Ed enjoyed camping, bow hunting, playing cards and games, golfing, the Chicago Cubs and Bears, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He always enjoyed playing Fantasy Football with his brother-in-law, Jeff. Ed was a loving father and his kids were his prized possession. Ed never had a prouder moment then when he was watching or talking about his kids. Playing with the beloved family dog, Holly was another of his favorites.Ed was well known for his sense of humor, his instigation of pranks, the challenge of building the biggest campfire, and his love of the annual deer camp. Because of his loving nature, kids always were drawn to him and him to them. Survivors include his wife, Donna, Elkader; his children, Adam DeShaw, Waterloo and Allison DeShaw, Elkader; parents, Donna and Francis DeShaw, Elkader; brothers and sister, Dennis (Linda) DeShaw, Pocahontas, AR, Linda (Chris) Widmar, Centerville, Ron (Kandi) DeShaw, Monona and Tim DeShaw, Independence, MO; paternal grandmother, Virginia DeShaw, Strawberry Point; mother-in-law, Kate Bente, Elkader; brother-in-law, Jeff (Julie) Bente, Manchester; sister-in-laws, Linda (Gregg) Frieden, Elkader, Janis (Dwight) Rodas, Littleport, Sandra Berger, Volga; Carol (Denny) Koppes, Dubuque and many nieces, nephews and friends. Ed was preceded in death by his brother, Dave DeShaw, paternal grandfather, Duane DeShaw; maternal grandparents, Minnie and Walter Schmitt; father-in-law, Lloyd Bente; brother-in-law, Jim Berger and one nephew, Brandon Widmar
