Jerry B. Heisler, age 56 of Marengo, died Sunday, January 3, 2010 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital from lung cancer. Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 9, 2010, First Lutheran Church, rural Conroy, with Pastor Don K. Dovre officiating. Inurnment will be in Mound City, SD at a later date. Friends may call at the church after 9:00 A.M. on Saturday. A memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by his beloved friend Gloria Martinson Burgy of Marengo; two sons, Jason Heisler and Jesse (Shelly) Heisler of Pierre, S.D.; a daughter Lonna Heisler of Des Moines, IA; and three grandsons, Benjamin, Noah and Levi Heisler. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother in infancy. Jerry was compassionate with animals, and leaves behind to mourn his loss his faithful pal Henry the cat.
Jerry Ben Heisler was born July 17, 1953 in Mobridge, SD, the son of Benjamin and Martha Steiger Heisler. He received his education in the Mound City schools and graduated from Herreid High School in 1971. Jerry married Debra Seiler in July of 1972. The couple later divorced. While living in South Dakota Jerry served as the Campbell County Assessor and also farmed. He moved to Williamsburg, IA in 1995 and was employed at Black and Decker at Tanger Outlet Mall. He also worked at the Williamsburg Care Center. In 2007, Jerry moved to Marengo where he was employed at Pamida and also helped at Colony Village Restaurant in Little Amana. He was a handyman and jack-of-all-trades. He was always willing to help family, friends, and neighbors. He was a perfectionist in every task that he undertook. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed perfecting his craft with his good friend Art Johnson.

Rollin “Bill” Hawkins, age 60, died Friday, January 1, 2010 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services: 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Visitation: 4 to 6 P.M. Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at a later date. A memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by a son Blaine Hawkins (Kelsey) of Ladora; a daughter Melinda Hawkins (Sean) of Marengo; a sister Rosemary Noyes of Marengo and two brothers, Russ of Marengo and Roger (April) of Altoona. He was preceded in death by a brother Robert and a nephew Charles Noyes.
Rollin William Hawkins was born March 15, 1949 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Robert and Lorna Shaull Hawkins. He received his education in the Iowa County schools and graduated from Iowa Valley High School in 1969. Bill was an auto mechanic and also farmed.

Maxine Gail Driscoll, age 78, was called home to God, Monday, April 6, 2009 at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City. Funeral Liturgy: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, April 9, 2009, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Burial: St. Michael’s Cemetery, Holbrook. Visitation: 3 to 8 P.M. Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at St. Mary’s Hall, Williamsburg, with a Rosary recited at 2:30 P.M. and a Vigil Service at 7:30 P.M. Memorials may be contributed to Friends of St. Michael’s, 200 W. Maple St., Williamsburg, Iowa 52361.
Survivors include eleven children: Mike (friend Becky), Williamsburg, Bob (Linda), Williamsburg; Terry (Julie), Amana, Chris Jenkins (Tom), Lee’s Summit, MO, Connie Driscoll-Wicke (Ian), Iowa City, Dan (Jami), Council Bluffs, Kenneth (friend Hara), Iowa City, Judy Stahl (Gary), Williamsburg, Jeff (Laura), Council Bluffs, Mark (friend Peggy), Council Bluffs, and Mary Johnstone, (Ted), Angola, IN; fourteen grandchildren, Carisa (friend Jeff), Larry (Leah), Cameron (Stacey), Keelan, Chad (Jodie), Darcy Rich (Perry), Gina Brummel (Pat), Jacob and Evan Stahl, Adam and Grant Jenkins, Austin and Ryan Wicke, Sara Johnstone and 9 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Virgil Goodman (Betty), and Larry Goodman (Vellie); sister Shirley Shafar (Bob), brother-in-law, Tom Driscoll (Helen), sister-in-law, Catherine Markee, and many nieces and nephews. Maxine’s family and friends were very special to her and we will all hold a very special place in our hearts for her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Pat in 1971, her parents, granddaughter Emma Johnstone, three brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law.
Maxine Gail was born June 29, 1930 in Millersburg, Iowa, the daughter of Andy and Essie Morrison Goodman. She graduated from Millersburg High School in 1948 and married Pat Driscoll January 27, 1951 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Holbrook, Iowa. The family eventually settled in the town of Holbrook with all of their wonderful neighbors and attended church across the street from their house. Maxine was employed as a cook at area restaurants, including Colony Village and 7-Villages. She retired from the University of Iowa in 1992 where she was a cook at Burge Hall for many years. Maxine has enjoyed the past years going to dances, playing her saxophone for community events and entertaining many residents of area nursing homes.
Maxine’s greatest joy was spending time with her loved ones whether on the phone or in person having long conversations. She was a very strong woman that endured good times and bad and always in a very caring and generous way. “We cannot see her, but she is with us still. A mother like ours is more than a memory. She is a living presence.”

Wilhelmine Goltz, age 97 of Middle Amana, died Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Colonial Manor of Amana following an extended illness. Funeral services: 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana, with Elder Peter Hoehnle officiating. Burial will be in the Middle Amana Cemetery, Middle Amana. Friends may call from 4 to 6 P.M. Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at the Middle Church. Memorials may be contributed to the Amana Church Society or Essence of Life Hospice. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is in charge of arrangements.
Wilhelmine is survived by her son, Ron Goltz of Amana, and a daughter Patricia Cahill (Tony) of St. Petersburg Beach, FL.; 5 grandchildren, Jon (Tara) Childers of Middle Amana, Tonnia James (Mike) of Milwaukee, WI, Jereme Goltz of Florence, CO, Brittany Weiss (Todd) of Cedar Rapids, and Abby Goltz of Amana; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leonard, and a brother Gustav Hergert.
Wilhelmine Hergert was born August 17, 1911 in Middle Amana, Iowa, the daughter of Gustav and Mina Kraus Hergert. She received her education in the Amana schools and worked in the communal kitchens until 1932. She married Leonard Charles Goltz October 20, 1944 in Louisiana while he was on assignment for Amana Refrigeration. Besides being a homemaker, she also worked at Amana Refrigeration, Amana Woolen Mill and the Amana Furniture Shop, retiring in 1976. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers and being an “Oma”.

Donald D. “Knuckles” Knock, age 74, of Marengo, died Sunday, March 1, 2009 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, March 5, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Marengo with Rev. Katie Dawson officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by Marengo American Legion Post #76. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to the First United Methodist Church, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
He is survived by his wife Mary; a son Craig and wife Pam of Toledo, IA, a daughter, Christy Zieser and husband Nick of Marengo, five grandchildren, McKenna and Mitchell Knock, and T.J. and Nate Zieser, and Paige Little; his siblings, Robert Knock and wife Marcia of Minnetonka, MN, Joanne Custer of Newton, Larry Knock and wife Karlene of Sperry, Gerald Knock and wife Brenda of Tiffin, and Karen Schmitz and husband Mike of Marengo; brother-in-laws Ervin Walters of Marengo, and Duane Tackaberry and wife Sherry of Panama City Beach, FL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Marilyn Walters, a brother Jerry in infancy and a brother-in-law, Richard Custer.
Donald Dean Knock was born November 23, 1934 in Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Ervin H. and Rachel R. Parry Knock. He graduated from Marengo High School with the class of 1953. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and was stationed at Fort Riley, KS. Upon his return, Don was employed with Marengo Ready Mix for over 40 years. He was united in marriage to Mary Lee Tackaberry on June 30, 1962 in Fort Madison, Iowa and the couple resided in Marengo from that time.
Donald was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marengo, the Marengo American Legion Post #76, the Iowa County Historical Society, and the NRA. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and the Iowa Hawkeyes and above all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Connie A. Storck, age 70 of Marengo, died Sunday, March 15, 2009 at her home following a brief illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Friday, March 20, 2009 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Jim Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday, March 19, 2009 at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Marilyn Mouchka (Dan) of Victor, and Brenda Sedlacek of Marengo; 4 sons, Richard Zuber (Tracey) of Fountain Valley, CA, Raymond Storck Jr. (Jennifer) of Scottsdale, AZ, Lonnie Storck of Marengo, and Dan Storck of West Des Moines; 8 grandchildren, Bryant Westfall of Amana, Chad Cronbaugh and fianceé Ashley Housman of Cedar Rapids, Caleb Cronbaugh of South Amana, Jordan, Travis, and Taylor Storck of Marengo, Becky and Ryan Storck of Scottsdale, AZ; 2 great-granddaughters, Karyssa and Addysyn Westfall, and special friends, Diana, Iris and Rose. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Raymond L. Storck
Constance Ann Wallen was born March 8. 1939 in North English, Iowa, the daughter of Merlyn and Lois Mitchell Griffen. She graduated from North English High School in 1958. She worked for REA (Rural Employment Alternative Inc.) in Conroy, and at Amana Refrigeration. She married Raymond L. Storck on March 8, 1980 in Marengo. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and was an avid fan of Nascar driver Kasey Kahne #9. Connie spent much of her time caring for her friends and neighbors. She was a loving individual who put others before herself.

Charles E. Moyer, age 74 of Brooklyn, died Thursday, March 4, 2010 at St. Francis Manor, Grinnell, Iowa. Memorial Services: 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 8, 2010, Calvary Baptist Church, Grinnell with Pastor Don Johnston and Pastor Joe Hayes officiating. Visitation: 10:00 until service time at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials may be contributed to Grinnell Hospice, the House of Prayer Church in Centerville, IA and Calvary Baptist Church in Grinnell. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn is in charge of arrangements.
Charles is survived by a brother Robert Reeve of Delaware, AR, two sisters, Betty Adkinson and Alice Boyd of Dardanelle, AR and a brother-in-law Tom Jones of Horseshoe Bend, AR and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is a special friend Marlene Carter of Brooklyn. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Hazel Jones.
Charles Eugene Moyer was born March 14, 1935 in Iowa City, Iowa. He was the son of Edith Ester Reeve Moyer. He married Betty Anne on June 22, 1974 in Burlington, Iowa. The couple later divorced. Charles met Marlene Carter in July 2004 through a Christian dating organization. He moved to Brooklyn in October 2004 from Drakesville, IA. They began attending Calvary Baptist Church in 2005. Charles was a past member of the Burlington Lions and the Jaycees. He enjoyed woodworking and model trucks and trains.
Charles developed a love for trains which grew from his job hauling train crews from Osceola to Kansas City. He also enjoyed horses, and collected many figurines and photos. Before he settled in Brooklyn, he drove a van for the Amish settlements. He really enjoyed the people and received many phone calls asking for him after he quit. Charles loved the Lord and spent many hours reading the Bible and filling notebooks with his thoughts. One of his bibles was completely filled with these thoughts in red ink. He enjoyed men’s Bible Study and breakfast at the Westside Diner.

Leona M. McCaw, age 94, of Marengo, died Monday, March 1, 2010, at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo. Funeral Services: 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 6, 2010 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo with Rev. Douglas Morton officiating. Visitation: 4-7 P.M Friday, March 5, 2010 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Interment will be in the Marengo Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
Leona is survived by her husband Norman of 70 years; three sons: N. James “Jim” McCaw of Blairstown, Dennis “Denny” (Laura) McCaw of Tiffin, and Don (Edie) McCaw of Dike; a daughter Jeanene (Casey) Miller of Hudson, WI; nine grandchildren: Kory (Carol) McCaw of Sierra Vista, AZ, Chet (Brenda) McCaw of Marengo, Vince (Jen) McCaw of San Diego, CA, Ryan (Pat) McCaw of Eldridge, Joel McCaw of Tiffin, Chadd (Tiny) McCaw of Ames, Vance (Teppy) McCaw of Waterloo, WI, Nicole (Jerry) Leach of Lindstrom, MN, and Staci Dietrich of Norfolk, VA and a step-grandson Eric (Dayna) Miller of Marlton, NJ; and fifteen great-grandchildren, Lindsey Anderson (Yung) Tucson, AZ, Amber and Blake McCaw of Marengo, Andrew and Carly McCaw, San Diego, CA, Lily and Sydney McCaw of Eldridge, IA, Dayton McCaw of Tiffin, Cameron McCaw of Ames, Rowan and Lane McCaw of Waterloo, WI, Addison and Grant Leach of Lindstrom, MN, and Tayler and Ethan Miller of Marlton, NJ. She is also survived by two nieces: Marian Tanke and Donna Weisskopf.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Opal.
Leona Marie Gant was born January 10, 1916 in Iowa City, IA the daughter of Wallace and Bessie Pearl Underhill Gant. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1933 and married Norman McCaw on June 30, 1939 in Marengo. Leona was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo and St. John’s Ladies Aide. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, spending time with family, and sending cards to friends, family, acquaintances, and occasionally to strangers that she read or heard about.

Evelyn Mae Thompson Eggert Gorsh, age 87, of Marengo, formerly of Ladora, Iowa, died Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, March 3, 2010, First Presbyterian Church, Marengo with Rev. Jim Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Ladora Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to the Ladora United Methodist Church or Hospice Compassus.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters: Deanna Wade Cook (Bill) of Marengo, Dixie Moody (Jim) of Monticello, IL and Crystal Benscoter (Stratton “Whitey”) of Marengo; 8 grandchildren: Johnnette Kruse (Tim) of Williamsburg, Audra VanBennekom (Doug) of Marengo, Jeffrey Wade of Williamsburg, Sara Jo Benscoter of Marengo, David Moody (Megan) of Lombard, IL, Eric Moody, Alex Moody and John Moody, all of Monticello, IL; and 5 great-grandchildren, Dakota and Chyanne Kruse, Kylie and Brittany VanBennekom, and Sydney Wagner. Also surviving are a sister Janice Davis (Kenneth) of Ladora, a brother-in-law, Maynard Moser of Richland Center, WI, and a special step-daughter Dorothy Wade (Larry) and family of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, a daughter, Juanita in infancy, a son-in-law John Wade, a great-grandson, Riley Wagner, two sisters: Lucille Thompson and Marjorie Moser, and a brother Melvin Thompson.
Evelyn Mae Thompson was born April 29, 1922, near Ladora, in Iowa County, Iowa, the daughter of James and Virginia Maude Scully Thompson. She received her education in the Iowa County schools and graduated from Ladora High School in 1939. She attended the Iowa State Teachers’ College in Cedar Falls and received a teaching certificate. She returned to teach in the rural Iowa County schools.
Evelyn married Dean Eggert on February 4, 1944 in Ladora, Iowa. To this union four daughters were born. Dean died February 2, 1978. Evelyn married Vernon Gorsh on December 9, 1978 in Ladora. He died February 7, 1995. Evelyn was a long time member of the Ladora Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and also taught Sunday school for many years until suffering a stroke in 1993. She had since made her home at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo.
