Dorothy C. McBride, age 91, formerly of Williamsburg, died Friday, March 30, 2012 at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo. Funeral Mass: 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 4, 2012, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Muscatine, IA. Visitation: 5 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at St. Mary’s Parish Hall, Williamsburg with a Scripture Service at 8 P.M. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathleen McBride of Muscatine; two sons, Doug McBride (BethAnn) of Washington, and Craig McBride of Williamsburg; a daughter-in-law Sheila McBride of Marengo; five grandchildren, Rick, Timothy, Jacob, Reif and Rebecca McBride; a great-grandson, William Joseph McBride; and her dog “Pups”. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clement, two brothers, William at birth, and Robert, and a sister, Gertrude Martin.
Dorothy Catherine was born November 29, 1920 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of William Mich and Catherine Weber Mich. She attended elementary school in Oskaloosa and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Muscatine. Dorothy was united in marriage to Clement McBride on December 14, 1946 in Muscatine, Iowa. The couple moved to Williamsburg in 1971 where Dorothy was employed as a cook at the Landmark Restaurant. Clement died December 22, 1978. Dorothy moved to Marengo in 2006, residing at Lafayette Lodge, and later Rose Haven Nursing Home.
Dorothy was a feisty little lady who brought great joy to all who knew her. Her greatest joys in life were her family, especially her grandchildren and her dogs.

Mary Elizabeth Honnold, age 90 of Iowa City, Iowa, died Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital, Marengo, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, Iowa where the family will receive friends after 12:00 noon. Inurnment will be in Clearfield Cemetery, Clearfield, Iowa. Memorials may be contributed to the University of Iowa Foundation in Mary’s name. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
Mary is survived by her sons, Dr. Charles Honnold of Iowa City, IA and Mark Honnold (Lois) of Kimberling City, MO; a daughter Mary Christina Yunker (Stephen) of Maui, HI; six grandchildren, Jeff Honnold of Pittsburg, PA, Erik Christopher Yunker (Linda) of Mesa AZ, Brent Honnold (Amanda) of Nevada, IA, Julia Maldonado of Wood Village, OR, James Yunker of Makawao, HI and Christina Yunker of San Francisco, CA; and five great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles Arthur Honnold, and a sister Louise Mogck.
Mary Elizabeth Berg was born June 27, 1921 in Clearfield, Iowa, the daughter of Robert Gustav Berg and Dolly Stamper Berg. She graduated from Clearfield High School as valedictorian of the Class of 1938. She attended Creston Junior College for 2 years and the University of Iowa for a year. Mary was united in marriage to Charles Arthur Honnold on June 12, 1942 in Creston Iowa. She enjoyed music, both piano and vocal, and was an avid reader. Her husband Charles served in the U.S. Army for 2 years during World War II, with signal corps attaining a Corporal T-5 rank. Mary remained stateside. While living in Iowa City, Mary served as a volunteer at the patient library at the University of Iowa Hospital and was a patient advocate at the Veterans Hospital, both in Iowa City. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by her family and friends.

Elizabeth I. Rhinehart, age 69 of Brooklyn, died Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center, Grinnell. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 16, 2012, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn with Fr. Brian Shepley officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn. Visitation: 4 to 7:30 P.M. Friday, June 15, 2012 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, with a Scripture Service at 7:30 P.M. A memorial fund has been established.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband Paul; her children, Jeffrey (Janet) of Brooklyn, Lisa Flamme (Mark) of Gladbrook, Julie Bracy (David) of Brooklyn, Christopher (Heidi) of Colfax, Amy Van Ersvelde (Jeremy) of Brooklyn, and Paula White (Trevor) of Brooklyn; and sixteen grandchildren, Vanessa, Sarina, Keaton Rhinehart, Nicholas, Taylor and Logan Flamme, Chase, Tyler and Nathan Bracy, Jason Rhinehart, Jordan, Baylee, Rylie and Ian Van Ersvelde, and Mitchell and Conner White. Also surviving are her mother, Ferne Cline of Brooklyn, two brothers, Larry Cline and George Cline (Jane) both of Brooklyn; and two sisters, Patricia Miles (Dennis) of Atkins and Brenda Cline (Scott) of Grinnell.
Her father Francis Cline preceded her in death.
Elizabeth Irene Cline was born May 18, 1943 in Grinnell, Iowa, the daughter of Francis Cline and Ferne Smith Cline. She graduated from BGM High School with the class of 1961. Elizabeth married Paul Rhinehart on July 7, 1962. Elizabeth was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and hosting for the holidays. She actively volunteered at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, for the Meals on Wheels program and at the Brooklyn Activity Center. She spent her quiet time doing crossword puzzles and enjoying her flowers and animals. She enjoyed playing cards and bowling. Elizabeth loved her children and grandchildren, and cherished every moment spent with them, especially when they all gathered every Sunday evening at her home for supper.

Wanda L. Wagner, age 86 of Blairstown, died Sunday evening, June 10, 2012 at her home. Her body was cremated. Per her wishes, there will be no services. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting her family.
Wanda is survived by her sons, Jon Wagner (wife Sheila) of Centerville, Iowa, and Monte Wagner (wife Monica) of Blairstown; her daughter Dana Wagner of North Liberty; a special family friend, Linda Roth of North Liberty; a grandson, three granddaughters, two step grandsons, two step-granddaughters, and a great-granddaughter. Also surviving are a brother, Charles “Bud” Walrod (wife Lee) of Des Moines, and a sister Carolyn “Sally” Vedda of Tucson, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Martha Lund Walrod, her husband John, and a granddaughter.
Wanda Lorraine Walrod Wagner was born June 25, 1925 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Martha Lund Walrod. She attended Clarkson Elementary, Warren Harding Jr. High, and North High School in Des Moines, graduating in 1943. Wanda was united in marriage to John H. Wagner on February 9, 1946 in Des Moines. Besides being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Wanda worked as a secretary in the Coe College Admissions Office for twenty years. She enjoyed plants and flowers, and was an avid bird enthusiast.

Brandon Jon Miller, age 35 of Davis, California, formerly of Brooklyn, died Monday, June 4, 2012. Memorial Services: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, June 9, 2012, First Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn, with Rev. John Reynolds, Jr. officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 P.M. Friday, June 8, 2012 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established.
Brandon is survived by his parents, Arlo and Marilyn Miller, of Brooklyn, brothers Chad (fiancee Nichole) of Urbandale, Matt of Brooklyn, and Jerrod (wife Michele) of Tiffin; nieces and nephews, Laynie and Owen Miller of Tiffin, and Jevohn and Shealynn Miller of Brooklyn.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Eldon and Virginia Miller, and Willis and Charlotte Pease.
Brandon Miller was born July 2, 1976 in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Arlo and Marilyn Pease Miller. He graduated from BGM High School in 1994. He was salutatorian of his graduating class. He graduated with honors from the University of Iowa in 1998 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Brandon was also a member of Phi Eta Sigma. He went to work with Caterpillar as a mechanical engineer in Peoria Heights, IL. While there, he was a member of the fire department and was also an EMT. He continued his education in Davis, California at the University of California at Davis. He was in the process of obtaining his doctorate in biological systems in engineering. He was employed in research at Davis, and previously had taught some classes. He trained EMT’s at Davis and had worked for the U.S. Forestry Service. Brandon was actively researching areas that would make the agriculture field easier on the human body, especially ergonomic equipment for organic farming. He was a member of the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church.

Margret J. “Peggy” Cooperider, age 92, of Marengo, died Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo. Funeral Services: 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 9, 2012, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Karmen Jamison, SACLS, officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Visitation: Kloster Funeral Home, from 4:30 - 7 P.M. Friday, June 8, 2012 and 1 hour prior to service on Saturday. Memorials may be directed to the family or Camp Courageous of Iowa.
She is survived by her two sons, Albert of Marengo and George (Arlene) of Omaha, NE; three grandchildren, Ellen Knier (Steve) of Grafton, WI, Mark Cooperider (Jungsun) of Keizer, OR, and David Cooperider (Mardi) of Omaha, NE; and three great-grandchildren, Spencer, Alaina and Marleigh Knier. Also surviving are a nephew Keith Newton of Norway and two nieces Bev Bieber and Pat Bunch, both of Cedar Rapids, besides many other nieces and nephews on both sides.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mina Trimble Newton, her husband Lawrence in 2006, a brother, James Newton and wife Betty, and a sister Berniece Bieber and husband Mel.
Margret Jane “Peggy” was born July 9, 1919 on the family farm north of Watkins, Iowa, to George A. and Mina Trimble Newton. She graduated from Norway High School in 1936 and married Lawrence A. Cooperider on June 16, 1940 at Norway, Iowa, the day of her parents’ 25th wedding anniversary. The couple farmed in the area for many years. Bus and Peggy moved to their cottage on the Iowa River near Iowa City when their youngest son left for college. Then they relocated to Horseshoe Bend, AR. Thirty-five years ago they returned to Marengo.
Peggy belonged to Rebekahs, Eastern Star, the Garden Club, and Ingleside Federated Club. In earlier years she was active in 4-H and served as a county president. Later she was a 4-H leader of the Marengo Busy Bodies.

Allan Ray Lester, age 63 of Aplington, formerly of Brooklyn, died Thursday, May 31, 2012 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center, Grinnell. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Monday, June 4, 2012 at the Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, with Rev. John Reynolds, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, Brooklyn. Visitation: 4 to 8 P.M. Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established.
Allan Ray Lester was born November 26, 1948 in Montezuma, Iowa, the son of Virgil and Dorothy McMahan Lester. He graduated from Montezuma High School with the class of 1967. He attended Iowa State University for two years. Al married Wanda Kasal on June 14, 1969, making their home in Brooklyn, Iowa. Three children were born to this marriage, Christopher Allan, Nichole Dawn and Nathan Luther. While living in Brooklyn, he was an active member of Ruritan Club and served several years on the BGM school board. He worked all of his years in marketing for various feed and seed companies. In 1992 they moved to Aplington. Following his retirement in 2011, he took a part time position of receptionist/ office manager of Nathan’s Chiropractic office in Grinnell. He loved being around people. Grinnell was where he found his extended family, several AA support groups. He was the old timer with 24 years of sobriety and was actually with this group when he crossed over.
Al loved music, attending sporting events of his children and grandchildren and traveling with his family. The last seven years of his life, he and Wanda spent several summer weeks in Hawaii—“their corner of Paradise”.
Allan is survived by his wife Wanda of Aplington; a daughter Nichole Lebeda and husband Mike of Urbandale; a son Nathan Lester of Grinnell; grandsons, Ethan Lebeda, Noah Lebeda and Briar Lester; a sister Barb Ku of Riverside, CA, three special sisters-in-law, Catherine McCluskey of Cedar Rapids, Pam Bannon of Marion and Amy Kirkey of West Branch; along with many nieces nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher in 1976, his dad Virgil Lester in 1985, his mom, Dorothy Lester in 2009, father-in-law Melvin Kasal in 2003, his mother-in-law Rozelle Kasal in 2008. They are all there to welcome him Home.

Waunetta Marie Fruendt, age 87, of Williamsburg, died Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Graveside Memorial Services: 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 4, 2012, at the Victor Memorial Cemetery, Victor, Iowa, with Rev. Richard Meyer officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be contributed to the Holden Cancer Center, University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
Waunetta Marie Johnson was born August 21, 1924 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer H. Johnson and Blanche E. Besco Johnson. She received her elementary education in the Mahaska county schools and graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1941. Waunetta married Keith Minard in 1942. He was killed while fighting during World War II. Waunetta worked at Consolidated Aircraft in San Diego, CA. during that time. She returned to Iowa in 1945. Waunetta was united in marriage to Melvin L. Fruendt on November 7, 1946 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Victor, Iowa. The couple farmed for many years, retiring in 1990. They moved into Williamsburg at that time. She was employed as a cashier and hostess and several Little Amana businesses. Melvin died in 1999. Waunetta enjoyed quilting, and most recently was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Williamsburg.
Waunetta is survived by a niece, two grand-nephews, a grand-niece, and several great-grand-nephews and great-grand-nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, a sister Bernice Watts, and brother-in-law Keith Watts and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Lindenmayer.

Kathryn Lee “Kathy” Kahler, age 52 of Marengo, died Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, from complications of cancer. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Trinity United Church of Christ, rural Marengo. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 P.M. Friday, June 1, 2012, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Kathy is survived by her husband Rick; two daughters, Briana Schmidt (Mike) of Williamsburg, and Abby Van Dee (Sid) of Deep River; five grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Logan and Jonathan Schmidt, and Kahler and Keyan Van Dee. Also surviving are her mother, Joanne Foley (John) of Montour, and her two sisters, Faye Jenkins (Rick) of Des Moines, and Jeanne Kasal (Steve) of Williamsburg, her mother-in-law Gerry Kahler (Lee) of Amana and a sister-in-law Robin Brecht (Doug) of Blairstown. She was preceded in death by her father, her grandparents, and her father-in-law, Russell Kahler.
Kathryn Lee Peters was born December 11, 1959 in Marengo, Iowa, the daughter of Richard Lee and Joanne Lee Kurtz Peters. She graduated from Iowa Valley High School in 1978 and married Richard Kahler on May 19, 1979 at Trinity United Church of Christ, rural Marengo. Kathy was employed as an assembly person at Amana Refrigeration for 33 years. She was an avid Hawkeye fan and also enjoyed working outdoors on the flowers and landscaping. She loved her children and grandchildren and cherished her time with them.
