Richard L. Lindenmayer, age 91 of Marengo, died Monday, December 22, 2014, at the Marengo Memorial Hospital. Graveside Memorial Service: 3 P.M. Friday, January 2, 2015, at the Marengo Cemetery, with Rev. Andrew Gray officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Marengo American Legion Post 76 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Following the service, the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 P.M. Friday, January 2, 2015, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
Richard Lorenz Lindenmayer was born on June 4, 1923 in Marengo, the son of Ernest and Lila Smith Lindenmayer. He graduated in May 1941 from Marengo High School and spent the next year working for his father at the Lindenmayer grocery store. Richard began work for the U.S. Post Office the following year, enlisting in the Navy on January 13, 1943.
He was sent to the Great Lakes Training Center and stationed aboard the USS Winooski AO38 becoming a Radioman III Class. He participated in the invasion of Sicily and southern France, and invasion of Okinawa. His ship traveled through the Philippine Islands fueling the fleet and after the Japanese surrendered, his crew fueled Japan’s ships so they could go home. He was discharged on January 28, 1946, which was three years and 15 days to the hour of his enlistment.
Richard married Bonita Fruendt in Lincoln Township near Victor, Iowa on October 20, 1946. He returned to work at the U.S. Post Office in Marengo and was a city carrier, transferring to a rural route, and retiring in 1979 after 37 ½ years of government service. During his retirement, he began woodturning and made many beautiful pieces for his family and friends. He also made wooden signs large and small for area businesses and churches. Richard was a member of the Quad City Woodturners, Corridor Woodturners and the American Association of Woodturners. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo, the American Legion Post #76, and the V.F.W. For many years, Richard drove a school bus for the Iowa Valley Community School, transporting students to and from home, and for many activities. He was a lifelong resident of Marengo, until November 2010, when he moved to Highland Ridge in Williamsburg.
Richard is survived by three children: Suzanne (David) Riherd of Belle Plaine, IA, William (Skipper) Lindenmayer of LaSalle, CO, and June Lindenmayer of Steamboat Springs, CO; a granddaughter, Lisa (Trevor) Andersen of North Liberty; three grandsons, Darin Riherd of Belle Plaine, Brad Lindenmayer of Perkins, OK, and Brian Lindenmayer of Hauppauge, NY; four great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Lindenmayer of Marengo, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Bonita, his parents, and a brother Fred Lindenmayer.

Linda A. Cox, age 92 of Oxford, died Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Windmill Manor, Coralville, Iowa. Funeral Mass: 9:00 A.M. Monday, December 29, 2014, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Oxford with Fr. Edmond Dunn officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Oxford. Visitation: 3 to 7 P.M. Sunday, December 28, 2014, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Oxford with a Rosary recited at 4 P.M. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.
The family requests that those who attend the services to please wear something red signifying Linda’s favorite color.
Linda is survived by her six children, Janice McCalley (Mark) of Oxford, Ronald Cox (Colleen) of Oxford, Gerald Cox (Sandra) of Tiffin, Karen Meek (Duane) of Conroy, Nancy Kinney (Tim) of Oxford and Michael Cox (Jeanette) of Oxford; eleven grandchildren; and 18 great –grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Anna Rabe Ahlman, her husband Edward in 2008, two sisters, Adelia Tritt, and Lydia Holly, and two brothers, Fritz and Lawrence Ahlman.
Linda Ida Anna Ahlman was born September 26, 1922 in Pierce, Nebraska, the daughter of Emil and Anna Rabe Ahlman. She received her elementary and secondary education in the Nebraska schools. Linda married Edward Cox on July 3, 1944 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The couple eventually settled in the Oxford area where they farmed, and Linda operated a childcare service for several years. Linda was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford and the Altar and Rosary Guild.

Adolf J. Zuber, age 98 of Marengo, Iowa, died Monday, December 15, 2014 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, in Marengo. Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 22, 2014, Trinity Lutheran Church, Conroy with Rev. Gary Sears officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Conroy. The family will receive friends after 10 A.M. Monday, December 22, 2014, at the church. Memorials may be contributed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Conroy, or Essence of Life Hospice, in his name. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
Adolf is survived by his daughter Karen Esser and husband Robert of Marengo; three grandchildren, Rinda Shoup (Scott Wolfe) of Amana, Todd Esser (Christina) of Marengo, and Kelsie Ballard (Billy) of Marengo; 4 great-grandchildren, Lauren Shoup of Iowa City, Taylor Shoup of Minneapolis, MN, Brandon Shoup of Cedar Rapids, and Sidney Ballard of Marengo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy, a great grandchild, Lindsey Shoup, and his siblings, Ada Daenzer, Flora Butlin, Ervin Zuber, Frieda Zuber, Clarence Zuber and Reno Zuber.
Adolf John Zuber was born September 19, 1916 in Conroy, Iowa, the son of August and Kathrine Glandorf Zuber. He received his education at the Hilton School in Conroy, and married Dorothy Marie Cooperider on February 14, 1940 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The couple farmed for many years, most of that time in Iowa County. They moved from the farm to Marengo in 1980. Dorothy passed away December 2, 2003.

William L. Garringer, age 76 of Williamsburg, died Monday, December 15, 2014, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. Private family services will be held at Yankee Point Cemetery, Parnell, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be contributed to Mercy Hospital Hospice Program, Iowa City. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Darlyn of Williamsburg; three sons, Keith (Patty) of Williamsburg, Karey (Judy) of Iowa City; and Kevin (Kay) of Williamsburg; a daughter, Karmen (Kollin) Munson of Williamsburg; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren; a brother, James (Jeanne) of Williamsburg; a sister Betty Van Dee of Vining; a brother-in-law, Ramon Newkirk (Mary) of Riverside and a sister-in-law, Claudia Doehrmann (Lloyd) of Williamsburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Esta Brown Garringer, and five brothers, Howard Brown, and Keith, Orville, Ralph, and Vernon Garringer.
William Layton Garringer was born May 16, 1938 in Parnell, Iowa, the son of Carl L. and Esta Brown Garringer. He attended the Williamsburg schools and later received his GED. William married Darlyn Newkirk on October 21, 1956 in Williamsburg. He was employed as a lineman and supervisor with GTE General Telephone for 32 years, retiring from there.

Gerald H. Hudepohl, age 68 of Marengo, died Thursday, February 12, 2015 at his home. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2015, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo, with Rev. Andrew Gray officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at First Lutheran Cemetery, Conroy, Iowa. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, February 16, 2015, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established.
Gerald Harold Hudepohl was born December 20, 1946, in Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of Harold and Blanche Bahr Hudepohl. He attended Lutheran Interparish School in Williamsburg, and graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1964. He married Lori Enochson on September 30, 1972, in Marengo, Iowa. Gerald was employed by the Iowa County Secondary Road Department for 25 years. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities. He also collected and restored antique Oliver tractors.
Gerald is survived by his wife Lori; his children Brad (Tina) of Denver, CO, Jason (Michelle) of Marengo, Jarad (Joy Mohr) of Marengo, and Kandyce Smolik (Russ) of Marengo, Iowa; his grandchildren, Brayden, Kamy and Averee Hudepohl, Colton and Brody Hudepohl, and Claire and Hannah Smolik, all of Marengo. Also surviving are his siblings Don (Sharon) of Williamsburg, Barb Pope (Tom) Millersburg and Gary of Williamsburg. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Raymond F. DePauw, age 87, of Brooklyn, died February 9, 2015, in a motor vehicle accident. Funeral Mass: 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 16, 2015, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn, with Fr. Brian Shepley officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn, with military honors. Visitation: 3 to 6:30 P.M. Sunday, February 15, 2015, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn with a Scripture Service at 6:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be contributed to the East Poweshiek Ambulance Service, Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn or the charity of the donor’s choice.
Raymond Frederick DePauw was born April 22, 1927 in rural Poweshiek County, the son of Edmond and Blanche Hendricks DePauw. He attended the Poweshiek County rural schools and graduated from Brooklyn High School with the Class of 1945. He served in the U.S. Army. Raymond married Norma Roth on February 14, 1950 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brooklyn. To this union four children were born, Mike, Devran, Kathy and Bethany. Norma passed away on March 3, 1989. Raymond and Mary Coleman Cline were married on December 1, 1990 in Iowa City.
In his early years, Raymond worked at the Phillips 66 station, and with the Poweshiek County Road Department, retiring as a foreman in 1989. During this time Raymond ran his own company, DePauw Construction, designing and building ponds and terraces for several years.
He was a member of Brooklyn American Legion Post 294, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, was on the board of Calvary Cemetery, and was a weather spotter for KCRG. In his free time, Raymond enjoyed woodworking and having coffee with his many friends. He was very proud of his Belgium heritage.
Raymond is survived by his wife Mary; a son, Mike (Pauline) of Malcom, a daughter Kathy Gilliland of Cedar Rapids, three grandchildren, Joshua (Migdalia) Gilliland of Hiawatha, Mariah Gilliland of Cedar Rapids, and Laura (Josh) Nelson of Knoxville; great-grandchildren, Samuel and Santiago Gilliland, and Andrea, Freddie, and Nichole Nelson; a son-in-law Bruce Hamilton of Coggon; a brother Wally DePauw of Marion; a sister Donna Henning of Hartwick; and a sister-in-law Erma DePauw of Grinnell. Also surviving are step-children, Mary Jo (John) Upah of Brooklyn, Daniel (Barb) Cline of Colorado, Donald (Sharon) Cline of Texas, Virginia (Wayne) Arens of Brooklyn, Beth (Russ) VanRenterghem of Oskaloosa, and Ken (Jennifer) Cline of Brooklyn; along with numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Norma, two daughters, Devran DePauw, and Bethany Hamilton, and two brothers, Chuck and Marvin.

Kenneth Raymond Alexander, age 79 of Brooklyn, died at Brooklyn Community Estate on Friday, February 6, 2015. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, Iowa, with Rev. John Dodds officiating. Burial: Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation: 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, prior to the service. A memorial fund has been established.
Kenneth is survived by his wife Joan; his children Dixie Holland (John Frahm) of Brooklyn, Dolores Reynolds of Brooklyn, Kenneth Alexander Jr. (Sara) of Brooklyn, and Cindy VanRenterghem (Mike) of Brooklyn; ten grandchildren, Jeremy Holland (Aimee) of Brooklyn, Travis Alexander of Chicago, Nicole Reynolds of Brooklyn, Jesse VanRenterghem of Brooklyn, Nathan Alexander of Malcom, Tara Kramer (Chris) of Brooklyn, Colton Alexander of Iowa City, Cheyanne Packer (Ben) of Tama, Dalton Alexander of Brooklyn, and Emma Alexander of Brooklyn; and eight great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Holland of Brooklyn, Gaige Holland of Brooklyn, Kylee Holland of Brooklyn, Dillon Reynolds of Brooklyn, Domonic Kramer of Brooklyn, Gracie Kramer of Brooklyn, Abigail Spalding of Cedar Rapids, and Amarah Alexander of Grinnell. Also surviving are a brother Earl Alexander of Dubuque, and sisters Alice Heims of Lansing and Elanor Riley of Lamont.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Alexander in 1975, Mabel Alexander in 1974, a daughter Phyllis Alexander in 2008, and his siblings Charles Alexander in 1975, and June Ronnfeldt in 1984.
Kenneth Alexander was born February 15, 1935 in Waukon, Iowa, the son of Paul and Mabel Bolsinger Alexander. He attended the Allamakee County schools. He married Joan Bennett on May 28, 1954 in Caledonia, MN. He worked for Pete Minneart Construction as a bulldozer operator, and was a dirt foreman at Manatt's of Brooklyn for 33 years, retiring from there. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, wood working and welding.

Dale Robert Doty, age 63 of Brooklyn, Iowa, died Friday, January 30, 2015 at Brooklyn Community Estate, Brooklyn. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Private Family Memorial Services will be held at another time. A memorial fund has been established.
Dale is survived by two sons, Stephen (Sandi) of Shellsburg and Kevin (Jesica Miller-Julin) of Grinnell; and seven grandchildren, Alison, Colton, Shane, Maria, and Cora Doty of Shellsburg, and Teylor and Emma Doty of Grinnell. Also surviving are his siblings, Ross Doty of Brooklyn, Vivian King of Grinnell, Gladys Palmer of Cedar Rapids, Marvin (Mary) Doty of Grinnell, Joan Foster of Cedar Rapids, Lucille (Richard) King of Warr Acres, OK, and Kay Dieterich of Brooklyn, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Abel and Daryl Doty.
Dale Robert Doty was born August 22, 1951 in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Glenn Ross Doty and Pearl Lucille Jewell Doty. He received his education in the BGM schools. Dale worked at several jobs and in several places, including Miracle Playground Equipment, during his lifetime. He was a wonderful grandfather and spent much of his time with the grandchildren, and being involved in their lives. He liked John Wayne, fishing, mowing, playing board games and woodworking. He will be missed by his family and friends.
