Dorothy Jane Evans
WAYLAND — Dorothy Jane Evans, 81, of Dallas City, Ill., formerly of Wayland, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 4, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland with the Rev. Betsey Neipert officiating. The body will be cremated after the service. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service Friday, with the family present from 1 p.m. until service time. A memorial fund has been established for Finley Cemetery and Lee County Hospice.

Joseph Paul Kottenstette
COLUMBUS JUNCTION — Joseph Paul Kottenstette, 58, of Columbus Junction, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at his home after a battle with cancer.
A memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Columbus Junction.

Norman R. Miller
BETTENDORF — Norman R. Miller, 86, of Davenport, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at his home.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 21, at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Burial was at Davenport Memorial Park, where military rites will be held.

Bruce Mayo Reilly
LONE TREE — Bruce Mayo Reilly, 70, of Lone Tree, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, in Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree.

Gayle Bleadorn
Gayle Ann Bleadorn, 60, of Monticello, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services were held Nov. 17 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello. Burial: Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monticello with the Rev. Keith Birch officiating.
Gayle was born July 4, 1950, in Cascade, the daughter of Thomas and Aletha (Takes) Hughes. Gayle graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1968 and attended University College of Cosmetology in Iowa City. She married Billy "Brownie" Bleadorn on July 31, 1976, in Monticello. Gayle was self-employed as a beauty operator for 30 years. She also worked for MC Industries for 10 years. Billy and Gayle owned and operated Brownies Canoe Rental for several years. They enjoyed their yearly trips to the Old Thresher's Reunion.
Gayle was a very creative person who loved to sew and watch birds outside her kitchen window. Being the oldest of 13 children, Gayle was very motherly toward her siblings and was an excellent role model. Her loving smile and nurturing personality will be greatly missed. Gayle faced death as she did life, with dignity, humor, courage and concern for her family.
Gayle is survived by her devoted husband of 33 years, Billy; her mother, Aletha Hughes; 12 siblings, Russell (Danica) Hughes, Al Hughes, Gus (Julie) Hughes of Anamosa, Red (Joyce) Hughes, Mary Kay Hughes, Jann (Terry) Turnis, Lois J. Hughes of North Liberty, Rob Hughes, Rich (Suzy) Hughes of Delhi, Gary Hughes, Diane Hughes of Anamosa and Lisa (Adam) Gonzales of Austin, Texas; and nieces and nephews, Jenny (Matt) Lahr, Mikki (Kraig) Manternach, Angie (Tim) Fangmann, Jessica (Tom) Hunter, Justin Hunter, Jalyse (Corey) Hunter, Shannon (Brant) McElmeel, Jason McElmeel, Luke (Diane) McElmeel, Nic (Michelle) McElmeel, Lexi (Jon) Etringer, Travis Hughes, Nikki, Austin, and Dalton Hughes, Trevor and Elijah Hughes, Zac Martinsen, Jacob, Marina, and Joaquin Gonzales.
She was preceded in death by her father, Tom Hughes, in 2001.

Paul Bonnett
Paul Russell Bonnett, 90, of rural North Liberty, died peacefully in his sleep at home on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010. Military honors were provided at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville on Nov. 19. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web at www.gayandciha.com.
Survivors include his children, Karyl L. Bonnett of North Liberty, and DeWayne A. Bonnett of Strawberry Point; siblings William "Bill" K. Bonnett of Fresno, Calif., and Mary D. and Don Craft of Johnson, Iowa; grandchildren Stephanie M. of Troy Mills, Brenda V. of Pasadena, Calif., Jeffery D. of Alizo Viejo, Calif., Fareyd A. of North Liberty, Caleb J. of Hillsboro, Ore., Bethany J. of Cedar Falls, Tracy P. of North Liberty, and Rachel L. Kubik of Hawaii.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Ronald and Emma Jane Martindale; his wife, Virginia; and eldest son, Dennis Paul Bonnett.
Paul was born June 27, 1920, near Bussey, Iowa, the son of William and Faye (King) Bonnett. He was voted most athletic of his high school class due to his prowess in multiple sports. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in order to help his family during the depression. He earned $30 per month of which $25 was sent home to his family. Paul joined the US Army after the outbreak of WWII. He married Virginia Kathleen Saffell on July 24, 1943, in Savannah, Ga., while stationed there for training.
He initially served in the Coast Artillery, Puerto Rico, where he acquired malaria. After a short stint back in the USA for recovery and more training, he arrived in France three weeks after D-Day as an infantry replacement to the "Lucky 7th" Armored Division. In hindsight, Paul felt they were lucky since the 7th was issued winter clothing before the Battle of the Bulge while others, such as the 101st Airborne, went without. Paul served in France, Holland, Belgium, Germany and Austria. He earned four battle stars and a Bronze Star.
After his discharge, Paul and Virginia took up residence in Cedar Rapids. They built a new home in North Liberty after Virginia retired from Rockwell-Collins.

Quentin Collins
Quentin Joseph Collins, 90, of Toddville, passed away at his home Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, from a short illness, surrounded by his family. Funeral services were held Nov. 19 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Hiawatha, by the Rev. Neil Manternach. Burial was at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Quentin is survived by his five children, Kevin of North Liberty, Kerri of Toddville, Craig of Palo, Kelli of Toddville and Kenton (Patty) of Center Point; five grandchildren, Jeromy, Christopher (Carrie) McCain, Ryan McCain, Sabrina Collins-Atkinson and Ian Collins; four nieces, Kathy Snitker of Big Lake, Alaska, Sandy Van Horn and Lindy Howes (James) of Waukon, and Gerry (Vieden) Zahariev of Rochester, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arleen; his son, Jerry Raymond; his sister, Margaret Ann Van Horn; and his grandson, Brandon Michael.
Quentin was born March 9, 1920, in Waukon, the son of Joseph and Kathleen (O'Neill) Collins. He graduated from Waukon High School on May 24, 1937. Quentin was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran serving from 1941 to 1947, and completed aircrew training at Texas A & M. Quentin received the following citations: American Defense Service Medal, American Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory and one Service Stripe.
He was united in marriage to Arleen Caroline Beer on Jan. 27, 1949, in Elkader, Iowa. Arleen passed away in 1992. Quentin worked as a fireman with Wilsons from 1950 to 1960, until his layoff. He then went to work at Penick & Ford from 1961 to 1977, until his layoff. He worked at Midland Forge from 1977 to 1982, when he retired. Quentin was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
Quentin enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the Cubs and Notre Dame and spending time with his grandchildren. He spent many weekends at the field trials running his dogs. He had a wonderful sense of humor and keen memory.

Patricia Law
Patricia L. Law, 69, Brooklyn, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Nov. 18 at Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, with the Rev. John Dodds officiating. Burial was at Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, Brooklyn.
Memorials may be contributed to P.A.L.S. (Poweshiek Animal League Shelter).
Patricia is survived by her husband, Tom of Holiday Lake; three sons, Tom Jr. (Linda) of West Burlington, Brian (Linda) of Alleman, and Randy (Deb) of Waukee; a daughter, Lori Law of North Liberty; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Taletha Plagman of Tucson, Ariz., Debbie Lovejoy of Pahrump, Nev., Cindy Fauser (Richard) of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Carol Plagman of Tucson, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Ramon and Ronny Plagman.
Patricia Lorraine Plagman was born May 11, 1941, in Mason City, the daughter of Arthur and Esther (Brown) Plagman. She spent her early years in Floyd, Iowa, and graduated from Charles City High School in 1959. Patricia married Tom Law on July 24, 1959, at the United Methodist Church in Nora Springs, Iowa. The couple moved to the Brooklyn area in 1965.
Patricia was a mother and homemaker and enjoyed decorating her home. She liked reading, gardening and cooking. She was an Iowa Hawkeye basketball fan, followed NASCAR, especially Mark Martin, and enjoyed morel mushrooms. Patricia wintered in Alamo, Texas, but spent much of her time with her children and grandchildren.

Steven Meyer
Steven "Frog" Russell Mayer, 56, of Ely, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010. Memorial services were held Nov. 19 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Inurnment will be at a later date in Linwood Cemetery in Boone.
Steven was born April 20, 1954, in Jefferson, the son of Russell Luverne and June Elizabeth (Parks) Meyer. He graduated from Jefferson Community High School in 1972. Steven married Michele Gross on April 27, 1974, in Jefferson. He worked for Alliant Energy for over 36 years in the Jefferson, Perry and Cedar Rapids Prairie Creek Power Plants. He was a baseball coach and enjoyed attending his children's sporting events. He enjoyed NASCAR, building cars and being involved in all aspects of racing. Frog was a pit crew member for Bob and Joey Gase Racing Teams. He enjoyed fishing and time spent at Lake Macbride. Steve's most cherished moments were those spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Steven is survived by his wife, Michele; a son, Damon Meyer (Justine Wignall) of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Kara (Marc) Leonard of Amana; three grandchildren, Laurdyn Meyer, Avery Leonard and Braylon Meyer; two sisters, Carol (Sam) Fengel of Scranton, and Pat (Dave) Luther of Jefferson; three brothers Michael (Joanne) Meyer of Fort Dodge, Brian Meyer of Ely, and Robert (Mary) Meyer of Callender; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be directed to family.
