Elizabeth Koss
Elizabeth "Betty" Barbara Fuhrmeister Koss, 89, of Solon, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at the Solon Nursing Care Center. Funeral Mass was held on Monday, Nov. 8, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon. Visitation was Sunday at Brosh Chapel in Solon, where there was a parish vigil and rosary. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery. Brosh Chapel in Solon was in charge of arrangements.
Elizabeth was born April 27, 1921, in Iowa City, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth (Semrad) Fuhrmeister. Elizabeth attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Iowa City. She married Edward J. Koss on Dec. 30, 1940, at St. Wenceslaus' Catholic Church in Iowa City. Elizabeth was a homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm in rural Solon. She was a member of the Altar Society, PTA and a life long member of the Foresters and St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Elizabeth was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandma and Bubbi. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by her family and all that knew her.
Elizabeth is survived by her four children; James (Linda) Koss of Solon, Nancy (Mark) Heathman of Cedar Rapids, Bonnie Lacina of Solon and Donald (Sheri) Koss of North Liberty; 15 grandchildren, Linda (Brian) Bourgeois, Janet (Bud) Cavanah, Susan (Ron) Tremblay, James Jr. (Brenda) Koss, Tiffany Koss, Jody (Jamie) Miller, Jamie (Matt) Smith, Dustin Koss, Kristy (John) Shaw, Nicky (Jeremy) Ashby, Kyle Heathman, Debra (Ryan) Suchomel, Matt (Jessica) Lacina, Kimberly Frees and Karen (Erik) Taber; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a brother Robert (Gertie) Fuhrmeister and two sister-in-laws; Caroline Shimek and Lois Fuhrmeister.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edward, five siblings; Margaret Carson, Louis Fuhrmeister, Esther and Marceline Fuhrmeister and Maxine Bowman, a son-in-law Ray Lacina, a granddaughter Tammy Heathman and a great-grandson Dayton Koss.

George Krug Jr.
George A. Krug Jr., 56, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2010, at his home that he shared with his father, George Krug, after an extended illness. Services were held Nov. 3 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Daniel Krueger of Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha officiated. Burial was in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
George was born in Cedar Rapids and was one of four children born to George and Betty Krug. He attended Kennedy High School, graduating in 1973. He went on to Iowa State University, where he received his degree in mechanical engineering in 1978. Following graduation, he was employed by Rockwell Collins until his retirement. George enjoyed and found great satisfaction in designing and building new projects.
George is survived by his father, George A. Krug of Cedar Rapids; his brother, Kevin and wife Barbara of Swisher; sister, Sheryl Dunston and husband Dennis of Woodland, Calif.; and sister, Pamela and husband Richard of Cedar Rapids. George was the proud uncle to Sean Dunston of Woodland, Calif., Chad Ruhberg of Cedar Rapids, Danielle Perleberg of Milwaukee, Wis., and Jenni Markt of Center Point; and great-uncle to Delainey Markt.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty; grandparents; and nephew, Trent Van Lengen.
George enjoyed following sports, especially the Cyclones, baseball, music, movies and loved spending time with his family. Upon his retirement George devoted himself to caring for his parents. George had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed laughing. He had a warm, gentle heart, reaching out to those in need.
A memorial fund has been established in George's memory.

Delores Swann
Delores Joan Swann, 75, of Solon, passed away Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, at her home. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Solon. Private family inurnment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. with a vigil service at 8 p.m. at Brosh Chapel in Solon.
Delores was born July 3, 1935, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Edward and Helen (Reinhard) Vislisel. She married Larry G. Swann on June 7, 1958, at Sts. Peter and Paul Church.
Delores is survived by her husband, Larry; her sons, Mark Swann of Iowa City, Steve Swann of Trenton, Mo., and Mike (Jenny) Swann of Solon; daughters Terri (Wayne) Kramer of Farley, Kathi (Steve) Cunning of Monument, Colo., Sandi (Brian) Drew of Waukon, and Debbi (Kenny) Prior of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren Andrew, Danny, Matthew and Kevin Kramer, Savannah and Daylon Cunning, Tony, Derek, Cassie, Adam and Robbie Drew, Gage Powell, Steven Prior, Isaiah, Nathaniel and Gabriel Swann and Lincoln and Lauryn Swann; her sister, Darlene (Ron) Barta of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; brother-in-laws Ken (Sandy) Swann and Jerry (Betty) Swann of Ft. Collins, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Helen Vislisel and her parents-in-law, George and Tressie Swann. Memorials may be directed to the St. Mary's Catholic Church and the American Legion & Auxiliary.

Antone Wagner
Antone G. Wagner, 93, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at Greenwood Manor Care Center in Iowa City. He was a longtime resident of North Liberty. Funeral services were held Nov. 6 at Our Redeemer Luther Church in Iowa City. Burial was at the Oxford Cemetery.
Antone George Wagner was born Jan. 3, 1917, in Johnson County, Iowa, rural Oxford, the son of Carl and Nellie (Wagner) Wagner. Following attending schools near Oxford he worked as a farm hand for area farmers in the Oxford and Homestead areas. On Dec. 4, 1940, he was united in marriage to Agnes Katherine Sandersfeld in Conroy. In the early 1940s, the couple moved near North Liberty, where they, along with Wendyll and Lois Stoner, partnered to farm until their retirement in 1980, when Antone and Agnes moved into North Liberty. Agnes died Aug. 16, 1997.
He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City and the Johnson County Farm Bureau. Within the Farm Bureau he was a vocal advocate for farmers having health insurance. A true farmer at heart, Antone loved the outdoors, his farming, gardens and caring for his yard. He loved collecting vintage tractor and car models and mechanically reworked a 1929 Ford Tudor. Playing cards with family and friends, Bingo at Senior Dining and the care center were all things he enjoyed doing in good health and mind up until just a few months ago.
His family includes his two children and their spouses, Alvin and Alta Wagner of North Liberty and Elaine and Kenneth Cook of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Lyle Wagner (Christine Sorensen), Kathlene Hoech (Peter), Denise Fesler (Christopher) and Kevin Cook; two great-granddaughters, Meleah and Mallory Fesler; sisters-in-law, Lillian Sandersfeld of Williamsburg and Barbara Sandersfeld of Marengo; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Antone was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Paulena Bowler and her husband, Ralph; sister-in-law, Regina Jacobs; and brothers-in-law, Raymond Sandersfeld, Ralph Sandersfeld and Leonard Jacobs.
Memorial donations can be made in Antone's memory to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Karen Abbott
Karen R. Abbott, 50, of Iowa City, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, at her home unexpectedly. Family and friends gathered at the home of her mother, at 116 Apache Trl., Iowa City, on Oct. 30.
Karen Renee Poggenpohl was born Dec. 13, 1959, in Iowa City, the daughter of Walter F. and Edith A. (Halstead) Poggenpohl. For a number of years she was employed at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as a CAN.
Her family includes her mother, Edith Blanton of Iowa City; son, Joseph Rorex of Iowa City; daughter, Jennifer Shadday (Jeremiah) of Kelso, Wash.; brother, Steven Poggenpohl; sisters, Cindy Stroud and Janet Alcock (Ed), both of Iowa City, and Dawn Schulte (Brad) of North Liberty; grandson, Jacob Dean Bild; and nieces and nephews, Danelle Deatsch, Colette and Brian Applegarth, Wade Baines and Marty Martinson.
She was preceded in death by her father; stepfather, Jack Blanton; and a nephew, Jason Williams.
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Karen's family and her arrangements.

C. Jerry Price
C. Jerry Price, 74, of Burlington, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born July 12, 1936, in Iowa City, he was the son of Vern and Zylpha (Ferguson) Price. On Aug. 20, 1955, he married Margot "Ticky" Buss in Omaha, Neb. She died July 1, 2007.
Jerry was an entrepreneur and was involved in many businesses.
Survivors include five sons, Bill (Joanie) Price of Burlington, Russ (Lisa) Price of Muscatine, Andy (Alyssa) Price of Muscatine, Jobe (Jennifer) Price of North Liberty and Jeremy (Erika) Price of Burlington; three daughters, Jo (Thomas) Clayton of Burlington, Liz (Tony) Rich of Burlington, and Ann (Steve) Ralfs of Durant; 28 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his special friend, Mary Saye of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Dec. 17, at First Presbyterian Church with the family present one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Friends of Scouting and his grandchildren's education.
The Hass-Thielen Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.

Theodore Bissell
Theodore "Ted" Bissell, 60, of Solon, died Monday, December 6, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics after a long illness.
Services will be held Friday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until service time that day. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Theodore Bissell Memorial Fund.
Ted was born May 2, 1950, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, the son of Lewis and Berniece (Helmer) Bissell.
He graduated from Iowa City High School in 1969. Ted worked for the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City in the lab as an animal caretaker, until his retirement.
Ted was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and supporter of the Iowa City High Little Hawks. He also enjoyed playing and coaching tennis and was a longstanding member of the United States Tennis Association (USTA).
Ted is survived by his daughter Stephanie Bissell of Iowa City; sisters, Paula Bissell (Luis Mendoza) of Iowa City and Barb Griffith of Moscow, Iowa; brothers, Douglas Bissell of Iowa City, Steven Bissell (Julie) of San Antonio, Texas, and Richard Bissell (Susan Flashman) of Mt. Rainier, Md.; his former spouse, Linda Bissell of Iowa City; and nieces and nephews, Kevin (Elise), Kelli, Daniel (Jennifer Schubert), Justin, John, Jacob, Jordan, Gabriel and Emmanuel.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents.
