Ardath Jagnow
Ardath Helen Jagnow, 96, of Coralville, died peacefully at Country View Senior Residence in North Liberty, on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, of natural causes. A memorial service was held at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Iowa City Nov. 30. Interment will be at a later date at Linwood Cemetery in Dubuque. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City is handling arrangements.
Ardath was born in Renwick, Iowa, on Sept. 14, 1914, to Henry Emil and Marie Elizabeth Goettsch. She had a younger brother, Thomas, who was born Jan. 17, 1918. After graduating from high school she attended Morningside College, where she received a teaching certificate, and later taught school in Bode, Iowa. On June 16, 1940, she married Dr. Albert Jagnow, who was a professor at Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque. Her husband died suddenly on April 30, 1955. She attended the University of Dubuque and obtained her Iowa Teaching Certification. She taught country school in Dubuque County and then taught at Audubon School in Dubuque. In 1960, she was hired to teach at the University of Iowa's Pine School. The same day as she was hired to teach at Pine school, she bought the house at 212 Fifth St. in Coralville and a few weeks later moved to Coralville with her four boys.
She became a charter member of Christ the King Lutheran Church. After teaching several years at Pine School she was hired to teach at Roosevelt Elementary School in Iowa City. At Roosevelt School she taught fourth grade and was instrumental in developing the Roosevelt Ravine into an outdoor classroom. She retired from teaching in 1981. After retirement she remained active in the community and taught English as a Second Language classes.
Ardath is survived by four sons, Albert (Karin) of North Liberty, Paul of Iowa City, David (Lavonne Jordan) of Albuquerque, N.M., and Mark (Connie) of Oxford; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Christ the King Lutheran Church, 325 Mormon Trek Boulevard., Iowa City, IA 52246-1744.

Eldon Jarrard
Eldon Leland Jarrard, 83, of North Liberty, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at Windmill Manor in Coralville. Funeral services were held Dec. 5 at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Lone Tree. The Rev. Alecia Williams officiated. Burial was in the Lone Tree Cemetery. Casket bearers were Mark Jarrard, Mike Seering, Doug Seering, Kevin Malone, Sean Malone and Mike Wright. Honorary casket bearers were Scott Jarrard, Cleo Dodson, Kenny Brenneman, Vernon Brenneman, Butch Meade, David Malone and Fred Malone. Visitation and a Masonic service were held Dec. 4 at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Lone Tree.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Eldon.

Eldon Leland Jarrard was born on March 30, 1927, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Harry and Mildred (Watson) Jarrard. Eldon was a 1946 graduate of Lone Tree High School. In 1948, Eldon was united in marriage to Diane Abrams in Iowa City. Diane passed away on July 3, 1965. Eldon was later united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" Malone on Dec. 31, 1975, in Iowa City.
Eldon was a truck driver who drove for various companies for many years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in North Liberty and a 50-year member of the Lone Tree Masons, Abner Lodge #535. Eldon enjoyed mowing, having a manicured lawn, fishing, camping, traveling, dancing, playing and listening to music, but most of all, Eldon dearly loved to spend time with his family.
Eldon will be deeply missed by his wife, Betty of North Liberty; his children, Rick Jarrard and wife, Di of Union Hall, Va., Danny Jarrard and his wife, Debbie of Lone Tree, Trilly Jarrard of North Liberty; stepdaughter, Karen Heumphreus of San Diego, Calif.; stepsons, Michael Seering and his wife, Tami of North Liberty, and Doug Seering of Iowa City; 10 grandchildren, Dawn Jarrard, Travis (Kate) Jarrard, Tawnya (John) Doss, Cody (Michele) Jarrard, Billy (Hailey) Smith, Beth Clark and fiance Tim Denneny, Curtis Heumphreus, Samantha Seering, Riley Pirkl and Cole Pirkl; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne Jarrard and his wife, Wanda of Atalissa; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Diane; and one sister, Marilyn Brumwell.

Mary Louise Sueppel Kamerling
Mary Louise Sueppel Kamerling, 78, of Lisbon, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, in Mercy Medical Center Cedar Rapids from an apparent heart attack. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 8, at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon. Mary's family greeted friends from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Solon Cemetery.
Surviving Mary are a daughter, Diana Kamerling of Mount Vernon; two sons, Lawrence (Galeen) and Alan (Allison) all of Lisbon; 11 grandchildren, Vance Light, Brandy Smith, Stacy Bell, Samantha Gallagher, Megan Light, Robbie Kamerling, Rachael Lawrence, Ross Kamerling, and Logan, Elizabeth, and Jacob Kamerling; 14 great-grandchildren, Justin, Reagan, Kalen Light, Zeb Light, Cheyenne, Mitchell, Colten Smith, Daniel Bell, Quincy Bolender, Rhyan Gallagher, Keean and Kelsy Kamerling, and Walker and Delaney Lawrence; a step-sister, Dorothy Stork; step-brothers Arlo, Clair, and Glen Whitman.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Robert, who died in 1971; son and daughter-in-law Steve and Sherri Kamerling; a brother, Lawrence Sueppel; a step-mother, Mabel Sueppel; and a step-brother, Kenneth Whitman.
Mary was born March 1, 1932, on the family farm near Solon. She was the daughter of Clarence and Frances (McLaughlin) Sueppel. Mary graduated from Lisbon High School in 1950. She married Robert Kamerling on Nov. 28, 1950, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Solon. The couple farmed south of Lisbon, and Mary worked for many years at Joensy's Restaurant in Solon.
A memorial fund in Mary's honor has been established.

Henry Knoke
Henry W. "Hank" Knoke, 98, of Iowa City, died peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010, at Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Coralville.
Hank chose to be cremated. A celebration of his life is being planned for a later date.
The family requests no flowers. Hank's preference would be that in lieu of offering a memorial, do something kind for a friend or family member.
Hank was born Nov. 8, 1912, on the Knoke farmstead in Knoke, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Minnie (Leege) Knoke. Graduating from Pomeroy High School, Hank served in the United States Navy from 1942-45 in Pearl Harbor aboard the U.S.S. West Virginia as a deep-sea diver and welder.
He married Mildred Scheetz in 1952 in Keokuk, Iowa. The couple later divorced.
Hank worked as a machinist, working on projects such as the Veterans Administration Medical Center and Iowa City High School in Iowa City. He also worked for the Boeing Corporation. Hank retired in 1973.
Survivors include his son, Rick Knoke of North Liberty; stepchildren, Allen Scheetz of Pennsylvania and Karen Collins of Davenport; his former spouse Mildred of Coralville and many step-grandchildren.
Hank was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and sisters.

Bernard Michalec
Bernard S. Michalec, 55, of Anamosa, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at the Jones Regional Medical Center, Anamosa, after a long battle with cancer. A funeral mass was held Dec. 1 at St. Ludmila Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Thomas McDermott officiating. Burial was in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Bernie was born on Nov. 13, 1955, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Frank W. and Mary (Philipp) Michalec. He attended St. Ludmila School. Bernie worked at Quaker Oats until retiring in 1990. Bernie was married to Sheryl Rion, but the couple later divorced. He moved to Anamosa in 2004.
He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and going to casinos.
Bernie is survived by three children, Angela Jenkins, Damien Michalec and Jacob Michalec, all of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; five sisters, Sister Mary Fran of Iowa City, Theresa (Bob) Ruzicka of Cedar Rapids, Joan (Bill) Miller of Ely, Rosie Harvey of Cedar Rapids and Patricia Smith of Anamosa; four brothers, Robert J., Michael C. (Dianna), William (Sheri) and Phillip, all of Cedar Rapids; two sisters-in-law, Karen Michalec of Cedar Rapids and Darla (Ken) Paxton of Fairfax; many nieces and nephews; and his best friend and caregiver, Terry Vernon of Anamosa.
Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, Frank W. and Mary Michalec; two sons, Caleb in 2003, and Joshua in 2004; two brothers, Benjamin A. and Franklin A. Michalec; and a grandson, Tanner Michalec.
Bernie will be missed deeply by all who loved him.
Memorial may be directed to St. Luke's Hospice, 290 Blairs Ferry Rd. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402 in Bernie's honor.

Michael Robertson
Michael J. Robertson, 35, of Marion, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at his home. Services were held Dec. 4 at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Becky High and the Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum.
Survivors include his wife, Carly of Marion; two daughters, Jaelyn Robertson of Marion and Ashley Neuhaus of Marion; his parents, Gregory and Janet Robertson; parents-in-law, Ed and Jeanne Langhurst of Marion; his grandparents, Dorothy Robertson of Cedar Rapids and Wayne and Darlyne Perry of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Brook (Torrey) Frantz of North Liberty and Sarah (Brock) Holub of Marion; and two nephews, Jaden and Ashton Frantz.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Donald A. Robertson.
Michael was born Sept. 17, 1975, the son of Gregory and Janet (Perry) Robertson in Cedar Rapids. He married Carly Langhurst on May 4, 2008, in Marion. Michael was an automotive tech and worked in construction.
Michael foremost loved his wife, his children and family. He enjoyed fishing, playing guitar, going on the boat, had a great love for animals and plants, and he had the gift of being able to fix anything. He also enjoyed music and his great sense of humor will be dearly missed.
A memorial fund has been established.
