Betty Ballard Compton

Mrs. Betty Ballard Compton, age 82 of Anna, died at 12:20 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2012 at the Anna Rehab & Care Center. She was born November 22, 1929 in Marion, the daughter of Theodore P. and Effie Ann Woolsey Frey. She married Olen Pat Ballard on December 10, 1954 in Herrin. He preceded her in death on September 19, 1975.

Betty is survived by her three daughters, Sandra (Mike) Mckinnon of Huntsville, AL, Beverly (Robert) Warshawsky of Anna, Cindy (Bruce) Mosby of Jonesboro; two sons, Steve Ballard (Teresa Bauer) of Anna, Greg Ballard of Jackson, MO; twelve grandchildren, Ronny Reed, Aimee Reed, Chris Edmonds, Matt Chumbler, Renae Myers, Brandon Mosby, Ashley Ballard, Katie Mosby, Miranda Ballard, Riley Ballard, Jonathon Warshawsky, and Michael Warshawsky; six great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Nell (Gene) Roberts of Pell City, AL; dear friends, Joan Mowery, Mark Mosby and Bonnie Mangum; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pat four brothers, Don, Bryce, Oland, and Clyde Frey; two sisters, Blonn Phillips and Verna Lee Hearn.

Betty was a member of the Jonesboro United Methodist Church for many years. She was a lifelong Democrat. Betty was a member of the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 V.F.W. Women’s Auxiliary, Rebeccah’s Lodge and was an officer with AFSCME.

Betty retired from the Choate Mental Health & Development Center as a Mental Health Technician.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Betty Ballard Compton were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at the Anna City cemetery with Rev. Robert Fear officiating. Interment will be in the Anna City cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jonesboro United Methodist Church or the Anna Rehab and Nursing Center Recreation Fund. Envelopes will be available at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna and at the cemetery.

Mary Ann Batson

Mrs. Mary Ann Batson, age 63 of Richton Park, formerly of Ullin, died at 4:23 a.m. Friday, August 3, 2012 at the Fransician St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields, IL. She was born August 30, 1948 in Anna, the daughter of Jim Bracken and Mary Hammond Bracken Dixon.

Mary is survived by her three sons, Tony Miller of Denver, CO, John Lence of Winters TX, Pete Lence of Ullin; one daughter, Liberty Batson of Anna; twenty six grandchildren; brothers, Ronald (Jeannie) Hammond of Peace Valley, Mo, Jerry (Jackie) Bracken of Jonesboro, Darrell Bracken of West Frankfort, Floyd (Rebecka) Dixon of Murray, KY, Kenny (Carrie) Dixion of Dongola; two sisters, Elaine Marr of Thompson, IL and Carol (Tommy) Pierce of Center Ville, AL; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; step father, Sidney Dixon; one daughter, Candy Michaelle Ashline; one grandson, Joshua Lence; three brothers, Thomas Hammond, Donald Hammond and James 'Jimmy' Bracken; and one great niece, Pashia Jaylin Henderson.

Memorial services for Mrs. Mary Ann Batson were held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, August 9, 2012 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Rev. Bon Reynolds officiating. Interment was in the Casper cemetery in Anna. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home. Envelopes will be available at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home.

James K. 'Jim' Keller

Mr. James K. 'Jim' Keller, age 80 of Makanda died at 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at his home in Makanda with his family by his side. He was born and grew up in Balcom, the son of Roy and Evelyn Anderson Keller. He married JoAnn Houghlan, and together they would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this year.

Jim is survived by his wife, JoAnn Keller of Makanda; three children, Denise (Don) Pippens of Anna, James A 'Jimmy' (Norine) Keller of Anna, and Diana (Jacob) Alley of Anna; five grandchildren, Jake Alley, Natalie (Adam) Shasteen, Josh (Ashley) Alley, James M. 'Bub' Keller and his fiancé, Shelby Beran, Lindsey (Brandon) Radcliffe; two great grandchildren, Titus Radcliffe and Addyson Alley; one brother, Larry (Brenda) Keller of Anna; one sister, Pat (Doc) Abernathy of Jonesboro; his loving pet terrier Pee Wee, who never left his side; other relatives including nieces and nephews that adored him. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jim graduated from AJCHS and later served in the US

Army during the Korean Conflict. After his military service he worked for the Illinois Central Railroad and later Transcraft Corporation.

In 1972 he started in the healthcare business, owning and operating the Walnut Grove and Mulberry Manor facilities. In 2000 along with his son in law Don Pippens built and developed the Stone Creek Golf Course and Development in Makanda.

Jim’s hobbies included spending time with his children and grandchildren at their many sporting events. He loved sports and was the coach for the American Legion Baseball Team in Anna for many years. He also enjoyed fishing and golfing with his many friends and family.

Jim was a member of the Anna United Methodist Church. He was also a life member of the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna. He was very supportive of the World Vision Organization which supports children throughout the world. Jim had adopted and sent to school over thirty children.Funeral services for Mr. James K. Ann Barbara McCarver

Mrs. Ann Barbara McCarver, age 76, of Buncombe, died at 11:11 p.m., Monday, July 2, 2012 at Jonesboro Rehab and Healthcare Center. She was born February 12, 1936 in Ware, the daughter of Irvin and Velma Wildy Sadler. She married John L. McCarver in August of 1958 in Anna.

Barbara is survived by her husband John L. McCarver of Buncombe; 2 sons, Rick L. McCarver of Colorado Springs, CO and David L. (Lana) McCarver of Goreville; 4 brothers, Jerry Sadler of Anna, Larry Sadler of Anna, Paul Sadler of Dongola, and Eddie Sadler of Buncombe; 5 sisters, Freda May Purcell of Detroit, MI, Lois Cruse of Anna, Judy Dillow of Anna, JoAnn Peterman of Anna, and Linda Osman of Cypress; 3 grandchildren, Justin Wingate of Lake of Egypt, John Paul McCarver of Buncombe, and Rick D. McCarver of Goreville; 4 great-grandchildren, Landon McCarver, Pacey McCarver, Mason McCarver, and Jackson Wingate; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 sister, Lola Vincent; and 6 brothers, Joe Sadler, Bill Sadler, William 'Runt' Sadler, Clifford 'Dick' Sadler, Daniel Sadler, and James Sadler.

Barbara loved and adored her family. She especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her other great enjoyment in life was fishing. She was an avid fishing enthusiast.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ann Barbara McCarver will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 6, 2012 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Rev. Dean West officiating. Interment will be in the Ebenezer Hall cemetery. Visitation will be at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ebenezer Hall cemetery. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Mary I. Dunlap

Mrs. Mary I. Dunlap, age 92, of Jonesboro, died at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at the Jonesboro Rehab and Nursing Center in Jonesboro. She was born May 22, 1920 in Murphysboro, Illinois the daughter of Ben and Leona Stevens Trobaugh.

Mary is survived by one son, Earl (Nancy) Barker Jr. of Jonesboro; two grandchildren, Curt (Vicki) Barker of Elgin, Darren Barker of Mt. Morris; four great grandchildren, Bradley, Brett, Taylor, and Devin Barker; one sister, Daisy Swanger of Elgin; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers and one sister.

Mary retired from the Elgin Mental Health Center after many years as a technician.

Memorial services for Mrs. Mary I. Dunlap will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Anna with Rev. Bill Minor officiating. Interment will be held privately. Memorial contributions may be made to the Illinois Veteran’s Home Activity Fund. Envelopes will be available at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna and at the church.

Trent Owen Eastwood

Trent Owen Eastwood, month and a half old of Tamms, died Monday, July 9, 2012 in St. Louis Children’s Hospital. He was born May 15, 2012 in Carbondale, the son of Charity Eastwood.

Trent is survived by his mother, Charity Eastwood of Tamms; maternal grandmother, Angela (Eddie) Summers of Tamms; maternal great-grandparents, Milford (Wilma) Davis of Tamms; maternal great-grandmother, Faye Rendleman of Anna; aunts, cousins; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Kent Eastwood.

Funeral services for Trent Owen Eastwood will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2012 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Rev. Buddy Walls officiating. Interment will be in the Ebenezer Hall cemetery in Lick Creek. Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. and until the funeral hour at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2012 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. Lily M. Modglin

Lily M. Modglin, age 70, of Charleston, MO, formerly of Mounds died at 8:10 AM Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at the home of her daughter in Paducah, KY.

She was born December 8, 1941 to Melvin C. and Nellie (Bailey) Henderson in Gale, IL.

She married Roy Modglin on July 25, 1990. He survives her.

Lily is survived by her husband, Roy of Charleston, MO; 2 sons, Timothy Lee Burton, Roger Orland Burton; 3 daughters, Lisa Virginia Burton, Lahoma Darlene Nirenberg, Martha Smith; 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Barbara Coleson, Sharon Ivy; 3 brothers, Kenny Henderson, Paul Henderson, Benny Henderson; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Mary Burton; 2 sons, Jeffrey Scott Burton, Robert Burton, 1 step-son Roy Joseph Modglin Jr. and 1 brother Vernon Henderson.

Visitation will be held 5-8 PM Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms.

Funeral services for Lily M. Modglin will be at 11 AM Friday, May 25, 2012 at the funeral home with Pastor Kevin Badgley and Pastor Larry Rudliss officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery in Thebes.

Glenda Mae Hutchison

Glenda Mae Hutchison, 75, of Dongola, died at 5:02AM on Monday, June 25, 2012 at Union County Hospital in Anna.

She was born on March 05, 1937 to Glen and Mae (Carter) Ferguson. She married William 'Bill' Hutchison. He survives her.

Glenda was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister.

She is survived by her husband, Bill of Dongola; 1 son, William 'Billy' Hutchison of Dahlgren; 2 granddaughters, Nichelle (Bradley) Drew of Villa Grove and Paige (Stephen Bertrand) Drinkwater of Granite City; 5 great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Kaleb and Kaitlyn Drew and Halley and Isaiah Drinkwater; 1 brother, Loren Ferguson of Anna; 7 sisters-in-law; 2 brothers-in-law; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her mother; father; step-father, Friday Craig; 2 great-grandchildren, Kylie & Kolby Drew; and 1 brother, Dean Ferguson.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2012 from 5-8PM at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 29, 2012 at 10:00AM at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro with Rev. Paul Sadler officiating. Interment will follow in the Anna City cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Lessie Henderson

Lessie Henderson, 74, of McClure, died at 4:15AM on August 7, 2012 at Jonesboro Rehab and Care.

He was born on June 30, 1938 in Missouri the son of Gladies Henderson. He married Clydie 'Lois' Jackson. She survives him.

Lessie was known to his many nieces and nephews and 'Uncle Bill' and to his friends as 'Red'.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; granddaughter, Barbara Anglin of Jonesboro; 3 great-granddaughters, Trisha, Kayla and Breanna Dillow; brothers, Wesley, Jesse and Ralph; sisters, Helen, Bessie, Nettie and Gladys; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his step-daughter, Rebecca Anglin Oberts and his sister, Pearl.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 12, 2012 from 4-7PM at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 13, 2012 at 10AM at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms with Rev. Raymond Oxford officiating. Interment will follow in Lindsey cemetery.

Donations can be made to the family to defray funeral expenses and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Betty Frances Sadler

Betty Frances Sadler, 73, of Murphysboro, formerly of Anna, died at 5:20AM Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Union County Hospital in Anna.

Arrangements are incomplete at Crain Funeral Home.

Frank D. Casper

Frank D. Casper, age 79, of Gurnee, Illinois, formerly of Cobden died at 1:19 am Thursday, August 9, 2012 at his daughter’s home in Gurnee.

He was born on May 6, 1933 in Cobden the son of Edward Earl and Cecile Mae (Earnhart) Casper. He married Joyce Patterson on May 15, 1955. She survives him.

He served is country honorably in the US Navy having served on the USS Hector and USS AFDB1. Frank worked as a farm foreman for Hawthorne Melody Farms for 38 years. He was a founder and charter member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Grayslake.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Gurnee; 3 daughters, Joy Ray (Don) Husko of Wauconda, Leia Gay (Dan) Thomas of Gurnee, and Tracy Kay (Travis) Primmer of Kenosha, WI; grandchildren, Tarah (Mark) Hoffman of Waukegan, Jeremiah Husko of Grayslake, Kirah and Kaylah Husko of Wauconda, Jessica, Emily and Julia Thomas of Gurnee, Guy Delano Primmer of Kenosha, WI; great grandchildren, Anyah Hoffman of Waukegan and Gloria Thomas of Gurnee; 1 sister, Louella Pender of Anna; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Charles and James Casper, 2 brothers-in-law, Robert Patterson and Gilbert Pender.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 13, 2012 from 9:30-10:30 at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 13, 2012 at 10:30AM at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro with Rev. Steve Farish officiating. Interment will follow in Ebenezer Hall cemetery with military honors by VFW Post 3455 and Illinois National Guard Honor’s Team.

Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Baptist Church Library Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
