Maxine Herrington

Maxine L. Herrington, age 76, of 67 South Farnham Street, Galesburg, Illinois died at 9:55 a.m. Thursday, October 29, 1998, at the Marigold Health Care Center.

Born February 12, 1922, in Abingdon, to Jess and Vergie Peacock Cozad, she married Delmar Jacob Herrington on February 17, 1941, in Burlington, Iowa. He died February 1, 1995.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are one son, Craig of Galesburg; one daughter, Cynthia Danner of El Cajon, California; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Robert Cozad of Galesburg; and one sister, Betty Dickerson, of Galesburg.

She worked for the Abingdon Blue Bell and the Galesburg Protexall. She was a member and Sunday school teacher of the Faith United Methodist Church in Galesburg.

Graveside services were held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Oak Lawn memorial Gardens with Rev. Kevin Treptow officiating. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to her church or the American Cancer Society.

Ines Johns

Ines F. Bryan Johns, 91, of 900 E. Jefferson, Macomb, passed away at 4:55 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Argyle Lake Nursing Center in Colchester.

Born March 16, 1908, in Fulton County to Leonard and Mary Hoyle Bryan, she married Ralph Haffner. She later married Glen Johns on Nov. 11, 1967. He preceded her in death.

Two sisters and one brother also preceded her in death. Surviving are two step-daughters, Mrs.John (Evelyn) She was a member of Point Pleasant Church near Marietta. She lived in Smithfield, Cuba, Avon, Canton and Peoria County before moving to Macomb in 1989.

She was a cook at the Everly House in Macomb for several years.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31 at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb. The Rev. Mary Jo Williams officiated. Family visitation was held one hour prior to services. Burial was in Point Pleasant cemetery near Marietta.

Wanieta J. Lindsey

Wanieta Jean Lindsey, age 62, a resident of Cottonwood Health Care Center, 820 E. Fifth Street, Galesburg, passed away at 12:45 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000 in the nursing home.

She was born September 11, 1937, in Marietta, the daughter of Charles and Mary Murphy.

She married Bill Lindsey Sr. They were divorced. vSurviving are one son, Bill Lindsey Jr., Abingdon; two daughters, Sharon Leighton and Martha Lindsey, both of Canton; three brothers, Gene Murphy, Canton, Lyle Murphy, in Kansas, and Lloyd Murphy, in Tennessee; one sister, Virginia Jones, Peoria, and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Randy Lindsey.

Cremation was accorded. No service is planned. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Bessie L. Coulter

Bessie L. Coulter, 69, Monmouth, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, in Galesburg Terrace Nursing Center, Galesburg.

She was born Aug. 17, 1930, in Gladstone, the daughter of Charles and Lilly Shultz Starkey. She married John P. Coulter on Jan. 18, 1974, in Monmouth. He passed away March 17, 1982.

Surviving are four daughters, Freda DeFord, Lilly Ross, Barbara Farrington and Kim Garner, all of Monmouth; two brothers, Ed Brentise and Chuck Brentise Sr., both of Monmouth; four sisters, Ellen Myers, Hattie Garrett and Sara Strange, all of Monmouth, and Lucy Johnson, Abingdon; 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister and one granddaughter.

She was reared in the home of her aunt and uncle, Lilly and Harry Brentise.

She attended Monmouth public schools. She was a homemaker.

Funeral was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, in Turnbull Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gerald Marlow officiating.

Burial was in Monmouth cemetery.

Dean W. Cook

Graveside services for Dean Wesley Cook, 79, of Monmouth, were held Monday, December 27 at 2 p.m. in Warren County Memorial Park cemetery. Rev. David Johnson officiated.

Mr. Cook passed away on Saturday, December 25, 1999, at 4:55 p.m. in Pinewood Health Care Center, Monmouth. Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Memorial may be left to: the First Christian Church, The Mississippi Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, or to the Pinewood Health Care Center.

A son of Ira and Nettie Thompson Cook, he was born March 27, 1920 in Obert, Neb. He married Vera Jean Ryan on July 12, 1941 in Maskill, Neb., who survives.

He leaves: a daughter, Linda Cook of Davenport, IA; a sister, Mardelle Pedigo of Green Valley, Ariz.; a brother, Francis Cook of Roseville; nieces, nephews and cousins.

His parents and a son Larry Dean Cook, preceded him in death.

Mr. Cook grew up and received his education in Obert. He was an Army veteran of World War II, served in the National Guard, and in 1947 received a citation for Meritorious Service from the State of Illinois.

He was an employee of Cummings & Emmerson, managing a Macomb store, and later worked at C&E; Motor Supply, Inc. in Monmouth, where he became a co-partner in 1965 and served as its president until his retirement in 1983.

Mr. Cook attended the First Lutheran Church for over 50 years. He was a member of the Royal Arch Masons and Marion B. Fletcher American Legion Post in Monmouth.

Donald R. Davis

Donald R. Davis, age 61, of 1914 160 th Street, Cameron, Illinois, passed away at 12:47 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 1999 at the OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Illinois.

He was born September 4, 1938 in Canton, Missouri, the son of Robert W. and Mamie Hess Davis. He married Rosie Sheets on November 4, 1958 in Wayland, Missouri. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, James R. Davis, Galesburg and Steve W. Davis, Kewanee, Illinois; three daughters, Mrs. Tom (Brenda) Bopp, Waukesha, Wisconsin, Mrs. Jeff (Linda) Orrender, Schaumburg, Illinois and Mrs. John (Hope) Reynolds, Galesburg; one brother, Garry Davis, Kahoka, MO; three sisters, Mrs. Wayne (Mary) Tallman, St. Francisville, MO, Mrs. Herb (Betty) Stevens, New London, Iowa and Mrs. Dana (Linda) McCaullough, Kansas City, Kansas and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

He worked for Munson Trucking for 10 years then for the former OMC Gale Products division for 20 years, both in Galesburg and then he worked for Quad-City Kenworth, at Rock Island for the last ten years.

He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church, Galesburg.

He was an army veteran.

Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2000 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Robert E. Eshleman officiating.

Burial was in East Linwood cemetery in Galesburg.

Memorials may be made to the family or to the building fund for the Harmony Baptist Church.

Lawrence R. Flanagan

Lawrence R. 'Larry' Flanagan, age 60, of 512 North Sage Street, Oneida, passed away at 10:42 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2000, in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

He was born June 13, 1939, in Chester, S. D., the son of William and Irene Luken Flanagan.

He married Rebecca 'Becky' Tabb on February 17, 1962, in Phoenix, Arizona.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Lisa Smith, Oneida, and Kimberly Hedegaard, Byron; one brother, William Flanagan, Phoenix, Arizona; three sisters, Faylor Muchow and Ruth Connelly, both of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Theresa Batie, Phoenix, and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

He was reared and educated in the Chester and Phoenix areas.

He served in the Air Force and the Air Force Reserve.

He worked at the former Gale Products Division of Outboard Marine Corp. in Galesburg for 10 years; for Sampson Implement Company in Oneida and Galesburg for 10 years, and for Neff Company in Avon for the past 15 years.

He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Wataga.

He served as an Oneida alderman and was a member of the Oneida Fire Department. He was a charter member of the Oneida Jaycees, and was a former member of the Oneida Lions Club. He was a member of Lake Calhoun Country Club, and served on its board and as vice president.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Aloysius Catholic Church, with the Revs. Michael Menner and Michael VanAcker officiating.

Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Oneida was in charge of the arrangements.

Burial was in Oneida cemetery.

Memorials may be made to his family.

John Dean McCullough

John Dean McCullough, age 84, of Licking, Missouri, formerly of Abingdon, Illinois, passed away at 4:10 a.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2000 at his home.

He was born February 4, 1915 in Abingdon, Illinois, the son of John Louis and Mary Catherine Poole McCullough. He married Dorothy Daye McGinness on December 31, 1937 at Kahoka, Missouri. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Carol Jean Cozad, Lewistown, Illinois and Shirley Maxine Beavon, Lomax, Illinois; one sister, Jessie DeMott, Lewistown; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one step grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one son, Jimmie Dean McCullough, three brothers and two sisters.

He had lived near Licking, Missouri, since March of 1966 where he farmed until his retirement in 1977. Prior to that had lived in Abingdon and rural Avon, Illinois.

He farmed in Illinois and had worked at Wilson Paper Company, Hansen Lumber and Admirals all in Galesburg.

He was a former member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Abingdon.

Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Abingdon cemetery.

Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon was in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
