Robert C. Meline

Robert C. Meline, 40, of Knoxville, Tenn., formerly of Macomb, died on Aug. 26, 1999, in the University of Tennessee Medical Center. He was born Dec. 25, 1958, in Macomb to Charles 'Bud' and Jean (Witmer) Meline. He married Diane Allen on Sept. 26, 1981, at Macomb. He is survived by his parents; wife; daughters Kelsey and Erin both at home; brother David (Marilyn) of Clark, Colo.; niece Sarah Meline; nephew Matt Meline. Meline lived the first part of his life in Macomb, and moved to Nashville, Tenn., in 1991 and then to Knoxville in 1994. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Law Enforcement Administration from WIU and was a Public Safety Officer for WIU for 10 years. He was most recently a Pre-Trial Services Officer for the federal courts. He also was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed outdoor activities. Memorial services were held Aug. 27 in St. George Episcopal Church. His organs were donated to help others and cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorder Association, 1924 Alcoa Highway, Knoxville, TN., 37920 or to Tennessee Donor Services, 7015 Middlebrook Pike, Knoxville, TN., 37909.

Bruce K. Courson

Bruce K. Courson, age 45, of 304 North Snapp Street, Abingdon, Illinois, passed away at 2:42 a.m. Monday, August 30, 1999 at his home. He was born February 16, 1954 in Galesburg the son of Emery C. and Martha C. Wilson Courson. He married Mary Edna Rowland on June 27, 1980 in Abingdon. She survives. Other survivors are Charles Courson at home; one sister, Paulette Baldwin, Abingdon; several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. He had lived in Abingdon all of his life and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1973. He worked as an inspector at Briggs Manufacturing in Abingdon. He was an avid bowler and a member of Galesburg Bowling Association. Cremation was accorded. A memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel, Abingdon with Rev. Steve Anderson officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-7 p.m. at the chapel. Memorials may be made to the Abingdon Food Pantry or American Diabetes Association.

Betty Bertha Post Cutler

Betty Bertha Post Cutler, age 104, of 306 West Warren Street, Avon, Illinois, passed away at 11:15 a.m. Monday, August 23, 1999 at her residence. She was born March 20, 1895 in Colchester, Illinois, the daughter of Ira and Eureatha Twaddle Post. Survivors include one niece, Olga Kay Kennedy of Lawrence, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Orma P. Butler. She lived in Avon most of her life. She was a graduate of Western Academy in 1917, received her Bachelors of Arts & Education from Western Illinois University and her Masters in Education from Columbia University in 1953. She studied abroad and traveled around the world twice. She taught at Wheaton Junior High School and the Chicago Art Institute. She was a partner in the Farmers Grain Elevator in Avon for 15 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was District President in 1940. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home, Macomb with Reverend Jon Prain officiating. Burial was in the Oakwood cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Wesley Village Lend A Hand Service.

Marcelle M. Sullivan

Marcelle M. Sullivan, 72, of Macomb, died at 7:08 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999, in McDonough District Hospital. She was born on June 10, 1927, at Fort Madison, Iowa, to Millard and Anna Myrtle (Hogan) Boddeker. She married Carl J. Sullivan on Dec. 23, 1946, at Nauvoo. He survives at Macomb. Survivors also include son William J. of Stronghurst; daughter Donna (Craig) Lant of Macomb; granddaughter Laura Lant of Macomb. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and daughter Peggy Louise Sullivan. Mrs. Sullivan was reared at Niota. After her marriage she moved in 1947 to Larchland, and in 1959 to south of Stronghurst where she and her husband farmed for many years. They have lived in Macomb for 16 years. She worked many years for the American Red Cross and loved doing arts, crafts and sewing. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. Services were Wednesday in St. Paul church with the Rev. Greg Ketchum officiating. Burial was in Stronghurst cemetery. Corman Memorial Home at Roseville was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the McDonough County American Red Cross or to the donor’s choice.

Elmer Carl Kraatz

Elmer Carl Kraatz, 96, of Macomb, died at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, in Heartland Healthcare Center, Macomb.

He was born on July 29, 1903, in Chicago, the son of Albert and Minna (Lampe) Kraatz. He married Elsa Lautherbach on Sept. 25, 1936, at Seattle, Wash. She died in January 1995.

Survivors include daughter Marcia (Hans) Moll of Macomb; son William (Rose) Kraatz of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister Lucille Scholz of Freeland, Wash.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-grandstepchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and daughter Lynda Kraatz.

Mr. Kraatz lived in Seattle, Minneapolis, Minn., Phoenix, and Mesa, Ariz., before moving to Macomb in 1995. He worked for many years as an Independent Insurance Agent and later for the city of Phoenix.

Services were Saturday in the Lutheran Student Center, Macomb, with the Rev. Mike Burdick officiating. Cremation rites were accorded and private entombment of ashes took place in Green Acres cemetery at Scottsdale, Ariz.

Memorials may be made to The Lutheran Hour, Heartland Healthcare Center, or MDH Day Health Care.

Clugston-Tibbits Funeral Home in Macomb was in charge of arrangements.

Mary E. Allison

Mary E. Allison, 90, of near Knoxville, passed away at 1:15 p.m., Thursday, January 7, 1999, at home.

She was born July 2, 1908, in Clark county, MO, the daughter of Abel Calvin and Clara Bertha Leighton Brown.

She married Harry O. Poulson on October 15, 1924. He passed away in October 1951.

She was also preceded in death by three sons, John, Howard and Richard Poulson, one grandson, three sisters, and four brothers.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Jack (Dolly) Patch of Prairie City and Florence Patch of Rogers, AR; two sisters, Charlotte Beard of DeLong and Olive Hagmier of Keokuk, IA; One brother, Oscar Brown of Abingdon; 15 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.

She and her husband were farmers in Abingdon and Wataga. She was a nurse’s aide at Galesburg Cottage Hospital and also a beautician for several years. She was a member of the Congregational Church in Wataga.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville. Burial was in Wataga cemetery. Memorials may be made to any charity.

Byron Irwin

Byron Junior Irwin, age 68, of Littleton, passed away at 1:52 a.m. Friday, January 1, 1999, in Catoosa, Oklahoma.

Born May 27, 1930, in Cuba, Illinois, to Byron 'Pink' and E. Leila Schoonover Irwin, he married Jacqueline Setelin on March 5, 1983, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Shawn of Camden; one stepson, Stacy Kamp of Abingdon; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Steve (Lori) Wieters of Glendale, Arizona; six grandchildren; one brother, Darwin of Rushville; and one sister, Mrs. Carl (Donna) Lerch of Cuba.

He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

He was self-employed as a heavy-equipment operator for many years, retiring in 1995. He was a Korean War Navy veteran. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where services were held at 10:30 Thursday with Rev.Thomas Rittichier and Matthew Haberman officiating. Military rites were conducted by Schuyler American Legion Post 4.

Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel in Rushville was in charge of the arrangements. Burial was in Littleton cemetery.

Roger Helms Jr.

Roger L. Helms Jr., 30, of 90 Country Elms Estates, Galesburg, Illinois, passed away at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, January 10, 1999, at his home.

Born October 13, 1968, in Macomb to Roger L. Sr. and Mary L. Gilmore Helms, he married Connie L. Myrick on August 12, 1989, in Knoxville. She survives.

Also surviving are his parents of Galesburg; one stepson, Shawn Duerre at home; one stepdaughter, Jennifer Duerre at home; and one sister, Mrs. Timothy (Virginia) Gilberg, of Abingdon.

He was employed as a driver for City Cab Company.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Gary Burnett officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Hamlet cemetery in Hamlet.

John K. Bohlander

John K. Bohlander, age 89, of 688 Oak Street, Galesburg, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Friday, January 8, 1999 in Veteran’s Administration Medical Center, Danville.

He was born December 2, 1909, in Mommouth, the son of John Adam and Mary Alice Keane Bohlander.

He married Julia Enes. She preceded him in death. He married Alberta Sopher on August 29, 1976, in Galesburg.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Vicki Ann Mohr, Davie, Florida; one step-daughter Myrna L. Johnson, Cameron; two step-sons, Stanley R. Sopher, Galesburg, and Jon M.Sopher, Knoxville; one sister, Helen Jackson, Tucson, Arizona; and one granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

He was graduated from Monmouth High School. He worked 28 years as a truck driver and dock foremen for Burlington Truck Lines, retiring December 1, 1973. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He served in the Army 141st Field Artillery, Camp Sutton, North Carolina, for about six years. He was a member of the Galesburg Moose Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2257, and a lifetime member of American Legion Post 285.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Home with Rev. James McAteer officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Catholic cemetery, Monmouth. Memorials may be made to Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Galesburg.

Peggy L. Williamson

Peggy L. Williamson, 69, Bushnell, passed away at 11:25 a.m. Friday, January 8, 1999, in the emergency room at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

Born November 7, 1929, in Swan Creek to Claude M. and Grace J. Scott McCance, she married H. Robert Williamson on September 24, 1949, in Bushnell. He survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Rodney of Avon and Robert of Bremerton, WA; one daughter, Rhonda Edmonson of London Mills; three brothers, Glenn McCance, Eugene McCance and Gaylord McCance, all of Bushnell; three sisters, Josephine Sorrells, Nola Avery and Theda Trout, all of Bushnell; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Three brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.

She was a member of TOPS.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Martin-Hollis Funeral Home with the Rev. L.G. Glenn officiating. Burial was in Bushnell cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Bushnell-Prairie City School Foundation.

Florence E. Higgins

Florence E. Higgins, age 90, formerly of Kirkwood, died at 7:55 a.m. Tuesday January 5, 1999 in LaMoine Christian Nursing Home, Roseville.

She was born October 23, 1908, in Wauconda, the daughter of William and Mary Underwood Harris.

She married Harold Higgins on October 5, 1929, in Lake Bluff. He died April 26, 1984.

Surviving are one daughter, Caroline Krug, Kirkwood; one sister, Madelene Lill, Monmouth; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson.

She was reared and educated in Wauconda, Lake Bluff and Deerfield. She was a homemaker.

She worked at the Lake Bluff Library for 20 years before moving to Kirkwood in 1971.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth, with the Rev. Dave Berry officiating. Burial was in Warren County Memorial Park cemetery, Monmouth. Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, Kirkwood, and to LaMoine Christian Nursing Home.

Harry O’Bryant

Harry O’Bryant, 97, Renaissance Care Center, Canton, formerly of Lewistown, passed away at 12:10 p.m. Friday, December 25, 1998, at Graham Hospital in Canton. Born August 12, 1901, in rural Bryant to William and Sophia Foster O’Bryant, he married Tressie Wilcoxen on October 6, 1923, in Lewistown. She passed away August 22, 1973. Four brothers and three sisters also preceded him in death. Surviving are one daughter, Elva Bainter of Canton; one son, Clinton of Havana; one brother, Paul of Memphis, TN; three sisters, Annabelle Black of Milford, VA, Coralee Gardner of Hurst, TX, and Evelyn Chewning of Roseville; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. He was a farmer and a member of Havana Church of the Nazarene. Services were held Tuesday, December 28, at Henry Memorial Home in Lewistown with the Rev. Wesley Burns officiating. Burial was in White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton. Memorials may be made to his church.

Wayne R. Meadows

Wayne R. Meadows, age 87, of Gerlaw, passed away at 11:45 p.m. Thursday, January 7, 1999 in Community Medical Center, Monmouth.

He was born September 10, 1911, in Berwick, the son of Harvey Herschel and Maude Ross Meadows. He married 'Bobbie' Miller on April 2, 1938, in Monmouth.

Surviving are his wife; one niece, Donna Hallam, of near Monmouth; two great-nieces; two great-nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one nephew.

He was reared and educated in the Berwick area, and attended Alexis High School. He was a World War II veteran. He worked at Butler Manufacturing Company, Galesburg, for many years. He retired 25 years ago. He was a member of Gerlaw Christian Church, where he served as deacon for many years. He was a member of the Alexis Masonic Lodge. He was president, secretary and sexton of Gerlaw cemetery.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Turnbull Funeral Home, Monmouth with Rev. Paul Lydic officiating. Burial was in Gerlaw cemetery. Memorials may be made to Gerlaw Christian Church.
