W. Carlos Adams

W. Carlos Adams, age 81, of Rocky Mountain, Missouri, formerly of Roseville, passed away at 5:15 a.m. Friday, January 1, 1998, at Lake of the Ozarks Hospital in Missouri. Born October 25, 1917, in Brassfield, Kentucky to Morris and Lucy Mae Golden Adams, he married Marguerite Adair on August 11, 1940, in Kirkwood. She died December 26, 1989. One son, William, two sisters and one brother also preceded him in death. Surviving are two daughters, Sandra Carlson of Eldon, Missouri; and Carol Kerr of Topeka, Kansas; two brothers, Pete of Peoria and Robert of Oquawka; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A World War II Navy veteran, he was a member of Roseville American Legion Post 614 and 40 et 8 in Monmouth. A member of the Electrical Workers Union in Peoria, he was a project manager for electrical contractors. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Corman Memorial Home in Roseville. Burial was in Roseville Memorial Park cemetery, where military rites were conducted by his American Legion post. Memorials may be made to the Roseville American Legion Nursing Scholarship.

Betty Thomas

Betty Ann Thomas, 74, of 300 North Jefferson, Abingdon, Illinois, formerly of Havana and St. Cloud, Florida, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Friday, January 1, 1999, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Galesburg. Born November 25, 1924, in Lewistown to Fred Willis and Pearl Madeline Krider Mustered, she married Billy Dean Thomas on June 4, 1953, in Hillsboro. He died October 21, 1995. Two brothers and three sisters also preceded her in death. Surviving are three daughters, Carol Morse of DeLong, Patti Jo Daugherty and Lisa Thomas Gregory, both of St. Cloud; one son, Billy Dean II of Ashland, Mo.; two sisters, Bobbie Boggs of Havana and Frances Benns of St, David; five grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hopedale. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Hurley Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Burial was in Laurel Hill cemetery.

Jessie L. Wright

Jessie L. Wright, age 93, a resident of Seminary Manor in Galesburg, formerly of Abingdon, passed away at 11:48 a.m. Friday, January 1, 1999, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, Illinois. She was born September 15, 1905 in RR St. Augustine, Illinois the daughter of Fred N. and Birdie May Wickline McGuire. She married Claire Palmer in Peoria in 1928. He preceded her in death on December 8, 1950. She married Harold Brady Wright on July 20, 1968 in Abingdon. He died in 1975. She is survived by cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was graduated from Abingdon High School and the former Brown’s Business College in Galesburg. She was a secretary and bookkeeper for the former Globe Manufacturing Company in Abingdon and later for the Abingdon Pottery until retiring in 1971. She was a member of Abingdon Congregational Church since 1923 where she had served as church clerk. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel, Abingdon with Jon Prain officiating. Burial was in the Abingdon cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Congregational Church.

Richard D. 'Pop-up' Andrews

Richard D. 'Pop-up' Andrews, age 61, of Biloxi, Mississippi, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 1998 at the Keesler Air Force Base Medical Center in Biloxi, Mississippi. He was born May 11, 1937, the son of Wilford and Cora (Blanche) McCullough Andrews. He married Frances M. Quinn who survives. He is survived by his wife, of Biloxi, Mississippi, three daughters, Ginger Smith and Julie Garner, both of Olive Branch, Mississippi and Deana Tolbert of Owenton, Kentucky and five grandchildren. He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1955. He was retired from the Air Force where he served as a Tech Sgt. He had lived on the coast for 25 years. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 33 and the V.F.W. Post 2484 where he served as a Chaplain. He was also a life member of the Air Force Sergeant’s Association, and a member of the Moose Lodge in D’Iberville, Mississippi. He was of the Protestant faith. Funeral services were held Monday, January 4, 1999 at Howard Ave. Chapel of Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi, Mississippi with a Chaplain from the Air Force officiating. Burial was in the Biloxi National cemetery, Biloxi, Mississippi.

Alice Dilts

Alice F. Dilts, age 90, a resident of the Wesley Village Health Care Center in Macomb, passed away at 4:40 a.m. on Sunday, January 3, 1999 at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb. She was born on January 12, 1908 in Mound Twp., Illinois the daughter of Eck and Anna Hoke Johnson. She married Harry E. Dilts on February 15, 1930 in Macomb, he preceded her in death on September 26, 1989. She is survived by her two nieces Mrs. Herschel (Juanita ) Bryan of Macomb, and Cheryl Bryan of Arlington Heights, Illinois. Mrs. Marge Hovell and Carrie Lomax, both of Abingdon, are her sister-in-laws. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one sister Bessie Harmon. She moved from Bardolph to Macomb in 1947 where she worked for Scripps-Reno in Macomb for many years before her retirement. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Macomb Order of Eastern Star, Homebuilders Sunday School Class, and the Macomb Rocking Chair Club. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday at the Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb with Rev. Lori Harvey officiating. Burial will be in the Bushnell cemetery in Bushnell. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until time of the service on Saturday at the Funeral Home, where the family will meet with friends one hour prior to services. Memorials may be made to the Wesley Village Health Care Center in Macomb.

Edward Glenn 'Bud' Baxter Jr.

Edward Glenn 'Bud' Baxter Jr., age 78, of 841 Knox Road 450 East Abingdon, Illinois passed away Monday, December 28, 1998 at 2:25 p.m. at his home in rural Abingdon, Illinois. Born October 26, 1920 in Canton, Illinois, he was the son of Edward Glenn and Elizabeth Haynes Baxter Sr. He married Imogene M. 'Jean' Peterson on September 20, 1941 in Kahoka, Missouri. She preceded him in death on March 2, 1998. Survivors include one daughter, Vickie Lundstrom of Marquette Heights, Illinois; four sisters, Mrs. Harold (Vera) Becker of Knoxville; Helen Brentlinger of Galesburg, Berniece 'Dolly' Sosh, and Mrs. Paul (Charlotte 'Duke') Lear, both of Knoxville; 3 nieces and 1 nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, one brother and one niece. He was raised and educated in Knoxville where he lived before moving to rural Abingdon 23 years ago. He worked in the coal mines in Knox County and at the former Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad and also at the Admiral Corporation a Division of Maytag Corporation as an assembler retiring from there in 1985. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a former member of the American Legion. Cremation rites were accorded. Hurd Hendrick Funeral Home in Knoxville, Illinois, was in charge of the arrangements. Interment of the cremains will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donors choice.

Harry Mussatto

Harry F. Mussatto, age 77, of 301 N. Quailwalk Road, Macomb, passed away at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, 1998, at LaMoine Christian Nursing Home in Roseville. Born October 18, 1921, in Sesser to Thomas F. and Albina Enama Mussatto, he married Martha Sutton on December 2, 1962. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Thomas of Macomb; three daughters, Michele Mussatto of Chicago, Renee Mussatto of Bloomingdale and Mrs. Randy (Lisa) Grissom of Maryland Heights, Mo.; one brother, John of Highwood; one sister, Eileen Hemmeter, of Milwaukee; and several nieces and nephews. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of the Highland Park High School state champion ship golf teams in 1939 and 1940 and a four year letterman and three-time captain of the Illinois State University golf team. He was the men’s golf coach at Western Illinois University for 35 years. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University and his master’s degree at WIU. From 1952 to 1970, his golf teams held the longest home-winning streak in the nation with 95 straight wins. He retired in 1985. He received the Western Illinois Distinguished Alumni Award and the Illinois State Distinguished Alumni Award. He was a member of the Western Illinois and Illinois State Hall of Fame. An amateur golfer, he qualified for the USGA Senior Amateur events in Seattle in 1981 and in Tucson, Arizona, in 1982. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Green officiating. Burial was in Moss Ridge cemetery in Carthage. Memorials may be made to the Harry Mussatto Golf Scholarship Fund at WIU or LaMoine Christian Nursing Home.

Linda S. Henderson

Linda S. Henderson, 44, of Fairview, passed away at 5:20 a.m. Wednesday December 30, 1998 in Graham Hospital Extended Care, Canton. She was born June 13, 1954 in Avon, the daughter of Hendry 'Hank' and L. June Gillette Bennet. Surviving are her mother, of Fairview; five sons, Scott Trone, Peoria, Kirk Trone, Morton, and Todd and Cory Trone and Kyle Henderson, all of Fairview; one stepdaughter, Jennifer Henderson, Peoria; two brothers, Gary Bennet, Harrisburg, Pa., and John Bennett, London Mills; two sisters, Barbara Needham, Springfield, and Nancy Crouse, Fairview, and one grandchild. She was preceded in death by her father. She was an administrator for several years for Lindenwood Health Care Center, Peoria. Cremation was accorded. Rev. Carol Stufflebeam officiated in the services held Saturday, January 2nd, 1999 in Oaks-Hines Funeral Home, Canton. Burial of the ashes were in Fairview cemetery. Memorials may be made to an education fund for her son, Kyle Henderson, in care of Fairview State Bank.

Wanda Ford

Wanda Sue Ford, age 60, Tipton, formerly of Galesburg, Illinois, passed away at 2:30 p.m. December 20, 1998, in Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa. She was born January 29, 1938, in Brashear, Missouri, the daughter of Orville and Edna James. She married Herb Ford in July 1998. Surviving are her husband; her mother, in Galesburg; three daughters, Sandy Krouse and Pam Woode, both of Tipton, and Tammy Hightown, Rochester, Iowa; one son, Terry Clarkson, Tipton; three brothers, Bill and Howard James, both of Galesburg, and Bob James, St. Augustine, Illinois; one sister, Betty Tribley, Wright City, Mo.; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and three brothers. Funeral services were held December 22 in Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Burial was in Tipton cemetery.

Lois Morey

Lois Morey, 95, London Mills, passed away at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 1998 in Avon Nursing Home, Avon. She was born February 17, 1903, in Fairview, the daughter of Frank and Ollie Baker Abbadusky. She married Frank H. Morey on June 6, 1928, in London Mills. He died September 9, 1991. Surviving are one son, Marnell Morey, Galesburg; two granddaughters and three great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister. She moved to London Mills in 1916. She was graduated from London Mills High School, and attended Western Illinois State Teacher’s College, Macomb. She was a substitute teacher at London Mills Grade School, and taught in rural country schools before attending college. She was a member of London Mills United Methodist Church. Funeral services were held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in London Mills United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Lyle Leverton and Rick Kerr officiating. Corman Memorial Home in London Mills was in charge of the arrangements. Burial was in Midway cemetery Memorials may be made to the London Mills United Methodist Church and to Moody Bible Institute’s Radio Station WDLM.

Betty R. McGahey

Betty R. McGahey, 68, Galesburg, passed away at 10:10 p.m. Saturday, December 26, 1998, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. Born February 15, 1930, in Greenbush Township, Warren County, to Cecil L. and Opal B. Damitz Price, she married Jay D. McGahey on February 15, 1946, in Galesburg. He survives. Also surviving are one son, Stanley of Guam; one daughter, C. Diane Holder of Buffalo Grove; two brothers, Robert Price of Newville, AL, and Ronald Price of Vandalia; one sister, Linda Chandler of Kirbyville, MO; and three grandsons. She attended Carl Sandburg College. She was a member and past secretary of the Knox County Humane Society. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Galesburg. Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with the Rev. John Carlson officiating. Burial was in Olive cemetery in Avon. Memorials may be made to her church or the Knox County Humane Society.

Richard Grant Waymack

Richard Grant Waymack, 70, of 312 S. Lafayette St., Macomb, died at 6:07 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, in his home.

He was born Sept. 28, 1928, at Macomb to James and Myrtle (John) Waymack. He married Barbara Jean Crawford at Macomb on April 22, 1950. She survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Phillip and James.

Other survivors include sons Kevin (Suanne) of St. Louis and Daniel of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughters Susan (Jerry) Weinmann of Scandinavia, Wis., Ann (Scott) Hess of Bushnell, Lisa Johnson of St. Louis, Barbara (John) Myers of Galesburg, Mary (Kirk) Wesley of Macomb; brother Edward of Springfield, Mo.; sister Carole Lynn Hoover of Sioux City, Iowa; and 12 grandchildren.

Mr. Waymack was active in the Boys Scouts of America Troop 332 and graduated from Macomb High School in 1947. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of Gen. McArthur’s Honor Guard in Japan.

He was an industrial engineer for King Seeley Thermos in Macomb and Batesville, Miss., for 38 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of Ducks Unlimited.

He was also a member of the Western Illinois Senior Golf Association and a member of St. Paul Catholic Church at Macomb.

Services were Sept. 25 in St. Paul Church at Macomb with Father Richard Pricco officiating. Burial was in St. Paul cemetery at Macomb.

Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to either the St. Paul Church Building Fund or McDonough District Hospital Hospice Program.

A. Claire Becker

Mr. A. Claire Becker, age 82, of 801 West Martin Street, Abingdon, formerly of Galesburg, passed away at 2:01 a.m. Saturday, August 21, 1999 at the Abingdon Care Center.

He was born November 25, 1916 in New London, Iowa, the son of Jasper C. and Leah Kinkead Becker. He married Frances Chinn on March 29, 1942 in Macon, Missouri. She preceded him in death in June of 1997.

Survivors include two sons, Karl Becker, Phoenix, Arizona and Paul Becker, Galesburg; one daughter, Linda Krupps, Abingdon; one sister, Eileen Goldrick, Silver Springs, Maryland and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

He was a Tool and Die Maker at the former Gale Products division of Outboard Marine Corporation for 41 years. He retired in December of 1980.

He graduated from Galesburg High School.

He was of the Methodist faith.

He was a 50 year member of Alpha Masonic Lodge #155 AF& AM.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Park cemetery, Galesburg with Mrs. Eleanor Landon officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Association.
