BIELFELDT, Fred H.

The funeral for Fred H. Bielfeldt, 92, of Anchor, who died Monday 10-15-1984 will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor; the Rev. Melvin Blobaum officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. today at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax, and for one hour before the service at the church. A Christian prayer service will be at 8 tonight at the memorial home. Mr. Bielfeldt was born 3-17-1892 in Anchor, a son of Frederick and Wilhelmine Maria Niesche Bielfeldt. He married Maria E. Riecks on 3-14-1912 in Anchor. She died 11-30-1983. Survivors include three sons, Edwin, of Anchor; Harold, Bloomington; and Rodell, Gibson City; a daughter, Marjorie Cumpston, Anchor; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A son, two brothers and six sisters preceded him in death. Mr. Bielfeldt was a retired farmer. He resided in Florida during the winter months for the last 20 years. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor; Anchor School Board; Anchor Grain Board for more than 40 years; the board of directors of United Grain Association; and the board of Rural Electrification Association. He was a lifetime member of McLean County Farm Bureau, a member of St. John's Lutheran Church council, and a member of Senior Citizens Bowling League at Gibson City for four years. In August 1983 he received a Senior Citizens championship bowling award. Memorials may be made to his church.

GOMIEN, John Richard

September 13, 1997, Peoria Journal Star, Page: D7 COLFAX -- John Richard Gomien, 82, of Bethesda, Md., formerly of Colfax, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 1997, at his home. Born May 15, 1915, in Opheim, Mont., to Harry and Yarda Gomien, he married Glee DeVore. She survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Dee Ann Gretz of Vienna, Va., Danice Moore of New York City and Donna Gomien of Oslo, Norway; one brother, Robert of Morton; and one granddaughter. He graduated from Gallagher Business College in Kankakee and earned his bachelor's degree from Strayer College of Accountancy in Washington, D.C., in 1944. He began as executive secretary to representative Everett Dirksen in 1940 and was administrative assistant to Senator Dirksen from 1951 until his death in 1969. He was administrative assistant to Sen. Ralph Smith from 1969 to 1970. He then was special assistant to Sen. Robert Taft from 1970 to 1976. He was a member of Concord-St. Andrews Methodist Church. Services were Wednesday at his church. Cremation has been accorded, and burial was in the church garden. Arrangements were by Robert A. Pumphrey Funeral Home in Bethesda. Memorials may be made to his church, 5910 Goldsboro Road, Bethesda, Md. 20817.

GROSS, Myrtle Louise

Myrtle Louise Gross, 91, of Colfax died at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday 8-27-2003 at Heritage Manor, Colfax. Service: 11 a.m. today at St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor Rev. Stephen Goodwin officiating. Burial: Church cemetery Visitation: 10 - 11 a.m. today at the church Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax in charge of arrangements. Survivors: husband, Myron C. Gross, Colfax two daughters, Mardelle (Richard) Retzloff, Bay Village, Ohio Marla (Jim) Hoffman, Colfax one son, Mickey (Anita) Gross, Houston two sisters, Olga Elmer, Monroe Wis. Betty Larson, South Beloit sister-in-law, Florence Gudmunson, Somonaulk; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

GUSE, Betty J. McWhorter

The funeral of Betty J. Guse, age 60, of Colfax, was at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Anchor. The Reverend Melvin Blobaum officiated with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation was from 5 - 8 p.m. Friday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax and from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the church. Mrs. Guse died at 3:37 p.m. Wednesday 4-20-1994 at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal. She was born 2-1-1934 in Verona, a daughter of Fred L. and Alta M. Kizzee McWhorter. She married Edward H. Guse on 8-31-1974 in Anchor and he survives. Other survivors include two step-daughters, Susan Lott of Foosland and Deanna Hamlow of Colfax; two sisters, Judith A. McDaniel of Chenoa and Glenda Powell of Pontiac; one brother, Freddie C. McWhorter of Bloomington and three step-grandchildren. Three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. Mrs. Guse, a former resident of the Ellsworth area, had lived in Colfax for 19 years. She was a homemaker and was a nurses' aide at Octavia Manor in Colfax for 10 years. Mrs. Guse was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Memorials may be made to her church or to the Eastern McLean County Ambulance Association.

GUSE, Otto Carl

The funeral of Otto Carl Guse, 92, Colfax, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Anchor, with the Rev. Alexander Youck officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by David-Kerber American Legion Post 653, Colfax. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 p.m. today at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax, and from 1 - 2 p.m. Friday at the church. Mr. Guse, a retired blacksmith and road commissioner, died at 6:20 p.m. Tuesday 8-12-1986 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Bloomington. He was born 9-12-1893 in Anchor, a son of Karl and Claudina Schmidt Guse. He married Nellie Elizabeth Berlet on 2-18-1920 in Gibson City. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Edward, Colfax; three daughters, Evelyn Beecher, Colfax; Helen Kemple, Gibson City and Lucille Reeves, South Bend, Ind.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. One son, two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. Mr. Guse was a resident of the Cropsey area from 1932 - 1948 and was a blacksmith and road commissioner. He had been a resident of Colfax since August 1948 and retired from the Farmers Oil & Supply Co. of Colfax and the Colfax Block Plant. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. An Army Veteran of WWI, he was a member of Davis-Kerber American Legion Post 653.

BIELFELDT, Grace L. Gilmore

Grace L. Bielfeldt, 80, a resident of Heartland Health Care Center, Paxton, and formerly of the Sibley area, died at 8:55 a.m. yesterday 1-17-1990 at Gibson Community Hospital, Gibson City. Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor, the Rev. Melvin Blobaum officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. Friday at Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, and one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. She was born 8-4-1909 at Gibson City, the daughter of Sam and Sarah Swearingen Gilmore. She married Fred G. Bielfeldt 3-16-1927 at Gibson City. He died 12-14-1984. Surviving are one son, Ronald, Sibley; three daughters, Camilla Lohmeyer, Strawn; Carol Boyle, Klamath Falls, Ore.; and Beverly Meginnes, Towanda; eight grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Clarence Gilmore, Saint Charles; Sam Gilmore, Elburn; and Virgil Gilmore, Sugar Grove and a sister, Myrtle Bielfeldt, Anchor. A brother, a sister, a step-sister and a grandson preceded her in death. Mrs. Bielfeldt lived most her life in the Sibley area. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Anchor, Dorcas Women, the Garber Club and the Anchor Club. She was a 30-year volunteer with the Gibson Community Hospital Auxiliary. Memorials may be made to her church.

GARNER, John Wesley

April 29, 1893 - Squire Garner Drops Dead on Railroad Track - Saturday afternoon J. W. Garner and family were returning from Farmer City, where they had been to visit a sick daughter. At the Wiley school house a mile west of town Mr. Garner complained of being cold and got out to walk the rest of the way on the railroad, about 200 yards distant. He reached the railroad and had one but a short distance when he fell, his feet laying on the track and his head in the ditch, his tracks showing that he had walked straight and naturally up to the spot where he fell. B. F. Fincham happened along very soon and Mart Williams and others directly afterwards. The lifeless body was loaded on a handcar and brought to town but little later than the family arrived in the carriage. Coroner Hare came up Sunday morning and summoned a jury consisting of Wm. Payne, A. H. Cooper, James Fielding, W. O. Wilson, Thos. Clow, and Henry Willhoite, who heard a number of witnesses and returned a verdict of death by heart disease. It was developed that he had shown symptoms of heart trouble for two years past. Mr. Garner was 61 years old and was born in Cass county coming to McLean couty when a young man. He came to Colfax from West township eleven years ago, and at the time of his death was proprietor of the Hotel de Grand. He was a school director, and was just finishing his second term as justice of the peace. He was also a local preacher of the Methodist church. In 1852 he was married to Lucy Carver. Two children were born to them, when the wife died. His second wife was Miss M. A. Downing, by whom he has eight children. The wife and all the children survive. They are: Wm. Garner, Mrs. C. Wolcott and Ira Garner of Nebraska; Joe and Vallie Garner, of Iroquois county; Mrs. Carrie Davis, of Farmer City, and Mrs. Lida McAuley, Mrs. Della Rummell, Mary and Elton Garner, of Colfax. The funeral was conducted Tuesday morning by Rev. King at the M. E. church. School was dismissed and the flag on the schoolhouse hung at half mast. The community has been greatly shocked by the occurrence, and the sick daughter

GILMORE, Anna Katherina Clausen

Anna Gilmore, 92, a Sibley native and resident of Gibson City for eight years, died at 7 p.m. Wednesday 1-2-1980 at Gibson Community Hospital. Her funeral was at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lamb Funeral Home, the Rev, Alexander Youck officiating with burial in the St. John's Lutheran cemetery, near Anchor, Il. Pallbearers were John Schroeder, Jr., Ronald Bielfeldt, Donald Bielfeldt, Gary Gilmore, John Gilmore and Steve Gilmore. Mrs. Gilmore was born 6-25-1887, Sibley, Il., a daughter of John and Mary Brading Clausen. She married George Wichmann 1-6-1925 at Anchor, Il. He died 8-22-1939. She married Samuel Gilmore 2-14-1925. He died ` in 1939. Surviving are a daughter, Pearl Wichmann, with whom she made her home; two step-daughters, Grace Bielfeldt of Sibley, Il. and Myrtle Bielfeldt of Anchor, Il.; four step-sons, Clarence Gilmore of St. Charles, Il., Sam Gilmore of Elburn, Il, Virgil Gilmore of Sugar Grove, Il. and Arthur Gilmore, Bradenton, Fl., three sisters, Augusta Molck of Anchor, Il., Luella Martens and Ida Hansen of Sibley, Il; 34 step-grandchildren; and many step-great-grandchildren. A step-daughter, four brothers, a sister and several step-grandchildren preceded her in death. Mrs. Gilmore was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor, Il.

GUSE, Nellie Elizabeth Berlet

Nellie Elizabeth Guse, 96, died at 7:35 a.m. 4-26-1990 at Octavia Nursing Home, Colfax, where she had been a resident since 1986. Pallbearers were Leland Lott, Mick Kingsley, Jimmy Monroe, Donald Beecher, Ellryn Rocke and Mike Reeves. Her funeral was at 2 p.m Sunday at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Anchor. Rev. Melvin Blobaum officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Visitation was from 5 - 8 p.m. Saturday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax, with a prayer service at 8 p.m.; and for one hour before the service at the church Sunday. Mrs. Guse was born 12-14-1893 in Chatsworth, a daughter of Henry and Martha Wurmnest Berlet. She married Otto Carl Guse on 2-18-1920 in Gibson City. He died 8-12-1986. Surviving are a son, Edward, Colfax; three daughters, Evelyn Beecher, Colfax; Helen Kemple, Gibson City; and Lucille Reeves South Bend, Ind.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, three brothers, and three sisters. Mrs. Guse was a lifetime resident to the Colfax area. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Anchor, to which memorials may be made.

BIELFELDT, Harold F.

Harold F. Bielfeldt, age 83 of Bloomington died at 1:15 p.m. Friday 5-4-2001. His funeral service was at 1 p.m. May 8 at St. John's Lutheran Church of rural Anchor with the Rev. Melvin Blobaum officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with military rites accorded by the Colfax American Legion Davis Kerber Post 653. Visitation was from 4 - 7 p.m. May 7 at the Metzler-Froelich Memorial Home in Bloomington and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to his church. Mr. Bielfeldt was born 10-5-1917 in Anchor, the son of Fred and Maria Riecks Bielfeldt. He married Bessie Lage on 9-14-1947 in Anchor and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Janet (Ted) Harms of Greenwood Village, Colo.; Carmen (David) Burns of Champaign; two brothers, Edwin (Lois) Bielfeldt of Anchor and Rodell (Audrey) Bielfeldt of Gibson City; one sister, Marjorie Cumpston of Anchor; five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother in infancy. Mr. Bielfeldt was a livestock and grain farmer in Anchor until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of rural Anchor and the Anchor American Legion Post 164. A WWII Army Veteran, Mr. Bielfeldt served in the Pacific Theater where he obtained the rank of sergeant.

Marie E. Bielfeldt, 91, Anchor, died at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday 11-30-1983 at Octavia Manor Nursing Home, Colfax. Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor, the Rev. Melvin Blobaum and the Rev. Alexander Youck officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. today at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax, and for an hour before the service Saturday at the church. She was born 6-7-1892, in Anchor, a daughter of Edward and Elize George Riecks. She married Fred Bielfeldt 3-14-1912 in Anchor. He survives. Surviving also are three sons, Edwin of Anchor; Harold of Bloomington and Rodell of Gibson City; a daughter, Marjorie Cumpston, of Anchor; four sisters, Anne Marrin and Lillian Larson, both of Bloomington; Irma Mueller, Westminister, Ca.; and Rita Riecks, San Angelo, Ca.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. A brother, two sisters and a son preceded her in death. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, a charter member of the Dorcas Society and was a 4-H leader for a number of years. She was a lifetime Anchor area resident.
