HUFFORD, Millard F. "Wienie"

COLFAX -- Millard F. "Wienie" Hufford, 66, of Colfax died at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1993, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington. Born Nov. 19, 1926, in Gardena to David and Bertha Moore Hufford, he married Eunice K. Stieglitz on Aug. 14, 1947, in Morton. She survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Lynn McGowan of Peoria, Sandra Meyer of West Chester, Pa., Teresa Lovett of Lincoln, Neb., and Susan Murray of Bloomington; one sister, Eva Egli of East Peoria; and eight grandchildren. One brother and one infant sister preceded him in death. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He owned and operated Wiener's Restaurant in Colfax. He formerly owned the Ben Franklin and Clothing Store in Colfax. He worked at Schwenk Supermarket in Morton and was a bus driver for Colfax High School for nine years. He was a member of the Colfax Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5921 of Morton and Colfax American Legion Davis-Kerber Post 653. He was a member of Colfax Christian Church, where services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Stephanie Curran will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home. Burial will be in Wiley cemetery, where full military rites will be accorded by the Colfax American Legion. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or his church.

BRIGGS, Charles Richard (Dick)

Charles R. (Dick) Briggs, 21, died about 6:24 p.m. Sunday 4-26-1960 in the hospital at Great Lakes Naval Training Center, as the result of injuries suffered in an accident March 15. He had been a patient at Great Lakes since March 28. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m Thursday at the Methodist Church with the Lamb Funeral Home in charge. Rev. Floy Ekin, pastor of the Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Gibson cemetery. Pallbearers will be service men of Chanute Air Force Base. Honorary pallbearers are Don Brokate, Larry Smith, David Yates, Michael Day, Richard Rosenbaum and John Marshall. He was born 2-28-1939 in Bloomington, a son of Harley and Marjorie Grant Briggs. He graduated from Gibson High School in 1957, where he won three varsity football letters. He enlisted in the Marine Corps 8-17-1957, and had been in Okinawa prior to his leave at home. Surviving are his parents; a brother, Tom, of Gibson City; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Briggs, Gibson City; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Grant of Saybrook and many aunts and uncles. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

BRUCKER, Augusta Stubbe Herrmann

Augusta Brucker, 94, of Gibson City died at 6 a.m. yesterday 4-1-1984 at Bartmann Nursing Home, Atlanta. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at American Lutheran Church, Gibson City, the Rev. Karl Kessler officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran cemetery, near Anchor. Visitation will be from 3 - 5 p.m. today at Lamb Funeral Home, and an hour before the service at the church. She was born 3-4-1890 at Poszin, Germany, a daughter of Herman and Augusta Stubbe. She married Arthur Herrmann in 1913 in Germany. He died in 1920. She married John L. Brucker 5-23-1925 at Anchor. He died 5-15-1951. Survivors include a daughter, Gertrude Modahl, Bloomington; a step-daughter, Alice Acree, Gibson City; a stepson, Herbert Brucker, Sibley; four step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren. Two daughters and a step-daughter preceded her in death. Mr. Brucker was a member of American Lutheran Church and Amearican Lutheran Church Women. Memorials may be made to her church.

CALHOUN, H. Borden

H. Borden Calhoun, Former Resident of Bloomington, Dead - H. Borden Calhoun, 47 former Bloomington resident, died at his home in Los Angeles, Thursday, according to word received by relatives here Friday. No particulars were received as to the cause of the death or of funeral arrangements. He had lived in the west since 1906. Mr. Calhoun was the oldest son of Louis K. and Mary Welch Calhoun and was born in Bloomington, April 23, 1881. He attended the public schools here, graduating from Bloomington high school with the class of 1899. He was a prominent member of the Masonic fraternity during his residence here and was a member of the Shrine at Peoria. During the Spanish-American war he served with the Fifth Illinois Volunteer infantry, being a bugler on the staff of Col. Culver. He entered the service of the Chicago and Alton railroad as a fireman and was shortly thereafter promoted to an engineer, at that time one of the youngest engineers in their service. He was married in June, 1910 to Mrs. Bertha Weeks and to this union two children were born, a daughter, Mary Margaret, 11 and a son, Thomas 13, who with their mother survive. He also leaves three brothers John F. Calhoun, 112 W. Locust St. (Bloomington, Il.), Louis K. Calhoun of Los Angeles and Everett M. Calhoun of Des Moines, Iowa and one sister, Mrs. Ella Calhoun Cantrell also of Des Moines. He was a member of the First Methodist Church here.

CARLSON, Kenneth

LeRoy - Kenneth M. Carlson, 55, of LeRoy died at 8:40 a.m. yesterday 3-6-1992 at his residence. The McLean County coroner's office is investigating. No foul play is suspected. His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, LeRoy, the Rev. Jerry McNemee officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery, LeRoy. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. He was born 3-3-1937, at Ellsworth, the son of Albert and Fenella Roberts Carlson. He married Virginia Phillips 11-22, 1967, in LeRoy. She survives. Other survivors include two stepdaughters, Sandra Shelton, Saybrook, and Karen Hawthorne, Saybrook; three brothers, Lyle Carlson, LeRoy, Lowell Carlson, Lexington, and Darrel Carlson, Normal; two sisters, Barbara Cooper St. Ann, Mo., and Alice Carlson, Bloomington; and five stepgrandchildren. His parents preceded him in death. Mr. Carlson worked for 39 years for Doyle Oil Co., Ellsworth. He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict and a graduate of Ellsworth High School Class of 1955. Memorials may be made to LeRoy Emergency Ambulance Service or a charity of the donor's choice.

CHRISTENSEN, Emelia Hovick

Emelia Christensen, 87, of Fairbury died at 5:50 a.m. Wednesday 7-13-1994 at Livingston Manor Nursing Home, Pontiac. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairbury, the Rev. David Natzke officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran cemetery, Anchor. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. Friday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and an hour before the service Saturday at the Church. Mrs. Christensen was born 3-4-1907 in Madison, Minn. a daughter of Nels and Susan Warra Hovick. She married Henry J. Christensen 6-8-1929 in Bloomington. He died 3-23-1967. Surviving are three sons, Eldon, Marion; Robert, Aurora; and Dale, Libertyville; two daughters, Clarice Ward, Fairbury, and Ruth Surber, Praire Du Sac, Wis.; one brother, Rudy Hovick, Sartell, Minn.; one sister, Ingred Hovick, Washington DC; 19 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. Mrs. Christensen was a graduate of Clarkfield MN High School and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She farmed and was owner/operator of Christensen Cozy Corner Restaurant and Gas Station in Fisher for many years. She moved to Fairbury in 1960 and worked in many local restaurants until her retirement. Mrs. Christensen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairbury, and taught Sunday school for many years. Memorials may be made to the church, Livingston Manor Nursing Home, Pontiac, or Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders, Bloomington.

CHRISTENSEN, Herman C.

Herman C. Christensen, 74, of Roanoke died at 4:50 p.m. Friday 11-28-1981 at Eureka Hospital where he had been a patient since November 25. His funeral was Monday at 10:30 a.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church, near Anchor, the Rev. Alexander Youck officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Christensen was born 4-16-1907 in Sibley, a son of Thomas and Sophia Boettger Christensen. He married Marie Petersen 12-15-1929 at Galesburg. She died 8-19-1966. He married Pauline Laesch Porth 12-23-1973. She survives. Also surviving are a son, David R. of Anchor; five daughters, Genevieve Young, Vista, Ca.; Lois Rhodes, Bonnie Dewey, Betty L. Knapp and Julia Summers all of Gibson City; a step-son, Edward Porth of Roanoke; a step-daughter, Beverly Wacker of Roanoke; two brothers, Andrew of Portland, Mich.; and Floyd of Waterloo, Wis.; one sister, Dorothy Hillary of Melvin; 17 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, a step-granddaughter; two brothers and two half-brothers. Mr. Christensen was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Anchor, St. John's Lutheran Brotherhood and the McLean Co. Farm Bureau. He farmed most of his life in the Sibley - Anchor area. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.

CHRISTENSEN, John H.

The funeral services of Mr. John H. Christensen took place Monday noon at Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City and at 1 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church. Rev. A. Hahn officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. The services were well attended in spite of bad roads and weather. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. b. 8-19-1896 s/o Thomas and Anna Brandt Christensen d. 12-9-1929

CHRISTENSEN, Joshua R.

Funeral service for Joshua R. Christensen, 3, of RR 1 Anchor was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday 9-4-1982 at St. John's Lutheran Chruch south of Anchor. Rev. Melvin C. Blobaum officiated with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation was from 6 - 9 September 3 at Lamb Funeral Home and at the church after 9:30 a.m. Saturday. He died at 12:40 p.m of injuries sustained in an auto-truck collision 9-1-1982, 2-1/2 miles north of Gibson City at a rural intersection. Joshua was born 12-11-1978 in Champaign, a son of David and Janice Young Christensen. They survive. Also surviving are two brothers, Eric and Jon, and a sister, Christina, all at home; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Young, Saybrook; and his paternal step-grandmother, Pauline Christensen, Roanoke. Joshua attended St. John's Lutheran Church to which memorials may be made. Pallbearers were Steve Rhodes, Mark Rhodes, Jonathan Knapp and Chris Dewey.

CLAUSEN, John Detlaf

John Detlaf Clausen, 57, was killed about 10 a.m. Tuesday 6-1-1943, when he was struck by lightning on his farm near Anchor. He was in the field disking and had left his tractor and started walking to the house when the lightning struck. Coroner Harry L. Howell was called and an inquest is pending. The body was removed to the Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City and will be returned to the Clausen home for funeral services at 9 a.m. Friday, followed by services at 9:30 a.m. at the St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor, at which the Rev. Hartwig Harms will officiate. Mr. Clausen was born 11-21-1885 near Gibson City, son of John Henry and Mary Brading Clausen. He had been farming the land where he was killed for several years. Surviving are his mother, two brothers, Henry of Gibson City; and Corp. Alexander of Camp Hann. Cal.; five sisters: Mrs. Anna (Samuel) Gilmore of Roselle, Il.; Mrs. Emma (William) Hansen and Mrs. Ida (Herman) Hansen of Gibson City; Mrs. Augusta (John) Molck of Anchor and Mrs. Louella (William) Martins of Melvin, Il.

CLAUSEN, John Henry

John Henry Clausen died at his home near Anchor on Sunday morning 6-2-1929 at the age of 74 years 3 months and 18 days. He was born 2-13-1855 at Osterbosel N. Ditmarschen, Holsten Germany. He was baptized in infancy and confirmed in the Lutheran faith when a youth. In 1880 he came to America and settled near Anchor, Il. October 3, 1884, he was united in marriage with Miss Maria Brading at St. John's Lutheran Church. They made their home on a farm four miles southwest of Sibley where they resided for 19 years. They then moved to a larger farm located two miles west of Garber, Il, where they resided until they moved to their own farm three fourths of a mile north of the Anchor Lutheran Church. He had many friends and was a good neighbor and a kind husband and father. He was a true member of his church and attended services very often. Sunday morning he arose and ate breakfast with members of his family and soon after that he sank back in his chair and passed away peacefully. He is survived by his widow and the following children; John Clausen, Mrs. Anna Gilmore, William Clausen, Mrs. Bill Hansen, Mrs. John Molck, Henry Clausen, Mrs. Bill Martins, Alexander Clausen and Ida Clausen and a number of grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
