Robert E. Felin 1931-2000
ST. JOHN - Robert E. Felin, 69, died Aug. 23 at Stafford District Hospital.
He was born March 27, 1931, at Springfield, Mo., the son of James and Marie
Madden Felin. He married Sally A. Deljanovan Sept. 23, 1981, at Troy, Mo. A
resident of St. John since 1966, coming from Anthony, he was a heavy
equipment contractor and was employed by St. John Welding Company and the
railroad as a catskinner.
Felin was a member of Elks Lodge of Pratt.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three daughters, Debbie Hearn and
husband Joe of St. John, Cathey Johnson and husband Gary of Belpre, and
Sandy Spencer and husband Richard of Hutchinson; two stepsons, Paul
McCloskey and wife Tammy of Chanute and Mike McCloskey of Stafford; one
stepdaughter, Ruth McCall and husband Tom of Neodesha; his daughter-in-law,
Cindy Parr and husband Danny of St. John; four brothers, Bernie Fellin and
wife Maude of Spokane, Wash., Joe Felin and wife Mary of Springfield; Pete
Felin and wife Janet of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Donald Felin and wife Vita
of Birmingham, Ala.; three sisters, Margaret Abbott and husband Norman of
St. Peters, Mo., Sue Boaz and husband Denny of Springfield and Rose Holt of
Evanston, Ill.; 25 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several
nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by one son, Bobby L. Felin;
and one infant daughter.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Minnis Chapel in St. John with the
Rev. Rene Guesnier officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park cemetery in
St. John. Friends may call until 8 tonight at the chapel. Memorials are
suggested to St. John's Schools Secret Santa Fund or Playground Equipment
Fund, both in care of the funeral home.

Wilbur O. Bryant 1916-2000
ELLINWOOD - Wilbur O. Bryant, 84, died Aug. 22 at Fort Dodge. He was born
April 13, 1916, at Raymond, the son of Francis Perry and Ida McCullough
Bryant. A longtime resident of Barton County, moving to Fort Dodge in 1995,
he was employed in the oilfield and construction business.
Bryant was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Aleutian Islands and
the Pacific theater during World War II.
Survivors include five sons, Steven Bryant of Concordia, Dennis Bryant of
Ellinwood, John Bryant and Martin Bryant, both of Great Bend, and Scott
Bryant of El Dorado; one daughter, Patty Jo Tibbetts of Quinlan, Texas; one
brother, Walter P. Bryant of Ridgefield, Wash.; one sister, Opal Bethal of
Great Bend; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded
in death by one sister, Ida Pauline Bryant.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Kimple Funeral Chapel in
Ellinwood with the Rev. Ray Willis officiating. Burial will be at
Lakin-Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 5-8
p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Canteen Fund at
American Legion, in care of the funeral home.

Gene H. Wiles 1942-2000
ST. JOHN - Gene H. Wiles, 58, died Aug. 22 at Stafford District Hospital.
He was born Feb. 6, 1942, at Beloit, the son of Hugh Thomas and Minnie L.
Wiles. He was a graduate of Beloit High School. He married Janice E. Kohn
Feb. 7, 1965, at Beloit. They divorced. He then married Leora Z. Veatch
Sept. 17, 1990, at St. John. A resident of St. John for 13 years, coming
from Beloit, he was employed at the sale barn in Beloit and was feedlot
manager for Dudrey Cattle Company in St. John.
Wiles was a past member of Mitchell County Riders Association and was
involved in Future Farmers of America in high school.
Survivors include his wife of the home; and two sons, Duane Wiles of Elk
Grove, Calif., and Darwin Wiles of Beloit. He was preceded in death by one
son, Jeremy Wiles; and one brother, Darrel Wiles.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Minnis Chapel Inc., in St. John with
the Rev. Kasey Crosby officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park Cemetery
in St. John. Friends may call until 8 tonight at the chapel. Memorials are
suggested to Southwind Hospice of Pratt, in care of the funeral home.

Jay Reynolds 1918-2000
COUNCIL GROVE - Jay Reynolds, 81, died Aug. 22 following a brief illness.
He was born Oct. 2, 1918, at Afton, Okla., the son of Claude and Ruby
Hudspeth Reynolds. He was a 1942 graduate of Kansas State University School
of Veterinary Medicine. He married Beatrice Funck in 1978, at Kansas City,
Mo. She died in 1995. A resident of Council Grove, coming from Great Bend,
he practiced veterinary medicine in Great Bend for 17 years and was
executive vice president of Country Club Bank in Kansas City, Mo., until
his retirement in 1981.
Reynolds was a member of First Congregational Church in Council Grove, a
KSU alumnus, former president of the KSU Alumni Association and former
trustee of the KSU Endowment Association. He received the veterinary
school's distinguished service award in 1957 and served as the modulator of
the Kansas-Oklahoma conference of the United Church of Christ in 1963.
Survivors include one son, Don Reynolds of Kansas City; two daughters,
Marty White of Council Grove and Mary Beth Blake of Lake Quivira; and five
grandchildren.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church. The body was
cremated. Memorials are suggested to Care and Share of Council Grove, P.O.
Box 1, Council Grove, KS 66846. Kendall Funeral Chapel of Council Grove is
in charge of arrangements.

Ronald L. Dunn 1949-2000
DALLAS, Texas - Ronald L. Dunn, 51, died Aug. 15 while performing his
duties for the U.S. Army as a staff sargeant. He was born May 20, 1949, at
Dallas. A resident of Dallas, he served in the Army for 29 years, including
a tour in Vietnam, where he survived the 17-day siege at Khe Sahn.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Dunn; three sons, Perry L. Dunn, Kevin
M. Dunn and David Dunn; three daughters, Jennifer Simmons, Michelle Caton
and Tammy Koch; his mother, Jean Dunn; seven grandchildren; and his first
wife, Pam Dunn.
Funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Restland Wildwood Chapel in
Dallas. Burial will be at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, with full
military honors. Friends may call from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

E. Lewis Dale Jr. 1907-2000
E. Lewis Dale Jr., 92, died Aug. 21 at his home in Great Bend. He was born
Nov. 21, 1907, in Stafford County, the son of Elmer L. Sr. and Ella Frances
Rusco Dale. He attended the University of Kansas, studying mechanical
engineering, and participated in cross-country and track and ROTC. He
married Mary Louise Keenan Nov. 12, 1938, at Seward. A resident of Great
Bend since 1988, coming from rural St. John, he was a farmer, stockman,
auction ringman and chief clerk in Agriculture Adjustment Act offices in
Rice, Elk, Kingman and Pratt counties.
Dale was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, St. John Knights of
Columbus Council and was a 4-H leader and ringman for 4-H auctions.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Dr. James E. "Jim" Dale
of Golden, Colo., and Patrick L. "Pat" Dale of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one
daughter, Mary Frances Wichman of Kaiserlautern, Germany; three sisters,
Adabelle Koelling and Sadie Ruth Barber, both of Great Bend, and Mary Glenn
of Camino, Calif.; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Vigil wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday followed by a Knights of
Columbus rosary, all at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Warren
Stecklein officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may
call until 9 tonight, and from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday, all at the
funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick School Endowment Fund
or E. Lewis Dale Jr. College Scholarship Fund, both in care of the funeral
home.

Jerome 'Jim' Herrman 1929-2000
LA CROSSE - Jerome "Jim" Herrman, 70, died Aug. 21 at Via Christi Regional
Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He was born Sept. 12, 1929,
in rural Rush County, the son of John L. and Katherine Weber Herrman. A
Rush County resident most of his life, he was the owner of a vending
business delivering L.K. Dairy Products, and owned and operated Jim's
Champion Service Station and the North Car Wash, both in La Crosse.
Herrman was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Liebenthal.
Survivors include one brother, Felix Herrman of Liebenthal; five sisters,
Louise Noller of Dodge City, Hilda Mazouch of Victoria, Isabelle Befort of
Great Bend, and JoAnn Herrman and Francis Basgall, both of La Crosse. He
was preceded in death by one brother, Harry J. Herrman; and one sister,
Lorene Kuhn.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. today at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse with the
Rev. Benjamin Martin officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery in
Liebenthal. Memorials are suggested to The Kansas Dialysis Association, in
care of the funeral home.

Wilbur O. Bryant 1916-2000
ELLINWOOD - Wilbur O. Bryant, 84, died Aug. 22 at Ft. Dodge. Survivors and
funeral arrangements will be announced by Kimple Inc. Funeral Home in
Ellinwood.

Bertha Deutsch 1914-2000
HOISINGTON - Bertha Deutsch, 85, died Aug. 20 at Central Kansas Medical
Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born Nov. 25, 1914, at
Hoisington, the daughter of David and Anna Schultz. She married Armin
Deutsch Nov. 20, 1959, at Hoisington. A lifetime resident of Hoisington,
she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Deutsch was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and Dorcas Society,
both of Hoisington, and China Painters of Great Bend.
Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Terrance Miller of
Fresno, Calif.; one daughter, Joandel Hanson of San Diego, Calif.; three
stepdaughters, Carolyn Barnaby of Clark Lake, Mich., Darlene Steinert of
Peyton, Colo., and Mary Ann Bahr of Great Bend; six grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; eight
stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by one son, John David Mausolf.
Prayer service will be at 7 tonight at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in
Hoisington. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the
Rev. Garry Dassow officiating. Burial will be at Hoisington Cemetery.
Friends may call until 9 tonight at the funeral home and from 9:30 a.m.
until service time Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to
American Diabetes Association or the church, both in care of the funeral
home.
