Jerome 'Jim' Herrman 1929-2000
LA CROSSE - Jerome "Jim" Herrman, 70, died Aug. 21 at Via Christi Regional
Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He was born Sept. 12, 1929,
in rural Rush County, the son of John H. and Cathrine Weber Herrman. A Rush
County resident most of his life, he was the owner of a vending business
delivering L.K. Dairy Products, and owned and operated Jim's Champion
Service Station and the North Car Wash, both in La Crosse.
Herrman was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Liebenthal.
Survivors include one brother, Felix Herrman of Liebenthal; five sisters,
Louise Noller of Dodge City, Hilda Mazouch of Victoria, Esabelle Beford of
Great Bend, and JoAnn Herrman and Francis Basgall, both of La Crosse. He
was preceded in death by one brother, Harry J. Herrman; and one sister,
Lorene Kuhn.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse
with the Rev. Benjamin Martin officiating. Burial will be at the church
cemetery in Liebenthal. Friends may call until 4 today and from 9 a.m.
until service time Wednesday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are
suggested to The Kansas Dialysis Association, in care of the funeral home.

Charlene A. Dreiling 1934-2000
MANHATTAN - Charlene "Char" A. Dreiling, 66, died Aug. 20 at Mercy Health
Center of Manhattan. She was born Aug. 11, 1934, southwest of Walker, the
daughter of Theodore W. and Alexia Walters Munk. She was a 1952 graduate of
Victoria High School. She attended St. Anthony School of Nursing and Fort
Hays State College. She earned a bachelor's degree in education in 1970, a
master's degee in school psychology in 1973 and an education specialist
degree in central office administration in 1988. She married James E.
Dreiling Sept. 14, 1953, in Victoria. A resident of Manhattan, she was an
elementary teacher in Munjor, a special education administrator in Marion
and a school psychologist in Russell and Manhattan until her retirement in
1996.
Mrs. Dreiling was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Manhattan
and Daughters of Isabella in Victoria. She was also a member of the
National Education Association, Kansas National Education Association,
Kansas Association of School Psychologists, National Association of School
Psychologists, International Association of School Psychologists and the
Kansas Association of Special Education Administrators. She served on the
executive board of the Kansas Association of School Psychologists for eight
years.
Survivors include one son, Joe Dreiling of Victoria; two daughters, Donna
Miller of Emporia and Linda Rogers of Wichita; her mother of Hays; one
brother, Lee Munk of Salina; one sister, Terese Jones of Salt Lake City,
Utah; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and five
stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Anne
Dreiling.
A Sisters of St. Agnes and Associates prayer service will be at 4:30 today,
vigil service at 7:15 tonight and a Victoria Daughter of Isabella rosary at
8 tonight, all at Cline's Mortuary of Hays. Funeral will be at 10 a.m.
Wednesday at St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Victoria with the Revs. Mel
Long and Michael Scully officiating. Burial will be at St. Ann's Cemetery
in Walker. Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 8:30-9:30 a.m.
Wednesday, all at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to Sisters of St.
Agnes, St. Ann's cemetery Fund or Masses, all in care of the funeral home.

E. Lewis Dale Jr. 1907-2000
E. Lewis Dale Jr., 92, died Aug. 21 at his home in Great Bend. Survivors
and funeral arrangements will be announced by Bryant-Christians Funeral
Home in Great Bend.

Bertha Deutsch 1914-2000
HOISINGTON - Bertha Deutsch, 85, died Aug. 20 at Central Kansas Medical
Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. Survivors and funeral arrangements
will be announced by Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington.

Christopher Ira Colter 1974-2000
COLDWATER - Christopher Ira Colter, 25, died Aug. 19, the result of an
automobile accident south of Coldwater. He was born Sept. 23, 1974, at
Greensburg, the son of Kenneth and Verda Pruett Colter. He attended
Coldwater Grade School and was a 1993 graduate of Coldwater High School. A
lifetime resident of Comanche County, he was employed by Ashland Feed and
Seed.
Colter attended Assembly of God Church in Coldwater.
Survivors include his parents of Coldwater; one brother, Brady Colter of
Coldwater; two sisters, Tracy Brittain of Hudson and Tanya Colter of
Coldwater; his grandfather, Albert Pruett of Mountain View, Mo.; and his
grandmother, Velma Colter of Liberal.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Coldwater
with the Rev. Kent Little officiating. Friends may call until 8 tonight at
Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home in Coldwater. Memorials are suggested to
Comanche County EMT, in care of the funeral home.

Dorothy Elizabeth Chism 1922-2000
Dorothy Elizabeth Chism, 78, died Aug. 20 at Integrated Health Services of
Woodhaven in Ellinwood. She was born Feb. 13, 1922, at Claflin, the
daughter of James Martin and Bertha Piel Allen. She married Charles E.
Chism March 29, 1946, at Beloit. He died March 17, 1990. A lifetime
resident of Barton County, she was employed by Barton County Landfill for
19 years and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Chism was a member of First Christian Church in Great Bend. She was a
U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II as a gunnery instructor,
specialist first class.
Survivors include two daughters, Shari Chism of Great Bend and Sandra Chism
of New Orleans, La.; two brothers, Martin Allen of Long Beach, Wash., and
Kenneth Allen of Great Bend; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by one daughter, Karen Frisbie.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. William
F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend cemetery with military
honors. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday at
Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to
the church or Alzheimer's Association, both in care of the funeral home.

May Schneider 1904-2000
NESS CITY - May Schneider, 96, died Aug. 19 at Ness County Long Term Care
in Ness City. She was born July 18, 1904, at Munjor, the daughter of Adam
and Mary Ann Shield Schneider. A resident of Ness County since 1912, she
was a homemaker.
Miss Schneider was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Christian Mothers and
the Altar Society, all of Ness City.
Survivors include two nephews, Alex Dechant of Bazine and Leslie Dechant of
Park; and three nieces, Loretta Giltner of Lincoln, Neb., Isadora Tabor of
Wichita and Lucille Priesser of Haven. She was preceded in death by one
brother, Adam Schneider; and one sister, Susie Dechant.
Parish vigil will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Funeral Mass will
be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Gregory LeBlanc
officiating. Burial will be at St. John the Baptist cemetery in Bazine.
Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday, all
at Fitzgerald Funeral Home in Ness City, from 5:30 until vigil service
Tuesday at the church and from noon until service time Wednesday at the
church. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Vera D. Moore 1911-2000
CHASE - Vera D. Moore, 89, died Aug. 17 at Good Samaritan Center in Lyons.
She was born March 8, 1911, at Oronogo, Mo., the daughter of Rosell Earnest
and Esther Lulu Robb Sargent. She married George Moore in 1930. He died. A
resident of Chase for 48 years, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Moore was a member of Christian Church in Chase.
Survivors include one son, Terry Moore of Wichita; four daughters, Beatrice
Gilmore and Opal Siebrandt, both of Chase, Nadine Dreiling of Great Bend
and Joy Turek of South Haven; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and
one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two sons, Alvis
Moore and Floyd Moore; 12 brothers and sisters; two grandchildren; and one
great-grandson.
Funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons with
the Rev. Johnnie Hardie officiating. Burial will be at Chase Springdale
Cemetery. Friends may call until 5 tonight and from 1 p.m. until service
time Saturday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Lyons
Good Samaritan Center or Rice County Council on Aging, both in care of the
funeral home.

Roberta Bard 1930-2000
PUEBLO WEST, Colo. - Roberta L. Bard, 70, died July 29 at Pueblo. She was
born July 22, 1930, at Beaver, the daughter of August and Lila G.
Schremmer. She married Wayne M. Bard.
Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Melvin G. Patrick of
Albany, Ore.; her mother; two brothers, Dennis Bales of Umatilla, Ore., and
Darrell Bales of Baker City, Ore.; two sisters, Sally Farmer and Patricia
Moyes, both of Baker City; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by her father and step father, Robert Bales.
Memorial services were held Aug. 4 at St. Paul the Apostle Church in
Pueblo. Inurnment will be at a later date at Mount Hope cemetery in Baker
City. Memorials are suggested to Sangre De Cristo Hospice, in care of Coles
Strommer Funeral Home, 1950 Place Street, Baker City, Ore. 97814.

Bennie Chambers 1942-2000
GARDEN CITY - Bennie Chambers, 57, died August 10 at Veteran Hospital in
Wichita. He was born Aug. 27, 1942, at Goodland, the son of Jay and Edith
Smith Chambers. He attended school in Goodland. He married Romona Belisle
Oct. 23, 1981, in Garden City. A resident of Garden City, he was the owner
and operator of a trucking company.
Chambers was a member of American Legion and Veternas of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Burton Ivy of Garden City;
two daughters, Marilyn Wilson of Wichita and Linda Bryant of Garden City;
one brother, Jerry Chambers of New York; one sister, Barbara Gumbir of
Great Bend; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one
brother, Glen Chambers.
Funeral services were Aug. 15 at Selden cemetery witht the Rev. Robert
Allen officiating. Memorials are suggested to Bennie Chambers Memorial
Fund, in care of Pauls Funeral Home in Selden.
