Aurelia Beals 1910-2000
Aurelia Beals, 89, died Aug. 16 at Integrated Health Services in Great
Bend. She was born Nov. 17, 1910, at Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of
Joseph and Letty Kennedy. She married Ray Hadley Beals March 10, 1938, at
Lindsborg. He died Jan. 23, 1983. A resident of Great Bend for 62 years,
coming from Kansas City, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Beals was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include one son, Ralph B. Beals of Overland Park. She was
preceded in death by three brothers, Joe Kennedy, Dan Kennedy and Herman
Kennedy; and three sisters, Helen Kennedy, Letty Van Horn and Frances
Hubbard.
Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Great Bend cemetery with
the Rev. Tom Robson officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until noon
Friday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. Memorials are
suggested to IHS of Great Bend, in care of the funeral home.

Gary F. Scott 1939-2000
GARDEN CITY - Gary F. Scott, 61, died Aug. 16 at St. Catherine Hospital in
Garden City. He was born March 28, 1939, at Fay, Okla., the son of James
Delbert and Ferne Baker Scott. A resident of Garden City since 1978, coming
from Tribune and Pratt, he was an assembly line worker for SDSI in Garden
City.
Scott was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Garden City.
Survivors include one sister, Patsy Radenberg of Great Bend.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City
with the Rev. Kent Anderson officiating. Graveside service will be at 3
p.m. Saturday at Greenlawn cemetery in Pratt. Friends may call from 9 a.m.
until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the
church or donor's choice, both in care of the funeral home.

Delbert 'Del' Lee Basgall 1935-2000
EL CAJON, Calif. - Delbert "Del" Lee Basgall, 65, died Aug. 13 from
injuries following a car accident near El Cajon. He was born July 29, 1935,
at Loretto, the son of Joe G. and Hilda Von Feldt Basgall. He was a
graduate of Victoria High School and attended Fort Hays State College. He
married Mary Ellen Tetlow May 18, 1971, at Fort Wayne, Ind. A resident of
El Cajon since 1990, coming from Fort Collins, Colo., he was a musician and
retired music store manager.
Basgall was a member of the Catholic church. He was a U.S. Army veteran,
having served with the 5th Army Band in Europe.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Scott Basgall and Aaron
Basgall, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter, Heidi Basgall of Nashville,
Tenn.; two brothers, Eddie Basgall of Hays and Marvin Basgall of Great
Bend; and two sisters, Vera Bellendir and Boots Maltby, both of Great Bend.
Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday followed by a memorial Mass at 7 p.m. at
St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend, with the Revs. William A.
Vogel and Warren Stecklein officiating.

T.D. 'Ted' Barron 1914-2000
RUSH CENTER - T.D. "Ted" Barron, 85, died Aug. 15 at Rush County Memorial
Hospital in La Crosse. He was born Nov. 27, 1914, at Springer, Okla., the
son of Grover and Nannie Reid Barron. He married Mary Pauline Horacek Aug.
4, 1944, at Clay Center. A resident of Rush County since 1946, he was a
farmer and stockman.
Barron was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of La Crosse; one daughter, Rose Mary Dakovic of
Wichita; one brother, Billy Barron of Muse, Okla.; five sisters, Anna Bell
Stotts of Medford, Ore.; Maydean Crossland of Muskogee, Okla., Frankie
Bilbrey of Grand Prairie, Texas; Cleva Dehart of Big Cedar, Okla., and
Thelma Lowther of Muse; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by
three brothers, Gilbert Barron, Leon Barron and L.D. Barron; and one
sister, Elma Barron.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse
with the Rev. Marilyn Christmore officiating. Burial will be at La Crosse
City Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and prior to
service Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the
Alzheimer's Association, in care of the funeral home.

Gary Lee Herdt 1942-2000
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Gary Lee Herdt, 58, died Aug. 4, at his residence in
Salt Lake City. He was born July 30, 1942, in Great Bend, the son of Alvin
and Lydia Ehrlich Herdt.
Survivors include two sons, Alvin Herdt of Nashville, Tenn., and William
Herdt of Salt Lake City; two daughters, Gari Herdt and Michelle Herdt, both
of Salt Lake City; and two grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place.
Memorials are suggested to the Gary Lee Herdt memorial fund, in care of
Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington.

Donald Dean Denney Sr. 1932-2000
Donald Dean Denney Sr., 68, died Aug. 14 at Hutchinson Hospital. He was
born Feb. 4, 1932, at Haven, the son of Vernon E. and Thelma L. Keller
Denney. He married LaDonna M. Thomas May 23, 1952, in Great Bend. A 50-year
resident of Great Bend, coming from Sedgwick, he was a salesman for
Steinert's Furniture for 21 years and a travel agent for Cheyenne Travel
for 17 years.
Denney was a member of the First Christian Church of Great Bend. He was a
first sergeant in the Army Reserves, retiring after 31 years.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Donald Dean Denney Jr. of
Casa Grande, Ariz.; one sister, Pauline Winner, Mt. Sterling, Ill.; and two
grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev.
William F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Hoisington cemetery with
military honors. Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9-11:30 a.m.
Thursday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home and from 12:30 p.m. to service
time Thursday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church or
American Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home.

William Roy Marley 1917-2000
LARNED - William Roy Marley, 82, died Aug. 13 at Fort Dodge Soldiers Home
in Dodge City. He was born Sept. 26, 1917, in Larned, the son of William
Rufus and Mable Buck Marley. A resident of Larned for 41 years, he worked
for Standard Oil bulk station for 13 years and farmed with Charles Lynam
for 17 years.
Marley attended Larned United Methodist Church and was a member of Knights
of Pythias Lodge, Oddfellows Lodge, Modern Woodmen of America Lodge and
Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Larned. He was a U.S. Army veteran of
World War II.
Survivors include one brother, Glenn H. Marley of Arizona; and two sisters,
Anna May Lynam of Burdett and Shirley L. McHenry of El Dorado. He was
preceded in death by one brother, Earl Marley.
Graveside service was today at Larned cemetery with the Rev. Charles Grant
officiating. Memorials are suggested to Burdett Emergency Medical Service,
in care of Beckwith Mortuary of Larned.

Marjorie Curry Proffitt 1917-2000
SHAWNEE - Marjorie Curry Proffitt, 82, died Aug. 12 at Shawnee Mission
Medical Center in Merriam. She was born Sept. 25, 1917, in Kansas City,
Mo., the daughter of Clyde L. and Augusta L. Monohon Curry. She married
Lawrence E. Proffitt Sept. 14, 1938, in Manhattan. He died in 1987. She was
a resident of Shawnee, coming from Chase.
Mrs. Proffitt was a member of Chase Presbyterian Church, Kappa Kappa Gamma,
Chase Eastern Star and Chase Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include one son, Donald Robert Proffitt; one daughter, Janet
Cahill; one brother, Donald Curry; one sister, Betty A. Ballentine; eight
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
an infant daughter, Jeanine Proffitt; one son, James Lawrence; and one
grandson, Eric Proffitt.
Funeral will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hilltop cemetery in
Raymond. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Merrill 'Tim' Hoagland 1916-2000
BURDETT - Merrill "Tim" Hoagland, 84, died Aug. 13 at Central Kansas
Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus Long Term Care, in Larned. He was born
Jan. 23, 1916, in rural Hodgeman County, the son of Elias and Beaulah
Dunford Hoagland. He married Sylvia Powell Sept. 12, 1938, at Larned. A
longtime resident of Burdett coming from Miami, Fla., and Wichita, where he
was a foreman at Boeing from 1940-1945, he was a Standard Oil agent and
dealer for 35 years, retiring in 1976.
Hoagland was a member of the Burdett United Methodist Church, an organizer
and charter member of Burdett Lions Club with 25 years perfect attendance,
charter member of Burdett Seniors, served on the Burdett City Council for
28 years, Burdett Lumber Bowling team for 25 years, Masonic Lodge 282 of
Jetmore, Distinguished Deputy Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge of Kansas
and a longtime member of the Kansas York Rite, Great Bend.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Farrell Hoagland of
Goddard; one daughter, Gloria Dreiling of Hutchinson; one sister, Louise
Rucker of Mesa, Ariz.; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one
great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by one sister, Maxine
Waterhouse.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in
Hanston with the Rev. Mitch Reece officiating. Burial will be at Brown's
Grove cemetery in Burdett. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m.
to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned. Memorials are
suggested to the Burdett United Methodist Church or Golden Belt Hospice in
care of the funeral home.
