Otto Herman Nolte 1908-2000
Otto Herman Nolte, 91, died Aug. 9 at Integrated Health Services in Great
Bend. He was born Nov. 14, 1908, at Hudson, the son of August and Mary
Harms Nolte. He married Leoda E. Barrow Jan. 23, 1938, in Great Bend. A
resident of Great Bend since 1942, coming from Stafford, he was a driver
for Mid-Continent LP Service of Great Bend.
Nolte was an elder, deacon, choir member and Sunday school teacher for
First Christian Church, member of Friendship Sunday school class and Silver
and Gold Club, all of Great Bend.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Alvin K. Nolte of Denver,
Colo.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by one son, Loren L. Nolte; and two brothers, Albert Nolte and
William Nolte.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bryant-Christians Chapel in Great
Bend with the Rev. William F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Great
Bend Cemetery. Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to service
time Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church's
building fund, in care of the funeral home.

Rudolf Feldt 1907-2000
CLIFTON, N.J. - Rudolf Feldt, 92, died Aug. 2 in Clifton. He was born Aug.
14, 1907, in Berlin, Germany. Coming to the United States with his family
in 1942, he was an electrical engineer.
Feldt was a veteran of the French Foreign Legion, serving in North Africa
during World War II.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Feldt of Great Bend and Lucien Feldt of
Fairfield, N.J.; one sister, Marianne Hirsch of Clifton; four
grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his
wife in 1991.
Funeral was Aug. 4 at Jewish Memorial Chapel in Clifton. Memorials are
suggested to Great Bend Community Theatre or Brit Spaugh Zoo.

Roy D. Riley 1934-2000
Roy D. Riley, 66, died Aug. 9 at Integrated Health Services in Great Bend.
He was born May 12, 1934, at Sublette, the son of June and Hazel Fern
McBride Riley. He married Norma D. Gabel Nov. 8, 1958, at Dodge City. She
died Jan. 9, 1981. He then married Janice Bailey June 5, 1981, at Great
Bend. She died June 22, 1998. A resident of Great Bend since 1982, coming
from Dodge City, he was a repairman for Fergerson's Furniture and Appliance
Company, Dodge City, for many years and for Tabler Furniture Co., Larned,
until retiring in 1996.
Riley was a former member of Sacred Heart Cathedral, Dodge City. He was a
U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include two sons, Randy Riley of Longmont, Colo., and Bradley
Riley of Harper; one daughter, RoxAnn Mack of Longmont; one stepson, Marvin
Bailey of Salina; one stepdaughter, Diane Magers of Lakewood, Colo.; three
grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
one brother, Richard Riley; two sisters, Lois Walters and Mildred Bauer;
and one stepdaughter, Brenda Thrash.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Burkhart Funeral Chapel in Dodge City
with the Rev. Warren Stecklein officiating. Burial will be at Maple Grove
Cemetery in Dodge City. Friends may call from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the
funeral chapel. The casket will remain closed. Memorials are suggested to
National Kidney Foundation or American Cancer Society, both in care of the
funeral chapel.

Harold C. Grossardt 1919-2000
CLAFLIN - Harold C. Grossardt, 80, died Aug. 10 at Central Kansas Medical
Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Aug. 20, 1919, at
Claflin, the son of John F. and Florence Thelma Staeber Grossardt. He
married Vivian E. Radenberg Oct. 20, 1945, at Claflin. A lifetime resident
of the Claflin area, he was a farmer.
Grossardt was a member of United Methodist Church, retired member of
Claflin Volunteer Fire Department, charter member of Claflin Veterans of
Foreign Wars, all of Claflin, member of board of directors of Holyrood
Co-op and former school board member of District 75. He was a U.S. Army
veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, James P. Grossardt of
Minden, Neb., and Theodore H. Grossardt of Lexington, Ky.; two daughters,
Joan R. Sutton of Topeka and Marie E. Bachman of Susank; one brother,
Bernerd G. Grossardt of Hutchinson; one sister, Marian R. Bush of Isabel;
and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Fred T.
Grossardt, Emery E. Grossardt, Melvin Ray Grossardt, Martin L. Grossardt
and John Chester Grossardt; and one sister, Bernice T. Grossardt.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Janet
Myers officiating. Burial will be at Claflin cemetery with military
graveside rites by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to
9 p.m. Saturday and from 1-9 p.m. Sunday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in
Hoisington and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Claflin EMS, the church, Claflin Community
Scholarship Fund or donor's choice, all in care of the funeral home.

William James McQuiston 1924-2000
DEMING, N.M. - William James McQuiston, 76, died Aug. 6 at Memorial
Medical Center in Las Cruces, N.M. He was born May 14, 1924, in Morristown,
Mich., the son of Robert and Irene England McQuiston. A resident of Deming
for many years, coming from Great Bend, he was retired from the oil fields.
McQuiston was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth, of the home; one son, Michael James
McQuiston of Pawnee Rock; four daughters, Jerrie Jo Breese, Connie Jean
McQuiston and Jolene Maria McQuiston, all of Great Bend, and Lois Ann
Anderson of Dundee; two brothers, Bob Christy and Hiram McQuiston; four
sister, Mildred Davis, Mabel Parks, Larue Johnson and Barbara Johnson; nine
grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
three brothers, Joe Christy, Chuck Christy and Sam McQuiston; and four
sisters, Bessie Roys, Marie Eberhart, Rachel Anderson and Laverene
McQuiston.
Memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Monday at Mountain View Apartments in
Deming. Cremation has taken place. Deming Cremation Services was in charge
of arrangements.

Gypsy Genelle Vinson 1922-2000
Gypsy Genelle Vinson, 78, died Aug. 7 at her home in Great Bend. She was
born July 31, 1922, at Mount Vernon, Ill., the daughter of Virgil Faye and
Cuma Hunsinger White. She married Charles M. Vinson Dec. 23, 1939, at Mount
Vernon. He died Oct. 25, 1997. A resident of Great Bend since 1954, coming
from Lyons, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Vinson was a member of First Christian Church, Barton County Desk and
Derrick Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and American Legion
Auxiliary.
Survivors include Cuma Mae Zeltner of Pratt, Cheryl Maxine Logan of Dallas,
Texas, and Carla Marie Yahne of Great Bend; and three grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by one sister, Jacqueline White.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bryant-Christians Chapel in Great Bend
with the Rev. William F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend
Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-9 tonight, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday
and from 9 a.m. to service time Friday, all at the funeral home. Memorials
are suggested to Barton County Desk and Derrick Club Scholarship Fund or
Great Bend Humane Society, both in care of the funeral home.

Jerry Lee Freeman 1956-2000
SALINA - Jerry Lee Freeman, 44, died Aug. 6 at Via Christi Regional Medical
Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita following a motor vehicle accident
while hunting west of Minneapolis. He was born Jan. 15, 1956, in Salina,
the son of Edward J. Freeman and Arlene Crist. A resident of Salina since
1998, coming from Great Bend and Stafford, he had worked for Fuller Brush,
Great Bend Manufacturing and Shears Construction Company in Salina.
Freeman was a member of Masonic Lodge of Stafford and Moose Lodge of Salina.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Arlene and Dale DePauw of
Rapid City, S.D.; his father of Wellington; one brother, Eddie Freeman of
Minneapolis; two sisters, Carol Freeman of Clarksville, Tenn., and Janet
Goodwin of Bangs, Texas; and two stepsisters, Benita White and Brenda
DePauw of Rapid City.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Shields Funeral Home in Minneapolis
with the Rev. David Heikes officiating. Private inurnment will be at Hall
Cemetery in Delphos. The body was cremated. Friends may call from 7-8
tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to donor's choice, in
care of the funeral home.

Floyd K. Mills 1914-2000
SEDAN - Floyd K. Mills, 86, died July 26 at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan.
He was born March 30, 1914, in Cedar Vale, the son of Ralph and Bertha
Kennedy Mills. He married Lua Lemert Stark Nov. 24, 1935, in Winfield. He
was a 1932 graduate of Cedar Vale High School. He was a resident of the
Spur Ranch in rural Sedan since 1943, coming from a farm southeast of Cedar
Vale.
Mills was a member of Cedar Vale Methodist Church, Chautauqua County and
National Livestock Associations and Sedan Chamber of Commerce. He served on
the Sedan school board for 20 years and was active in 4-H.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Lee Mills of Sedan; two
daughters, Joyce McCall of Bartlesville, Okla., and Carol Tranbarger of
Macksville; one brother, Ray Mills of Denver, Colo.; one sister, Olive
Ramey of Winfield; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral was July 31 at Sedan First Christian Church with the Revs. Penny
Goldberg and Doris Nix officiating. Burial was at North Cedar cemetery in
rural Cedar Vale. Wheeler Funeral Home in Cedar Vale was in charge of
arrangements.

Paul Seal Hipsher 1908-2000
LONGMONT, Colo. - Paul Seal Hipsher, 92, died Aug. 6 at Peaks Care Center
in Longmont. He was born April 17, 1908, in Coleman, Texas, the son of
George and Cordelia Seal Hipsher. He married Mary E. Britten Feb. 15, 1941,
in Pittsburg. He graduated from high school in Colman and attended the
Brauns Business College in Lubbock, Texas. A resident of Longmont since
1962, coming from Kansas, he managed stores for Woolworth Company in
Pittsburgh, Longmont and Great Bend, started grocery stores in Ellinwood
and Albuquerque, N.M., opened an appliance store in Colby and worked for
Traylor Hardware in Longmont from 1973-1983.
Hipsher was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Longmont.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Tom Hipsher of
Anchorage, Alaska, Mike Hipsher of Estes Park, Colo., and Tim Hipsher of
Longmont; one daughter, Paula Brozek of Great Bend; one sister, Ida Lee
Neill of Santa Ana, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Guy Hipsher, Gay Hipsher, Truitt
Hipsher and R.C. Hipsher; and seven sisters, Laura Heard, Birdie Dodgen,
Mamie Pridemore, Erman McFadin, Ruby Watson, Gertrude "Trudy" Brewer and
Mary Alice Sparkman.
Vigil services will be at 7 tonight at Howe Mortuary Chapel in Longmont
with the Rev. Bill Lee officiating. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10
a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. James Fox officiating. Cremation
will follow the service. Inurnment will be at Foothills Gardens of Memory
at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Peaks Care Center, in care of
the mortuary.
