Christene Elizabeth Bartlett 1918-2000
DODGE CITY - Christene Elizabeth Bartlett, 81, died Aug. 7 at Halsey Hall
in Fort Dodge. She was born Nov. 5, 1918, in Holly, Colo., the daughter of
John Neil and Amber Blanche Chesborough-Hunting Wilkinson. She married
David Bartlett July 15, 1936, in Larned. He died Jan. 26, 1989. She was a
graduate of St. John High School. A resident of Dodge City since 1995,
coming from Ingalls, she was co-owner of Davie's Cafe in Ingalls for 35
years.
Mrs. Bartlett was a member of First United Methodist Church of Dodge City.
Survivors include two sons, Allen Ray Bartlett of Parkville, Mo., and
Elhalcon Bartlett of Great Bend; one daughter, Susan Carter of Dodge City;
one brother, John Donald Wilkinson of Montezuma; five sisters, Mary A. Catt
and Bernice Fogel, both of Rogers, Ark., Hazel Erickson of Stapleton, Neb.,
Glenda Bell Norton of Taylor, Ark., and Phyllis Siefkas of Meridian, Idaho;
10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
one grandson, Ryan Lee Cobb.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Dick
Robbins officiating. Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at
Farmington cemetery in Macksville. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Wednesday at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City. Memorials are suggested to
the church, in care of the funeral home.

Gypsy C. Vinson 1922-2000
Gypsy C. Vinson, 78, died Aug. 7 at her home.
Survivors and funeral arrangements will be announced by Bryant-Christians
Funeral Home in Great Bend.

Dayton Harold Lynch 1905-2000
NESS CITY - Dayton Harold Lynch, 94, died Aug. 5 at the Ness County
Hospital in Ness City. He was born Aug. 28, 1905, at Ness City, the son of
Peter Humphrey and Lulie Mulvaney Lynch. He married Millie Dunstone Aug.
12, 1937, at Ness City. He attended Kansas State University. A lifetime
member of Ness County, he was a farmer and stockman.
Lynch was a member of First Baptist Church of Ness City.
Survivors include his wife of the home; and one son, James R. Lynch of
Austin, Texas. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Lynch and
Nathan Lynch; and one sister, Olive Fouquet.
Funeral service was today at the church with the Rev. Russell King
officiating. Burial is at the Ness City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested
to the Ness County Health Care Foundation or the church, in care of
Fitzgerald Funeral Home in Ness City.

Woodrow 'Woody' Moore 1913-2000
LA CROSSE - Woodrow "Woody" Moore, 87, died Aug. 6 at La Crosse. He was
born March 30, 1913, near Otis, the son of William and Thrasia Brack Moore.
He married Rose Katherine Bott Aug. 2, 1945, at La Crosse. A farmer and
stockman, he lived in the La Crosse area all his life, moving to La Crosse
in 1986.
Moore was a member of United Methodist Church of La Crosse, American
Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Eagles of Great Bend. He was a U.S.
Army veteran of World War II, having served as an engineer building roads
in Iran.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sisters, Wilma Morgenstern of
Hoisington and Twila Corbin of Rossville.
Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the La Crosse Cemetery
with the Rev. Marilyn Christmore officiating. Friends may call until 8
tonight at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse. Memorials are suggested to
the church in care of the funeral home.

Elmer L. Mausolf 1905-2000
ALBERT - Elmer L. Mausolf, 95, died Aug. 5 at Central Kansas Medical
Center, St. Rose Campus, in Great Bend. He was born June 20, 1905, at Rush
County, the son of Louis and Christina Dirks Mausolf. He married Lena
Lebsack Feb. 5, 1930, in Larned. She died Feb. 5, 1979. He married Alberta
Offutt Kraus July 3, 1982, in Chicago, Ill. A lifetime Barton County
resident, he was a farmer.
Mausolf was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Albert and was also a
former mayor of Albert. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, Elks Lodge and
American Legion, all of Great Bend.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Dolores L. Ochs of
Colorado Springs, Colo., and Joan Cooper of Liberal; one stepson, Thayne
Kraus of Palmer Lake, Colo.; three stepdaughters, Lorna Shaw of Florissant,
Colo., Marilyn Ginther of Hays, and Karen Organ of Kansas City, Mo.; five
grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; and 13
step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter;
one brother, Edward Mausolf; and one sister, Augusta Tammen.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the
Revs. Ethan Feistner and Diana Fox officiating. Burial will be at Peace
Lutheran cemetery in Albert. Friends may call from 5-9 tonight and 9 a.m.
to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. Family
will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Leona Freund 1905-2000
HUTCHINSON - Leona Freund, 95, died Aug. 6 at Dillon Living Center in
Hutchinson. She was born Jan. 1, 1905, at Beaumont, Texas, the daughter of
Maurice and Mayme Sharpe Colburn. She married August F. Freund Sept. 17,
1929, at Andale. He died Jan. 9, 1978. A Little River resident for 45 years
moving to Hutchinson in 1980, she was a homemaker and nurse's aide at
Sandstone Heights Nursing Home in Little River.
Mrs. Freund was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Altar Society and
Friendly Neighbors E.H.U., all of Little River.
Survivors include four sons, August Edward Freund of Great Bend; James
Joseph Freund of El Cajon, Calif., Edgar Matthew Freund of McPherson, and
Glenn David Freund of Hutchinson; 15 grandchildren and 29
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lola Marie
Freund, one granddaughter, Kathy Freund; and two sisters, Sister Mary
Colburn and Agnes Colburn.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons. Funeral
services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. James
Hoagland officiating. Burial will be at Bean Memorial cemetery in Little
River. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the nursing home or Rose Memorial Scholarship
Fund, both in care of the funeral home.

Kirk M. Balthazor 1983-2000
RUSSELL - Kirk M. Balthazor, 17, died Aug. 5 at Russell as a result of an
auto accident. He was born June 11, 1983, at Great Bend, the son of James
M. and Cindy M. Spatz Balthazor. A lifetime resident of Russell, he would
have been a Junior at Russell High School this fall. He had worked for
Russell Recreation, Alco, J.D. Most and was to begin working at Sonic.
Balthazor was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and State Champion
K-18 Baseball Team, both of Russell.
Survivors include his parents of the home; one sister, Teryn Balthazor of
the home; paternal grandparents Armond and Helen Balthazor of Concordia;
and maternal grandparents Ben and Aileen Spatz of Beloit. He was preceded
in death by one grandmother, Geneva Spatz.
Vigil service will be at 7 tonight at Pohlman's Memorial Chapel in Russell.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Charles
Steier officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Friends may call
until 9 tonight at Pohlman's Mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the
church CYO and Education Fund, in care of the mortuary.

Doris Jean Petersilie 1933-2000
NESS CITY - Doris Jean Petersilie, 67, died Aug. 4 at her daughter's home
in Fort Worth, Texas. She was born Feb. 16, 1933, at Wakefield, the
daughter of Henry Charles and Minnie Rothfuss Salter. She married Lawrence
Petersilie at Clay Center. He died Oct. 10, 1972. A resident of Ness City
since 1966, she was a teacher.
Mrs. Petersilie was a member of United Methodist Church of Ness City.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Petersilie of Napa, Calif., and
Atlanta, Ga., and Kim Steinberg of Fort Worth; and three sisters, Ruth
Downes of Green Valley, Ariz., Lucille Jelinek of Manhattan, and Shirley
Lagasse of Edmond, Okla.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Doug
Hasty officiating. Burial will be at Ness City Cemetery. Friends may call
from 1-9 today at Fitzgerald Funeral Home in Ness City and until service
time Tuesday at the church. The casket will remain closed. Memorials are
suggested to St. Jude's Children Hospital, in care of the funeral home.

Wilma I. Thielen 1920-2000
WILSON - Wilma I. Thielen, 80, died Aug. 4 at Wilson Nursing Center in
Wilson. She was born Jan. 5, 1920, in Dorrance, the daughter of William and
Emma Teppe Garrett. She married Edward Thielen May 21, 1941, in Wilson. He
died Feb. 15, 1959. A lifetime resident of Dorrance, moving to Wilson
Nursing Center in 1991, she was Dorrance city clerk and a homemaker.
Mrs. Thielen was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Altar
Society, both of Dorrance.
Survivors include two sons, Brian Thielen of Sterling and Phillip Thielen
of Russell; three daughters, Marcene Howey of Salina, Elzana Rowe of
Pacific, Wash., and Jeanine Eschbaugh of Wilson; one brother, Everett
Garrett of Colby; two sisters, Velma Thielen of Dorrance and Wilda Anschutz
of Topeka; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Parish vigil will be at 7 tonight at Foster Mortuary in Wilson. Funeral
Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Jerome Morgan
officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph's cemetery in Dorrance. Friends
may call until 8 tonight at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to Wilson
Nursing Center, in care of the funeral home.

Stanley Allen Karst 1950-2000
TOPEKA - Stanley Allen Karst, 50, died Aug. 4 in Boise, Idaho, of an
apparent heart attack. He was born Jan. 27, 1950, in Great Bend, the son of
Ralph L. and Esther Dietz Karst. He married Joyce M. Lang Nov. 24, 1979, in
Atwood. A resident of Topeka since 1981, he was regional sales manager for
Precision Computer Systems.
Karst was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Topeka, Senior choir
member, and alumni of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity at Kansas State University.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three daughters, Tricia N. Christ,
and Jessica M. Karst and Sheila A. Karst, both of Topeka; his mother of
Hoisington; one brother, Gregory M. Karst of Omaha, Neb.; and one sister,
Melinda Kershaw of Wichita.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Susan
Candea officiating. Graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at
Fairview cemetery in Galatia. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at
Penwell-Gabel Highland Chapel in Topeka. Memorials are suggested to Karst
Children Education Fund or the church, in care of Penwell-Gabel Highland
Chapel, 2843 S.E. Minnesota Ave., Topeka, KS 66605.
