Betty Jean Duft 1925-2000
STERLING - Betty Jean Duft, 74, died Nov. 4 at Hutchinson Hospital. She was
born Dec. 25, 1925, in Sterling, the daughter of Arthur and Lydia Elliott
Proffitt. She married Willard C. Duft Sept. 26, 1946, at Lexington, Neb. A
lifetime resident of Sterling, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Duft was a member of United Methodist church in Alden, American Legion
Auxiliary and Silver Threads, both of Sterling.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Randy Duft of Kansas
City and Jack Duft of Sterling; two daughters, Sandra Wilcox of Great Bend
and Marla Romesburg of Garden City; two brothers, Harold Proffitt and
Gerald Proffitt, both of Alden; 11 grandchildren; and 15
great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. William
Stapleton officiating. Burial will be at Sterling Community Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-7 p.m. Monday at Sillin Funeral Home in Sterling.
Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Vincent H. 'Ging' Schrepel 1949-2000
Vincent H. "Ging" Schrepel, 51, died Nov. 2 at his home in Great Bend. He
was born Sept. 4, 1949, at Great Bend, the son of Alvin Frederick and
Dolores C. Kittel Schrepel. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was
drilling superintendent for Allen Drilling in Great Bend for 20 years and a
former employee of Essex Corporation of Hoisington and Western Power
Company in Great Bend.
Schrepel was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include one brother, Alvin F. Schrepel of Great Bend; his
companion, Romona Newsome of Great Bend; and one stepson, Noble Wayne
Duncan of Wichita.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Bryant-Christians Chapel in Great Bend
with the Rev. Don Paden officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. today. Memorials are suggested to Great Bend
Public Library or donor's choice, both in care of the funeral home.

Jessie Bailey 1918-2000
Jessie Bailey, 81, died Nov. 3 at Great Bend. She was born Nov. 26, 1918,
at Sylvia, the daughter of Homer A. and Allie Vanlandingham Stewart. She
married Raymond M. Bailey June 1, 1948, at Colorado Springs, Colo. He died
March 15, 1993. A resident of Great Bend since 1950, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Bailey was a member of First United Methodist Church and Ladies Elks,
both of Great Bend.
Survivors include one daughter, Candy Bailey Spangenberg of Great Bend. She
was preceded in death by one son, Milton R. Bailey; and 16 brothers and
sisters.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hazen cemetery in rural
Sylvia. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Great Bend Family
Mortuary. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association or
Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice of Great Bend, in care of
Hays-Christians Funeral Home in Lindsborg.

Joyce Maskus Koehn 1939 -2000
HAYS - Joyce Maskus Koehn, 61, died Nov. 1 at Via St. Francis Hospital in
Wichita, from injuries suffered in a car-pedestrian accident in Hays. She
was born Nov. 11, 1939, in Dodge City, the daughter of George Paul and Alta
Evans Morris Maskus. She was a graduate of Dodge City High School and
Emporia State Teachers College. A resident of Hays, she was a teacher at
the Reed Center in Hays and was a foreign exchange student sponsor for
several years.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Hays.
Survivors include one daughter, Diane Niehardt of Denver, Colo.; six
brothers, Paul Maskus of Tulsa, Okla., Jack Maskus of Kansas City, Mo., Bob
Maskus of Dodge City, Bill Maskus of Jetmore, Jim Maskus of Liberal and
Richard Maskus; three sisters, Jean Bushell of Dodge City, Phyllis Weiss of
Offerle and Helen Wetzel of Great Bend; and one granddaughter, Barbara
Niehardt of the home.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with Arthur L. Morin
officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Lutheran
Cemetery in Jetmore. Friends may call from 6-8 tonight at Brock's North
Hill Chapel in Hays. Memorials are suggested to Barbara Niehardt Education
Fund, in care of the funeral chapel.

Norma Jean Maxwell 1926-2000
LYONS - Norma Jean Maxwell, 74, died Nov. 1 at Lyons District Hospital in
Lyons. She was born Sept. 14, 1926, in Lyons, the daughter of William R.
and Bessie Ann Duke Miller. She married Cecil Dean Maxwell Feb. 25, 1946,
in Little River. He died June 20, 1989. A lifetime resident of Lyons, she
was a grocery clerk for Stowits IGA and an employee at Kit Road Ranger of
McPherson.
Mrs. Maxwell was a member of First Christian Church, the American Legion
Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary, all of Lyons. She was a
member of the former Lyons Women's Bowling Association.
Survivors include one daughter, Darlene Hensley of Chino, Calif.; two
brothers, Don W. Miller of San Jose, Calif., and Virgil I. Miller of
Burley, Idaho; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by one brother, Marion Miller.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons with the
Rev. Tom Eastman officiating. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal cemetery in
Lyons. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials
are suggested to the American Heart Association or to the Kansas Lung
Association, in care of the funeral home.

Fern V. Koons 1909-2000
LYONS - Fern V. Koons, 91, died Nov. 1 at Lyons District Hospital in Lyons.
She was born June 8, 1909, in Ellinwood, the daughter of Edward J. and
Amelia Tank Christiansen. She graduated from Ellinwood High School. She
married Marvin Grady Koons Oct. 12, 1930, near Alden. He died Feb. 7, 2000.
A longtime resident of Lyons, she was a farmwife and homemaker.
Mrs. Koons was a member of First Baptist Church in Lyons and Valley
Homemakers.
Survivors include two sons, Wayne Koons and Fred Koons, both of Lyons. two
brothers, Wellman Christiansen of Springfield, Colo., and Edward J.
Christansen Jr. of Walsh, Colo.; one sister, Flossie Pearson of Gresham,
Ore.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in
death by six brothers and sisters, including Bea Unruh and Thelma Sporn;
and one granddaughter.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church in Lyons with the Rev.
Gary Karas officiating. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Friends
may call from 2-7 tonight at the Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons. Memorials
are suggested to Lyons District Hospital Swingbed, in care of the funeral
home.

Paul Rudolph Muller 1933-2000
METAIRIE, La. - Paul Rudolph Muller, 67, died Oct. 26 at East Jefferson
Hospital In Metairie. He was born in 1933 in New Orleans, the son of
Raymond J. and Vinette Reams Muller. He married Bernadine Steiner. A
resident of Metairie for the past 38 years, he was a retired vice president
of Distribution International and SIG-Southwest in Houston.
Muller was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church and Shrine. He was U.S.
Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons, Paul "Randy" Muller,
Steven Muller, Kevin Muller and Kurt Muller; five daughters, Diane Pugh,
Sandra McCall, Sharon Nelson, Nancy Muller and Patricia Muller; his mother;
one brother, Raymond J. Muller, Jr.; two sisters, Claire DeLouise and
Cynthia Sabo; 13 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and one
great-grandchild.
Funeral mass was held at the Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home with burial at
Lake Lawn Park. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Due to incorrect information supplied to the Tribune, the name of Richard
R. "Dick" Lang's daughter was misspelled. It should have read Laura Fickel.

Vincent H. Schrepel 1949-2000
Vincent H. Schrepel, 51, of Great Bend died Nov. 2 at his home. Survivors
and funeral arrangements will be announced by Bryant-Christians Funeral
Home in Great Bend.

Doris Louise Keller 1916-2000
SEWARD - Doris Louise Keller, 84, died Oct. 31 at Forest Hills Nursing Home
in Broken Arrow, Okla. She was born July 8, 1916, in Pawnee Rock, the
daughter of William and Della Nash Rose. She married Orville Bordewick Aug.
18, 1934, in Seward. He died May 20, 1957. She married Charlie L. Keller on
December 30, 1970, in Seward. He died March 27, 1988. A resident of Broken
Arrow for 11 years, coming from Seward, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Keller was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and Altar
Society in Seward.
Survivors include three sons, William Donald Bordewick of Seward, Jerome
Orville Bordewick of Dubuque, Iowa and John LeRoy Bordewick of Roper, N.C.;
one daughter, Barbara Rose McAllister of Broken Arrow; two step-sons, James
L. Keller of Garden City and Marvin Keller of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one
step-daughter, Janice M. Becker of Hutchinson; one sister, Pearl
Fritzemeier of Stafford; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 15
step-grandchildren; and 32 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by a sister, Bertha Estes and a step-son, Norman C. Keller.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home. Funeral
will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Rene Guesnier
officiating. Burial will be at St. Francis Xavier cemetery in Seward.
Friends may call from 1-9 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are
suggested to the church or the Alzheimer's Association.

Richard "Dick" R. Lang 1922-2000
ELLINWOOD - Richard 'Dick' R. Lang, 78, died Nov. 1 at his home in
Ellinwood. He was born March 22, 1922, in Ness City, the son of Adam A. and
Katherine Meis Lang. He married Louise A. Erny Aug. 9, 1947, in Hutchinson.
A resident of Ellinwood, he was a retired production foreman with W. L.
Hartman Oil Comany after 37 years of employment.
Lang was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the American Legion and
the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Ellinwood. He was a U.S. Army veteran
of World War II, serving during the Battle of the Bulge in the European
theater.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Donald V. Lang of
Ellinwood and Robert E. Lang of Piedmont, Okla.; two daughters, Barbara
Chulufas of Harrisonville, Mo. and Laurie Fickel of Garden City; two
brothers, Alden Lang of Hutchinson and Ernie Lang of Oklahoma City, Okla.;
three sisters, Albertina Albracht of Tilden, Neb., Virginia Lindsey of
Wichita and Mildred Ensz of Hutchinson; 16 grandchildren; and 15
great-granchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Michael Lang;
three brothers, Paul Lang, Herman Lang and Arthur Lang; three sisters,
Martina, Florence and Lora Jean.
Altar society rosary will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Kimple Funeral Home in
Ellinwood.. Parish vigil will be 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Funeral will
be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church in Ellinwood with the Rev. David
Flagor officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District cemetery in
Ellinwood. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Friday. Memorials are suggested
to the Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice, in care of the funeral home.
